A dutiful girlfriend, Marissa agrees to attend Red Night with her boyfriend, James, who wants to explore his sexuality.
Once there, president of Theta Rho Zeta who hosts the debauchery, Xavier sets his sights on Marissa.
Xavier’s unique style won’t be appreciated by all readers, but he’s hands down, my favorite Kitty King MMC. He’s domineering, unrepentant, and gives zero fçuks about which lines he crosses. But he’s also the man who built Marissa’s dream cabin based on her Pinterest boards. Did I mention he can back up his BDE? I’m still recovering from chapter 11…

Ya'll. What did I do to deserve this? Is the universe punishing me for something that I don't know about? Because 3 swings and misses in a row are life ruining.
I want to see what people did in liking this book. There are many reviews that say the opposite of what I do.. and my only question is... how?
Marissa. Girl needs help. Her emotions give me so much whiplash that I think I broke my neck. Like... ew Xavier, yes Xavier, stop being a creep Xavier, I love you Xavier, fuck off I hate you Xavier, Yes I'll marry you Xavier, No fucking take this ring back Xavier. GIRL PICK ONE.
Xavier. Who... What.... This boy makes no sense. He's like this golden rich boy that can get away with anything because privilidge. Sure got it. But then he's like supposed to be stalker-esque.. but really isn't because he's gathering info for a revenge. THEN.. THEN... Like WHO ARE YOU SIR??? Because you are like 3 different characters. Please be ONE.
Anyways... the third act bullshit dropped this from a 2 to a 1 star. The rest of the story was repetitive and forgettable. At least I'm done.
You want more Xavier Cardell? Want to know what makes him tick and what he was up to all those times he disappeared from Marissa?
Well… you’re about to find out.
I added over 30 thousand words. Eight chapters. One hundred and fifty pages of MORE unhinged, stalker-y, possessive Xavier.
YES! Red Night: Special Edition has the SAME plot, the SAME characters, but is more intense, involved, in depth, and insane. The darkness IS elevated in this edition. But so are the levels of emotions.
You’ll get dual Point of Views: Marissa and Xavier. AND you’ll get expanded scenes from the first book.
If you never read the original? You’ll want to read THIS ONE. If you loved the original? You’ll definitely want to read this one!
Well curiosity got this cat 😹🙋🏻♀️ and I decided to do a buddy read with my Bestie… Ughhh It was a waste of time so I DNF half way through! What bothered me and I could do without were first few chapters of this book! Also, here’s a list of what annoyed me:
• FMC is a doormat, her boyfriend James is a douche, constantly cheating behind her back on the pretense of being BI and likes to experiment! • She accepts all of James’s requests and participates, not happily or agreeably but forcing herself just to not loose him! • That detailed orgy where Xavier (future love interest and MMC) f**s James in 🍑and immediately removing condom sinks into FMC - ewww 🤢 (STD/I 101?!) - das not hot! 🛑 But wait, later, after she sees James hooking up with another man (Jackson if I remember!) she cries but still considers James her boyfriend- because they haven’t had the talk about breaking up 😵🤦🏻♀️ • With all these doubts and “what not’s” she still proceeds to “cheat” on James (who doesn’t give a flying f about her wellbeing!) with Xavier. Xavier breaks into her room and informs her he is her new boyfriend and because her body betrays her they f**k , but she has morals and she still thinks she and James can salvage this & be together!🤦🏻♀️ • But wait , (so many “buts” 😂) this train wreck is not over(dun… dun… duuunn - cue the thriller jingle) later - the next day or so the FMC is shown giving BJ to her much older teacher for a grade (everything is detailed 🤢) because let’s face it she really has to pass this class 🤦🏻♀️ (all this happens after she cheats on James - that she supposedly cares for but is also very much attracted to Xavier! ) Morals!? Naaahh this my gentle dark romance readers is your new dark romance genre (not the gore, unaliving, assault etc) -but cheating on more cheating… galore, OP detailed scenes and no back bone for the main characters … this is supposed to be dark!? Don’t question just embrace it because this is what writers are now shoving into dark romance genre to make it pitch black! So romantic and dark!! Wow, what are we going to do with ourselves! 😱😆 Whatever else happens later did not make me believe or root for any of these characters!

Absolutely loved - I had not read the original version with just Marissa’s POV so I went in blind reading this. Xavier is completely unhinged, possessive and charming and we love him for that. I can’t say much without spoiling the whole book but this is one you have to read - and you will either come out loving X or hating him 🤣🥰🫠🫶🏻
Taking her original story, Red Night, and making it better! I enjoyed this read just as much, if not more the second time around! This version was fantastic because she added in Xavier POV chapters which I felt added to the story so much! Definitely a great read if this genre of books is your normal style! Loved the additions she made and how much it added to the story!!!
