Penny is having the worst year. First the pretty lizard aliens show up and start murdering people. Then the “good aliens” arrive and claim they’ll defend Earth and save humanity … for a price. She knows a protection racket when she sees one. And the price? Married to an alien? No thank you.
Kol has one mission: destroy the Suhlik. He’s not interested in this new planet, Earth, or the strange soft-skinned inhabitants. On a scouting mission, he catches the luscious scent of his mate and must find her in the rubble of a ruined city and bring her to the safe zone.
When Kol is wounded protecting Penny, she just can’t leave him to freeze to death in a blizzard. Besides, no one is asking her to marry him, just keep him from becoming a popsicle. She doesn’t trust him and all this nonsense about being his mate could be hypothermia talking. The more time she spends with the brawny alien warrior, the more she can’t deny the heat between them.
Once she is safe in his powerful embrace, being married to an alien is looking better by the minute.
Book 1 of the Snowed In With... series, as well as the Warlord Brides. Stand Alone, HEA, No Cheating and No Cliffhangers.
Nancey writes fun, fast and flirty scifi romances featuring feisty heroines and out-of-this-world heros. Nancey lives in an old house with her husband and two cats who have complaints with management. When she’s not writing, she enjoys video games, horror movies and anything involving time travel.
If a man, alien or not, proudly introduced himself by suggesting, like it's a matter of fact, that I belong to him and will soon give birth to his strong, healthy sons— I would castrate him with a plastic spoon. I'm not necessarily a hater of mating or pregnancies in books, hell, I can even enjoy the trope of repopulation and breeding, but please: stop describing women like they're walking incubators, it's nasty. How do you even fall for someone who sees you as a sassy, fertile eye-candy.
3.5 stars - the difference a clever, capable heroine, who doesn‘t fall on her butt while breathing and chewing gum, makes. Even when the plot and world building are mediocre.
If you’re looking for a cozy and sweet, but also a little naughty read, then settle down with Snowed in with the Alien Warlord! You have Penny, a young woman who was on the outside when destruction hit and Earth was invaded. She’s alone, struggling for supplies…but not for long. She lands herself a fine, devil of an alien man. But first, she has to save him from freezing to death.
I adored Kol. He’s big, he’s red, and completely endearing. Oh, he also has tusks, a tail, and…spines! *wink* Despite how big and rough-looking he is, he’s a big ole softie to Penny, and wants nothing more than to win her claim on his as his mate.
I really enjoyed reading Penny and Kol. Nancey writes some feel good, nearly instant love, ‘gotta-get-my-awwwws-fix’ stories, and I recommend this for these chilly days/nights ahead!
Meh... I actually started this book a few months ago (before my book rut), and had lost interest around 45%.
I decided yesterday to try and finishing out some of my “started but not finished” books (there’s a lot lol). Anywho, it was ok for a quick little sci-fi smut type read.
Some elements of this story were cool. The FMC is super capable and saves the big bad alien. The world building and the plot were a little bit all over the place as well as the pacing though. There were parts of this that felt like I was reading the second or third book in a series and was just supposed to know things.
Honestly this was so much better than I assumed it would be going in. A fun sci-fi, post apocalyptic alien romance with an FMC, Penny, who was smart, resourceful, and reacted very realistically imo. The MMC, Kol, also was a sweetheart. A very fun, snowned-in vibes survival-light romance story.
I have a particular soft spot for two people being snowed in and forced to get to know one another (and share body heat!), so Penny and Kol's situation was already hitting a high note for me. Throw in a devastated planet (alien invasion!), some VERY bad aliens putting our couple in a few desperate situations, and a miscommunication or two when it comes to translating human idioms (ALWAYS amusing) and I was one happy reader.
As for Penny and Kol...well, she's hiding out in the ruins of her broken city and he's got the hots for her as soon as he catches her scent. To say she wasn't interested in hooking up with an alien at first would be putting it lightly. Then they start communicating and she learns more about him and his people and, I dunno, all the things she didn't learn because she was out in the wilds instead of in the safe zone and THINGS HAPPEN.
As for Kol, he's smitten with his potential mate from the first, but gives her time to grow accustomed to the idea of them. After all, he KNOWS she's the one for him, but she doesn't have that same instincts he does and he refuses to force her into anything she's not interested in.
Good thing for both of them, Penny gets over her hangups about aliens fairly quickly and MAGIC HAPPENS. Or at least sexy times.
Aliens of both the good and bad variety, dangerous situations, and a battered world. GOOD STUFF!
