Jaycee Clark is best known for her Deadly books, a series of romantic suspense novels featuring the very sexy Kinncaid brothers. But before Aiden, Ian, Brayden, Gavin, and Quinlan there was Jock Kinncaid, the charismatic patriarch to the Kinncaid family, and Kaitlyn O’Reilly, the woman who captured his heart forever.

Kaitlyn O’Reilly, an RN, believed she’d found love with the charming and well-liked surgeon she’d met at work. Landon Goldburg was kind, attentive, and she thought they had so much in common. Now engaged, the good doctor has quickly become the man of her nightmares. As he grows more controlling and violent, Kaitlyn wants her freedom.

Jock Kinncaid can’t stop thinking about the quietly beautiful—and engaged—redhead he met at a fund-raising gala months ago. He knows a spitfire lurks beneath the surface of this woman who’s invaded his dreams, and he knows she’s exactly what’s been missing from his otherwise ideal life. When a chance meeting throws the two of them together again, Jock swears he won’t let her get away this time.

But even as Jock vows to protect the woman he loves and Kaitlyn struggles to trust Jock and the passion between them, the deranged doctor is bent on destroying them both, even if it means killing the only thing he loves.

I’ve read several of the Kinncaid Brothers books by Jaycee Clark and really enjoyed them. Because of that, I was excited to read Deadly Beginnings, which is a prequel in the Kinncaid Borthers series. The story tells how Jock and Kaitlyn met and fell in love. (Jock and Kaitlyn are the parents of the Kinncaid brothers and obviously, started it all!)

As those before me, and my sons after will follow, the woman I'm blessed with and the family we'll share, to life and to death, this I'll defend.

At the start of the book, I thought the story was going to be creepy. The villain of the story, Kaitlyn’s ex fiancé, is all kind of crazy and I was totally prepared for a thriller type, romantic suspense story. There’s definitely a creepy factor but the stronger story line was the sweet romance that develops between Jock and Kaitlyn. I’m guessing if the book was longer, more space could have been given to developing the suspense part. With the shorter length, the suspense is used to bring the two main characters together and is secondary to the developing romance. That’s too bad, because the villian’s POV was the best part of the book for me. I can’t help it, I like a good deranged killer!

The book was well written and the steam factor was appropriate for the length of the book as well as the setting.

He was lost in her sleek, damp heat.
So hot.
So wet.
So fucking right.
Her inner muscles squeezed him, again and again.
When her legs and arm tightened around him, he lost his hold on his body.
He knew he should slow down. He didn’t want to hurt her.
She yelled again and kept gripping him.
Jock groaned, his back arching as he thrust so deep he didn’t know where she stopped and he began.

It’s hard not to like reading how much of a charmer Jock was and how protective he was of Kaitlyn.

It might not be the time to tell her for a while, but Kaitie was his. He wasn't about to her go. He sure as hell wasn't going to let some bastard scare her, let alone leave another bruise on her prefect body.

Fans of the series will enjoy getting to see how it all started. The only complaint I have is that the villain had promise and I would have enjoyed getting a more complete thriller type story. I definitely plan to go back and read the books in this series I haven't had a chance to read yet. A solid 3.5 STAR READ.

As soon as he sees her, Jock Kinncaid knows she is the one he's going to marry. Pity, Kaitlyn O'Reilly is already engaged...

Kaitlyn "certainly not Katherine" O'Reilly is in over her head. She thought she found the perfect man, only for him to turn into a perfect nightmare. Dr. Landon Goldburg III dictates every aspect of her life—from what she'll wear to how she'll talk, who she'll talk to, and she's certain he's also sabotaged her ability to enter med school. A doctor's wife place is at home, he says.

When he hits her, she knows she has to end things. Unfortunately, her fiance won't accept her ring back. She's his, you know. And she'll learn.

