Collects Ultimate Spider-Man (2000) #47-53. Sam Bullit is running for Mayor of New York City on an anti-Spider-Man campaign, and Daily Bugle Editor-in-Chief J. Jonah Jameson is backing him 100%. But who is pulling Bullit's strings? None other than the Kingpin of Crime!
A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.
Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.
Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.
Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.
Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.
Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.
He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.
Spider-man gets to deal with Kingpin once again...and also a lot of issues with MJ and her piece of shit father.
You get to see Peter losing his cool here as Kingpin is getting off Scott free for KILLING SOMEONE ON CAMERA. This happens more often than anyone would like to admit in the good old USA, and Peter ask the questions no one wants to answer. Why? WHY IS HE FREE? He KILLED someone ON camera!!! On top of that now he has to deal with Black Cat and Electra. You thought he had girl problems before, you just wait!
Overall, super fun and important for Peter to see him grow. I love character development and they do it so well here. Peter and MJ relationship also grows as MJ has to deal with her asshole of a father. Also Aunt May has an AMAZING scene here. Really Bendis does write the best family dynamic for Peter hands down.
My world of Spiderman and Marvel continue to expand with each storyline. I found the addition of Electra and Black Cat exciting and while it was not super in depth I feel it will lead to future storylines.
Additionally, the whole plot of Kingpin being able to be free and Spiderman dealing with reasons why is pretty spot on in our day and age of so many who have money and power seem to be above the law.
It was a fun story arc and looking forward to more of Black Cat and Electra in future issues.
More pulling at the seams of Peter and Mary Jane’s relationship. Could have done without the ridiculously gratuitous illustration of Black Cat. Was there no editor in the room that said, “Come on, guys. Really?”
