Kalum

It is my last year in high school, and I plan to sail through my senior year with the hottest girl on my arm. But when a new girl moves into my house, school, and life, I'm determined not to let her presence dim my spotlight. But as I grow closer to her, I feel an attraction I can't resist. I have to decide between the girl I thought I wanted and the one I can't live without. They say first loves don't last forever, but nothing prepared me for her until… it was too late.

Aura

Still reeling from the death of both my parents, I'm left without options except moving in with another family for room and board in exchange for a job as their new housekeeper after I graduate. Attending Elite Spencer Academy as a senior in the richest part of town, I have to navigate through the labyrinth of emotions and find myself torn between two captivating worlds. Until I meet Kalum. He was perfect. He was beautiful. Until… he spoke.

When my world crumbles, I meet Lane. Lane offers me refuge from a broken heart and a passion as intense as the engines he rebuilds. My heart has to navigate the treacherous waters of life's most profound emotions, and my choice would shape the destiny of not one but two loves.

My name is Aura Rayne, and this is our story.

"If you love someone enough you let them go, even if they don’t come back to you. If that is not love, then I don’t know what is."

This was a bittersweet story... very beautiful, but extremely emotional!!!
I loved Aura and Kalum, but I also loved Lane, so my heart was hurting for everyone in here!!!
This was a story about first love, about loss and grieving...
It was a story about second loves that could heal you... and about second chances!!!
This was a story that was punching you repeatedly, and other times you were just smiling and other times sorrow was making you a train wreck, but it was a story that was grabbing you from the very first page and that you couldn't stop reading until you reached the last one!!!

Aura's life changed instantly...
She lost her beloved parents and she went to leave in a wealthy house, but not without paying a price... The son of the family, Kalum made clear from the beginning that he didn't like Aura and he tried to make her life miserable... It was a classic reaction for a boy to a girl who was making an impact to him...
And then, Kalum and Aura against all odds, they became something more, but it didn't last for long!!!
So, after her heartbreak, Aura found solace in Lane's arms... and Lane became important to her.

In the second part of the book, time is moving five years forward and Aura is living through a new tragedy and now, her first love is coming back to her life to make her feel safe again...
But things have changed and she can not trust a guy that hurt her so badly!!!
Kalum is not the same boy he used to be... He had changed too, but he never forgot the girl he had to let go...
Is there a chance your first love to become your last one??? And what cost do you have to pay for that to happen???

I liked Aura very much, even though her insecurities were driving me crazy...
She was a broken girl and she had lived through many ugly things in her life and still, she was doubting herself and the ones around her...
She was both strong and weak and she was giving me whiplash!!!
She never realized how lucky she was that she had two amazing men loving and protecting her...

Kalum and Lane were supposed friends... I really needed a little bit more infos in this friendship between them though...
Kalum was kind of a jerk in the beginning, but I was rooting for him from the very first moment... Aura and his love for her changed him and he proved us here how much a person can sacrifice for the one he loves!!!
As for Lane??? He was sweet, kind and very protective... I really liked the guy, even though he was the second choice. Lol!!! I just wanted more depth on him and the relationship he was sharing with Aura!!
And his letters??? OMG!!! I was swooning over them!!!

And now, you would think that this was a love triangle, but honestly, it wasn't... The author gave us this story with a very beautiful way and an acceptable reasoning of what happened here!!!
I just wish that Carmen had given us more depth and excesion to some facts and POVs to understand better these three...
Still... my heart was pounding so hard as I was reading the story and it touched something deep inside me!!!
Kalum and Aura just meant to be and when you really love someone, you can find him again along the way!!!

Aura loses both of her parents in a car crash with no other family to take her in when she is almost 18 years old. Aura ends up with a rich family that takes her in as a housekeeper so she can continue to attend school until she graduates.

Surprise, the St Clair’s have a son the same age as Aura and unfortunately, he didn’t know anything about her until he finds her in their kitchen in a school uniform. Kalum is caught completely off guard by her from day 1 but instead of being decent, he bullies her. Kalum runs hot and cold with Aura where he wants to protect her but at the same time he doesn’t know how to handle his feelings. Their chemistry is off the charts.

Aura did manage to make a friend at school in Exie who becomes her best friend. She has an older brother Lane that is also one of Kalum’s old friends. He already graduated and builds cars where he runs into Aura interested in buying a Jeep. Lane is taken by her immediately but doesn’t pursue her when she leaves only to find out later that it’s his sister’s friend.

