Crescent Bay Chronicles #1

When Will I See You Again

Rate this book

Raoul Marchand is the crown prince of Charisma, the infamous night club in Crescent Bay, renowned for its supernatural clientele. He has the pick of any and all men, but he cares for none. He uses them and throws them away again, and has done so for some twenty years, in the aftermath of a tragedy that robbed him of what he loved most in the world.

Alexx Jameson is an idealistic would-be reporter with the Crescent Bay Chronicle. Presented with an opportunity to write a story on the Marchands, he eagerly grasps the chance to be a real reporter. His friend, Chronicle receptionist Miller Fenwick, suggests they go to Charisma to do a little research. Alexx isn’t sure that’s such a great idea. After all, he’s still under age, being only twenty. No problem, Miller can fix that! Added bonus, there’s a full moon tonight.

When Alexx first encounters Raoul, it isn’t exactly in the way he dreamed of, and he’s sure he made a terrible first impression. But Fate throws them together under unforeseen circumstances, and the attraction between them can’t be denied.

Can Raoul let go of the past long enough to find his future with Alexx, or is he doomed to repeat past mistakes?

When Will I See You Again is a title that speaks of loss; couple it with the image of a lone wolf curled up on a sandy shore, and it speaks of loneliness. It sets the mind to wonder on the hows, the whys.

The book opens with wolf shifter Raoul and his beloved Jamie secreting to their special place, happily loving each other, dreaming of a future. As the tides shift, we read of Raoul's loss and the heartbroken lone wolf emerges.

Twenty years later, we see Alexx, a young man whose dream is to be an investigative journalist but is currently working in the mail room. An opportunity lands in his hands and he knows if he does not take it, risk all, he would never see his dream to fruition. Accompanied by an older friend and a fake ID, he enters Charisma, the famous supernatural night club run by Raoul.

When the two meet, there is an immediate connection; an attraction that is palpable but cannot be acted upon. Unexpected events turn the tables against the two star crossed lovers and now Raoul finds himself under Alexx's control and protection.

As the two would be lovers race against time to find discover who set Raoul up for murder, they find it hard to resist their attraction. Raoul's past continues to haunt him but he cannot hold back his feelings for Alexx who is more than what he is.

The story of love lost and found has been the subject of many a writers' works. Julie Lynn Hayes successfully captured the heart of this plot through her story of romance between a man, a shifter and a hope for a second chance.

What really caught my attention was her integration of the canine personality in the case of Raoul who would be all man then would shift to an alpha male who'd experienced the loss of a beloved. He would, at times, be hesitant and fearful and then be turn protective, strong and decisive. He bowed to the wishes of the man he loves, showing his strength as a partner and as a lover. He was never ashamed to show any weakness to his Alexx, showing his determination to be that partner he deserved. Faithful. Loyal. Loving unconditionally.

A murder mystery based on unrequited love gone sour, this is a beautiful love story that can wring the emotions out of its readers and then make them smile at the discovery of a new (old) love.

Beautifully written. Very romantic. Very hard to put down.

REVIEW COMING SOON @Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words

When Will I See You Again by Julie Lynn Hayes is one of what I call “feel good” books, the kind of book, when I finish reading, I feel so satisfied. This book has everything I like to read, lovely characters, hot steamy sex, good plot and great HEA, plus a welcome (to me) amount of sugar. It hit one of my softer spot, the sweetness. That’s exactly why I enjoy Julie Lynn Hayes’s work so far so much. She can write stories that stay in my mind and my heart for so long. The one between the innocent, mouthy Alexx and rough Raul is unforgettable and the attraction is strong and compelling. There’s a little supernatural aspect that bring our heroes together that make this book almost a second chance at love story and it just add a special touch to their love.

I read this book a couple of times and every time I like it more, every time it was hard to put down. I can say it’s my favorite by the author.

It’s not just a simple paranormal story between a wolf shifter and a human. Of course it’s romantic, sexy and real in the unrealistic world it is set in, real in the romantic love between MCs and the power of friendships. Moreover there’s a mystery to solve that will affect their lives greatly.

So if you enjoy a book with a well developed plot as well as a good romantic story with some paranormal throw in it, When Will I See You Again is exactly what you are looking for. It’s well written and there is a sequel I begged for, called When Will I Be Loved, beautiful too.

Cover art by Trace Edward Zaber I love this cover, the solitude I can feel coming from the lonely wolf will be rewarded at the end.

Four and a half stars!
Such a good book. I really enjoyed watching Alexx and Raoul fall for each other rather quickly. They were thrust into a crazy situation that kept them together non stop. But Alexx brought Raoul out of his shell. The way Alexx calmed Raoul when he got upset or angry; it was beautiful to watch. The ended happily enough at the end. Though they do have a few things to still work out. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. See more of these two and see Miller get the happy ending (hopefully!!!) he deserves.

There was nice relationship development, the insta-love and the theory about reincarnation was very nice. I'm a huge believer in that type of stuff. I liked that the author showed readers Raoul and Jamie's relationship to give an idea of how it was.

I don't even understand the need for werewolves. It could have been any setting.

Did not enjoy the story much- Look up updates for my review.

When Raoul Marchan’s lover died in a tragic accident at sea, Raoul lost his belief in happiness. Twenty years later, he still feels guilty for the accident, and refuses to let anybody near. He enjoys life and uses men freely, not giving any chance of attachment… until Alexx Jameson. Alexx is sweet and cute, and Raoul feels he’s found something he thought lost forever. But danger lurks near, and Raoul may lose the main he loves again…
Well-written, but maybe a bit over sweetened for my own taste, the story introduces us to a world were paranormal beings like shifters and vamps are out and admired by most of the population. Raoul is a were-wolf who lost his lover and believes he’ll never love again till he meets Alexx. The attraction is immediate, an absolute insta-love, and Alexx preternatural knowledge of Raoul’s habits seems to hint that he maybe his dead lover reincarnated. There is a bit of mystery with an assassin on the loose, and a bit of anguish when the two lovers threaten to split apart… And, of course, a HEA.
In short, an incredibly attractive, very growly alpha man who turns into putty when it comes to his lover, the cutest but very stubborn twink, a bit of mystery and a lot of romance… nice but a bit mushy… I’m not much into the touchy-feely kind of relationship. But that’s only a personal opinion. If you like it sweet, then this is your book!

It took me a while to get into this story. I found the beginning confusing and I felt like too many characters were thrown at me too quickly for me to absorb.

Once I found my bearings, I really enjoyed this tale of werewolves, murder and romance. Alexx is a great lead - I loved how the plucky, wannabe journalist rises to the occasion when he finds himself involved in a murder investigation. The older, jaded and guarded Raoul is the perfect match for Alexx’s naive innocence and the two are a fantastic pairing.

I think a little more world-building needed to happen in this story. I’m still not very clear about Raoul’s family or the nature of the werewolves in Crescent Bay. But I enjoyed the book and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
