There’s no such thing as magic and monsters. Or so I once thought.

After a fateful night before my junior year that starts out as innocent goofing around with friends, strange shadows and mysterious noises seem to be everywhere and I’m starting to think something sinister was let into my life. When my boyfriend is brutally murdered, the police write it off as a freak accident, deciding my “strange” testimony is given under duress. I know whatever got to Gavin wasn’t human and I refuse to stop looking until I find his killer, even if it proves once and for all that there are monsters living among us.

With the discovery that ghosts, mothmen, witches, vampires and all supernatural beings are real, Harper Young finds herself amidst a complex bundle of unseen heroes who call themselves “Keepers," sworn to protect the secrets of the paranormal creatures that walk this earth. As she tries to understand what’s so special about her that she’s able to break an old Keeper law and attend Guardare Academy, Harper has a baffling vision of kissing a mysterious guy before a blade is brought down on him. Before she can get a handle on her future, she becomes central to a battle between the questionable “heroes” and the evil she’s been training to fight, leaving her to wonder if there’s any way to change the fate that has been foretold before it’s too late.

Jen Naumann has done it again. With her fantastic imagination and beautiful writing style, she sucks the reader into her latest thriller Paranormal Keepers. I was hooked from the first page and engaged throughout. In the world she has created of creatures and keepers, much like Harper Young, I wasn’t sure who I could trust. With the exception of Dexter. At least I hoped he would be strong and trustworthy and not turn his back on Harper.
The action is started when Harper and her friends have an experience with a Ouija board. That is the catalyst to her whole world changing. From that moment on, it seems like Harper’s life is riddled with lies and secrets. Deemed an outcast at home, and then again when she is swept off to Guardare Academy where she is trained along with the keepers. Questions race through the readers mind, who or what is she really?
The ending was situated perfectly for a sequel. Not it’s not satisfying as a standalone, but let’s just say the door for more is open, which makes me happy!

I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me in a way of an more grown up Harry Potter world. Now don't get me wrong, the similarities are scarce , just that the world of the Keepers who are basically police over the Paranormal's, the Creatures (fairies, vampire's, Mothmen, werewolves ect). The world of the school/village reminded me of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, and a little with Harper growing up thinking she was a regular human (till almost 18). That's really the only similarities I seen, and it was not a bad thing at all. It was great. I love the bit of magic and the spells and stuff.

There were many twist and turns I did not see coming, and took me by surprise, which is unusual as I normally see that sort of thing coming.
I liked Harper our main character ok, I did find the first part of the book a little dragged out, before entering the Paranormal world. But I do easily get bored if it's just "normal" stuff, though the first part with her boyfriend getting killed by something that is clearly paranormal was interesting.

I was shocked at some of the betrayals from certain people I did not see coming. I was also appalled at a certain part where Dexter's attitude was just awful. But won't say what. No spoiling it for you. What I stated so far is not anything the blurb won't tell you.

Though the idea of this magical/paranormal world is not a new one, the spin taken on this one was awesome.
One thing Harpers housemates do to her is just awful, I could not believe they would do that to her. Man, this girl just can't get a break from the 'mean girls' of the world.

I was surprised by the ending, but its left open to wait for the next book, which I sure hope will be out soon. I sure hate waiting, lol.

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a bit of magic and paranormal. Not heavy on romance or anything, just a sweet possibility I guess you could say.
5 out of 5 stars for me.

Paranormal Keepers was a fun and interesting YA paranormal romance. The book follows Harper, who is convinced that there are paranormal creatures in the world and that one killed her boyfriend. When she’s proven right, she is whisked away to a school for Keepers – people who keep supernatural beings at bay. Once she gets there, though, she finds out that she just might be destined for more than she ever imagined.

What I enjoyed:

The slow-building romance.
Since Harper was still getting over her dead ex-boyfriend, the romance in this book developed relatively slowly, which I appreciated. Dexter and Harper started the book out as friends – they actually had developed a friendship over the internet for a full year before they even met, so they did have some mutual feelings for each other the first time they met, but neither of them jumped into anything. By the time they got together, I was definitely rooting for them as a couple!

