Unlike her best friend Camilla Riley, compulsive list-maker Terry Diamond prides herself on her organisational abilities. Also unlike Camilla, Terry is tall, blonde, curvaceous and self-confident.However, all this doesn't stop chaos bursting into her life when her daughter not only gives birth on Terry's living-room rug but decides to move home with infant in tow. Then there are the problems Terry is having with her love life, as she realises her boyfriend - a handyman who wears pink overalls - may not even be Mr Right For Now, and falls in love at first sight with a mysterious stranger who dresses like the father in a 1950s sitcom. Will all this mayhem make the play-it-safe Terry do what she needs to do to turn her life around?
Ilsa Evans is an Australian author. She has written across several genres from light fiction (such as the books that make up the 'laundry series') to more gritty social realism. Two of her books, Broken and Sticks and Stones stem from the findings of a PhD on the long-term effects of family violence that Ilsa completed in 2005. Ilsa teaches creative writing and carries out public speaking when she is not writing. She lives in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne with her children, assorted pets and several uninvited possums.
Until recently Terry's life has been fairly routine. But this is shaken up when she unexpectedly falls heads over heels in love twice, firstly with her new granddaughter and then with a mysterious stranger. The characters in this book are described and written well. I was enjoying this book right until the end where I went "Why did the character do that?"
Good book by an Aussie author. I laughed out loud several times. I was a bit disappointed in the ending, but otherwise, I really enjoyed it. I recommend it.
A good read from Ilsa Evans about Terry Diamond, her family and friends. Secrets from the past and just trying to cope with everyday things that get in the way of life.
This was probably my favourite from the Laundry series - it had laugh out loud moments that were really well written. I loved the incorporation of characters from the previous two books and threads from their storylines coming through, plus the development of those who before played minor roles.
It was all going so beautifully until the ending, which I really didn't like. At all. I know this author doesn't necessarily do "happy ever afters" and it's more about the journey of the protagonist, but geez it was a frustratingly unsatisfying finish to what was a terrific book. So Terry shocked herself out of her life-lethargy by potentially losing the love of her life? A couple of paragraphs of what-if's and may-be's didn't compensate for this rather sudden and sad ending.
Is there perhaps a Laundry #4 coming out? There were enough loose ends to make a quilt from this one! :)
This book had me on the edge of my seat wondering what on earth would happen next. From the opening with her daughter giving birth on the lounge room floor this book bursts forth with all kinds of weird and wonderful, not to say, hilarious events. Didn’t want to put it down for a minute. Along with all the chaos in her life, Terry is also tied up with problems in her love life too. All makes for a rollicking good read.
Absolutely loved reading this book. A week of reading about Terry's life was an absolute fulfilling read. The author has done an amazing job at making this book a light heart rated fun read. Read this book in about 2 days as i couldn't put it down. Recommend to anyone wanting an easy read.
