Danny and Alexis’s story continues in this story as things became even more difficult for the two lovers. Danny and Alexis had a lot of obstacles to overcome in order to be together from a fake engagement/ marriage that Alexis had no choice, but to go along with for the sake of her freedom to both of them sneaking around in secret to have moments together, things weren’t ever simple for Alexis and Danny. With yet another cliffhanger from the previous book, it set off another chain of events that put the pressure on Alexis and Danny, and tested their relationship again and again. This sports romance was fast paced, easy to follow along, and with tropes from bad boy/good girl, friends to lovers, athlete/pop star, steamy romance, and likable characters.
I swear Danny and Alexis couldn’t catch a break! Just when things look to be lightening up or having a sweet moment, reality then crashes, and reminds both Danny and Alexis that their lives together were only going to get harder.
I will say that with Alexis going along with the fake engagement/marriage made me feel bad for her because, she was literally being blackmailed, manipulated, and forced into it by her own dad! At every point when the impending marriage to Brooks came up, I just held onto the hope that Alexis or Danny would find a way to prevent it from happening. Regardless of Alexis thinking that getting a divorce later would settle everything, I had my doubts that it would all tie up nicely. Alexis and Danny just wanted to be together, plain and simple. Whereas, Alexis’s dad wanted make the merger happen, he guilted her into going along with his plans by any means necessary like, emotional blackmail.
Man this book was just filled with lots of drama for the two love birds. Again, more drama, more obstacles, and unexpected surprises that made life more difficult for Danny and Alexis. From the emotional manipulation to outright blackmail, Alexis and Danny’s dad were most definitely not fathers of the year, but more like trash of the year! Ugh, the Dad’s in this book really made me mad. Although, I was also getting frustrated with Alexis at some points too. I understand the complicated situation that Alexis was in, but for her to be like, “I don’t want to marry him”, but then when offered a potential solution from Danny, she refused and said she couldn’t do that, it made Alexis to me seem like she couldn’t make up her mind. Compared to the other books, this one focused a bit more on the complicated nature of Danny and Alexis’s relationship and future together. As always, there was yet another cliffhanger that ended in a dramatic fashion, and left me wanting to know what Alexis would do next. If you like fast paced, quick sports romances with some spice, little bit of drama, and likable characters, then you should give this book/ series a read.