Fun paranormal elements.
There were lots of interesting paranormal creatures in this book – mothmen (that one was new for me), zombies, vampires, demons, fairies and both good and evil witches – they were all there. I really loved all of the paranormal characters, and I thought that Naumann did a great job of making all of these characters blend in well with the story.

The ending.
This book had lots of excitement and twists and turns toward the end that kept me guessing. And I appreciated that things were wrapped up relatively nicely in this book, while there was still a little bit of a cliffhanger to make you want to read the next book.

The negatives:

The school setting.
I was really intrigued by this book at first, but it lost a little steam for me when Harper went off to a school for Keepers. For some reason, the book just dragged a little bit for me in the middle and became a tad too Harry Potterish, with sketchy teachers and supernatural classes. Harper was the outcast at her new school and people seemed to be just a little too randomly mean to her, which I had a hard time understanding. While I enjoyed the beginning and end of the book, I just had a bit of trouble connecting to it in the middle for some reason.

If you’re a fan of YA paranormal romance, this is a fun, quick read with some interesting creatures. Overall, I give it 3/5 stars.

Wow! I had high hopes for this book, and it still managed to exceed them!

Harper's story is mysterious, intense, dark, shocking... And many other wonderful adjectives. I won't say I was sucked in from page one; I did find it a little slow in the beginning, but not enough to lose my interest. It begins escalating soon enough, and then- BAM! From the moment Harper entered the Academy I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book in a day.

The world building was well done, and the characters were simply fantastic. Each character was well developed and felt natural. I cared about them deeply, and definitely formed an unhealthy attachment to Dexter. I especially loved that they were each so complex. Even Dexter (the new love of my life) was pretty flawed. They all are in a way, and that's what's so wonderful. That's real life. Nobody is perfect. And now I will stop raving about the characters, and discuss the plot. (Spoiler alert: it's going to be more raving.)

Holy plot twist Batman! Jen did an amazing job laying out this roller coaster of a plot line. I felt just as confused and frustrated as Harper as she tried to piece together what was happening. Why is she there? What makes her special? WHO CAN WE TRUST?? I was constantly changing my opinion on that last question. There are so many sides to everyone, you never feel certain about who is trustworthy.

Basically, I loved it. I had mild whip lash by the end, but it was worth it.

Paranormal Keepers was a wonderful YA paranormal read. It reminded me a lot of the show Supernatural (which is a good thing because I love that show), with its mythology and terminology. It had thrills, secrets, and a few unexpected twists along the way and I enjoyed it all.

Harper was a great heroine. She was thrown into an entirely new situation and kept both her head and her sense of humor. She was tough, clever, and a truly likable character.

Dexter was the love interest in this book and he was wonderful. He stood by Harper no matter what and he was very sweet with how he treated her. I thought he was a delight.

The romance was light but well done. I liked the progression of Harper and Dexter's relationship, going from infatuated friends to a devoted couple. After the events of this book, I'm hoping that they manage to hold on to a happy ending.

The plot moved quickly and kept me interested the entire way through. There were twists along the way, as well as an unexpected secret that really took me by surprise. I enjoyed the story and the ending has me curious about what will come next.

I really liked Paranormal Keepers. It was an enjoyed YA paranormal romance that had a few surprises along the way. YA lovers, this is a book worth checking out.

I have nothing but praise for Jen Naumann's Paranormal Keepers, I mean WOW!! from the very first page I was riveted. It was well written although I think the dialogue itself had some issues, Harper's internal narration made up for it. Harper, the main character is refreshingly brave if not a little foolhardy about dealing with the people in her life after her boyfriend Gavin's horrendous death. She is frigging fearless about telling people off when she maybe should think twice but I appreciated the fact that Harper realized she had no real friends in the popular group anymore so she basically took no prisoners.

Now the academy and all the fantastical creatures was well described and wonderfully written even if I thought all of them were shifty as hell. I don't know if I would have been able to sleep with those crazy people hanging around but the book was great and very imaginative. I ended up going to bed at 5am while reading it, I didn't want to put it down. Definitely recommend anyone who likes a darker edged YA fantasy novel!

It seems, that when it comes to books, death almost always grabs my attention. There's nothing really special about death – you die, you move on, right? Maybe there's something beyond us, maybe we're floating around – but anyways, I haven't figured out precisely why I'm drawn toward those types of books. Perhaps I really do need to see a psychologist.

