This book gave me a catastrophic sodding headache.

BEWARE OF SPOILERS: You have been warned!

This story rubbed me the wrong way something awful.I HATE DOUBLE STANDARDS!

To get my rant you will have to read the novel first, because I won't get into too much detail simply the one that bugged me most:

When Sean cheated on Gia we were all supposed to boo and hiss, right? Especially because he put her trough hell on earth, that lasted four long years.

Yet, when she cheated on Cam, we were supposed to say what exactly? Awww finally they are back together. The one, true, unstoppable love that's bigger then life itself. Well I call bullshit on that one.

No matter who you love, or how hard, nothing gives you the right to treat people around you like shit, especially if those people only cared about you and helped you. Example - I adore my husband! He is the love of MY life! Still I don't find myself walking around, expecting the world to bow down and owe me favors just because i woke up in it. Sure, he isn't the lead singer of Carnage, but he did a Take That tribute once! xD (He was Gary Barlow, so in your face!)

For the first half of the novel I was riveted, until I saw just how Gia treated Cam.

Yes,yes, I know!!! Before you even go down the road 'but Gia told Cam that it will always be Sean for her', please be reminded that Gia also told Cam that as long as they are together they will not fuck other people. The author dragged us trough a gutter of emotional turmoil and angst, just to slap us in the face with the same behavior we were expected to condemn and abhor in the first half of the story.....I don't like being slapped, makes me want to slap back.

Gia is just as bad as Sean. No, scratch that, Sean was high and drunk (not much of an excuse, but there it is), Gia was simply selfish and didn't give a rat's arse about the man that dragged her out of the deep, dark pit Sean tossed her into. The only thing she thought about was herself when she cheated, lied, took Sean back to her place and fucked him again in the bed that was still warm from Cam's bodacious bod.

Love this quote:“I’m sorry Kitten, did I wake you?” For some reason, guilt washes over me as I hear Cam’s voice. I look down at my naked self and think about all the different ways Sean fucked me in my bed last night.

'For some reason'......riiiiiiiiiiiiight, I wonder what that could be, you hypocritical skank.

After Sean broke her in million pieces by cheating on her, you might think that she would have had strong feelings about the subject. Guess that road is a one way street.

The double standard is clearly visible here, Sean did a no-no, and that's bad, but Gia had a valid excuse because the author said that Sean is the love of her life, and not just that Cam isn't pissed,he's so devastated people are afraid he will off himself because of her, cuz she's speshul, and has big tits.

B*tch puhlease!

Cam, my advice to you is GTFO and find someone else, anyone else, I don't care how big her tits are, she a ho! Leave those two assholes - they deserve each other.

WOW. WOW. WOW!!!!!!

What a beautiful, gut-wrenching and epic love story!!

This was a non-stop, edgy, passionate, and emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish and I LOVED IT!!!! It made me feel everything. It consumed me. It took over my life. I couldn't put it down, didn't want to stop reading, and I know that I will never forget this story.

But please note that this is not your typical romance story. It completely shattered all my "book rules", but my love for this story makes it an exception to my rules and this is without a doubt one of my top favorites now. I know I'll be re-reading it for years to come but just please go into it with a very, very open mind.

So, what's the story about? .... I'm going to tell you as little as possible because this is truly the kind of story that you should just experience for yourselves but here's what the story is about:

"I was eleven years old, but I knew without a shadow of a doubt I was staring into the eyes of the boy I was going to love forever."

... then that boy grew up to be a world famous rock star. Carnage tells a story that spans two decades. We see Gia and Sean grow up together and fall in love. True, unchanging, unwavering forever LOVE.

"I'll love you forever G, wherever I am in the world, whatever I'm doing, it will always be you."

I'm torn about how much to tell you about the story. If you genuinely want to know nothing, just skip down the review past the part with all the quotes and just read the stuff I wrote after them but here's a little bit if you want to have an idea of what you're getting into....

This author has an incredible writing style that puts you right into the characters' hearts. I loved the innocence of their teenage love. They were so full of hopes and dreams and plans...

"I'm fifteen years old, he's seventeen and there's nothing we don't know about love and life, we have it all worked out... We have a connection that no one else understands, we know that other people think we're just a couple of kids and we know how wrong they are."