Edited to include ALC review: Listening to Red Night made experiencing this book even better than when I first read it.
The casting was absolutely perfect. A lot of times it's hard to listen to a book after you've already read it because the characters already sound a certain way in your head, and I can say Sean Masters and Aisling Ren are exactly what I imagined Xavier and Marissa sounded like. I honestly don't know how they did it, but I swear the narrators brought the darkness of the story to life in such a way that was so freaking yummy.

Kitty King has once again taken my expectations and thrown them out the window. Is Xavier nuts? Yes, he is. But he also knows things like what you're craving on the third week of your cycle and builds your dream home for you!
One of the content warnings at the beginning of the book was that the story is very dark and twisted. For most of the book, I was thinking, "This is not that dark," but then that pitch-black freight train hit, and I was left gobsmacked. That sudden turn is so unexpected, and it shows just how unhinged and obsessed Xavier truly is.
Dark bits aside, this story is absolutely beautiful, in a twisted kinda way, and it even had me shedding a couple of sad and happy tears at times. I have not read the original version, so I can't comment on the changes made to the story. But what I can say is that once again, Kitty did an amazing job at giving us characters with depth who deal with real-life mental health issues, such as grief and insecurities. We were also introduced to some intriguing side characters whom I can't wait to read about in the next books of the series.
Quote: “These last few months with you have felt like a lifetime, but an eternity with you could never be enough for me. Marissa Matlock, I love you with every piece of my being. I’m obsessed with you.”
This special edition of Red Night was just as good or better than the first book. I loved how we got Xavier POV since we didn’t get that the first time. After reading this version I understand way more Xavier and why he was the way he was with Marissa. Since at first he only wanted to hurt her because he thought her dad was involved in what happened to his sister. After reading the book again and reading yeh scandalous part I didn’t think it was so bad this time specially because we get to know what was going on in his mind during that time. Have to say Xavier is still my favorite Color series characters.
Title: Red Night - Special Edition Author: Kitty King Genre: Dark College Spice: 🥵 Series: Special Edition
Thoughts - you will not be disappointed. This is a complete rework of Red Night, book 1, The Color Series. It includes duel POV which means we get an inside look at Xavier and finally get more of an understanding why he does what he does. After reading the Color Series it was great to go back and see all of the interconnected characters and their input from the start. Special mention to the car scene where we get a touch of vulnerability from Xavier, who doesn’t like a morally grey alpha MMC when they’re vulnerable.
Plot - Invited to an exclusive Red Night party, Marissa FMC is there to help her boyfriend explore his sexuality however she also catches the eye of a new admirer and he won’t take no for an answer.
If you like deranged men, Xavier is your guy. I really enjoyed the first part of this dark romance. And honestly I rooted for James. Glad we got to see his HEA. The plot was oke, but I didn’t need to last 10%. It did add to the bonding and relationship. But I don’t think I would ever forgive that.
If you like dark romance books, this is definitely a must read.
You may call Xavier Cardell morally grey, but I call him morally misunderstood. I mean is it really his fault that it takes Merissa so long to understand that all he wants to do is love and take care of her? The lengths this man goes to to give her all the things she wants in life are endearing. Ok, okaaay, so maybe if I'm being completely honest with you (and myself) Xavier is morally pitch black but I freaking love him for it!!!! He's obsessive, possessive, stalkerish, and a little psychotic...but damn does he make those things look and sound sooo good. The mouth on him hit all the right spots! I was soaking up the degradation and my panties throughout the ENTIRE book!!!!! Like Merissa, I found myself saying "I shouldn't want this. I shouldn't...but...I so do." This is absolutely a book I will re-read again and maybe again and again, which says a lot since I don't often re-read books with having a mile long tbr.
Before reading please check Trigger Warnings! I absolutely loved this book!!! Xavier is so unhinged and obsessed with Marissa! But, the way he cares and loves Marissa you'll fall in love with him! Perfectly written! If you love a dark romance with twists, I highly recommend you read SE Red Night!
Xaviers character growth and change of heart made me kick my legs and grin like a crazy lady. He is the ultimate morally grey man who's world shifts for her!
Seeing Marissa fight her own thoughts and feelings about him and what he has done gave us an insight into why she acted the way she did.
"I need her to raid my soul. I think she may the only one to save me."
This dual POV rewrite is perfection! I loved seeing the story from both Xavier and Marissa's POV. I have fallen in love with Xavier even more, and that's really saying something. Reading this made me want to go back and read the rest of the Color Series. Kitty hid so many Easter eggs in this book for her fans and I am here for it!
