The alternative way towards better team-building, this is the bestselling management tool from the author of The One Minute Manager. Most managers spend over half their time working with a team, and the One Minute Manager's practical advice shows how any team can work better and more effectively. The One Minute Manager Builds High Performing Teams explains the four stages on the way to building a high performing Orientation, Dissatisfaction, Resolution and Production and reveals how to tap the creativity and potential of people at all levels in order to become an effective group leader.
I really liked the book, I found a lot of value in it. I must say I’m not sure if it should’ve been shorter or it was perfectly structured to the reader’s understanding.
Highly recommend it if you’re new to a senior, manager or leader position. And a very good reference if you’ve been there for a while.
This book shares a very interesting view on the stages of teamwork. I'd give 5 stars for the ideas that the book presents (which can be summarized in 2 pages); the writing style, on the other hand, doesn't even deserve 3 stars; This book contains a lot of time-wasting repetition and is written in a way as if the readers are young children.
The One Minute Manager Builds High Performing Teams
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 3.5
I REALLY enjoy The One Minute Manager series 💙 Earlier this month I read The NEW One Minute Manager and absolutely loved that one. I still think about it!
With this OMM, Building High Performing Teams — it was really informative and had some good stuff. But it was all just surface level.
Which is fine, gives me a reason to read more books about management 😜 but I was really enjoying what I was reading and wanted to know more about the topics discussed.
I also really enjoyed that their were two references to dogs 🐶!
Favorite Quotes 💬 “Your job is to educate your people, to help them develop to the point where they can take responsibility for their work and to give them opportunities to perform.”
“Empowerment is all about letting go so that others can get going.” [loved this one! Especially for those biz owners who want to control everything and not trust their staff/team. You have to let go in order to grow!]
I think the "story" is good and the process is ok... the UNDERLYING principles that make the process effective are very important and completely missing from the book. Things such as knowledge workers being highly motivated by autonomy and an opportunity to master their craft. When you know the underlying stuff, any process will do so I suppose if you just want a process without bothering to know the fundamentals, then just do what the book says. Otherwise, read about the fundamentals in books like "First, Break All the Rules".
Loved the book. Precise, intriguing, and challenging built norms. Probably one of the best books I have read so far on this particular genre. Everyone, from managers of small teams to big-time entrepreneurs, should read this if they’re trying to build an effective and great team!
Sadly, for me this was the worst book from the series so far - it feels like the overall theme again with a slightly different topic (here teams instead of general leadership) and the story felt too constructed.
Still, I like the approach and idea to tell stories to explain how different management styles and especially the situational leadership works and can be applied.
Read for class. It was fine. The characterization and "storyline" made it a bit more clunky than I would have preferred. While I have the highlights noted without much effort, I still could've skipped the drawn out story.
Iv read this 1 &1/2 times and still couldn't really tell you anything it was trying to teach me. It just wasn't going in. It got to the point where I just went through the motions just to be able to click finished. Read another in series tho which was a lot better so will try others.
“ your job as a manager is to help people and teams develop so they have confidence and commitment and their ability to share in making decisions.” If you’re a fan of the One Minute Manager brand, you’ll probably like this book.
This short, concise book packs a punch. Interesting views on team dynamics and the role of leaders. The style of writing was a bit hokey, but I greatly appreciated the author getting to the point and consolidating ideas into a short but effective book.
This book has opened a new dimension of team work and leadership style for me. It's a beautiful book and it has given a new horizon of reasearch in the area.
Some useful concepts (PERFORM model), but nothing particularly innovative: primarily recycling Situational Leadership model for the purpose of team leadership.