But as Sean's band grows in popularity, things change. To the world, he was a rock god. To her, he was just the boy she'd been in love with since she was a kid. I don't want to give away too much but I want to share this one line because it's just such an epic moment. Here's this guy with a world of fame, women, drugs, and scandals thrown in his face and he gets up on stage and this is what he says...

"All you ladies in the crowd tonight have gotta appreciate the fact that I'm a one woman type of bloke and I love my girl. I've love my girl since the very first day I set eyes on her and back then she was just a girl… but I've had the pleasure these past few years of watching her grow into an absolutely beautiful young woman and as much as I love touring and playing in front of you lot every night, I'm counting down the days till I'm back in England and in her arms."

The intensity of their love for each other doesn't change but there are outside influences that tear them apart and I feel that you should know that a part of this book is a second chance romance. They are torn apart for a few years and even though their love for each other always is the most important thing in their hearts, there is a love triangle of sorts. It's probably not what you're thinking though because it certainly wasn't what I expected. Just like the rest of the book, it was totally unconventional and I honestly thought the way the author portrayed it was brilliant.

"Such sad eyes. Who hurt you, Georgia? Who took the light out of those pretty blue eyes, eh?"

At the lowest point in her life, Cam helps her heal and slowly brings her back to life even knowing that her heart will forever belong to Sean. And I don't want to give things away but I'll just say that please be understanding as you read -- all is not as it seems.

"Cam, I really do like you but you need to know, you need to understand… There's only him, it will always be him, there's no room for anyone else. Wherever we go with this, you need to understand that my heart is sealed and there's only him that's locked inside."

*Sniff*

Love is messy.

My heart hurt so much. It's like the worst kind of romantic pain when the heart has been broken enough to cause emotional devastation but not enough to make you stop loving that person with every fiber of your being. So you love and you hate and you hurt so much because you still love that person with all your heart and always will. It's ugly, raw, and devastating. But it's real. I loved this book because it portrays a kind of "forever love" I believe in so strongly.

Even though there is separation though, it's not forever and we do see an absolutely epic, beautiful reunion, The thing is that even though I loved Cam, Gia's heart belonged to Sean and always would.

"There's no one else. There never was. It's still only ever you."

"… it's suddenly all too much, he cries, I cry, we cling to each other and everything is just as it should be. Sean and Georgia, Georgia and Sean. Us against the world."

Gah. I can't even read that without crying.

There is so much more that happens but I'm going to stop here because I hope I've told you enough to make you want to discover the rest for yourselves. This is the kind of story you just need to be brave about, dive in, and let it take over.

Guys, throughout the entire story, my heart was pounding, fluttering, melting, breaking. There were no lulls. The intensity poured off of every single page. You know that feeling you get where you're almost breathless with how much you care for the story?? Where you have tears in your eyes just because you are feeling so much?? That was what I felt like from start to finish. This story will give you ALL THE FEELS.

I know so many of you are curious about the ending and I refuse to spoil it but I will say this: I can totally understand why someone would hate the ending, and I can also totally understand why readers are completely in love with this book. The story ends at a place that makes perfect sense given the events that occur, but there will be a sequel coming out this summer. Given the events that happened, I think I need the emotional separation between these 2 phases in the story so I don’t regret reading this book now, even though I’ll be looking forward to the sequel. BUT just please remember that this is an atypical romance with an unconventional “romance” ending. It breaks all the rules and is not what we’re used to so just go in with a very open mind. It’s beautiful and devastating at the same time.

This was my status update when I finished the book...

I hate that I loved this book so much. But I did love it even though right now I hate it.

Even though the story was entirely unique, the closest in feeling only that I can come to is actually "Thoughtless" (ish).  The love of this girl's life becomes a rock star and gets sucked into the uglier side of that world: drugs, women, scandals, fame, etc. but they just have this kind of passionate love that defies everything life throws at it and just doesn't let go. Gah, it's very painful and messy and there are elements to this story that would sometimes send me running for the hills in some books but with the way it was written, I just loved it.

LOVED IT.

I also want to note that this book is currently in the process of being professionally edited and a free upgrade will be available as soon as that is complete. Right now, there are a fair number of "errors" in the book: spelling, grammar, misused words, incorrect punctuation etc -- BUT -- I loved the story enough that I totally overlooked this element of it so please don't let it stop you from reading it, just be aware and forgiving as you read. Oh, also there's this one recurring line in the book that I still really don't like but I think it's just a personal thing and it didn't make me love the story any less but I figure in the interest of full honesty, I'll just mention that it exists. (PS: don't wait for the corrected version to start -- just dive in now. It's worth it!)