I first came across Paranormal Keepers after I finished A Different Kind by Lauryn April. The entire idea of everyone assuming a girl kills her boyfriend – in reality, Harper was a witness, but no one believed her and probably thought she was on drugs – was pretty interesting. A few roads could have played out: 1) Harper would be in a mental institution, 2) said boyfriend by the name of Gavin would come back to life and everything goes to normal and it's all happy – blah blah blah, or 3) something else entirely. Really, I didn't actually remember the synopsis – I almost never do. Then again, the excerpt in A Different Kind, like all excerpts, are maybe one or two chapters tops.

Of course, as I got into the story, I thought Paranormal Keepers was basically another Mortal Instruments type of story – no angels majorly involved (they're mentioned). Technically, the Keepers in the story are similar to Nephilim, but the only similarity is how they basically keep the secret of paranormal creatures (sort of). That's pretty much it – oh, and they go to a school... which to me, looks like the movie version of Vampire Academy. The school in the movie, that is. Not the movie. It seems pretty gothic and isolated from the world, being in the Alps – that's a cold place to stick a school, isn't it?

But here's what's really different: Paranormal Keepers have mothmen and yetis. And yes... ZOMBIES. Unfortunately, said zombie is a professor and just looks gruesome. I was so hoping for an apocalypse of sorts.
“In that spirit, I’m going to introduce you to Professor Gehret. He may come off as a little intimidating at first, but he’s harmless. He’s the real reason you’re here. He’s what they call a mothman.”

I seriously wanted to see how that actually played out. Would Harper scream? Run? Or the hopefully least likely option: just widen eyes and accept it. If it were the last option, I would be pretty furious. There's a fur man! How could you NOT be scared in some way?!

Another thing that's different? Harper, as a certain character says, makes the light of every situation. She's not exactly cheery cheery, but when everyone's looking down at her because she's an outsider whose family didn't originally start at Guardare since forever, she tries to makes a joke out of it. Very much like Leo from The Heroes of Olympus series. Add on the sarcasm, of course.
“Wow, I’m starting to think I should run for homecoming queen, if there is such a thing here. That guy seemed really into me.”

One cannot simply leave a review hanging without talking about the love interest. Dexter has got to top one of my favorites... for most of the book. We don't actually meet Dexter until another situation pops up in which a jogger gets brutally murdered a year after Gavin's death, but Dexter makes quite the appearance as Harper's online friend who understands and believes her. He's even addicted to M&Ms, which is absolutely awesome. Or, I should just admit I'm addicted to M&Ms as well.

Then Naumann sort of had to ruin the picture by well... tossing in a surprise, I suppose.

Pictures of me plaster the plain white brick on the right side of the room, surrounded by handwritten words. When I step in closer, I realize they’re little snippets of conversations Dexter and I had online before I came to Guardare, and the pictures are all things I once had posted to Facebook.

O_O!!! Even though it's an art or mural, it's just plain creepy. It's worse than stalking, posting pictures of a crush on your wall. Unless it's a hot actor or a cool movie poster. Then, there are no problems at all, because chances of meeting them are pretty small. It's normal! But Harper is not a movie star and doesn't play Tris Prior or Katniss Everdeen. There is something remotely wrong with the picture.

Either way, Dexter has pretty much landed off of my favorite bookish love interests. But I do like how he's pretty supportive of Harper, even when he finds out something about her that's against Keeper Law. Have I mentioned he's the one who's around when everyone thinks Harper is a murderer, even though he only speaks to her online before they actually meet?

Naumann's latest work is a must to look at for Paranormal fans – especially those who would like to see a mothman. But while Paranormal Keepers sort of hints at a possible sequel or two, it's a stand alone from the looks of it.

I was instantly hooked by this story. The very first chapter sent chills through me, and I couldn’t help but be sucked into Harper’s life. You quickly learn that Harper’s boyfriend has died and everyone thinks she killed him. From that point on you’re pulled into a dark mystery as Harper tries to find out what happened to Gavin. His death changes her and because of it Harper finds herself dragged into this paranormal world and a battle between good and evil.