This started out really good to me. I liked the main characters, I was getting some chuckles out of it, and it was quite enjoyable. And then it just sort of wasn't. The set up here was good. Bad aliens that look like insects show up and begin attacking the Earth. Good aliens that are red and have tusks show up to save the day. For a price. A bride price. Without the consent of the people, the governments have made an alliance with them to save the planet, and in exchange they will allow the warriors to claim women who they think are their mates as long as they test high enough in compatibility. Okay, cool.
Penny is a college student living with her Aunt who just happened to be on the wrong side of the river when the attacks started. Since then she has managed to survive on her own without being caught by either side. For some stupid reason she thinks her aunt would never find her if she left the house. But winter is coming. Yeah, I said it. And it's coming fast. A blizzard is on it's way and Penny wanted to charge some battery packs before it hits. Or try to cross the bridge to safety, but that won't happen as long as the big red alien keeps pacing it.
Kol scented his mate the moment that he touched down on the planet and he's been trying to find her. He has gotten close, but still has yet to catch sight of her. When he finally sees her he ends up having to fight off an attack while trying to keep their attention off of Penny. He did a good job too until he falls into the river.
The water is freezing, but Penny isn't about to leave him to die so she wades in to pull him out. He's heavy, and he's ugly. Her own words. With a lot of effort she manages to get him to her shelter where she can try to help him. She wakes the next day to him poking her, which is not exactly the best way to wake up. Kol thought that he could control himself around his mate, but he's finding it much harder than he anticipated. It's funny when they can't communicate (he can understand her, but she can't him) until he fixes a piece of his gear to work as a translator. He tells her that she's his and despite the way her body reacts to him, she strongly denies it. They soon come to the understanding that he will not do anything to her unless she asks...no matter how hard it is on him. Making it worse is that the blizzard has hit, forcing the two of them to stay in a small, cold place together with no escape. That is until a tree falls on the house and they have to move or risk being buried. And now all of a sudden at the new place, Penny realizes that she loves the big ugly alien. Really? So yeah. They have fun making their own heat until Penny is taken by the bad aliens and Kol has to save her. The end was kind of cheesy but at that point I wasn't expecting too much anyway.
I don't think I will be reading any more of this series.
This was my first novel by Nancy cummings and to be honest I have mixed feelings about it. For one the story is a slow mover as in nothing much happens for over half of the book. It's mainly about Penny's struggles for survival, Kols search for her, them finally meeting and how they interact together while they're snowed in. After that point was when the good stuff starts. We get a description of Kol in all his glory and I have to admit it weirded me out a little. I'm not normally adverse to strange looking aliens, on the contrary it's what appeals to me and draws me in. Blue/green/red skin not a problem, scales, claws, sharp teeth, extra digits, tail, horns you name it not a problem. But I draw the line at weird male junk it just creeps me out a little and Kols was as weird as they come. I'm not going to say exactly what it was as I don't like spoilers but what I will mention is that apart from it not being where it should be he had some insane shit going on under his mushroom head and the base of his junk. When I read it I was like 'hell no just no'! I like my leading males junk not terrifying or creepy in its description no matter how monstrously big his rod is. I actually have read this same type of male appendage before but not with the extra bits that Kol had and it also put me off a little towards their sex scene. Apart from that issue there was an intense moment with his tail which was quite unexpected, but then the first time they had sex it was quite straight to the point but none the less HOT! Penny's character though was quite smart, patient, witty and kind. It was refreshing having a story where the leading lady doesn't instantly fall for the brave alien. She actually found him ugly at first but then she got to know him and was able to get over their differences and see the good and kind person he was inside. There was a short action scene towards the end and a very sweet epilogue so overall it was an ok read.
Penny's city was hit hard by the Alien Suhlik Lizards🐲 weeks ago. Her aunt was in town when it happened, so she's probably dead or in hiding. Penny's on the other side of the river, trying to get across into town to look for her. She's been staying alive by hiding and scrounging for food and supplies. She needs to get across the bridge. The bridge has a big red alien humanoid👹🔫🔪 patrolling on it. Penny👩 can see him walking up and down from her vantage point. He is Kol👹🔫🔪, a Mahdfel Warrior. He knows Penny👩 is near, he can smell her, she is his fated mate!👰💘
That's the price earth is paying for having the Mahdfel Warriors👹🔫🔪 destroy and defeat the Suhlik killers🐲. The Mahdfel need women for mates and children, and 🌎Earth women are the best!