I finished reading this book a day ago and I'm still sitting here feeling overwhelmed with the emotions from it. It still feels like I literally just finished reading. The kind of emotions it evokes are so raw and powerful that they just don't let go. I love that this book was so different. I love that it broke all the rules. And I love that I loved it despite the fact that it broke all the rules. But most of all, I am so grateful to have experienced this epic love story. I know I'll never forget it. I know I'll re-read it over and over again. And, I know it'll always be in my heart.

5+ STARS!!!
An unconventional, atypical, epic love story.

PS -- Bring tissues.

5***** 'ShOw Us YoUr TiTs' StArS

I'm declaring this book my most favourite book of 2014...'how can you be so sure' I hear you asking ....simple It WAS BRILLIANT.

And it was this one line that done it for me.... Show us your tits?

I swear I'm smiling like a frickin goblin right now thinking about it!!

What I loved most about it was all the emotions it induced in me...I smiled. I smirked. I laughed. I cried. I sobbed. and it smashed my heart. But most of all it had me skipping down memory lane

Hanging from the Monkey bars - flashing my knickers, Monkey Boots, Adam Ant and so many more memories it just felt like Home.

And of course it is literally set in my back yard...yes here in Essex!!

When I started this I was instantly swept away by not only the characters but the descriptions. They were so vivid that I could picture every bit of this amazing love story.

The story centres around the Family of Frank and Bernie and their children - sons Bailey, Lennon, Marley and daughter Georgia Rae.

Georgia Rae, a very young 11 year old girl who meets and falls in love with Sean one of her brothers best friends. They instantly have an undeniable connection at a young age, and develop the most endearing friendship. A friendship that eventually turns into a deep, passionate love as teenagers.

I love him, from the instant I set eyes on him when I was just 11 years old I have loved him and nothing will ever change that, he owns me, he owns my heart

Gia is ballsy and comical, always getting up to mischief and into trouble with her best friend Jimmie.

GIA

Sean is Marley's best friend..and has now been recruited to be lead guitarist and singer in Gia's brothers band - Carnage. Sean is hot, sexy, cheeky, and darn well adorable. I'm smiling as I write this just thinking about him.

SEAN

The intensity of Gia and Sean's love took my breath away at times.

"Georgia Rae, when we made love you used to cry" ... He waits for me to sing my bit. I try to swallow down a sob but I just end up singing through it...

"I said I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die"

As the band becomes more and more successful, and they follow their dreams they become famous Rock Stars with international fame. But along with the fame also comes heartache, loss, betrayal, and secrets that test the strength of the family and more importantly Gia's and Sean's love.

And after such a betrayal that has left her heartbroken and depressed and which Gia finds so hard to get past.....she slowly, very slowly tries to mend which is when Cam comes along - Mr TDH.

CAM

Cam is a sucessfull business man....Tall, Dark, Handsome, and dangerous. God I loved Cam he left me in an orgasmic puddle just listening to his commanding voice he was so swoon worthy. He affectionately called Gia - Kitten.

I loved Sean with all my heart but also I loved Cam.

You have to read this UTTERLY MAGNIFICENT book!! It has left me Overwhelmed, Blown away and.... Speechless mainly because I was crying...boy did I cry... big ugly tears. My poor battered, bruised heart. It took a beating.

Everything was amazing about this book: the characters, the plot and the writing.

I have to say a special thank you to my friend Lucy who recommended this little gem to me - Mawh.

Lesley Jones, you are a brilliant author and I thank you - for taking me on a trip down memory lane...

“I was eleven years old, but I knew without a shadow of a doubt I was staring into the eyes of the boy I was going to love forever"

Sex, drugs, rock-n-roll, mobsters, cheating, psychos, pregnancy, heartbreak, loss, deceptions, etc, etc...

description

Georgia was annoying and mostly unlikable. I spent a majority of the book frustrated with her, yet, every guy she meets falls head over heels in love with her. I don't think she deserved either one, she was a whiny, selfish, hypocrite. What she needed was a good punch in the ovary.

description

The ending was similar to (big spoiler) - And as far as big emotional stuff, it doesn't happen until 97% - by that time, I was just ready for it to be over. Maybe I am a cold hearted bitch. Not sure if I will continue the series, there was just too much going on and it was long.