As the story goes on there are a lot of guys introduced to Harper’s life, and I liked that I didn’t know who her love interest was going to be right away. All of the characters felt so real and were developed well that their relationships with Harper grew naturally. In a lot of YA it’s obvious who the love interest is from the very beginning and I liked that Naumann kept me guessing and made this more about who the characters were than just making it a love story.

When Derek is introduced I immediately wanted to see him and Harper together, but Harper isn’t over Gavin yet and there’s a lot of great tension between them. As for Leo, you kind of love to hate him. At first I really wanted Harper to fall for Dex, but as the story went on I kind of wanted to see Leo redeem himself too. There is a little bit of a triangle that develops between Dex, Harper and Leo, but it was done in a way where I didn’t feel like Harper was being wishy-washy.

This book was full of twists and turns. As soon as I thought I knew what direction it was going in, things would change and nothing would be what I expected, and the ending was just awesome. There are a number of bitter-sweet moments that will pull at your heartstrings. And, while I would love to see a sequel, things do get wrapped up well in the end.

This book had scary moment and sweet ones as well. All together it was an exciting and entertaining read.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free through the Goodreads First Readers program.

When Harper Young's boyfriend is snatched away from her by unseen forces and brutally murdered, she is convinced that something otherworldly is to blame. Over the summer, she devotes all her time to researching the paranormal, looking for proof that what she saw wasn't a product of shock. Eventually, her suspicions are proved to be correct, and she's whisked away to Guardare, an academy for "Keepers". Their job is to, well, keep humans and creatures of the night separate.

With so many paranormal novels out there trying to make their mark, I wasn't certain how Paranormal Keepers was going to stick out. Look no further than Professor Gehret -- a mothman. Gehret is a delightfully-creepy character whose true colors aren't revealed until the novel's final moments. An honorable mention goes out to the zombie professor, who's not your textbook zombie -- more like a spirit reintroduced to its preserved corpse.

The narrative is well-paced and I never found myself getting bored with the story. Just wondering if there will be a sequel, because although it ends on a good note, there's still so much left to explore.

I really liked the beginning and intro of this book, especially after introducing the wonderful Gavin. I was hooked with their relationship. They have a connection with each other even though they’re still young. After the death of her boyfriend, it was exciting to see what would happen next. Since her friends turned on her and she was cast out, it was interesting to see if she will get her revenge. She never stopped looking for clues as to what or who killed Gavin. The only friend she has is her online friend Vhunter.
I was disappointed with the preceding events. It became like a cliché thing. Here is the secret world of paranormal and she goes to this Academy of people who knows about the paranormal world or IS a paranormal. The classes were also a bit like HP. Witchcraft 101, Handling the Undead. Maybe it was supposed to be hilarious? Did I fail to see it as funny?

Another thing, I wasn’t really hooked with Dexter. I’m more of a fan of Gavin or Professor Davies.

Paranormal Keepers got me hooked right from the start, and because of the hair-raising events that happened to Harper that sent chills down to my spine. This is the first novel that I've read by Jen Naumann, and I love it. Hopefully, there will be a continuation, because Jen Naumann can't just leave us hanging like that, right?

Harper, like most of Jen Naumann's female characters, is witty, brave, relatable and down-to-earth. I liked her immediately. I fancied Dexter up until he showed his prejudiced nature. Tsk tsk.
The mural on Dexter's wall was beautiful, though - photos of Harper and snippets of their conversations. Aw, I have to admit I found that lovely.
Paranormal Keepers is a fast-paced and fun monster story with a likeable lead character.

I won this book in a giveaway and boy am I glad I did..I soon as I saw the cover of this book was instantly drawn to it. When I opened it up I couldn't put it down! Harper is one awesome chick. These books should be made into movies, it reminds me of that vampire academy movie..but without a school of vampires. This book is a must read.

