The Epistle of James: A Commentary
Written with the average church member in mind, this pastoral commentary on the Epistle of St James offers readers a clear explanation of the Saint's influential letter. Quotations from church fathers and parallel expressions from Scripture create a methodology consistent with Orthodox tradition.
By also using hymns and texts from the Orthodox liturgical services, the author supplies deeper and broader contexts for familiar biblical verses. His Eminence Dmitri Royster, retired Archbishop of Dallas and the South of the Orthodox Church in America, and author of Six SVS Press titles, fell asleep in the Lord on 28 August 2011.

9 books5 followersHis Eminence the Most Reverend Archbishop Dmitri (Royster) of Dallas and the South was the bishop of the Orthodox Church in America's Diocese of the South until his retirement on March 31, 2009. His consecration to the episcopate is regarded by many as the first of a convert in America.

Detailed, yet concise. He obviously has extensively studied what the apostles, evangelists, and holy fathers have said on the specific exhortations of this letter. He is also a contemporary, addressing modern Orthodox Christians on these holy matters.

A Beautiful commentary on the Book of James. I thought chapter 5 was particularly enjoyable and provided perspective on sacramental practices on healing, anointing of the sick and confession.

The book is more a resource for looking up particular passages than book to be read.