Book – Carnage Book #1. The Story of Us
Author – Lesley Jones
Publication Date – February 14, 2014
Type – Book #1 of 2
Genre –Romance
Rating – 4 1/2 out of 5 Stars

Book provided by Author (part of Release Blitz) in exchange for an honest review.

Review
I am completely gutted right now….the tears are streaming down my face as I try to put my thoughts on paper and I continue to have that ending play over and over in my heart and in my head.  I was going to wait to do the review until I had a chance to let it all settle down, but I just couldn't – the thoughts are raw, they are fresh and they are heart-felt.

This book had a very slow beginning but don’t give up on it….because once it picks up – the story flows with happiness, heartbreak, angst and true love.  Oh My God….I’m crying again….My heart is torn because half way through – I was so against Sean (see status update) – I wanted G with Cam because what he felt for her was REAL – Now, I’m not saying what Sean felt was any different or less but at that moment – I was Team Cam.

As the story progressed – I fell in love with Sean all over again and wanted a HEA for him and Gia.  I felt it through my soul that they were meant to be together no matter what obstacles life had to throw at them.

Saying that, I honestly believe that Ms. Jones is a very talented author….her ability to make you love a character, hate a character and then fall back in love with that same one over and over again is amazing.  The connection she wrote about between Gia and Sean and G and Cam was above and beyond simple – it was an intricate web of friendship, love, lies, sadness and just plain life.

So, I know you want to ask me “Why not a 5 Star rating?” – Well, some of the story was hard to understand with the dialect and words used overseas that had me scratching my head at times or going back to re-read a paragraph to understand the culture difference of slang.  Another reason was the slow beginning and then it kind of slowed up a bit about 70% in….few grammatical errors but didn’t count that since this was a pre-edited ARC.

Please, please – I beg you Ms. Jones – don’t make me wait long for the 2nd book – I know the ending isn’t really a cliffhanger – it could end this way but don’t leave me in this state of depression! I don’t know what else to say right now – maybe I will add more once the pain in my heart subsides a bit.

Re-Cap
When Georgia was only 11 years old, she met her future husband – the love of her life.  Sean is the lead singer of Carnage but never questions his attraction and love for Gia but being in a band that is rising to the top of the world – he makes a mistake that will cost him his happiness.

Georgia stays in a state of depression and heart-break for 4 years until finally she meets a man who stirs more than just lust – meet Cam.  Kitten and Cam make a go at it and just when it seems that she can put the past hurts behind her…..who does she run into?

Well, my little lovelies….I’m not giving the story away.  Pick up this book and find out for yourself what gutted me, what made me have to walk away for a few hours in order to calm down and what made me ready to go beat down Ms. Jones’ door and hold her hostage till #2 is written!

Wrap-Up
There are no words to describe the impact this story will have on you.  “Feelings” so many feelings wrapped up in a few hundred pages – just waiting to share them with you.

Take the time…curl up with your e-reader and live the life through Georgia’s eyes and heart.

"Romeo ad Juliet, Bonnie and Clyde, Sandy and Danny, even Baby and Jonny, they can't touch us. They couldn't write our story, what we have there aren't even words invented yet to describe it."

This book has young teen sex, cheating, an extremely unlikable heroine, a mushy speaking rockstar, one seriously hot gangster, pregnancies, an evil groupie, tantrums, a ten year time jump, devastating heartbreak and an open ending...

[image error]

It's one of those books for me that you can't say if you liked it or not till the very end and sadly for me it was a not like except for Tiger.

This book has gutted me!!!!

Why....why....why...WHY ME!!!

I can read almost ANYTHING...note that ALMOST back there.....there's only 2 things that bother when reading....

1. Non-hea
2. And what happened in this book!!!!!!

Cheating, triangles, erotica, ya, NA, LGBT, PNR, angst, first third present and sideways tense doesn't bother me.....typos don't even bother me if I like the book.

So with my 2 hard limits I pick up a book with 1 1/2 of my hates in it...REALLY people love to put spoilers in every thing and I thought I did my research well but NO I never saw ANY about this.....by the way BRAVO ON THAT PEOPLE!! I think it's a first:)

I'm not going to tell you what number 2 is because now I don't want to be a spoiler and spoil all the fun for you readers. I will say though that some people may not even care and may enjoy this type of thing. I know of a few books many people read and loved that this happened in it. I myself choose not to read those books because I HATE that type of book...but that's just me.

