Poor with little information

I wanted to learn clear strategies that can be used to reduce the desire to shop and with the book stating it was based on research this is what I thought it would provide. Instead it suggests group therapy and medication and suggests I may have had trauma as a child. Very poor book with little to implement.

Quick, helpful read

This book wasn’t a bad read. It went by quickly and has some useful tips and tricks as well as explanations for various things that can be useful. I like how she broke down the different reasons for spending money and shopping instead of just saying “you’re a shopping addict, here’s what you need to do about it.” It actually explains the different triggers and the basics for how they work so you can figure out which one matches you the most.

It doesn’t go into a ton of detail for triggers but it just give you a baseline in general if you are looking for more reading material. You’ll have a better idea of what to look for in another book after reading this and hopefully it will shed some light on your concerns.

Not relevant for me

The book advises shopping addicts to avoid shopping online and to get rid of credit cards. But I’m retired and disabled, so online with credit cards is the only way I can shop. But what I found out from reading this is that I’m not a shopaholic, because I buy things I actually need - well, mostly. I do need to ask myself that question more often.

At least it was short

This is equal to looking up “shopping addiction” on line and reading an article. No ground breaking items here. Don’t buy what you don’t need. Um, thanks. If you have Kindle Unlimited or can borrow for free from a library then maybe. But don’t spend your money on this book - you don’t need it!

Good quick read

Ive been really struggling with impulsive spending for years. I’ve recently realized I have a serious problem. I thought this was a wonderful introduction to underlying causes of shopping addiction. It’s a quick read to start to build self awareness around a serious issue that I have. Thank you to the author for sharing their story and what helped them.

This was a good jumping off point to understanding this specific type of addiction, and the coping mechanisms for it. This guide is meant for note taking and to spark the curiosity of taking control on spending. Whether a behavior is extreme or not, there’s no shame in looking for ways to better your way of life!

A good primer to better understand and recognize it, but it’s so brief that unless you’re very devoted it isn’t likely to significantly change your habits. It works as a good introduction to the subject

Short but handy

The essential basics everyone must read. Even if you don't have a shopping addiction, it's good to be aware of such thing, so you could help your friends and loved ones.

I’m sorry, this “book” was terrible. I felt like it was written by a 5th Grader. It ends with the author writing “I worked really hard on this book and I hope you liked it.” I wouldn’t have even finished but I needed this book for my library challenge.

Purchased this to try and learn better strategies to cope with spending. There is better information online free of charge. If I knew how flimsy the information was, I would have saved the £2.17. Disappointed.

A primer to oniomania that can easily be read in one sitting. I like how it lists the common types of shopping addictions, and they certainly ring true from my experience working in retail.

Left me wanting more

This book has some good points but when it ended I felt more advice was due. It tells a little of the reasons behind addiction, but stops short.

A Nice Tool

This is a small and uncomplicated read but contains succinct advice that makes good and rational sense. I liked it.

Average

Good basic information but only the basic help in changing behavior. I'd like more exercises and advice about compulsive shopping.

Excellent advice

This book is well written and gives plenty of advice. It has top tips on why we over spend and has steps to avoid overspending in a very practical way. There is no hard to read jargon or useless data that we don’t understand it’s just an honest account of how normal everyday people can get out of debt and start spending less.

Not only does this book talk about the newly recognised addiction - a definite symptom of today's commercialised world! - but it gives a lot of very interesting background information too, and a rather frightening section on the symptoms that indicate it may be taking hold. I'm fairly certain I'm not in danger of acquiring this one myself but it was a salutary lesson in how easy it might be to get addicted (given the money to go for it ...). Definitely worth a read!

Great information.

Ways to control compulsive shopping behaviors. Gives other options when you want to shop like meditating or going for a walk.
