Ben Dowling loves living in quaint, little Rowley, Pennsylvania, even with all its faults and idiosyncrasies. But something terrible is brewing in the usually quiet town. A mysterious mist arrives one day out of nowhere, and with it comes a creature out of nightmare. The Harbinger, a spirit created by man’s most primal evil urges, feeds on all the hatred, all the petty rivalries and all the depression and fear that the citizens of Rowley bury in their hearts. The Harbinger is killing the townspeople one by one, and turning neighbor against neighbor in its ultimate goal of death, madness and destruction.
Ben must rise above the Harbinger’s influence with the help of his childhood sweetheart, Elise. The young couple, with their love for each other and for Rowley, is the only thing standing between the creature and their town’s doom.
David Bright tells an amazing tale with this story. One of darkness, of friendship and love. He's a vivid and poetic in his style. I expect to see this author make a name for himself. Highly suggested.
A thick fog has descended on the small, quiet town of Rowley. This is no ordinary fog, however, and no matter how hard the inhabitants try, they cannot leave town. With the fog thickening rapidly and urged on by the mysterious murky cloud, the towns folks’ hate and anger bubbles to the surface. Not only do they have to be afraid of what each of their neighbours are now capable of, but also of the dark deadly monster lurking within the sinister grey shroud...
This is a gripping horror read that keeps you truning the pages because you have to know what is coming next. The story flows well and the character descriptions are just enough to give your imagination something to create around.
What is happening in the town of Rowley? Why are all of the citizens of the town giving into anger and why are so many being killed? Well read the book and you will find that maybe the only thing that will fight the worse of all evil lives within the hearts of each and every one of us.
Harbinger is set in the fictional town of Rawley, loosely based on Hawley, PA, the author has a great grasp of local sense of place. This is a fast-paced read. The mist rolls in and the mayhem ensues, the true character of the town's people is explored as the mysterious unknown beast which stalks them looms heavy over the town's fate. This book was published during Halloween by a new local author with a lot of promise. I would watch for more from David Bright, a future is ahead of him.