*Back to the book*
I completely enjoyed all the characters and loved how the book developed...honestly I completely enjoyed this book UNTIL around 90%ish. I'm not going back into that because I've already covered it above. However I DO think a lot of people would love this book. It's based on your first love....that boy you meet when you are young and become innocent friends with and then grow to love in a different way. My husband and I meet as childhood friends so this story line does have a special place in my heart. The characters are young at first, they make mistakes some tragic....some heart breaking....but it shapes you as a person. This aspect of the book I LOVED!!

This book also had ALOT of British slang in it, which is fine, a lot of my friends are British so they will have no problems understanding but as a non Brit I didn't know what many of them meant. A few were easy to figure out so no big deal. This isn't really a major issue and it definitely didn't make me want to stop reading by any means.

So people give Georgia, Maca, Cam and the whole Carnage crew a chance YOU might love it!!!!!

One last note....books like this they stick with you that's one reason I gave it 4 stars because I will be thinking about this for DAYS to come!! Grrrrrrrrrrr!

I don't know why I did that to myself AGAIN, but I went back to this book, and just like the first time - it gave me ALL THE FEELS. 😍😱😋😭

I even cried an ugly baby cry all over again - which totally made my husband worry. Lol 😂

📚 “𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚’𝙨 𝙣𝙤 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙚. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙨. 𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪.” 📚

I still liked the second book less than the first one because it had a lot of boring parts (especially in Australia 🙈) and I also felt like tge h was acting like a spoiled brat (I mean, more than she was in the first book. lol).
Plus... Sean. 💔

And his song, dammit... I LOVE IT!!! 😭😭😭

Did I read the same book as everyone else?? Apparently not...

I knew after reading the first few pages of this book that I wouldn't like it. When a 13 year old boy tells an 11 year old girl "show us your tits". Yeah... Just yeah...not appropriate, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt because of all the praise it has been receiving.

From the raving reviews I read before starting this book, I thought it would be more about the music but it was all about the sex and drugs that come with rock n roll. The music was more of an after thought, much to my disappointment.

Then it went like this:
Listing
Telling
Run on sentences
More listing
Then we come to an actual detailed scene which then leads to either sex or an emotional meltdown (or both)
Telling
Listing
Run on sentences
Detailed scene which leads to sex or meltdown.
And so on...

I thought this would be more about Georgia and Sean's relationship but it was more about her life story, which wasn't all that interesting. She was so wishy washy and such a huge hypocrite that I just couldn't connect with her. Her actions baffled me and on more than one occasion, had me rolling my eyes. This girl needs some serious help. She's a freakin mess.

Sean's character wasn't very well developed. Every scene with him in it was just him reiterating how much he loves Georgia and he'll love her until he dies, blah blah blah. We get it, you love her.

Then enters Cam, who is the most interesting character in the entire book. He's mysterious, he has some demons in his closet and he seems to genuinely care about Georgia for some reason.

This book takes please over the span of 2 decades and I felt like it was so long and drawn out. I felt like some parts were rushed that should have been more detailed. The sex got old really fast and I found myself skipping most of it (especially at the end).

The last 20% was so rushed and I skimmed through most of it (Do you see the pattern here?). It was very repetitive- ate breakfast, had sex. Ate lunch, had sex. Where is the substance?? Then when the big twist happened I didn't even blink. There was no emotion put into that scene. The author could've been writing about the weather for all I know and again, it was rushed.

The ending was awful and I feel like I just wasted my time. I will not be reading the next book that's for sure.

If you are looking for a book with a mediocre plot, 1 dimensional characters, and lots of sex then this is the book for you. I would bet that if all the sex was removed, many of those 5 star reviews would not exist. Personally it's not my cup of tea and I'm actually a little embarrassed that I read it.

Really enjoyed this story, it spans over 20 years, both Sean and Cam were addictive.

This can be read as a stand alone but the author Lesley Jones is now writing book 2

I wish to have a magic way with the words and pour my heart here.
But I definitely don't have .
I can only say that reading this book was painful. I have this massive lump on my throat and I really want to cry.
What the hell I just read?!