I wished it was longer. As it was, the only thing that was "fully" developed was the romance, while the best part, the suspense with its crazy villain, took the back seat to the "love story" between Jock and Kaitlyn. Yes, the romance was cute and sweet, but also rather rushed (due to the length of the story, I suppose) and hence rather unbelievable (in the love department, there was no problem with the lust).
And I couldn't help but think Kaitlyn simply changed one overbearing man for another. Yes, Jock was sweet and he "asked" instead of "told", but he still wanted it all his way (no highway option) and although he made her think she actually had a choice, she never had one. He was her knight in shining armor, her hero...Of course she fell for him. He was kind, he was gentle, he never lifted a hand over her...Of course he was "different" from her abusive, crazy ex.

I don't know, I just didn't "feel" the love, and with that after taste of Jock being quite similar to Landon, minus the abuse and craziness, with added charm, I didn't "buy" it.

This is the way to start a series! Jock Kincaid sees Kaitlyn across the dance floor and approaches her and leads her into a dance. Who would have thought this woman who he followed out of the venue and has bruises would be the same woman who shows up at the cottage a few weeks later and the same woman he cannot forget. She is definitely battered but not broken. They have something special and over the weekend a trust is forged and upon returning her former fiance is waiting for her and tries to abduct her but she gets away and runs, straight to Jock. This one was more of a novella length but perfect for starting this series.

4 Stars Deadly Beginnings is an adult contemporary romantic suspense thriller by Jaycee Clark, and prequel to her Deadly (Kinncaid Brothers) series.

Kinncaid family motto: This I’ll defend. Because nothing is more important to a Kinncaid than his family.

The series revolves around the wealthy and powerful Kinncaid brothers, the women they love, and the strength of family ties. Each story blending the perfect balance of contemporary romance and a chilling, highly suspenseful plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat, dying to know just what happens next. And Deadly Beginnings is a wonderful addition to the series ... because before Aiden, Ian, Brayden, Gavin, and Quinlan there was Jock Kinncaid, the charismatic patriarch to the Kinncaid family, and Kaitlyn O’Reilly, the woman who captured his heart forever.

Once again, Ms. Clark blends sensual romance, danger, and a psychotically obsessed villain into a well-written story that will leave you cheering for the villain’s demise. My only complaint was that the story was missing some of the spine-tingling suspense I've come to love in all of the other books in the series, resolving the conflict with the deranged doctor a bit too quickly for my taste. Regardless, Deadly Beginnings is passionate story, with a satisfying HEA, about the one love that started it all.

Content: graphic language, mild violence, explicit sex, and oral.
Warning:

I also recommend: Deadly Shadows (Deadly, #1) by Jaycee Clark Deadly Ties (Deadly, #2) by Jaycee Clark Deadly Obsession (Deadly, #3) by Jaycee Clark Deadly Games (Deadly, #4) by Jaycee Clark Deadly Secrets (Deadly, #5) by Jaycee Clark

I love Jatcee Clark's writing and her Kinncaid books, but maybe I was expecting too much from this one...

This is a kind of prequel to all other books since it's Jock and Kaitlyn's book.

It's ambiented in the seventies, but I had the feeling that it would be more suited if it was the end or beginning of the century. Apart from the presence of the cars and the way they're dressed, it has a taste of time long passed.

Jock was possesive in a way that is more suited to knights and even if Kaitlyn was fun and indipendent, she too seemed more like a lady than a modern woman.

The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because their banter was cute and endearing. But the story was a bit over-the-top... It didn't ring true... I don't know exactly why. It could be because it was rushed. Or maybe because I didn't buy Jock's insta-love. Or Beth's almost too rushed attachment to a man she just met. I really cannot point a finger on what didn't work exactly...

All this said, maybe other readers will find it better. On my part, I'll keep reading Ms. Clark's books hoping this one was an exception!

Enjoy the narration on the audio. The narrator did a good job; she fit the tone of the story well. Liked the mystery element and the bit of tenseness it added to the overall story.

This is a prequel to this series, but does have some scenes at the end with the characters from the other books. So, it’s mostly told in the past, but if you’ve read the other books, you get a glimpse into the lives of the main characters from the other books. It’s brief and even though I haven’t read any of the other books, I enjoyed it.

This book features the story for the parents of the Kinncaid siblings featured in the other books. Kaitlyn is a nurse engaged to a man that starts to show his true colors. Kaitlyn meets Jock at a party and the 2 have an instant connection. Kaitlyn is in danger and Jock offers help. The two quickly began to heat things up and fall for each other.

