The Whisperers #1

Staking a Claim

Rate this book
Jed Nash had a few simple rules in life. (1.) Family always comes first, (2.) Know when to keep it in your pants, (3.) Don’t mix business and pleasure, and (4.) Don’t believe in love. All it brings is misery and heartache.

He had no trouble following his own rules. At least not until the new trainer on his ranch shows up. He was expecting a man. What he got was a woman who had him battling attraction that was hot and wild. Sure as sunshine, if she stayed he wouldn’t be able to keep his hands off her.

Mik isn’t looking for anything but a place to stay and a paycheck. She sure isn’t expecting to wind up on a ranch run by true Whisperers. Or a man who God had to have created solely as temptation.

They’re both set on ignoring the attraction. It can only lead to trouble.
If only that were the only trouble they had to face. Evil is gathering around them, evil that cursed the Nash family two hundred years ago and fully intends to see every Nash man wiped from the face of the earth. And heaven help anyone who tries to stand in its way.
Some say love conquers all. Does that hold true for Whisperers who have been cursed to fail at love? They’re about to find out.

From the very first page, I was hooked. The characters, while combative, are drawn inexorably to each other. It's like that old saying, "Behind every strong man is a strong woman." Highly recommend!

My first read of Ciana Stone's work and I can honestly say that I am hooked! I had no clue what i was getting into with this story. I never read the blurb or reviews. I don't go blindly into a book very often. I went with my gut instincts and was not disappointed. The writing of this story takes you back into the past from time to time while keeping your feet planted firmly in the now. 3 cowboys, 3 sisters, a ranch, some evil doers, a curse along with an mad ghost make up quite the mystery intertwining the characters with each other. Love a woman can only dream of having and some hot sex to boot. I couldn't put this book down once I started it and now I am anxiously awaiting book 2 in this series. Aside from a few grammical errors (which can be overlooked), I found this story to hold your attention from the first page to the last. Loved it!!

Exciting, suspenseful, multi-pronged conspiracy/suspense story with the added bonus of paranormal. Be advised this is the first book and it doesn’t resolve the story so be committed to read all three books.

The author makes good use of perspective jumps between the main characters and the bad guys. Just enough details on the backstory are parceled out to keep the reader guessing and invested but not make things too easy. Jed and Mik are likable main characters though a little more depth would be nice in the character development...at the end of the book I felt like we were still just skimming the surface where they are concerned.

Additionally, better proofreading/editing is necessary as the errors take your head out of the story and that’s a big sin for me.

I’ll be moving right on to book two.

I loved the book. Mik is a great character. I like how she was adopted but she loved the sisters her parents had after they adopted her as if they were actually blood. Her parents were great in raising the girls that way. Mik sold the ranch they inherited from their parents in order for her sisters dreams to come true and kept nothing for herself. She gets a job on a ranch where the men have been cursed for generations but don't know why. Mik realizes that the oldest, Jed, is a horse whisperer like herself. They fight their attraction until they no longer can. Weird things start to happen that they don't know what is behind it.

I really enjoyed this Western Romance! It has romance, and the western ranch lifestyle, but it also has some mystery and some paranormal elements as well. The Nash family has had its share of trouble and bad luck and with the entrance of Mik and her sisters, they might just be able to figure it all out. This was the first in a series and things didn't exactly get resolved in book one, so you'll want to have the next books in the series ready to find out what will happen for these families. I eagerly jumped into book two and have a feeling that I will enjoy it just as much as the first.

Staking this claim is an adventure full of humor and their chemistry is electrifying. Love the paranormal elements and the family support system. Jek and Mik are both very strong and independent characters so they bump heads constantly. Very entertaining read with a family history and magical mysteries to solve.

Oh. My. God. I want to be Ciana when I grow up. Really!

Such a well written, sensual, intriguing, sexy, mysterious, sizzling hot and . . . did I mention it was a freakin' fantastic book?

First of all I loved that is it about both of the families and while the story line is going to continue over a few books, the MC's story has a really good wrap up. I also hope the beginning of the book is going to be as heart wrenching for you as it was for me. Ciana is brilliant at conveying the pathos of the woman's situation. She is also brilliant at writing such compelling characters that you can't put the book down because you have to see what is going to happen to them next!

As for the mystery of the story? Ciana could wring suspense out of the phone book by re-writing it just a bit, I'm sure. How she manages to keep building the tension I have no idea, but she definitely does and by the end of the book I was ready to climb into my kindle to find out what the heck was going to happen next. I can't wait to start the next book!

I'm so very happy to have discovered a new-to-me author. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes sexy cowboys and strong heroines with a strong dash of the paranormal and a great mystery with perhaps a ghost thrown in for good measure. *happy, happy sighs*

I received an arc for an honest review~

I didn't know what to expect with this book as I've never read one of Ciana's books before and there wasn't a lot on goodreads or amazon about it.
Seriously I was pretty hooked right away. It was really well written, the characters are wonderful. Jed is a super hot, responsibility laden cowboy and Mik is a breath of fresh air, giving up her dreams of her own ranch so that her sisters can have their dreams first.
As the story progresses, so does Jed and Mik's relationship as well as the drama surrounding the Nash family.
All of a sudden you're hit with the paranormal aspect in this story. I am not overall a fan of paranormal... however this is interesting, it's not vampires and werewolves and shapeshifters. It's mind over matter, aura and control over chaos...it's the freakin horse whisperer!
There was some totally hot sexy going on and a wonderful storyline...
I can't wait to continue this story in books 2, so please, Ciana, hurry up and finish!

First book I've ever read by a new author for me, but won't be my last! Awesome contemporary romantic suspense with paranormal elements that keeps you on the edge of your seat, wanting more & the pages turning :) Well defined characters with a unique cowboy & horses story-line, tight-knit families and drama that has an entertaining paranormal twist! I cannot wait for book 2 & highly recommend this to all fiction lovers!

Sexy Cowboys, curse, mystery, and romance all rolled into one.

Ciana was a new author to me and I didn't know what to expect--I ended up not putting it down until the end of the story and wanted to go right into books two. I generally don't go for the paranormal story lines but these aren't overly heavy--mostly just background.

Two families connected by a curse Mild cliffhanger--these characters find love but the story & curse continue into the next book.

Slightly disappointed

This love story is cute but, it didn't hold my interest long. It was kind of dull without much excitement. Sorry but I didn't care for this.

Wowza!!

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review, so here it goes...

The Nash brothers, there are three, have been known to be popular with the opposite sex. With their good looks and charm, there isn't a woman out there that wouldn't fall all over themselves for them. Jed, the oldest, is no exception, but he's sworn off love and happily ever after. After his youngest brother hires a new trainer for the ranch they own, he's starting to rethink things. Mikayla Morgan, known as Mik, sold the family farm and took on a job as a trainer at a ranch to give her younger sisters a chance of making their dreams come true, but she finds a whole lot more besides the horses she loves and trains. Someone is out to ruin the lives of the Nash family and Mik as well. Can they find out who and stop the wheels that were set into motion, or will they all fall?

This book is well written, filled with characters that you will love, and a few that you'll hate. Ms. Stone has a way of pulling you into the story, so much so, that you feel the emotions that the characters feel. I cannot wait to read the second book in this series to find out how the story continues.