Paranormal Keepers is not an entirely original story . . .but Jen Naumann's writing is fast, exciting and completely addictive!
The story's main characters, Harper, tells her story retrospectively as we discover that nearly a year has passed since the death of her boyfriend. Harper has been ostracised by her friends who believe that she killed him, although she is certain a paranormal entity was involved.
These events occur following the night Harper is included in a group using an Ouija board, when she inadvertently connects with something Otherwordly. She becomes obsessed with the paranormal, even seeing dark shapes and witnessing Gavin's gruesome death.
After another strange murder Harper finds herself magically transported to Guardare Academy where 'Keepers' are trained to preserve the secret of the Paranormal, fighting rogue creatures when necessary.
To me Guardare is a mixture between Hogwarts and St Vladimir's;
"We pass through tall, intricate iron gates, and I get my first look at the entire academy. Perched on a slight hill, the dark green roofed chain of buildings runs alongside a river that continues on to a village below, surrounded by thick pine trees. There's much more to the academy that what Sofia showed me. It takes up what must be dozens of acres of land. Made of stone that fits in naturally with its surroundings, it looks to be at least three stories high, towering above us."
Harper is the first non-Keeper related human to enter Guardare and though there are those who are resentful of her presence, she readily accepts her new existence. She is helped by Sofia, a half-fairy, and Dexter who is fully committed to Guardare and the Keepers.
Despite the fact that he is the bad-boy I reply liked Leo and was hoping that the chemistry between him and Harper would develop into something more!
Harper's adventure becomes a fight between good and evil as she uncovers secrets about her own life and she learns that not everyone can be trusted.
Although I felt that the story becomes slightly scrappy towards the end I love Jen Naumann's detailed descriptions and the way she is able to balance action and romance with the tense mystery of the plot.

Book Review- Paranormal Keepers by Jen Naumann

Harper is blamed for her boyfriend Gavin’s death. After participating in an Ouija board game one night with friends, it is revealed that Gavin would die first. After that night Harper starts seeing things she thinks are ghosts and monsters. It freaks her out and Gavin encourages her to research it. On night as the two make out in a place they frequent, Gavin is yanked away into the darkness. Harper hears him scream and runs to find him. His lifeless body lies among the trees. Harper knows something unhuman killed him. She is determined to find out what happened and prove it.
While she is investigating a suspicious murder, she is approached by a reporter. Things don’t seem right. In fact the reporter is shocked at what Harper says. The next thing she knows she is in a strange place. It’s a Keepers academy. All the creatures she has been researching and looking for are real. The Keepers are in charge of upholding the treaty. She is shocked at her presence and the fact that her on-line friend VHunter is also here. None of the students want her there as she is the only human among them.
Major secrets come out as to who she really is and why she is at the academy. She doesn’t know who to trust. When the truth comes out, Harper must save herself.
This book was dark. The beginning included Gavin’s death which was sad. Harper was blamed in the eyes of her friends and withdrew. I felt sorry for her immediately. She is driven to find the truth as to what happened. She keeps going even after those she trusts turn on her. Harper has to deal with betrayal a lot throughout the book.
Yet she is still a stronger character who wants to do the right thing. Unfortunately there are so many secrets being kept from her she has no idea what will come at her next.
The author did a great job of conveying her confusion and frustration. Through the whole story the reader isn’t sure, just like Harper, who she can trust. The true motives of the characters is a guessing game. You never knew who would do what next. I give it a 3 out of 5.

***I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review***

This was a pretty cool story, and it all started with an innocent game with a Ouija board. After the death of her boyfriend Harper is convinced that something paranormal that killed him. Now she is determined to find proof of its existence. Harper spends so much time researching anything paranormal in hopes of finding the truth. She befriends a young man online who goes by the name of Vhunter who actually believes her and becomes someone she trusts with a lot of her private life.

One afternoon about a year after the death of Gavin there is a report of a suspicious incident. Harper is determined that this might be the work of a paranormal being. She rushes from school to the scene to try to get some answers and next thing she knows she is transported to a secret academy that is a training facility for Keepers; a secret society that serves to protect humanity from creatures such as vampires, witches, werewolves and even mothmen.

Between the cover artwork and the synopsis this definitely had my attention. And I was not disappointed. I liked that it incorporated a larger scale of paranormal entities that most books and even still had a bigger villain that played a role bigger than everything combined. It was always hard to know who to trust and it kept me guessing quite often, that alone made me enjoy it even more. And even Harper didn't know who she could and couldn't trust. It seemed like every time I thought someone was playing one side it turned out they were playing sometimes for both.