The romance is really sweet with some hot times! The chemistry between Jock and Kaitlyn is really great. I do wish some more time was spent on the development of their relationship, but still enjoyed what was there. Liked both characters. Kaitlyn didn’t really make the best decisions, but I still liked her. She had some sass. Loved how much Jock was there for her. The opening scene was great! Loved that suspense and waiting to see when everything would boil over.

Really looking forward to reading/listening to the rest of the series! Sounds like it’ll have some entertaining suspense!

This is my first story from Jaycee Clark, I enjoyed it. It gave me suspense and creepy. Jaycee Clark grabbed my attention in the prologue and kept it till the end. I like Jock but sometimes he got on my nerves, he can be very overbearing, his protective side served him well. I like how he wants to the best for Kaitie. I liked Kaitie she is smart, caring and has dreams. I could feel the abuse inflicted on her, this is the story you hear way too much. This story does take place in 1969. I really enjoyed the epilogue. My biggest complaint is Deadly Beginnings is very slow moving, I'm not sure way.

Deadly Beginnings grabbed me from the first page leaving chills running down your back. This is a book of a very serious issue that plague us still today “abuse”. Who would not want a hero like Jock, every abused woman in the world today would give an arm or leg to have a man like him coming riding in and take them away to a safe place. By the time you get to the end of this story you just go awwwwwwwwwwwwww with a big smile on your face, stars in your eyes, and you feel at peace with the world. This is a prequel of Jaycee Clark's Deadly series based on the Kinncaid Brothers what a wonderful way to start the series.

The author touches on a very serious issues abuse, control and power struggle, why taking a very serious issue seriously but puts humor into it. In a very touching story Kaitlyn is taking her life back, finding the humorous side and learning to move on why dealing with a controlling ex that will not let her go.

Kaitlyn is an RN who fell for the dashing Doctor Landon she thought he was every woman’s dreams come true. They got engaged he changed overnight becoming demanding and abusive. Landon will control her, she will become the wife he needs and he will do whatever he needs to, to make this happen. She will not be the one who got away like the others. What did happen to his other fiancés, where are they? Kaitlyn finds herself in a nightmare of abuse and cannot get out. Nowhere to turn, no one to help, who would believe her anyway Landon is an upstanding doctor everyone loves. All it takes is one night, one look across a ballroom and she finds her hero. Kaitlyn being both stubborn and independent may lose the one chance she has to not only get way from Landon but to start a new life and maybe a new love.

All it takes is one look across the crowed room for Jock to know he found the women of his dreams. Jock is use to getting what he wants when he finds out she is engaged it puts the breaks on or can he? She doesn’t look happy she only smiles when he dances with her. He doesn’t like how Landon is treating her but he walks away. He can’t get her out of his mind nor the way she was treated. She deserves so much better, on one lonely beach they meet again and he isn’t going to let her go this time. Whatever it takes she will be his.

Oh the things we find out about Landon he is evil and no one knows. Jock will do whatever it takes to keep his lady safe. He will take Landon down and destroy his life if need be. He makes a powerful promise to Kaitlyn “As those before me, and my sons after will follow, the woman I'm blessed with and the family we'll share, to life and to death, this I'll defend”.

The one issue I had with this book was Kaitlyn when it came to sex I just do not see a virgin giving in to sex so easy not when she has been abuse. I just do not see her jumping his bones and taking control like she did. Besides this I found the book not only to be believable but a wonderful read.

I could not have said it better then Kaitlyn “Life just throws you places, and if you wait, if you listen, you can see the blessings.” We are all blessed if we just look and listen.

From the first page I was taken in I read up to chapter 2 before I went to bed. I had trouble sleeping due to the first pages in this book. It was not only chilling but scary. I did not want to put this book down. It was a wonderful outstanding book that when you are finished you are at peace. I have never read a book that at the end of it I felt like the weight of the world had been taken off my shoulders. I had the best night sleep in weeks. Ms Clark you have me hooked, looks like I will be buying this series, I just have to know what happens to all to Kaitlyn and Jocks sons.

Quotes

"Took you long enough!"