2- 2.5 ★'s

Sean and Georgia met when they are thirteen and eleven, respectively, and they both just know the other person is it for them. And throughout the years, their feelings never waver, only getting stronger until something stupid happens!

So again, I was drawn to the book for the emotional aspect and for most of the book, I was okay with how things were progressing. There is drama and some of it was over the top. What I was NOT prepared for was the freaking last chapter...WTH?

It's hard to explain without spoilers but let's just say that the author doesn't pull any punches. Unfortunately, for me, it was just too much and definitely dropped my star rating. Of course, you know exactly why the author did what she did...and there's a second book to prove it. However, I've read the reviews for that book and I just don't know if I can suffer it. Yes, suffer!

But it's taunting me! I have a mighty need to find out what happens but I just don't know. I've never been this torn about a book. (ETA: I caved!!)

description

And the other problem was the run on sentences! Even with the (-) or (;) or (:), my brain just couldn't take it and this is coming from someone who is in love with (...)!

So, there are some good parts. Sean and Georgia are really sweet together and try to figure out how to make things work. It starts out with him being in an up and coming band so there's the whole fame, drugs, and groupies to deal with. I really would've loved Sean's POV.

The "stupid" thing happens and they are apart. Unfortunately, not everyone is in their corner and there are "other" people. Georgia's just happens to be someone more intimate and there were some "oh no" moments.

And that freaking ending...I don't think I will ever get over that. Maybe I just need some time and then I'll see. Just know that if you're interested at all, be prepared to have your heart stomped on!

The next book is The Story of Me and it's already out...thank goodness!

After reading the first few chapters, I didn't think that I was going to get into this book. I told myself I'd read a few more chapters before giving up on it. Man, am I ever glad that I did! This book knocked my socks off!

This is an epic love story that begins when Georgia first meets Sean at age 11. She recognizes him immediately as her soulmate. Over the years, their relationship matures and changes. Carelessness and pride divide the two, but they never quit loving one another.

When Georgia meets Cam, she doesn't foresee the feelings that ensue. With two men that love her wholeheartedly both vying for her affection, she must decide what she really wants. A twist of fate changes everything and Georgia is once again dealt a tragic hand.

This book is heartbreaking and soul-crushing...but I couldn't get enough! I fell in love with both Sean and Cam and cannot wait to see what book 2 has in store for Georgia. I was blown away by this story!

Can't get past the never-ending sentences and paragraphs, rambling and telling, and inconsistent narrative tense. The torrential absence of the craft of writing flows out and over the story, drowning it. DNF

This book was absolutely freaking AMAZING! I just finished it and I am absolutely dumbfounded. I did not see that coming!

Georgia, or Gia, is only 11 when she meets the love of her life, Sean. He sees her pink knickers as she is hanging upside down on the jungle gym. He is instantly smitten. As the years go on, they start to date. They fall in love and Sean is in a band with Georgia's brothers. When they hit the big time, things get hard.

Drugs and alcohol lead to bad choices. Sean was Gia's forever. They are soul mates.

Sean rips her heart out and she doesn't know if she can ever be whole again.

He has no idea how to get her back and she tries desperately to move on. She becomes successful in her own right and even starts to date again. Just when her life was starting to make some sort of sense again, she meets a man who is willing to try and put her pieces back together again. Cam is not a good guy, but he makes sense at the time. But Cam will never be able to compete with Sean.

Sean was always and would forever be "the one". So when he stumbles back into her life again, it almost breaks her in two. She can't do this again. She falls apart and all of the hurt that she bottled up for years comes pouring put.

Sean wants her back, but Cam is not going to let go so easily.

Can anyone ever take the place of your soul mate?

Just when life starts to get back on track and Gia has everything life has to offer within her reach, everything comes to an end.

This book totally wrecked me!

OMG! OMG! I can't take it. This is horrible and I can't even tell you why or I will give away the ending... and you have to read this book! I love this author! This book made me feel so many things. It spans so many years and I was absolutely stuck in this book until the very end. And the end, I so did not see that coming.

The story was told from Georgia's point of view. She is from London so the lingo is a bit different but I adored it. The whole thing was just brilliant. Gia and Sean are absolutely amazing together. I wanted them to get their happily ever after so bad! I found myself rooting for Cam too. He was the tough gangster guy but he was so sweet. The secondary characters were wonderful and there were little bits of humor sprinkled throughout the book.