Rich parents do what rich parents do and try to buy her off when she turns 18 to get her to leave when they realize that Kalum is interested in her. Aura runs from the St Clair’s without Kalum knowing and Lane stumbles across her fleeing and wants to help her out with a place to go….Aura tells him about everything that happened. There is a slow build up for Lane and Aura and when it finally happens it happens.

This story made my heart ache, made me want to smack around both the guys at different times and made me laugh at other times. This is a beautifully written second chance romance. There is no cheating in this book as the twists in the book will keep you on your toes. Make sure you have your tissues but you will cry at some point. I can’t say anymore without giving spoilers but this was a fantastic read and I absolutely recommend.

After Aura's life is turned upside down from the sudden loss of her parents, she ends up living with a wealthy family that treats her horribly. Their son, Kalum and her end of falling in love but his family will absolutely not stand for it, and she once again finds herself alone. When she meets Lane and falls in love with him, Aura thinks she got her second chance for an HEA. When tragedy strikes Aura's life again she is left reeling and picking up the pieces of her broken heart yet again. When Kalum reenters her life can he prove he's a changed man and be what Aura needed from him all those years ago, and prove that she can trust him with her heart? Until Us is an emotional story that will have you turning the pages faster than you can read them to find out what happens next. Aura was one heck of a strong woman to keep pushing forward after all the tragedy she endured. I absolutely loved that everything worked out for her in the end. She deserved all the happiness lie could give her. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I would have really loved to hear Lane's POV at a few points in the story. I think the reader could've understood him more if we were able to get a glimpse into his head. Overall a fantastic book that I would definitely recommend.

I had literal heart aches reading this!

You’re lucky in life if you find someone who loves you and wants to risk everything just to be with you… but when you find two of your greatest loves it’s a really something special.

Aura looses her parents just before she turns eighteen and is forced to live in a strangers home and be their housekeeper to their spoiled and ungrateful son who is coincidentally the same age. He bullies her when he sees her in his kitchen the morning of her first day at the new private school. He makes sure every one at the academy knows who she is and who owns her, therefore making her life miserable.

Then one night he hears her sobbing because she misses her parents, and he comforts her, solidifying his feelings of love. Though he denies it because his parents would never allow them to be together. And sure enough, they figure it out and try to pay her off.

She refuses the money, gracefully shows her gratitude and leaves, running into Lane, her best friend’s brother and he saves her. They fall in love and have a child and he tragically dies in one of his race cars. Lanes parents are hell bent on destroying her, he never got into the family business and because Aura doesn’t come from money, she was never welcome.

Lane leaves her everything and guarantees someone will be there to protect her and their son and all of his secrets in the automotive world. It’s turns out that it’s her first love from school and he vows to be everything she needs forever.

It’s a beautifully written and heart breaking tale of love and loss.

Until Us was an absolute emotional roller-coaster. I admit I felt like raging at a few characters in this story.

Rich people suck. Or maybe not all!

Aura has had a real tough go at life lately. Then, to top it off, she gets thrown into living with the St Claire's as a live-in cleaner. "The help"

Kalum's mother declares she attend school and ride with him every day. Though as soon as they meet, he is an over the top freaking ass crack and tells her absolutely no way is she getting in his car or space EVER.

Kalum is attracted to Aura just as she is to him. As they get closer and their feelings deepen, others threaten to break them.

Lane is the sweetest. But I wanted to beat him over the head. Who disappears like that for that long? You really have to read this book to know what I'm talking about.
I got so frustrated I wanted to through my device. 😤

But Aura really put up with so much. it's a wonder she never broke down. She was a strong woman.

This book was absolutely EVERYTHING. I loved it from start to finish, and it definitely deserves all the stars.

Thank you, Carmen, for the ARC copy.

If you love someone enough you let them go, even if they don’t come back to you. If that isn’t love, then I don’t know what is.

Until Us was so different to what I’ve come to expect Carmen Rosales. There were no gangs or Mexican cartels just an emotional and touching story of forbidden love and second chances as the eighteen-year-old Aura meets the love of her life Kalum. But his passively aggressive parents had no intention of allowing their only son and heir to be with a nobody from the wrong side of town. Waiting in the wings was Lane, her best friends' brother. He rescued her and healed her broken heart when she was lost and alone and with him, she found a more settled kind of love until it was torn away and Kalum, now a high-powered businessman came back into her life. The characters, the beautiful writing all came together and swept me up into the world of this book and before I knew it, I’d reached the end of what was for me, a close to perfect romance. The only thing stopping me from giving Until Us five stars is I would’ve liked to read more from Lane’s point of view as the letters he left for Aura and Kalum were so touching, they touched my heart. Now I’m hoping for Cason’s story.