Jock threw back his head and laughed. "Kaitie lass, I drove here like a soul escaping hell and thankfully didn't have a traffic accident. But you're welcome."

"He'd make it so she didn't have to worry. Now that she was back in his life, he wasn't just going to sit back and let her go."

"So many blessings, Kaitie."

"It's all just beginning, isn't it?"

"A beginning worth waiting for."

I really liked this book and after I read it I saw all the other books that came ahead of it I'm interested in reading the complete series. This book was pretty much how it all started; it's the prequel. I hadn't read a book like this before, it's in order of how I like to read things; from where they start, but it's technically the last book in the series.

I thought that Deadly Beginnings had a really good storyline. Jock meets Kaitlyn at an event and he instantly knows that she is the woman he is going to marry, but she's engaged to another man who is certainly not good for her because he didn't treat her right. This story is told in three perspectives; Kaitlyn, Jock, and Landon. The book starts off in Landon's perspective and the more I read, the more I hated him, he was a real monster. He liked to play God and not in the doctor aspect, in his personal life. He liked to date women that weren't as socially upscale as him, he didn't like independent women, he liked to control them and make them into the perfect wife for him. He would pick what they wore, how they spoke, and managed every aspect of their lives and when they disobeyed they got punished. Talk about being in a nightmare relationship, poor Kaitlyn didn't know how to get away from him. An unexpected encounter with Jock changes everything for her and her future. I was rooting for Jock the whole time, he was so sweet, caring, affectionate, and patient. He cared for her and treated her with respect and encouraged her to go to medical school; something that Landon didn't want her to pursue, but not Jock, he wanted her to make her own choices in life, to do what made her happy.

I was so happy to learn how far Jock would go to protect Kaitlyn from Landon who was enraged when she left him and would stop at nothing to get her back. It was so good for Kaitlyn to have a normal relationship where she could be herself. I was so happy with the ending and now I have more books to read about this family.

I recommend Deadly Beginnings to all you romantics out there, you'll be happy with this one.

This prequel to The Deadly (Kincaid Brothers) series is a thrilling read that keeps the reader on their toes.

RN Kaitlyn O’Reilly thought she had found love with a well liked and charming surgeon, but once engaged the good doctor became the stuff of nightmares and Kaitlyn hasn’t been able to find a way out. Jock Kincaid knows that the beautiful – but engaged – redhead he met at a fund-raising gala is exactly what’s been missing from his life. When he finally meets her again, he swears that not only is he not letting her get away again, but to protect her from the deranged doctor bent on destroying them both.

This steady to fast paced plot keeps readers on their toes with suspense, drama and romance. The author paints such a vivid picture of each scene that the reader feels as if they are taking part in the unfolding drama. The characters are strong, compelling and easily related to.

The attraction between Kaitlyn and Jock sizzles with passion and captures the heart of the reader. Kaitlyn has a strong personality, but becomes vulnerable to this madman and unfortunately the only way she can think to get out would be to give everything she’s worked for up, but she doesn’t want him to win and reader’s not only empathize with her, but can certainly understand where she’s coming from. Jock is a wonderful and charming character that reminds readers of a knight in shining armor.

The tension builds as the doctor tries to have things his way, but the romance takes the reader’s breath away and brings tears of happiness to their eyes during a couple of scenes. I love how the author ended the story with a look at the how the couple’s life turned out in the future which in turn teases the reader’s with glimpses of the other books in the series, which unfortunately I have not read… yet.

When I saw this book, I knew I had to read it!! I have enjoyed all of the other books in this series, and when I saw it was starting at the beginning of them all, I was like OMG!! When I started the book I got chills....I tell you the wording and the way the character behaves....chills is all I can say. During my first glimpse of Jock I thought yummy, why do all these Kinncaid men have to be so damn sexy??? I smiled when he gets a glimpse of Kaitlyn and he decides that she is the one he is going to marry one day. I had issues with everyone at this party, they had to see the way the doctor was treating her and yet no one said or did anything on her behalf. Jock at least said a few things with hidden undertones. When next we encounter our main characters they have run into each other again and she is trying to rid herself of the psycho doctor. I loved the time they spent together, it was sweet as well as sexy. It's nice to have romantic sex scenes these days and not just the dirty sex we get so used to reading anymore. When she ends up attacked again by psycho I was ready to kill him myself. The way Jock handles things I thought was just as she describes him. He was like a knight in shining armor, rescuing a damsel in distress. The way you get to watch their love for each other grow is so sweet and the things he does for her shows how much he does care for her. The ending of the book was so incredible, not only do find out what happens to a certain someone, we get to read about the offspring that we already know so much about in current books. Overall I would rate this book at five stars, not only because of the excitement and drama, but because of the emotion the author makes you feel as you read their story unfold.