The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was that I just felt the way Harper was just whisked away and her parents were going to just find out she was being sent to an elite school just felt like it was rushed and even Harpers reaction was not what I expected. Also I was hoping it wasn't going to be a stand alone book seeing as there is so much that could be done with this environment so the ending was a little rushed to make a satisfactory ending. All in all I really enjoyed this book.

Hey everyone! So today I'm reviewing Paranormal Keepers, and the main characters are Harper (Protagonist), Dexter (Love Interest), Sofia (Somewhat Sidekick), Leo (Another Love Interest), and Professor Gehret (Someone what antagonist). It's paranormal romance, young adult book, and has it's fair share of good and bad, Some things I liked included the idea. Although it's kinda the same old paranormal school story, I think that with the way the author headed with it, it has potential to be a great series. I also liked Sofia, she was really cool, but I do wish we got to see more of her, and I don't like the twist she had in the end. I liked the writing style, it's written in first person, and even though Harper is somewhat whiny, it actually wasn't half bad. I did like Harper as well, there of course were parts where I wanted to slap her, but most of the time she was pretty cool. I also liked Gavin, who we meet in the beginning and about midway through the book. He was really sweet, and I loved that scene in the beginning with Harper and Gavin. I also liked the character Bess, who ends up being a witch. I also like Professor Davies, who is my favorite character. He wasn't annoying, but was smart, and I really liked his almost mellow/happy attitude. Now, my dislikes. I disliked Leo, he was the character I disliked the most. He had huge moods swings, and he had nice parts, but the random mood swings were just unexplained and annoying. I also disliked the love story that was put it, I don't know if the author was trying to make a love triangle or what, but it never even got that far. Some parts, like Leo, the love story, and Harper's roommates. They're underdeveloped, but are somewhat major events in the story, so I wish we had a little more on them. Speaking of the book itself, I hated the weird colored, size, and just the font itself, but the cover was really pretty. Overall, I did like the book, but hope in the second book that some of the gaping story holes are filled in!

Harper Young discovers that the paranormal might just be the new normal for her when her boyfriend is brutally killed in a freak accident by a monster. She knows that what killed him is not from this world, but what she didn't expect was to be part of it. Then she's introduced to the Keepers, a group sworn to protect the secrets of the paranormal creatures on Earth. While everyone there has some sort of magical ability or ancestral connection, Harper seems pretty human and out of place. Fitting in isn't easy, but it's something she has to do especially if the monster that killed her boyfriend is out to get her too.

This book is set in a really intriguing world with a huge cast of characters and creatures. It has a Vampire Academy setting in that there are "royal bloods" who act like they rule the school and a lot of self defense classes. Paranormal Keepers is definitely unique on its own, but the plot seemed pretty similar to a lot of other Young Adult books out there with the MC finding out about the paranormal world and being connected to a bigger overall prophecy.

Harper as a character didn't really click with me. I felt a bit distant from all the characters, but I think the intrigue of the Keeper world kept me hooked. There's a lot of backstabbing in this book in terms of friends which was a bit depressing to be honest, but it was cool to see Harper grow through those experiences.

Still, there are so many unanswered questions with different relationships and prophecies which made the story seem a bit flat. If I had to summarize the entire novel in a phrase I'd go with "setting up." That's what the novel felt like to me - just a set up to what could be an amazing and intense series. There were still a good number of plot twists to keep the story going so it didn't seem boring. To wrap things up, I think this series has a lot of potential with all the answered questions, but in terms of this book by itself - it didn't make a huge impact on me.

What a great new series! There's a policing agency of people who keep track of the creatures. You can't be human to be a keeper, except for Harper. You see, she starts seeing things, and then watches her boyfriend be murdered by something not human, and then all of a sudden, one of those keepers finds Harper and brings her into their world. So all of a sudden, she's hated, knows nothing of their rules, falls in love, has a prophecy that she's going to end the world, and has her heart broken. Wow right :) Plus, the world the author created for this one is so fun :)

Harper was the it girl. Part of the popular crowd, until her boyfriend died. They they treated her like she was the murderer. And she became the girl who fell and broke. She wraps herself in researching every single thing she can find about supernatural things. Well, not all of it is right but it helps. Because when something else happens, and Harper can't help but go look, a keeper finds out she's something special and literally takes her from the spot to her new world. She doesn't get to talk to her family, she has to deal with hatred from people who don't know her, horrible mean girls, and try to over come her grief with the fact that there's another guy who's captured her heart. She's strong, brave, sometimes quite hilarious with her inner monologue and funny retorts.

