Многие мамы и папы, выросшие на этой книге, долго пытались найти ее для собственных детей — по библиотекам, в букинистических лавках, у друзей и знакомых. Мы решили ее переиздать, ведь нам, как и родителям наших читателей, тоже приходится отвечать на бесконечные вопросы собственных детей о том, почему человек устроен так, а не этак. А более полного, достоверного, а главное — увлекательного! — ответа на вопрос об устройстве человеческого тела нам встречать не приходилось.

In a few short weeks, I will finally become a doctor. And for this I want to give a sincere word of thanks to The Magic Anatomy Book that planted the seeds of my love for medicine back when I was about seven.

This book made me so fascinated with the beautiful world of human anatomy, that I aced my anatomy section of high school biology without much need of a boring required textbook. That's what reading this book cover to cover at least eight times does! I kid you not - I had memorized the structure and functions of Golgi apparatus, intestinal brush border, blood-brain-barrier, and white blood cells before I was even old enough to write in cursive. And it was not tedious or boring thanks to a fascinating story and gorgeous illustrations.

The Magic Anatomy Book follows the adventures of twins Max and Molly (and their orange cat Baxter) as they stumble upon a strange book in their Grandmother's attic, and are suddenly transported into its pages - smack in the middle of a working human body (female, as they later find out - as a future gynecologist, I am ridiculously excited about ovaries!). Max and Molly quickly befriend a little lymph droplet Freewilly and start in a quest that takes them through the digestive, respiratory and cardiovascular system, through the blood-brain barrier, and basically into every nook and cranny of human body. They manage to anger a macrophage, hitch rides on red blood cells, and even - *gasp!* accidentally kill a cell.

This book does away with the misconceptions of so many people that anatomy is all about the number of bones in one's hand or muscles of the thigh, or the exact innervation of the spleen. Instead, it presents human body as an interconnected society of cells and fluids, organized and working in perfect harmony. Written and illustrated by Carol Donner, a medical illustrator, this book is a beautiful and interesting introduction to the inner workings of human body.

It is written to be easily accessible to rather young children - who obviously can easily understand scientific concepts if they are presented in such a fascinating way. However, it will be interesting for adults as well, especially those who do not have a good working grasp of the intricacies of human anatomy. And I firmly believe that it should be required reading for college anatomy courses. NOW THE TRICK IS TO MAKE SURE MY FUTURE (HYPOTHETICAL) KIDS READ THIS BOOK, TOO.

I found this book on one of our library's "For Sale" shelves and paid one dollar for it. I sure got my money's worth! Extensively illustrated, this book has all the details on how the human body works. My girls enjoyed it, the seven year old more than the four year old. Although, the four year did make up a song about her epiglottis to calm down the baby in the car today so something must have soaked in :)

I'm so surprised to find the book here ,I was child while reading it and i read the Persian edition of the book unfortunately without English name in it.
It's fantastic , incredible book and maybe one of my motivates to study medicine. I love it.

One of those book you SHOULD have around if there is a child in the house. Although my passion for natural sciences has always been directed towards maths and physics, this one I shall count as one of the most enchanting books of my first teenage years. It is a fun adventurous story with well developed characters (human as well as non-human), following the twins Max and Molly, with their grandmother's cat and a very important drop of water all around the human body. I dare say that a good part of my general knowledge on human anatomy and how the body works still comes from this book rather than biology lessons (not taking the lab hours into account), and since I read it around 6th or 7th grade, it even helped me a lot with biology.
It's a well written novel, and also educative, with a great deal of detailed coloured illustrations.

This is a book my mom picked up at a used library book sale--and it is quite amazing. My childhood brain logged it as a "fun" read, because of the fully integrated story. I'm reading about neurons in college Biology and I think back to this book and the children's trip to the brain. The illustrations are wonderful. The text can be a bit dense at times, but I read it numerous times anyway--again, for fun. It's like Magic School Bus, but better.

There are a few mentions of evolution, but not in any overwhelming way.

I remember loving this book as a kid- I have been on a mission for most of my adult life to find a copy of it (it is out of print).

**UPDATE 12/6/16: I found this book on HPB.com for $3. It's a former library book so the cover is a little worn and torn but the rest of the book is in good condition. Can't wait to read it again!**

Прекрасная книга про строение человека. Написана в форме удивительного приключения мальчика и девочки. Автор не только профессионально разбирается в медицине, но и самостоятельно иллюстрировала эту книгу. Дети с удовольствием читали и перечитывали книгу.

Это, наверное, один из немногих примеров научной книги поданной под соусом книги для детей. По сути, научно-популярная книга, о строении человеческого тела рассказанная в виде истории.
Есть старый голливудский фильм, кажется, он называется – «Дорогая я уменьшил нас». В нем супружеская пара в результате не острожных действий главы семейства уменьшаются и попадают внутрь человеческого организма. Тут идея похожа, двое близнецов попадают в человеческое тело, вместе с ними в историю вляпывается и кот по имени Бекстер. Близнецы – Макс и Молли путешествуют по организму в поисках своего кота и выхода из тела. Попутно узнают массу информации о внутреннем строении тела и его особенностях. Общаются и разговаривают с клетками, эритроцитами, рибосомами и т.д. и т.п.
Для детей, особенно для младшего школьного возраста многое будет не понятно и занудно, а для подростков возможно скучно, так что я даже не знаю для какой целевой аудитории рассчитан данный роман-сказка.
Автор в угоду научности часто буксует с логичностью сюжета, не говоря уже о захватывающей (динамической) его составляющей. Книгу надо читать только с иллюстрациями, без них будет уже не тот эффект.
В общем, для одноразового ознакомления подойдет, но вот перечитывать сомнительно, что захочется.