Thanks so much to Kitty King for sharing this story with me! All opinions are my own.
Thank you so much Kitty King for sending me an ARC copy of this book!
There are a few key things you should ask yourself before you decide to read this book.
Have you read the OG Red Night? No? Go read that first it enhances your experience of this book because all the missing pieces come together. Do you like a man who does and says the first thing that comes to his mind? How do you feel about murder, kinks, and stalkers?
This is a full rewrite of the original book, hence why I say it's best to begin there. Who knew we could love and obsess over the unhinged man we already fell in love with?
I have to say. I loved the original Red Night book I was able to read the entire book in under a day. The mystery behind what was happening with Xavier when he disappeared. Lots of things are answered and let me just say I had plenty of “Oh shit” moments and plenty of moments where I could connect the dots. I felt like you should read this book after you read the rest of the color series books because there are a few easter eggs throughout that I was like “OMG!!”.
Overall this book was written very very well. Kitty King has done an amazing job of developing Xavier's character further. He has transformed into the unhinged mini-mafia man we all fell in love with in the OG book.
I have always been a fan of Dual POV books because I love getting into the heads of both characters and let me just say Xavier's perspective does not disappoint.

Oh I love me some Xavier! The audio on this book was amazing! I love how they both brought the characters to life (sounded better than what I was imagining when I read the book the first time). I really loved this version because you get to read Xavier’s side!!!!
Marissa is an Art major but didn’t know what she wanted to do after she graduated. One day her and her boyfriend were invited to the infamous Red Night at a frat house. Let’s just say things got really hot and spicy and Xavier claimed Marissa as his forever!
Xavier had watched her from afar for 2 years waiting for the moment to tell her that she should be and will be a priority. *swooning over here* The man moves fast and doesn’t plan on letting Marissa go!
Check your triggers. Can’t wait to read the next book!
I’ve read the original, I’ve read the special edition and now I have listened to the special edition audio version. It is on fire!🔥This is a full rewrite of Red Night:Xavier’s Delight. I fell further in love with Xavier in this version. Being in his head makes you understand him so much more and why he does the things he does. Is he still a possessive walking red flag? Yes. Do I care? No.
This book was originally billed as a rewrite of Book 1 from Xavier's perspective. Somehow, it turned into this - a dual POV with very few changes. Yea, there were the added Xavier POVs, but that's it, and it wasn't shocking, surprising, or necessary.
This would have been much better had it been entirely in Xavier's POV revealing truths and plans from the beginning, then showing how they unraveled along with his feelings.
“You don’t have to call me your god, kitten. Master or sir or daddy will do just fine.”
This is a DARK stalker thriller. This will not be for everyone and you MUST check the TW/CW before starting. The content, both on and off page, will not be suitable for everyone. This covers very dark topics that may be triggering.
Kitty King has yet again blown my tiny mind with the phenomenal masterpiece that is Red Night. What an outstanding piece of art this is. I’ve never felt such strong conflicting emotions during a read as I did with this one.
One piece of advice I will give you; start this book when you can devour every last crumb in one sitting just like Bruce Bogtrotter did eating that chocolate cake in Matilda. You will not be sorry. I made the fatal mistake of starting midweek and seriously regretted that I couldn’t finish in one sitting (damn you work responsibilities). It was an addictive read, I was hooked instantly; it had its sensual fingers wrapped around my throat like a leather choker so tight I was left deliciously delirious. Pulling yourself away from that is a job and a half, I’ll tell you that now.
I’m currently living in my dark stalker era right now and this book ticked every box. Every. Damn. One. It was thrilling and had quite a few WTF moments that left you reeling but desperate for more. It was full of plot twists that you did not see coming. Kitty is the devil for pulling the wool over your eyes and ripping it away with such force you suffer whiplash.
Xavier is the definition of a stalker; a master stalker if you will. He is everything you would expect but oh so much more. This man doesn’t just run the 200m sprint, he’s in it for the long haul, and goes in for the marathon. The effort he puts in during the course of the book and the lengths he goes to shows the highest level of dedication. You can’t fault his commitment that’s for sure. Manipulation is second nature to him and he plays everyone like a fiddle. It’s astounding to witness as the story unfolds.
Kitty is the master at provoking emotions; the feelings this woman draws out of me are exceptional. This one brought the strongest feelings to the surface, primarily anger and sexual excitement. I’ve never had a book make me think such filthy thoughts and want to physically hurt the MMC so bad. It made me love and hate X at the same time, I was seriously conflicted for most of the book. It was intense and I LOVED it!