The plot also has some excellent twists in the mystery as it unravels. Like that one person who was a bad guy, and that other people who seemed bad but was good, and the scary guy who was just intimidating, and the relationship between Dex and Harper is great, because it grew. No one was falling over themselves at first sight. And Leo, ok, I wanted to hate him, but now, I almost feel sorry for him and I want to see what will happen. The professors are interesting, and I can't believe who picked which sides. I want more and like as fast as possible!!! Gimme Gimme! 5 Magical Paws!! :)

Think you wanna get this book(you know you do) Check out Amazon, or wanna find more reviews before buying this book Check out GoodReads or even check out Author page, the author herself for other books and updates on when the next one comes out!

This an ‘arc” copy eBook supplied by Netgalley. I am not receiving any monetary benefit or any kickback for this review. I received this arc for an honest review.

I was not 100% on board with this book. I had to choke it down because of the main character. Many of characters seemed to switch personalities like a light switch. I think that the way the character just put up with abuse that heaped on her. There seemed to be an unfair and unusual amount of bullying and mean girl cliché. There was too many times in the book that I wanted Gibb’s slap the character upside the head.

The premise was a good idea, I just didn’t care for it. I did like the slow build romance. After the main characters (Harper) experienced a world shattering event: the death of her high school boyfriend. She tries to figure out how it happened. It’s during this that she meets some people that changes what she sees in the world. It did have some interesting paranormal characters that was unique.

I just felt that the story dragged, and I wasn’t interested in any of it. I think if my expectation from the description had panned out through the chapters I would of liked this book more. I give it two out of 5 mothman. If you enjoy high school dram with a side of supernatural, try this book. This book has 396 pages, and took me 4 hours to trudge through it. This book reads like Buffy meets Harry Potter. Harper is a great tough chick heroine who manages to confront some extraordinary challenges. There’s romance, magic, and lots of different paranormals all rolled into a truly fun read.

Harper watched her boyfriend get killed and it drastically changed her popular high school life. In the months that follow, she abandoned her popular friends and threw herself into finding the explanation to the unexplainable. She’s 100% convinced that there are vampires, werewolves, ghosts and more out there, and she’s determined to find her proof. This search led her to an online chat room where she “met” a new online friend who shares her beliefs. On the search, Harper ends up being abducted by the paranormal keepers. This hidden group of individuals is trained from birth to defend the world against and hide records of the paranormals out there.

No one is happy that Harper is there, except her online friend, Dex. There’s a lot of backstabbing, pranks, and hate that make Harper’s life pretty miserable. The only bright spot in all of this is Dex, who is working hard to show Harper that he is for real (even if he was put up to the task of chatting with her online by the keepers).

This book has lots of twists and turns, keeping you guessing until the end. As the first book in a series, it totally sucked me in. I can’t wait to see where Dex and Harper end up next!

Paranormal Keepers by Jen Naumann is a paranormal romance and mystery novel. Harper Young was out with her friends and her boyfriend, Gavin at the local cemetery to hold a séance. Jess, a friend of Harper’s, asks Harper to help her with the Ouija board. Things start to happen to Harper after touching the planchette. She starts seeing strange shadow figures and hearing whispers. Harper starts researching all things paranormal to try and get answers. When Harper and Gavin are out together one evening, something attacks Gavin. Gavin ends up dead and Harper is devastated.

Harper is now a social outcast (and people think she murdered Gavin)! On the first day of her junior year, she hears about a girl that was attacked. It sounds paranormal and she goes to investigate. Her life will never be the same again. Harper meets Sofia and is transported to Guardare Academy. Harper finds out that unearthly (supernatural). Harper will finally start to get the answers she has been seeking but what will it cost her. Who can Harper trust and why is everyone looking at her like they want to kill her?