A rewrite of her two books, Until Her and Until Now, combining them into one, Until Us was captivating and gave me all the feels. From glowing to tears, to anger, to wanting to feel Lane or Kalum’s hands on me.

This isn’t just a love story, but a life story of Aura and the two men she loved who loved her back fiercely. Yet her social status and theirs were conflicting.

So many times I was yelling at the pages… Kalum’s hot and cold shifts were infuriating, yet I was telling her to just tell him already or just kiss him. Just (insert appropriate action word)😂 Lots of plot with steam mixed in, but not overly.

Well done Carmen Rosales! 👏🏼

I am a fan of this author! This book just was not it for me . The characters fell flat. alot of things happened without explanation which left me confused. Like she left the Kelum and he was devastated. Then she went to her friend Lane and fell in love with him. She got pregnant and he left for like 6 months. Then came back and he's like I love you. Like where did he go for so long. Just alot of holes in story.

This is a romance with a lighter tone compared to Carmen’s other books, that said it is still has many emotional highs and lows to navigate before you get to the end of the book.
The story follows Aura after the loss of both of her parents. She meets two men, Kalum and Lane and ultimately has to choose between them.
This story is not simple and it does not track the way you think it would and this is what makes it interesting.
I was umming and ahring about whether to give this a 4 or 5 star and I ended up choosing the 4 star option because the only thing that I wish had been done a little differently was for Lane to give his own thoughts. It would have given a more emotional impact to read from his point of view but, I get why he had to remain that little bit of a mystery based on the second part of the book!
What a conundrum, once you get to that point you will know what I mean!
Don’t take that as a big negative as it was a small point and I still really enjoyed this book. This is a recommended read!

On this book! Carmen had my emotions wrapped up in her characters and this story. I read this in one sitting, could not put it down. I was gutted, but then put back together. Hands down, one of my top reads of 2024. Highly recommend reading this book, or any books from Carmen for that matter.

WOW!! This book is a truly epic love story. I could not put this one down and I got nothing done for the day BUT I regret nothing lol
Aura is a beautiful soul who experiences loss beyond words. No matter what life throws at her she shows she is resilient and handles things that would certainly break me, with nothing but grace. She is an inspiration and I love to read about strong women. She has not one but two men who would do anything to make her happy (what more can a girl ask for?). If you are looking for a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat this is the book. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions!
This book will break your heart just put it back together again. Just like other books from Carmen Rosales, the spice is on point! If I could give this book 10 stars I would.
I will never stop recommending this book to my fellow readers.

Most people are lucky to find one true love but to find two? This story is absolutely beautiful. Did I want to punch both of the MMCs at one point?? Heck yes! They both loved Aura deeply and she loved them both just as deeply. This is not a why choose and no cheating between the main characters. The emotions I felt after the “five years later” 😭😭 That man loved her so much he gifted her with the best thing he could have. He truly wanted her to be as happy as she made him. 💕I’m trying to not give any spoilers. Just read this book!! That’s the best advice I can give you. Just stop what you’re reading and go read it. Go ahead and prepare to be in your feels and fall in love with these characters (except the snotty parents). The FMC gets to experience two different loves.

Oh man, I couldn't put it down. It sucks you in and doesn't let go!! Aura had such a hard start, and the hits kept coming. I absolutely love that Lane and Kalum both decided they would rely on the other if something happened. Aura was so lucky to have loved Lane and still find love again with Kalum. It's like a second chance romance but not!! Have some tissues ready for this book!!

This one hurt, a lot. (I've been crying for hours now)

I'm spinning it in my head about how to start and how to write this review, but I'm coming empty handed.

I have no words to describe this book, because I know whatever word I use it would not give this book justice.

This book is beautiful, plot is great, rich with emotions. It left me speechless.

This is one of my all time favorite duets and authors. After the death of her parents, Aura went to live with the St. Claire’s. Little did she know her whole world was about to be flipped upside down once again.

This was originally released as two separate books and has been re-edited and new scenes have been added. Just a heads up… have tissues ready. 🖤🔥🏁🔥🖤

•“But our storm was beautiful, destructive, one of a kind. It was ours. It was us”-Kalum St. Claire

𝕄𝕪 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤:
•Honestly, I was truly captivated by the writing and character development. The relation I had to all characters was unreal. Having that kind of connection to fictional characters really makes a book so much better! The love triangle pulled on every heart string I had to give! The fight to prove that Aura was good enough, that Kalum was actually there for her, and that Lane wouldn’t walk out, brought out every emotion possible! If you love a great second chance love story, with a dash of darkness…READ THIS NOW!