This book had a brilliantly structured plot; it was both challenging and fulfilling whilst full of emotional conflict and superbly written characters. It was totally incredible. Kitty always writes her characters with so much complexity and empathy. The level of detail that goes into them and their developments is exceptional. The trauma featured/mentioned in her books is always handled respectfully and with great care. Kitty creates worlds like no others, they are simply amazing; her world building is another level of awesome. Everything about this book just worked, it was truly brilliant.
X is everything and something else entirely. He made me both hate and love him all at once. I was raging but swooning at the same time. It was a lot of strong feelings to deal with; I was stuck in a perpetual emotional whirlwind. He was nothing short of a god; but a god who was also a complete unhinged psychopath. He was charming, loveable, drop dead gorgeous but also dark, depraved and sinful. He was the dark and light at the same time. It was difficult to not fall HARD for him and I fell hard fast. This man is my weakness. Marissa is your beautiful girl that goes unnoticed in her day to day life, her need to put everyone else first pushes her further into the background which drowns her confidence and feelings of self worth. I could see a little bit of myself in Marissa and I rooted for her from the beginning as she deserved so much more. Watching her confidence come back during the book was heartwarming. Granted X completely took advantage of her vulnerable state but they were what each other needed to grow and heal. I seriously enjoyed the interactions between the pair, it made for a sensually erotic read. Kitty definitely pushes the boundaries with this one, it was HOT.
Where to start! i don't know what Kitty poured into this book, but it was addictive .. I couldn't put it down.
Marissa and her boyfriend are invited to a very exclusive party organised by the top Fraternity House. Essentially, it's one big 0*gy - a free for all, no rules, wild night .. Perfect for her boyfriend Jason to explore his peaking fantasies (p.s. He's an ass. We don't like him 🤭) Whilst at said party, Marissa gets up close and person with Frat President Xavier. OMG - This man gave me whiplash. lol .. my neck is still sore 😆 It was very clear to me that Xavier had alterior motives to inviting Marissa, and what becomes of their relationship will have u hooked. I mean, do u really expect ur recent hookup to be at ur parents' house making friends with ur mum? I think not 🤣
The character development of Xavier was wild, I thought I knew who he was and what his intentions were, but I was so wrong .. see, he's had his eye on Marissa for a long time - but not in the way u think, his initial intentions are thwarted when he catches feelings - she's his obsession, this wasn't the plan, but now he needs her, more than anything and when she discovers his secrets, there's no way she's escaping him, he will not allow it - but does she really want to? I'm as conflicted as Marissa 🤣

After the fierce look on her face tonight, I know... I need her to raid my soul. I think she may be the only one to save me.
Wow, this was amazing - highly addictive, compelling, intriguing and extremely spicy!
Genre: Dark romance Tropes: College, stalker, obsessed MMC, secrets, BDSM, super spicy, breeding. Trigger warnings:
"Oh my god, put me down, Xavier!" "You don't have to call me your god, kitten. Master or sir or daddy will do just fine."
ARC review: I haven't read the first version of this story, so I don't know exactly how it's changed. But man, I loved this one so much! It was incredibly spicy, very addictive and with a solid storyline, great character development and enough teasers/easter eggs about the other couples that I'm now heavily invested in reading their stories as well.
Marissa Matlock is an interesting FMC. She came off as meek and very innocent and dependent on others, but she slowly grew to be a very strong and confident woman. I really enjoyed seeing her character development, her way of dealing with her past and her actually going after what she wanted in her future. Xavier Cardell as the MMC, was every bit the obsessed, unhinged stalker that I expected. He didn't necessarily change for Marissa, but his character really did grow as well.
I love how unapologetic Xavier was in his reasoning, he did what he wanted and expected total control. He might come off as too controlling and obsessed, but getting his back story and his POV really showed a different side, that I really liked him slowly letting Marissa see. The obsession really turned to utter devotion, protection and a very fierce love! Marissa also managed to stand up for Xavier, even though she couldn't deny the pull - I mean, talk about sizzling HOT chemistry! The spice was spicing, and it was both relevant and story-driving, while also being very inventive and varied, and almost too hot at times…
The built-up of the suspense and all the alluding to the secrets was very intriguing. However, I must say, I was just a smidge let-down with the reveal. Although, the twist and the relationship development really made up for it. I can't really say that much about it, except it was both heart-wrenching and a real turning point that gave even more depth to both MC's.