I give Paranormal Keepers 3.75 out of 5. It is nicely written, but it is not outstanding (or different from other paranormal romance books). I liked Paranormal Keepers, but I kept hoping for more. Please be aware that this book is written in the first person. I think this book could have been outstanding with just a little more work.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow oh wow! This book was quite the interesting one... I have to admit I was pretty excited for this book when I read the synopsis...and more excited when I saw that it had a pretty good rating on goodreads so I dived in headfirst and boy was I happy I did.

This book wastes no time in getting right into the paranormal area that the title promises. The world of the keepers and the creatures that stalk the 'night' was really interesting and new to me. I have to admit that I don't think I've ever read a book about the paranormal in which the keepers and the creatures had the kind of relationship described in this book.

Harper was definitely a one of a kind character that you couldn't help but sympathize with. I mean, it's pretty hard not to when her boyfriend was murdered basically right in front of her eyes. And then being transported to a completely different place with rules that you can't understand....oh yeah, I get her!

The author did a wonderful job building this book up...there was constantly something new happening...some new big event or revelation that kept me wanting to read more. I wasn't sure who to trust throughout most of the book...everyone was pretty complex and seemed like they could be going for any side. Or just out for themselves.

The author whips together the ending in the perfect way that answers quite a few questions for us readers, but also leaves the world open for another book (which by the looks of her goodreads it's in the works??!! I really hope so. I've already added it to my to-read list and will be anxiously awaiting cover reveal etc.

description

Another thing, I wasn’t really hooked with Dexter.

I’m more of a fan of Gavin or Professor Davies.

Nonetheless, I liked it. I would like to see what happens to Harper. Will she learn how to fight? What happened to Gavin, Sofia and Leo? A box full of mysteries was opened at the end and it made it exciting for the second book.

I guess the lesson here is that never let peer pressure let you do things you don’t want to.

I was drawn in from the start. I was drawn to Harper and Gavin even knowing that something bad was going to happen to them.
The drama starts with a Ouija board and sophomore party, that then leads to us witnessing Gavin’s Death, then following Harper’s struggle and search to find the truth.

Harper’s search brings her to the attention of the Keepers; they abduct her and take her to Guardare Academy –Guardare Academy is a cross between Hogwarts and St. Vladimir’s Academy– where she goes on to meet Human Keepers, Paranormal Creatures and Human /Creature cross breeds. At Guardare Harper finds herself with many enemies, but she manages to find friendship in a Keeper named Dexter and later on love. After discovering dark secrets about Harper’s heritage, we are left at the end of the book with Dexter and Harper on the run.

This story was quite fast paced and especially action packed for a first book of a series. It laid the grounds for a new series and a new world, without feeling bogged down with information like some firsts can. The story was very easy to read and the writing flowed beautifully. I really enjoyed this book. It can’t really say much more without giving away the twists and turns, so I’ll stop and finish with “Four Stars”.

Harper's boyfriend Gavin had been killed the year before. Everyone blamed Harper, but there was no proof. Shortly after that, strange things that Harper couldn't explain, happened on a daily basis. Human-shaped shadows moving around her, dark figures lurking outside her bedroom window, strange noises in the middle of the night. Vhunter is an online friend that Harper talks to a lot. At a homicide scene, Harper meets Lexie, then wakes up on a stone slab. Lexie tells her that she's at Guardane Academy. There was an agreement between humans and unearthly creatures. Keepers clean up after creature attacks and do whatever it takes to ensure the agreement. At the academy, keepers learn how to deal with the creatures and how to keep the secret safe. Vhunter's real name is Dexter. He's a keeper at the academy. Harper is a strong girl, but has been lost since the murder of her boyfriend. I found her to be loyal and caring, but has a low opinion of herself. She feels like she doesn't fit in anywhere. Dexter is kind, caring, and loyal. He's also a smart and strong young man. I would recommend the book to anyone that likes paranormal plots.

A YA novel that is full of monsters that are really living -- they're not make believe. Harper is convinced that one of them killed her boyfriend Dexter. When she succeeds finding the killer, she is whisked away to a specal school to become a keeper.. A keeper is someone who is sworn to keep the secret of paranormal creatures that walk this earth.

The author has written an awesome, excellent book. It is fun and interesting. There are lots of paranormal creatures in this story. There are several unexpected twists and turns making this a great book to read!
