Of course I enjoyed this book. It's all things I love: history, the British Isles, pictures of ancient art and treasure... And this edition is super updated to include the coronation of King Charles III in 2023! Check it out if you are a nerd like me :)

Just 50 pages in. Quite good would. W interested in historians take on it. Some biased language in it. For example describing Britain as “regressing” from Christianity as people reverted from being forced to follow local kings and their conversion to Christianity in the Anglo Saxon period before the Vikings. Really? How about reasserting their own cultural and spiritual values.
Also for some reason only Vikings are described as “predators” Really? After all of the invasions by multiple groups why single out one group?
Hope the rest is better with a professional historians use of language.

I really enjoyed this illustrated history of Great Britain. I love all books about the UK, but this one is particularly excellent in its text as well as accompanying illustrations. My only complaint is that it is much heavier on recent history than past history. For example, I’d like as much information on Disraeli or Gladstone as it had on Margaret Thatcher. Overall this was a good book and enjoyable read. I did DNF this last year as I didn’t have the capacity at the time but an end of the year/into the new year read just as I’m pining for another trip to the UK made this reading period perfect for this book.