Wow what a great way for Jaycee Clark to bring her Deadly series full circle by giving long-time fans the Jock and Katie's story! Deadly Beginnings has all the thrill and suspense readers have come to expect and love from Jaycee Clark. The villain is crazy/creepy obsessed with Katie and unwilling to take her desire to leave to heart. While at a fund raiser for the local hospital, Katie meets and becomes enamored with Jock. He's smooth, charming, charismatic, and down right sexy....but Katie doesn't allow herself to dare dream that he is the man for her. After their chance meeting, these two light up the pages and shine as only Jock and Katie can.

I loved learning more about the couple's beginning together and getting a glimpse of how many characteristics that appear in the other books came to light. For example, how Jock nicknamed Kaitlyn, Katie Lass and how the "Kinncaid curse" came about. Even more inspiring was the big reveal at the end of how the family legacy of declaring "this I'll defend" came about. Jock's declaration to Katie at the end was so heart touching and lent so much credibility to the importance of it's use in later books.

It's not always possible for authors to give fans their heart's desire in a book but Clark does just that for me. If you have read the other books in the Deadly series, then you will love going back and discovering the love story of Jock and Katie. If you haven't read any of Jaycee Clark's books, then pick up the first book in the series, Deadly Shadows. I promise you won't be disappointed. I'm giving Deadly Beginnings 4 notes and 3 flames!

ARC given by netgalley for an honest review
Loved the children books. But this book? it is even better. In earlier or sequel books, Jock is portray as a gorilla patriarch, used by his way but has a good heart underneath. In this book, here is where everything began. Jock, a suave millionaire from a wealthy family used to everything on the whim. The lost of his family (parents and siblings) made him a hard man both driven but lost in his cynical ways. In come Kathlyn, a sweet nurse with an ambition to be a great doctor but being ridicule by her family for her ambitious way. Her first portray in the real world away from her family stuck her with a relationship with a surgeon who seems to good to be true but reveal his nefarious way (to be put on mildly) later. In her abuse relationship, she lost her mush needed self esteem and ambition, but lead her to Jock. Protective white knight, with family motto that run in his family, he will risk his life to protect Kathlyn. From the first time he saw her across the ballroom, he knows she is going to be his future wife. But will her ex comes and stole their happiness away?
This is a great book to the core. A family saga where all of it start. The author shows her best in this book. A good plot, a good villain and even better main characters along with the subs. 5 stars all the way and a salute for the author. Although would love to hear story about the Jock's brother and his children, it would made a good book. Hope to hear more soon.

So, prior to picking this book up, I was in b/w books, unable to decide what story to pick up next and also thinking of giving myself a break from (angsty) romance reads. Then I remember I got some Netgalley books to knock down before they expire so I figured, what the hey...

Ms. Clark is a new author for me. This is the story about the patriarch and matriarch of the Kinncaid family from the Deadly series, which I obviously haven't read. I thought it was just as well I read about this couple.

It was set in the late 60's and other than a few references in music and cars here and there, and a few dated opinions, I forget sometimes what time it was set. Whether that's good or not, I think it's personal preference. It didn't make a diff to me.

There's a bit of steam, suspense, and drama. The dialogues b/w Jock (maybe it's just me, I thought that was a cool name, no?) and Kaitie felt really natural and had me smiling most of the time. Kaitie is a pretty modern woman for her time. So is Jock, a pretty modern man, that is, but with that chivalrous attitude that any woman can appreciate, 60's or modern day.

"This I'll defend."

The epilogue was a cute touch.

