Kimberly Burk Cordova is originally from Denver, Colorado, but now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with her husband, Greg.
Kimberly has had an interesting life journey. She was a devoted single mother to her daughter, Channa, for most of her life. It wasn't until she was in her late forties that she married Greg and started a new chapter in her life. The couple now lives in Santa Fe and enjoys the little moments that make life even more colorful.
For Kimberly, family is everything. Her daughter, Channa, is married to Stephen, and they have given Kimberly two adorable grandchildren named Vera and Tillman. Kimberly loves spending time with them and calls them "grandsugars" affectionately.
Despite having a professional background in IT/Technology, Kimberly's true passions are beyond the digital world. She enjoys traveling and has visited many countries, which has broadened her horizons and enriched her understanding of diverse cultures and histories.
Kimberly has a wide range of interests. She finds peace and joy in crocheting, indulges her curiosity through trivia, and cherishes moments spent with family and friends. Her appreciation for live music and theatre shows her love for the arts, and she feels deeply connected to nature, which fuels her spirit.
This book is a pretty straightforward Self-Improvement read. It leans heavily on the “imagine this” kind of advice, which can get repetitive if you’ve been around the block with leadership or motivational books before. It ends up feeling a bit generic and basic.
In the end, it’s fine if you’re just starting out and need super simple tips, but if you’ve already got some experience, it might not give you anything new. Overall, it’s a 3-star read—decent but nothing to write home about.
Kimberly's writing effortlessly captures the essence of women's leadership, addressing the challenges faced by women in corporate environments with empathy, humor, and profound insights. The author's ability to convey complex leadership techniques through relatable analogies like soccer, gardening, and cooking is both witty and smart. The book stands out by not just telling readers what to do but by clearly articulating how to apply these techniques, making it a must-read for anyone looking to enhance their leadership skills.
I appreciate the book's structure, which is easy to follow and conveniently broken into digestible sections. Kimberly's writing style is not only informative but also personable, creating a sense of camaraderie with the reader. Despite the wealth of information, reading this book feels like spending time with a friend rather than a tedious task.
The book introduces essential concepts like emotional intelligence, diversity promotion, and the powerful notion of intersectionality. It emphasizes the crucial aspect of mental well-being and equips readers with tools for resilience. The real-world examples and actionable frameworks provide practical strategies to challenge stereotypes, break barriers, and lead authentically.
Turning Chaos into Gold: The Alchemy of Women’s Leadership by Kimberly Burk Cordova was a refreshing and inspiring listen for me. As someone who hasn’t read too many books on leadership, I found this to be a great entry point. I listened to this as an audiobook. The narrator brought the material to life, and I was easily drawn in.
I thought the books’ structure was great. It’s broken down into digestible sections, making it easy to follow, especially for those new to leadership literature. There is a quick summary at the end of each chapter. Kimberly’s writing style is both informative and personable, almost like she’s sitting down for a chat.
However, I do think the book stays more on the surface. It provides a broad overview rather than diving deeply into specific leadership strategies. For someone who’s already well-read on women in leadership, DEI, or making waves in the business world, it might not offer much in terms of new insights. But for beginners or those seeking a high-level overview, it’s a great starting point.
Turning Chaos Into Gold by Kimberly Burk Cordova is an incredibly inspiring and practical guide—especially for women stepping into leadership roles. From the very first chapter, I found myself highlighting so many powerful points that made me pause and think, “Wow!” It’s one of those books you’ll want to keep on hand to flip through whenever you need a dose of motivation or clarity.
What sets this book apart is how grounded it is in real-world experience. Cordova doesn’t just speak in theory—she provides actionable strategies and relatable examples that help turn everyday challenges into real opportunities for growth. Her focus on resilience, adaptability, and strategic thinking is both refreshing and empowering.
This book is truly a must-have for any woman navigating the complex path of leadership. I’ll definitely be reading it again.
The Kindle book was okay. Nothing new. I have a Kindle Unlimited membership so no big deal.
It is pretty high level, and lacking depth. I wish the author would have dived deeper into the topics vs so many brief sentences and overviews. Almost read like a power point presentation.
I have read hundreds of books on Kindle and post for Goodreads. Over my 21 years reading and listening to audiobooks and eBooks, I give this a basic 3. The author could have done more. Glad it was on my unlimited subscription!
