I picked this up because it was free and I was curious. Now I want the 30 minutes back that I spent reading this. I tried. I really did. But this book is written so poorly that I had to stop at about 20% into it. I have read better writing from sixth graders (seriously! I'm not exaggerating). The verb tenses alternate seemingly at random between present and past tense. Commas are omitted from dialogue tags and direct address in dialogue. Dialogue tags, such as they are, are incorrectly punctuated and capitalized. In one paragraph, there is "were" instead of "we're" and "distance" instead of "distant". The prologue is misnamed an epilogue. Etc. Etc.
On top of the massive grammar problems, the dialogue was often stilted, contained "as you know, Bob" passages, and lacked the normal contractions that people use when speaking. It very rarely sounded natural. The narrative was similarly clunky.
I also don't find several of the plot points very plausible:
(1) that a fifteen year old girl manages to conceal her pregnancy from her family while living with them
(2) that a hospital would discharge a fifteen year old immediately after giving birth and take her baby and put it up for adoption. No signing paper work? No talking to a social worker? No talking to her parents? Would she even be in any condition to *be* released right after giving birth? (Nope).
(3) that a fifteen year old girl could run off to a college that her parents didn't know about and then disappear. Her parents didn't take her to college and get her situated? Apparently not. Who just sticks a fifteen year old on a bus to college (or however else she got these without her parents)? Further, unless she had a full ride scholarship, her parents had to fill out financial aid forms for her. She's too young to work, so how did she support herself outside of the scholarship money? Sorry, there are just too many things that don't ring true here.
So overall, a very poor attempt at fiction writing. I would suggest that this writer hire an editor before she publishes anything else, as this is just awful.
Edited to add: I just looked at the book description on Amazon and it says that she is married to a "Seargant" (yes, that IS misspelled), but in the book, he is described as a "Major". So which is it? *sigh*
When I say sister, you say b****, sister b**** smh....what a whirlwind. Leona made some decisions that took her away from the ppl she loved but turned around and had a bigger heart and made up for it. Was that satisfactory enough for what should have been the two close ppl in her life I guess not. Major was a jackass for being so selfish and Joanne is an airhead. That's family for you, always jealous of something that is never there's. I need to know what happens next author Sonovia, please hurry! Thx :-)
Leona fell in love and married the man of her dreams. Leona thinks that her life is perfect. Both Leona and her husband has secrets of their own. Will their secrets turn their lives upside down? This story had twist and turns from the very beginning to the end of the story I didn’t expect the ending, good job to the author.
Leona had a baby at 15 and no one knew? 17yrs later after disappearing from her family, a successful attorney and married to her husband Major life is good. When her sister appears back in her life with her parents and son Eric some changes are going to comeback! Major is very selfish and hateful! He is not happy for his wife finding her son and family. Another side of him is out, Joann Leonas sister is a part of it, I just hope Eric is who he says he is and will be there for his mother because she will need him!!!!
This book was a bit confusing at times for me. It was crazy because one minute Leona's life is going great then everything is turned upside down once reuniting with her family. Everything was suspect from that point on. Major had some nerve. I couldn't understand why he felt the way he did about Eric when he was doing his own thing anyways. Leona had me mad because she was acting so naive like nothing in her life would go wrong and her family wouldn't hurt her. It's good Jonah and Leona are doing what is necessary to start building a relationship with Eric. Really Joanne?! That chick is something else. And if Major is so unhappy why is he being so possessive now. Hopefully part 2 is written better and understandable. My only questions are is there another reason Major feels the way he does, will someone help Leona in time, has Joanne gotten herself in something only to lose to her sister again, can Jonah and Leona start fresh, and does Eric have any ulterior motives behind wanting to know Leona?
There are for sure some sick individuals out there, not to mention abusive men, but the end of this story was above and beyond anything I expected. WOW!! Major was obviously acting out of character throughout the entire story and stepped into his own in the final analysis. Plot twist is a total understatement in the case of the sister. She truly DID hate her sister from childhood on and that was real even though her sister didn't really want to believe it was anything more than sibling jealousy in their younger years. Obviously, it was well over the top when she chose something as devious as sleeping with and getting pregnant by her sister's husband and be a part of him killing her in cold blood. That was evil and gruesome.
I chose this rating because the storyline of the book was good, but as far as the descriptive details, grammar, word usage, and other skills that are important to a novel were all less than mediocre. I'm not sure if this book was a rough draft or the final copy, but there are many many errors that should have been corrected during editing. I'm trying to give my opinion of this novel without bashing it too much. Also the author does not use good detail to describe the characters. For example we don't know if they are tall, short, fat, skinny, Black, White, Blue, or green. I pretty much had to use my own imagination. I will not be purchasing the other parts to this novel.
This story had twist and turns from the very beginning to the end of the story … Leona has a strong character that I respected for all the hard decision she had to make in her lifetime, and taking a bad situation and turning it into a good situation in the end. Major was a butt head that has some mood swings out of this world and try to use fear to control Leona… Joanne is a character that everyone will despise with her low down dirty self, and she call herself some sister…. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat and have your mouth wide open at the end. It is a must read …..
first off this was a short quick read but it was good and kept my attention. I'm shocked that the sister went through all this shell just to get a man. and poor Eric I can only shutter to think where his head will be when all of this hit the fan. I only gave it a 4 because I felt that it was rushed and maybe a little background on the family should have been given and it flipped from her being 15 to grown
This book really worked my nerves trying to read it. I finally finished it after a week of forcing myself to finish it. This book needs some serious professional editing work. Way too much dialogue for my taste and I had a hard time connecting with the characters. The end was obviously rushed to get to the second book. I'm glad this was a free download.
The story had an excellent storyline in the beginning. But started getting weird at the end. This is definitely not what I expected. The good: Leona leaves for college and does not contact her family for 17 years. They have the son that she gave up for adoption and her husband gets angry. The weird: The last chapters, everything falls apart and to think, there are 4 parts to it. I'm not going to go any further
This part was something crazy for a man to be so selfish and not want to share his wife is sad. She had a son way before major was in the picture and should be able to be in his life without someone trying to get in the way of that. Her sis joanna is very messy and seems like she can't find her own business but always wants to cause issues for her sister. I hope they both get what is coming to them and that Leona will be okay.
really enjoyed this book, I was so blown away with ending. Who would have thought it would end how it did and everyone was in on it. Family can make you cry! Wow really the sister is crazy and so is major the ending was shocking! Into part 2!
I don't like using the word hate... but I hate this ending it SUCKED IN A MAJOR WAY!!!! Won't make the mistake of reading another book by this author and I'll let everyone I know that your books SUCK!!!!
A woman's son welcomes his mother with open arms after she put him up for adoption 18 years ago. On day this "New Found Son" has a serious disease, the next day he doesn't. Hmmm!!
I was very disappointed in this book. There were too many spelling and grammar errors. That is very unfortunate because the summary of the book makes it sound interesting but the spelling errors and grammar mistakes made it kind of hard to get into.
The storyline of this book was very good however there are editing issues and the story jumps from day one to three months later the following paragraph