Overall, a nice read. If you strip away all the angst from the usual romance reads these days and and just want to read for the story, this is what you get. Not too strenuous a read and you get vested enough in it to enjoy it. If my TBR list actually reach a manageable point, I may just look up the rest of the Kinncaids.

This is a prequel of Jaycee Clark's Deadly series based on the Kinkaid family which tells the tale of Jock Kinkaid (the family patriarch) and Kaitlyn O’Reilly (Katie Lass). In 1969, Kaitlyn is a registered nurse who believes she found the man of her dreams in Landon Goldburg, a surgeon who she met at work. Once they become engaged, Landon quickly changes to an abusive and controlling man and Kaitlyn tries to break off the engagement.

Jock can't stop thinking about Kaitlyn after having met her at a gala event even though he knows she is engaged. When a chance encounter finds them at the same place, he realizes that she is in danger and will do anything to protect her.

This was a really great prequel to the series. Filled with suspense, romance, a spunky heroine and we find out how Jock took one look at Katie and instantly realized that she was the one.

"But one glance across a ballroom, one too-short dance for some medical function, and all he'd been able to think about was Katherine-who-shouldn't-be-with-the-doctor."

The love and heat between these two is instantaneous but it's done in a way that it doesn't overpower the rest of the story and we forget that there's other things besides just these two characters getting together. I look forward to reading the rest in the series.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

A suspenseful romance with strong characters, and an interesting story line, that keeps readers involved. The two main characters in this story are very likable and relate-able, with interesting back ground stories, specifically when it comes to the female main character. While the details are very well thought out, this novel gets the feeling of being rushed, as the writer is trying to get in as much information on the female protagonists background, without exploring it too much, making the story feel a little choppy at times.
The main focus of the story – the relationship between the two lovers – is intense, and without giving too much away, complicated by insisting ex-fiance, who like a bad nightmare, just keeps on staying around for another repeat performance. You have to admire his determination, but he does come across as a one dimensional bad guy, which makes you wonder how anyone could fall for him in the first place.
Overall this novel was entertaining and delivered everything a romance novel should, a steamy relationship, hard times, personal growth, and a happy ending. I had fun reading this book, and recommend it highly to those who love this type of suspenseful romance.

Book was exceptional and riveting. The story starts out with an engrossing look at a man ending a woman's life. Obviously she wasn't perfect enough for him, and apparently that's important to the killer. Next up we're at a charity gala, and there's a doctor with a beautiful red headed woman. The red head catches the eye of millionaire Jock Kinncaid, and he asks her for a dance. Jock's pretty smart to realize all is not what it seems with the couple and he can't put her from his mind. Months follow and a chance meeting again develops into something more. The evil doctor though has other plans. Great book, I'm always happy with what Jaycee puts out, but a few things pulled it from a stellar rating. The ending was really chopped up, I felt that it really pulled from the book. I think we should have got instant gratification and I wasn't really sold on that guy owing him one for saving his son. It wasn't quite clear. Thanks netgalley for a great read in exchange for my opinion.

NOW ON A HUNT FOR THE KINNCAID BROTHERS!

There definitely something really good and an advantage being a NetGalley member besides getting books for free. It also opened up a whole new world of great books for me and learn about some series that I never even knew existed until I signed up. Such as this Kinncaid clan, now I'm am so addicted I just have to get all the Deadly series, I swear, even if I have to pay.

Hearing the deranged mind of Kaitlyn's fiancee was creepy and riveting that got me on the edge of my seat. Although it wasn't the focus of the story, it added some twists and turns and made jock shine more as a true "knight and shining armor" in my eyes. He's a true romantic, a protector and a great lover...and I melt each and everytime he says "aah Kaitlyn lass" ...so sweet! Now, I'm off to get the Deadly series and get acquainted with the most talked about, the hot and handsome hunks Kinncaid brothers.

I read this book after reading the deadly series box set.

I loved that it gave you an insight into how Jock and Kaitie got together. Her story is dark - she is engaged to a surgeon who abuses her with his fists.
She manages to free herself from him, or so she thinks...

I did feel that it lacked a little depth and it was a little short and maybe rushed in places. I did really enjoy their story though.