A blizzard is coming and Penny👩 has to get to the power dam on the river to recharge her electronics and her portable power pack. A Suhlik warrior🐲 sees her and so does Kol👹🔫🔪. The race is on!
Kol👹🔫🔪 is a big hardened red warrior, but he's a big softie at heart as far as Penney👩💋 is concerned. Penny👩💋, so afraid at first, comes to 💘Love him, because despite their physical differences and the language barrier, they are just two people falling in love💘 for the first and last time! YEHAW! Ride em Bareback🍆, Cowgirl!🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
Loved this book! This book took me back to more of the beginning of the Suhlik🐲 and Mahdfel👹 War on 🌎Earth. It seemed more of prequel to the entire series because it takes place on war torn 🌎Earth before the actual human👩/ Mahdfel👹🔫🔪 matings began to become common.
I wanted to like this book; I really did. However, there was an amateur way the writer creates the lead female character. The lead female was all over the place with who she was, how she felt, what she wanted that it was hard to relate at all to her. The lead female kept having outbursts of anger, then crying, then was back to trying to survive.
I do understand what the writer was trying to portray, but this draft seems as if it was the first draft and not a finished product. I wonder how many times she actually went back over it, cause it reads as if she wanted the night before to write a story for a school assignment she did not expect to get an A on. The writer desperately needed an editor to go back and make her rewrite scenes that gave the reader whiplash.
The love scenes are clumsy too. it is often awkward when they are engaged in and then unrealistic. The writer has the female lead confess her love right after the first time the couple had intercourse. (eye roll)
What I can say is good about this book is the creative parts of it. We are seeing the beginning of world-building that has the possibility of many spin-off books. This is a certain type of genre, so we expect certain plot points and a happy ending, but this does not mean we do not want meaningful stories and characters who have depth and a logical emotional span. We want the adventure in our story, and an arch we can follow that allows us to need these two to end up together. We could have had this too, if the writer simple wrote better.
Snowed in with the Alien Warlord" by Nancey Cumming was my first book from this author, and it was an enjoyable read. The story had a sweet and captivating premise that kept me engaged throughout. I loved the unique blend of romance and sci-fi, which added an exciting twist to the usual romance trope.
However, I felt the book was a bit too short. Just as I was getting deeply invested in the characters and their journey, it came to an end. I would have loved for the story to be longer, with more depth and development in both the plot and the characters.
As for the spicy scenes, they were moderate at best. I'd rate them a 2.5/5, as they lacked the intensity I was hoping for. Still, they were tastefully done and added a nice touch to the overall romance.
In conclusion, "Snowed in with the Alien Warlord" is a sweet, quick read that I enjoyed. If you're looking for a light and entertaining romance with a sci-fi twist, this book is worth checking out. I look forward to reading more from Nancey Cumming in the future!
"Snowed in with the Alien Warlord" is a bit different than the other alien romances I have read in that it takes place on Earth which has been invaded by the Suhlik a hostile alien race. Penny, the heroine of the story is a strong, smart woman who has survived months on her own. Kol is a member of another alien race, the Mahdfel, who have made an agreement to help Earth fight their mutual enemy in return for mates. Kol has been watching Penny from a distance, sure that she is his mate, and when he's injured protecting her, she rescues him. Their forced togetherness during a snow storm draws them closer and closer together until the idea of being his bride, which she once found unimaginable, now seems like the perfect end to their story, if they survive.
The writing is good, the characters likable, and the plot is interesting. There is some steam too. I think this is my first read by Nancey Cumming and I enjoyed it. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This was a cure story. If you like sweet, sensitive, protective Alpha but no asshole tendencies having aliens, Kol is your guy. The definition of a book boyfriend. In his case, an alien book boyfriend. He was great and all about winning Penny over, no matter how long it took. Speaking of, Penny was a kickass, smart and very resourceful young woman who was just trying to survive on an Earth overrun by aliens. She wasn't looking for a mate or protector but she found both of those things either way. Though this story was short, 188 pages, it took Penny time to truly accept Kol as her mate. She definitely wasn't feeling the being mated to an alien in the beginning but she came around eventually. I love the fact that Penny is a black woman. It made the story even better to me. There were some grammatical errors, mostly missing words but besides that this was a satisfying quick read. 4½ stars.
