Captain Boone Wilder leads a cadre of powerful and notorious pirates that rule the West Indies. He’s survived the cutthroat’s life, bearing the scars to prove it. Fearless, he seeks only the freedom of the seas and an enemy he’s hunted with a vengeance for years. When Boone waylays a fat merchant vessel bound for Port Royal, he discovers more than he bargained for in the luscious bounty of Miss Sabine Tanner. But Miss Tanner hides more than tempting curves in her skirts. When Boone finds her sneaking about the Port Royal taverns, meeting with dubious captains, he’s determined to learn what devious game she’s playing.

The daughter of a condemned pirate captain, Sabine Tanner took to the seas to clear her father’s name and locate his legendary treasure. When her ship bound for Port Royal is boarded, she’s captured by the sun-bronzed, muscular Captain Wilder. While the man is dangerously attractive, she knows from experience that Wilder is nothing but a scabrous bilge rat. Circumstances force her to sail with the scoundrel to find her father’s ship, lost on the phantom Devil’s Island. Driven by opposing agendas, will they survive the hidden truths, or does their greatest threat lie with each other?

Mimi Sebastian raised herself on books and the strange and unusual, and an unhealthy dose of comics and movies. When a career as a punk guitarist failed to materialize, she completed her degree in urban planning, spent two years in the Ivory Coast with the Peace Corps, and another three years in Brazil. By day, she debates the merits of transport oriented development, by night she writes about necromancers and pirates. She’s convinced she could live off coffee, ice cream, and comic books, but is sure only one of those is good for her health.

Mimi's a member of Romance Writers of America and the Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal chapter of RWA. A transplant from the beaches of Florida, Mimi now wanders the desert in Phoenix, AZ, and attempts to balance writing with a day career, fantastic family, and household diva: her Amazon parrot.

Review: 4.5 stars
General: This book just a great job of mixing the sexy with the adventure. Some of my favorite novels are the pirate romance because they're so fun and still feel like an adventure more than the other historical era ones and Devil's Island didn't disappoint. The world building was strong, the research apparent and I loved that. Nothing is worse than picking up a historical where it's only been half thought out.

The plot was strong from the action packed sea fights to the romance and steam it was well written, well paced and easy to enjoy. My only small issue was there were some moments that were a little cheesy but I know that is common in historical romances in my eyes.

Characters: Sabine- Sabine is a fun character for her time period. She was raised essentially as one of the boys and it made her extremely useful in context of the plot in this book. She was independent without being brazen as well as intelligent without having had the proper training while living aboard a ship as a child.

Boone- Boone is sure one sexy pirate! I love the combination of Scottish and pirate right off the bat. He's a bad boy, he does things his own way and doesn't care who it pisses off. The chemistry he brought to the relationship was definitely the stronger of the two.

Exotically evocative and sultry - - this scintillating story is smouldering!

With the relentless, thrilling action of Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” merged together with steamy romance reminiscent of J R Ward or ‘Outlander’ {Diana Gabaldon}, you will find that you can’t tear away from the pages! The heated rivalry between characters and intense passion is so dynamic, as too is the non-stop action and seafaring conflicts. Plunging headlong into an epic setting that captures the piquant spices of the Caribbean and vast, changeable Ocean waves wherein lie magnificent Ships with their sales caught high in the breeze. The band of notorious Pirates that rule over the West Indies are fearless, reckless and certainly not to be underestimated; especially with Captain Boone as their scared leader! The seductive beauty of Sabine Tanner cleverly conceals her sinister, dark hidden agendas as she lures the Captain into her trap…

Full of mystery and drama this exciting, engrossing tale doesn’t let go from the first page. I was transported from the grandeur of Port Royal to the loud, dingy taverns filled with fighting drunks and then across the Sea to phantom Devil’s Island. All the while I felt assured by the authentic, colourful backdrops and realism of the story as a whole. One could categorize this story as a mix between romantic fiction and action/ adventure. All the elements of what you expect to find within a Pirate story are included, that’s written specifically for a more adult audience due to the heady scenes between charismatic Sabine and sun-bronzed, muscular hunk Wilder.

Will she yield to her desires and the scoundrel whose captured her heart? Or will Sabine’s driven focus to find her father’s Ship lead her over turbulent waters?

I can’t get enough of pirate stories, from Johnny Depp as the more comic-relief style pirate to the new series Black Sails there is little to not like. Adventure, action, sexy bad boys and the freedom of sailing on the ocean. Sure, it wasn’t all glamor or fun, but the potential for plot twists and surprises is unending.

Mimi Sebastian manages to combine all of the intrigue of a good pirating story and still brings us a luscious romance that has two beautifully developed characters at its heart. With attention paid to historic elements that bring the feel of the time to the story, and the never-ending back and forth between the characters as they find and deal with their own attractions adds a human and realistic touch.

Sabine is clever, determined and so unlike the women of her day she was a breath of fresh air. While there were female captains of privateering ships, they often lost their ability or desire to live a more normal life. Sabine’s father, a notorious pirate, had made sure to see she had the ability to blend in society, as well as captain a ship. And, his life may depend on her proficiency at both.

Boone Wilder is an up and coming pirate, scrapping and scraping to make a name for himself. The adage honor among thieves is not in his lexicon, and his reputation for honest dealing, even among his own kind is not a good one.

When the two join forces, despite the great distrust between them, their physical attraction is palpable, even though they both will fight to deny their deeper feelings. From one high point to another the story speeds along to give lovers of adventure and romance a fun read that will entertain as each page turns.

I received an eBook copy of the title for purpose of honest review with Tasty Book Tour. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

My rating:4 out of 5

A lady pirate, what more do you need? I really enjoyed this book. It had romance, adventure, hot pirate, and treachery and of course treasure.

The story read well and had perfect balance of adventure and love story. The characters were really well done and I found that I did cry at a few of them.