The only thing I did pick up on was in the epilogue and it mentioned about Quinlan and Ella. It mentioned Gracie who is 4 years old. But in order to save Ella's life when 'they' took Ellas baby in book 5 and left her to die, it was stated that after she'd been found she'd needed a hysterectomy. So how can she be pregnant with twins?
If anyone can clear that up for me it's be great :)

I read the Deadly series several years ago, so I was very interested in this one, Deadly Beginnings by Jaycee Clark. The first ones dealt with the Kinncaid Brothers and this one is the parents who you only see glimpses of in the first novels. The parents, Jock and Kaitlyn, have a story that is just as edgy and suspenseful. I liked that this story has a strongly matched pair with hot romantic chemistry. The story line is intense and fast paced with an ex-fiancé who is dangerous and deathly. In the end, he is caught but you get the feeling he is waiting to strike again. I enjoyed this dark suspense read with a HEA. I can easily recommend this book to anyone who enjoys intense romantic stories.

Excellent.
Just my kind of book. Weirdo has the girl, good guy gets the girl and lives happily ever after. This is an excellent one to start with if your like me and haven't read the deadly series, also listed as 0.5 in the series it was released after the other 5. The story centres around Jock Kinncaid and how he saves Kaitlyn O’Reilly and the birth of Aiden ( Aidens story, first 1 of the series https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... )

I must read for romantic thriller lovers.

Just the right amount scary moments and steamy scenes. I'm sure am going to love the rest of the series, I've just started book 1.

I loved Jaycee Clark's other books in the deadly series. They were sexy, fun and full of action with great characters. This book is the story of the Kinncaid Brothers' parents Jock & Katie. Deadly Beginnings felt nearly the opposite of the other Deadly books- not sexy and not fun though there was some action. There was no chemistry between Jock & Katie and the whole story felt flat. I think it felt flat and rushed because this is a short story instead of a full length novel like the other books so there isn't much character development.

Jock and Katie are the cutest couple. Their love story is amazing. Jock has no limits as to what he will do to protect Katie. I mean what woman doesn't dream of having such a man. I love how the Jaycee goes into how their lives turned out in the end. I truly loved the epilogue of this book. I hated Landon and loved when Jock basically ordered him dead. I loved it. Katie although in the begining of the book seemed a little spinless, totally did a 360 and in her own way stood up for what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go for it once she met Jock. Great story Jaycee, I loved the story line and the writing.

Received ARC for review

Another great book by Ms. Clark. I loved getting to read Jock and Kaitlyn/Katie's book. It was just as romantic and suspenseful as their children's books. I think every family should have a motto...This I will defend.

The only thing that bothered me was the actual demise of the bad guy. It was a little vague.

The epilogue was great. I just love a happy ending.

I'm sad to see the last of this side of the family, but maybe Jock's brother and his children could have some stories..hint, hint

I have never read any of Jaycee Clark’s books and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. The story was easy to follow and I love how Jock and Kaitie met and then fell in love. I am not fond of Landon one bit and when you read it you will see why and probably agree with me. Although, the story takes place in the Summer of 1969 I still enjoyed reading it very much. (I’m more of the here and now type of book) Very quick read because it is a novella that takes place before all the rest of the books in the series.

A great start to an equally great series.
Jock and Kaitie's relationship goes together so well, like the whole rest of the series did. I wish there was a little more suspenseful moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. You could feel the love, attraction and spark between these two characters. Enjoyed getting to know both Grandma's and how the family saying started. "This I will always defend."

If you are devotee of the Kincaid 's and the Deadly series, this is a must have to complete your collection. If you are a newcomer, as I am- this will be the catalyst that causes you to go on a buying/reading spree! Just the glimpses I got of the family has intrigued me enough to do just that. So, as a novella it's strong and has a balance between character development and story. I'm hooked.

Although this book started off kind of cheesie, the story line really picked up. Kept on reading as I just couldn't wait to see what happened next. A story of an abusive Dr. trying to make a woman into his perfect woman, a woman who is independent (a nurse) and a very attractive rich man falling in love with a dasmal in distress, it does have a kick to it. As I said, could not put down and definetly can not wait to read the next book in the series, Deadly Shadows....