This was a good alien romance that I happily enjoyed. There was humor that had me cracking up (seriously Penny is funny), some sexy times, but the book wasn’t filled with it that the story got lost in the rubble. I wished their first time had a bit more detail and was a little longer, it felt it ended too quickly. I loved their adorable epilogue! I wished their had been more detail on how the war exactly ended, but given there are more books maybe they cover it better. It wasn’t really instalove on Penny’s part, but it was on Kol’s, but he never gave up to prove to Penny they were meant to be. I loved how Penny finally ‘claimed’ him and told those girls to shut up! Kol was one of my favorite red aliens I have come across, I wish I had my own Big Red! Looking forward for more 🤗
Wasn't sure what to expect, have just finished the 6 "Warriors of Sangrin" series, this is written after that, but subject is before, confused? I certainly was but! It's a very good book. It's set just after the Suhlik invaded the earth and when the Mahdfel came to try and rid earth of them. Both are there. Penny is alone, her aunt went to work, then the invasion came, the house was caught in the attack and all but destroyed, Penny is staying in the basement alone trying to survive. A storm is coming she needs more supplies, sees a red alien on the bridge so can't cross, it's not a Suhlik. Really enjoyed this, there is a 2nd so onward we go xx Sue P
Story was decent enough. I enjoyed it, but this book was full of errors that could have been corrected in editing. There were so many sentences that had missing or extra words, as well as missing and extra letters in words.
As far as the story goes, it was a cute story. The heroine was pretty awesome in her ability to survive for so long outside of the safe zone. My biggest complaint is that she was obsessed with staying in her aunt's destroyed house in the belief that her aunt would come looking for her. Not a terrible thought, but she was close enough to the safe zone that she could hear the raid sirens. Did she seriously never think that her family might be there or in another safe zone? I get it was necessary for the story, but still.....

I'm not a fan of alien romance but am soooo glad I decided to read this book! Ever since the lizard-like aliens invaded earth, Penny has been surviving on her own. Kol is on Earth as a warrior but he can smell his mate and is on the hunt for her. When he falls in a frozen lake, fighting a lizard alien to save Penny, Penny saves HIM. Penny can't belive that she's a mate to such a red, ugly alien but her body is saying something else. This was a book of survival and a very steamy read! I can't wait to read more alien romance from Nancy!
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.
Really enjoyed this story. It was to the point sometime funny with the language barrier and having two strong willed people use to having their own way.
Penny is a college student when all kind of trouble breaks loose and her world is overrun with an alien race known as the Suhlik. These creatures destroy and kill at will. Then the alien race that has defeated the Suhlik before comes to Earth’s rescue but is it a true rescue? Kol is part of the “good alien” crew sent to save earth. Can these two get along long enough to reach safety?
I have voluntarily read and reviewed this story without obligation to do so.
Earth is attacked by the Suhlik, then along come the Mandrel. The Mahdfel were once enslaved by the Suhlik, until they rebelled and over threw them. They now help protect other planets ftom their hated enemy and foe. Kol is one of the Mahdfel and has scented his mate, he longs for her each day and has left her supplies to help her out. Penny doesn't trust Mahdfel, she knows that the Mahdfel can't be doing this all for free. The question is what has the government promised them. A great read and looking for more from this series.
Every since Earth was invaded the inhabitants there have been running and hiding for heir lives. then a race of aliens comes and offers their help, but not without a price, human female brides. There warriors that are here helping, but definitely want something in return. Kol see Penny from a distance and instantly feels she is his mate. He has been watching here and leaving various supplies . He's not sure how to address this, then one day she is spotted by the enemy and he tries to save here and end up getting saved by Penny. This begins their friendship and relationship. This was a short quick fun read. The next one also seems interesting.
Cherry red-skinned, massive with tusks and a tail, alien allie, Kol, smells his mate on patrol and tracks her down only to be rescued by the brown-skinned and tight-curled locks, college student, Penny, a smart 'Macgyver survivor' of the alien invasion. They slowly get to know each other, and Penny finally accepts Kol as a good and worthwhile mate, while trying to survive a long snowstorm while in hiding. The romance and sex is sweet and loving, Kol is loving and sensitive to his mate, and Penny's wit and sass is funny. This is a HEA story, and I look forward to the next book.
A cute, sweet and spicy read. I liked the combination of apocalypse and survival meets alien lover. For a relatively short read, it was well developed and satisfying. The heroine was capable and funny and the hero easy-going, patient and also just as likeable.
I'm a sucker for stories with Black girls in love, and with their looks actually being acknowledged as well as admired. And I'm so happy to read more books that aren't about struggles and are firmly set in reality when it comes to BW, so this was a pleasant surprise of a read to come across.
