I'm a pretty big fan of the UFC. I enjoy going out the pub with my father every few weeks and catching the latest fight event. It's something to do with my father and I would appreciate it for that alone. Since I'm don't enjoy watching Hockey or Football, being a western Canadian this is really the last major sport to be interested in (I think most baseball fans are in Ontario where our only team is).
This book has a few seperate sections. The first lists all the fighter that have been in the UFC (I'm not sure what the criteria to be listed is as there are a few fighters that had only 1 UFC fight, but I did notice a couple minior fighters from the old days that were not listed). This section is pretty pointless as the book gets outdated pretty quickly. You'd be better off checking out the UFC website. It's nice for the retired fighters though and some of the major fighters get a couple pages full of pictures and text. The text is pretty insubstantial, unfortunately. I didn't learn much at all about the fighter I already know - you get less than you would get from the background info you get during the actual UFC events of each fighter. So again, this is only cool for fighters that you don't know of already.
The next section is more informative. It gives brief overviews of every single UFC event. It gets a bit exhausting to read, and you really would rather just get a DVD full of the old events to actually watch. So this is good for reference... not that you would ever need a reference book for UFC events (unless you're trying to get a job as a UFC commentator or something).
There's a couple other small pieces in the book. A page on the girls of UFC, you know, those girls in underwear that hold the round signs (as if you could forget what round out of the 3 rounds the next round is). There's a couple informative pages about the UFC belt and the commentators. And then a section of cool facts - like who has the most submissions etc.
The final section is similar to the section on the UFC events but it concerns the UFC reality tv show The Ultimate Fighter. It was interesting to look at the early seasons of the show and recognize some of the current major fighters who got their starts on the show.
Overall, pretty disappointing because of the idea that it, like so many books of its kind, are completely useless in light of the internet. This could have been defended by including more esoteric and well-researched text pieces but the text pieces are very light weight and I found myself not learning anything new about the fighters.
It was cool to read about fighters that I've heard about but haven't had the chance to see fight yet - to get me amped up about seeing them fight in the future.
Also, I'm pretty disappointed that I picked up this book just a couple days ago and it doesn't clearly state that it was last updated in 2011. I figured this would be something they would reprint yearly. But that's probably my fault for not looking into the book more thoroughly before purchase... and it was in the bargain bin, so I should have suspected.

I am a massive UFC fan, without even reading this book I give it 5 stars, received as a christmas present I have just flicked through the 400+ pages and the attention to details is superb. Everything from fighter profiles to all UFC events and the Ultimate Fighter line ups. Some amazing photos too. This is a must for any UFC fan.
Have now finished reading this, read every word and I stick by my initial review in saying this is a must read for any UFC fan, would love them to do an updated version from when this encyclopedia finished up until today. This is one book I will be keeping and reading again in the future.

i love it but it's more of a dictionary of ufc fighter's but i have it and i love cause of course i love sports

Very detailed history of UFC since its beginnings to now almost 20+ years later.