Do I recommend it? ✔️

Tropes: Contemporary romance, forbidden romance, forced proximity, second chance, opposite sides of the tracks, new adult, love triangle vibes, opposites attract, first love, traumatic past

It's Kalum's last year in high school, and he plans to sail through his senior year with the hottest girl on his arm. But when a new girl moves into his house, school, and life, he's determined not to let her presence dim his spotlight. But as he grows closer to her, he feels an attraction he can't resist. This book utterly wrecked me but put me back together in the best way. I felt every emotion there was. My heart felt all of Aura's struggles, especially her grief. I struggled with my feelings for Kalum, but his overall growth was commendable. Lane has a special place in my heart. The plot was unique in it's delivery and I ate up every page. This book is why the romance genre was created. I highly recommend this read. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

After her parents' sudden and unexpected deaths, Aura finds herself in a unique and unusual situation. Instead of heading into the foster care system, she's moved in with a wealthy family to work as their maid until her 18th birthday, and she finishes high school.

What that wealthy family didn't expect was for their son to fall in love with her.

This book had a lot of high and low points for me. Overall, I enjoyed the story. The struggles faced by Aura, Kalum, and Lane added a deeper layer to the story as a whole. It was a real page turner, in that I couldn't wait to see what happened next.

Kalum was exactly what you'd expect in an enemies to lovers romance. He saw Aura. He wanted Aura. So he acted like a jerk. And, as expected, she changed him. He became a better person because of her, despite his parents.

Lane, who is not represented with his own POV in the book, is a bit mysterious. Knowing he has feelings for Aura and the way he treats her is positively swoon-worthy. However, I felt as the story went on, the author was trying to paint him in a not-so-bright light without really having any deeper meaning as to why. At some point, it was as though he was supposed to be the bad guy, though I still don't understand why.

As for the leading lady, Aura. I found that lacked basic self-awareness. She projected confidence and even had a boyfriend - the quarterback at her old school. She had no problem putting Kalum in his place. But then, she was suddenly insecure and second-guessing everything. And a chapter later, that confidence was back.

Aura was her own worst enemy, and it became increasingly annoying the more it went on. She wanted to be self-reliant and independent, but when asked what she wanted to do, she had never given it any thought.

I had previously read Until Her but I read it again in this duet with Until Us and I devoured this duet in one sitting. I absolutely LOVED Aura and Kalum. These two poor souls went through so much and because one was rich and one was poor and obviously they couldn't be together because of their status they went through so much because of that.

It obviously took them years to get to where they needed to be in order to finally be together. She went through hell and back, but in that, she also met a wonderful guy who took her in when she was fired from her job at the St. Claire's home as a maid and she had no one and nowhere to go and this wonderful guy picked her up and took her in and because of them spending so much time together she falls for him and falls pregnant with his child.

Well all in all she marry's him after having his kid but tragedy strikes a few years later and she ends up alone with her child and her husband left letters to her lost love from her past as they were friends and she ends up having issues with his family so Kalum has to look out for her.

She is skeptical and is having a hard time trusting him. Can Kalum redeem himself and show Aura that he's a changed man and he's no longer that bully teenager he was when she first met him?

Aura was Kalum's true love as he was her's as well. Can they both accept that they were meant to be together?

GAHHHH this duet had my heart soaring and these two really made my heart beat for them. I loved them so much!!

Kalum, on the brink of his final high school year, is set on living out his senior year with popularity and pride. However, the arrival of Aura, a new girl who unexpectedly becomes part of his household and life, challenges his plans. As Kalum's initial resistance gives way to undeniable attraction, he is faced with a pivotal choice between the allure of his high school fantasy and the deep, compelling connection he discovers with Aura.

On the other hand, Aura's narrative is one of resilience and rebirth. Following the devastating loss of her parents, she finds herself in an unfamiliar world, navigating the dynamics of a new school, a new role, and the emotional turmoil of her evolving relationships. Her journey becomes even more complex with the introduction of Lane, who presents a path diverging from her connection with Kalum, fraught with passion and healing.

"Until Us" is a poignant exploration of first loves, the pain of loss, and the courage it takes to embrace vulnerability. Rosales skillfully crafts a narrative that is both heart-wrenching and hopeful, urging readers to reflect on the impact of choices in the journey of life and love. With vivid characters and emotionally charged storylines, this novel is a compelling read for those who are drawn to stories of heartfelt romance and personal growth.
