Kobi: Memoirs of a Mustang

Rate this book
Most wild mustangs only want three things in life: food, water, and blend in with the herd. Kobi is not your average mustang.

He is constantly in trouble for exploring canyons and running from coyotes. His parents think he’s going to get himself killed long before he’s old enough to start his own herd. He doesn’t listen to them or feel the need to prove anything to anyone. He is Kobi.

When his entire herd is rounded up and auctioned off, Kobi finds himself thrown into a new world of humans and horse trailers. Figuring out his new life is one thing, proving that a wild caught mustang is as talented as a purebred horse is another.

KOBI: MEMOIRS OF A MUSTANG gets inside the head of Kobi, a feisty wild mustang, taking readers on an unforgettable journey as he escapes from coyotes in the wilds of Nevada, works with an inmate in the Kansas prison system, and takes an abused and misunderstood draft horse under his care.

Fighting against barriers of human prejudice and his own equine stubbornness, Kobi proves once and for all what real mustangs are made of.

The Prologue says, "But don't worry; everything works out just fine."

No point in reading any further.

Look, horse book writers, write your own book and STOP trying to re-write Black Beauty, for Chrissake.

I don't often write reviews but since I got Kobi from the first reads program I feel like I should give my opinion on this one. A word of warning though is that I rate books on a sliding scale so when I rate them the book can usually move up depending on my mood at that moment. Kobi reminded me of the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. I gave the book 3 stars mostly because I felt like I was too old for the book but I still enjoyed it I just didn't love it the same way I loved the horse novels I read as a child. Although, I liked the book even more when I found out it was based on a real horse. I think Kobi a perfect book for horse lovers and the intended age level and if I was younger I probably would have given the book 4 or 5 stars.

My only complaint is I feel like Kobi wouldn't call his home Nevada since that's what us humans call it and he was raised in the wild not among us.

Oh I got this book from the first reads program. We are all horse lovers, mustangs included. The book is about Kobi. a young mustang and his adventures. It is told by Kobi, in "me" form. The illustrations are very nice drawn. Its a lovely story, thanks to the author Heather Hamel, to give a copy away.
Also I hope and wish, that she will write many more books like that !

I loved this interesting and unique book written from a horse’s point of view. It describes a wild mustang's life from being on the ranges of Nevada to becoming a show horse. Kobi's story was emotional, educational, and entertaining all in one book. I would recommend this book horse lovers of all ages. Great book!

My mother won this for me and I loved it! It is such a heart warming true story of a mustang who went from wild and free to a lovable companion; through trials and hard times he learned to love his masters and those closest to him.