❤️ᴍʏ ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ❤️ Kitty Girl you absolutely blew me away with this book!! Whoa!!🤯😂 now I didn’t read the original one but this one right here was just unforgettable plus it was/is spicy asf!!! I literally couldn’t put this book down!! I absolutely loved the story plot and the FMC and MMC are😍😍! Xavier and Marissa are literally amazing together!! Ya’ll said Xavier was gonna make me mad but if I’m being completely honest he did not make me mad at all so I don’t know if that’s a red flag or what but I’m completely okay with it!😂 literally all the things I want to say about Xavier and Marissa I feel like I would would spoil the whole book and I don’t want to tell any spoilers!! But ♾️ out of 10 I would totally recommend this book! Especially if you love a book that is a dark college romance with lots of spice and I mean lots of spice, stalker romance, Stockholm syndrome and the villain wins then this is the book for you! And you will not regret reading it I promise!!❤️❤️❤️
Can one red envelope change how you view everything in your life? Will a night of debauchery show you the true colors of your relationship? Xavier falls for Marissa instantly and will stop at nothing to make her his. He gives her the love and life she’s always wanted but will it be enough for her to forgive him for his dark secret? If you’re looking for a fast paced story with some excellent spice, then you’ll definitely want to give this book a read. This will leave you loving, hating, and loving the characters till the end. Loved this story from start to finish.
******* I used my previous review of the original version of Red Night and I’m going to add onto it for the Special Edition.
As I stated before, I loved this book from start to finish. I had my doubts about Xavier, but in the end he won me over. Now with the Special Edition we get Xavier’s POV. And I can’t believe how much it enhanced the story. To see how Xavier thought and did the things he did was an amazing addition to the storyline. I enjoyed watching him fall in love with Marissa from his POV. The lengths that he would go to so he can protect her 🙂↕️ yes please. That professor scene?? 😏 Now that’s love 🤣
If you truly enjoyed the original version then you will absolutely love Red Night Special Edition.
As always read the TWs. They’re there for a reason.
Daddy Xavier is even more unhinged then before. With this new rewrite you see things from his point of view as well as so much more content then before. She added 150+pages of juicy, spicy, deliciousness. Marissa is a sweet girl who deserves a man to worship her and show her how amazing she is. Even if he locks her in a BdSM basement and turns into a little ćüm kitten. Xavier wants to ruin Marissa but as soon as he gets inside of her he knows he won’t be able to go through with his plan. Not after realizing she is truly everything he wants. Does he stalk her…ABSOLUTELY. Does he build her, her dream cabin by stalking her Pinterest boards… Hell Yes. Did I still love him even though there was a moment where he absolutely did something I wasn’t sure I could forgive… ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY!!! 😂😂 Marissa is the calm to Xavier storm and it is a great ying-yang balance. If you like a bad boy stalker who wants to breed you a give you a litter of babies, Xavier is for you. If you can’t handle a hands on dark Dom then I wouldn’t suggest this read. He is morally charcoal and he doesn’t even care. I hope you love Daddy X as much as I did!!!

I loved the original Red Night and didn't know how Kitty could possibly improve it, but my god, Xavier's point of view was everything! Getting inside of his twisted and depraved mind was absolutely amazing. I kept going back and forth between wanting to hate him and wanting to be with him. Kitty didn't toe the line between Xavier's psychotic and possessive side when it came to Marissa, she leapt over it and never looked back.
This is a dark college romance that has a lot of focus on prior tr@üm@s for both of the main characters. The book follows Marissa and Xavier as they come together after hooking up at Red Night-a night of debauchery put on by Xavier and his college frat (rich secret society type of vibe). Little does Marissa know that Xavier has been st@lking her for years and is finally ready to make her his. Their relationship is unconventional and he is delectably morally grey.
This book starts out with a s3x party occurring in the first few chapters-thank you, Kitty, for not edging us for long! The spice in this book is top notch. Even with the drenching spice, this book is stuffed with a wonderfully structured plot and characters that I fell in love with. And the twists that Kitty crafted into this story will have your emotions on a rollercoaster ride. I loved delving into Xavier's mind and seeing his obsession with Marissa turn to devotion. Absolute perfection.

First I would like to say I didn’t read the original and please check the trigger warning(s) - but I love this version! Kitty King out did herself with this revamped version of Red Night. Xavier is unredeemable and very unhinged. Kitty was right when she said that Xavier doesn’t grovel. But he did apologize to Marissa, love that. Marissa is a girl very likable and I love her! Xavier is CRAZY and he made me laugh and be anger at him sometimes. But overall, I freaking love this book so much. I love how it’s dark and it shows the BDSM world. But I do not recommend this book to everyone. If you’re into diet romance please don’t read! If you’re a dark romance lover and love the mix of BDSM then this book is for you!
