Jason Deas has taught art in elementary schools for over a decade. He likes his job three and a half days a week. He is a songwriter, sculptor, and makes a mean pot of chili. Most of his writing used to take place at Georgia campgrounds, inside a three-man tent or sitting at an uncomfortable concrete picnic table. He wouldn’t have had it any other way until he one day found a 70’s-model camper where he now writes in luxury. Jason has published flash fiction and poems. After writing Birdsongs, a mystery for adults, his nieces asked him to write a book for kids and he granted their wish and wrote Camp Timber View. He had so much fun writing it he is currently putting the finishing touches on another middle grade novel titled The Big Stinky City. He is also working on the sequel to Birdsongs titled, Baptized by Jim.

A drunken ex-cop helps solve crime in a new town

I liked this complicated story, with several complicated and goofy characters. It ended well and left me wondering about the future of Cameron Caldwell and the small town

New surprises with every page

Wow! What an interesting story. The author has a great imagination. I never would have guessed all that would happen. It kept me reading late at night when I should have been sleeping.

Cameron Caldwell left his job in the police force of a small town in disgrace allegedly, because of his drinking and assault of a police officer, but the real reason behind his departure is his secret sight and corruption. Newly arrived in Miner's Bluff, he sets up his own private detective agency and meets the locals. However, the murder of Mayor and self-proclaimed richest man in town, Billy Prescott, draws Cam into an investigation where his new friends are the prime suspects. Can he find the killer and save himself from his old boss who is gunning for him?

This was a short, easy to read crime thriller which hits the road running, there's no lengthy preamble as you are launched into the unusual world of Cam Caldwell. Initially his predilection for alcohol has you labelling him as a big booze hound, but you soon discover he drinks to dull the special sight he possesses. The characters in this book are eccentric and larger than life, which is no mean fear for a relatively short read with so much going on.

Small town politics and gossip aside I enjoyed the unravelling of this mystery thriller, the conclusion to which I did not see coming. The eccentric artist Claude and his sister Daphne along with a turner and Hank make up an unlikely tram of support for our usually inebriated hero. The book is gory in parts but not enough to challenge those who are sensitive to blood and guts and although I found it engaging I wasn't at the edge of my seat whilst reading this one. Apart from the odd forgive able typo, this book was a pleasure to read and the characters are very worthy of a revisit in future. I hope to read more about Cam and his choices in future books.

A very intriguing mystery

I am not so sure this is a true mystery. Most of the mysteries in this book are solved or at least alluded to before it's over. But this is a fantastic story about money, power and greed. There is romance, power struggles and hillbilly humor. Add in a moonshine operation an alcoholic disgraced detective turned private investigator and you have yourself a do not miss novel. Jason Deas creates a finely woven tale filled with incredible characters and interesting scenes. There is something mystical about our drunken private investigator and the ability to see the evil in a person's eyes. Definitely a page turner.

Read this puppy in 2 days. Very easy to read, excellent characters (a usual for Mr. Deas), and it always kept me guessing. If you want a quick, fun, and enjoyable mystery then Private Eye is the book for you.

Private Eye

Interesting book for a mystery. I liked the southern atmosphere. The back woods of Georgia, moonshine and the people. Enjoyed reading this book very much.