If you are looking for an epic and tragic love story that will leave you emotionally wrecked in the end, this one is for you. I absolutely adore this kind of book. It made me feel so many things. Even if I wasn't entirely pleased with the ending, I am coming to terms with it. I think I know where book two is going to go. This one ends without a cliffhanger and reading book two is not necessary, but I will most definitely be reading it!

2 stars because I could not stop rolling my eyes while reading but I also could not/would not stop reading this.

The story was good. I liked that most of it was set in the 80s (otherwise I would have had to deduct points for all of the coke snorting). And I liked Cam. Sean was okay but there wasn't as much character development with him. I did not like Georgia. She was wishy washy and hypocritical. I could maybe buy her indecisiveness if she was truly indecive but she was only really into Sean or Cam depending on which one was directly in front of her at any given point. I also did not like the actual writing style. This book could really benefit from a good editor and a couple of proofreaders. The book is one big run-on sentence. Pro tip: Commas are not the same as periods. Periods were invented for a reason. That said, I was into the story and kind of want to see what happens with Cam in the second book. Cam was way more into Georgia than she was into him and he could do a lot better.

Deve esistere un girone all'inferno dove ci sei tu, in lacrime, perchè i libri che aspetti da secoli ti fanno schifo.

EHW. NO.

See ya!

4.5 Heartbreaking Stars

description

Let me start off by saying that it took me about 18% for me to get into this book. It needs a bit of editing but the fantastic and gritty storyline is worth overlooking this.

Set in Essex, England, we are introduced to Georgia and Sean, along with Georgia's brothers and Sean's bandmates, and her best friend Jimmie. It starts off in the 80's and spans 2 decades.

“I was eleven years old, but I knew without a shadow of a doubt I was staring into the eyes of the boy I was going to love forever,”

Sean and Georgia are inseparable, you can feel the love between them dancing off the page. When Carnage become famous and land a record contract their love is tested and this is where the book gets angsty and it really takes off from here.

description

I don't want to spoil anything but I just want to mention Cam, who we are introduced to after shit hits the fan for Sean and Georgia. I loved him and at times I was rooting for him instead of Sean - we do have an element of a triangle so be prepared for some uncomfortable scenes.

“Are you ready for this Kitten? Coz I'm about to spin your world off its axis.”

Carnage was not fluffy, the characters make mistakes and do things that some people find unforgivable but it was real and gritty and passionate and heartbreaking. It reminded me a bit like a Martina Cole novel without the sex crimes. Set in Essex, It was easy to relate to and made me wonder why I don't read more books written by British authors.

It was written as a stand alone but the author has decided to write a book 2, which I am extremely grateful for - I think I would have died had she not decided to expand on Georgia's story.

Fabulous!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I don't know where to start other than saying I just had to wipe myself up off the floor after just finishing that book. This book should come with some type of warning label.....WARNING: You will shed copious amounts of ugly tears when you read this book, so don't do it in public, plus we have provided every reader with a packet of tissues.....Seriously...OMG that just came out of left field and took me by surprise....WOW..... This is such an emotional roller coaster, my heart is in carnage after reading this cry fest. And I guaren-damn-tee you I will never listen to Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet, ever the same way again!!!!!

The synopsis is so correct....'Georgia and Sean's story will stay with you long after you read the final word.'

George as a character was a bit of a roller coaster. I loved her, I hated her, I felt sorry for her, I wanted to slap her, I cried with her, I wanted to be her!!!! Holy wow. I don't know if this author has written anything before this book, but if this is a debut novel, I am in awe at how brilliantly well she has written and described the emotions throughout this book. She has captured the essence of childhood first love, the emotional journey through losing that love and to finally reuniting again. It was magical. It was like watching a really good reality show, because this is what this book is about, its not about the happy ever after romance, this gets into the gritty heart wrenching details of life. Because life is not always fairy tales, not to say that it cant be that, but sometimes you just have to wade through all the shit to get there.

I am not going to tell you about the story, read the synopsis for that, or better yet just read the book. I am just going to spend this review being no. 1 cheer leader for the Lesley Jones fan club.

Sean beautiful Sean, he was so amazing, and there were times I wanted to kick him in his breakfast, but he just loved George to distraction, he knew that the moment he saw her she would be the one, and he did not sway from that path. He veered slightly sideways at one point, but his heart remained true, he survived without George, he took no joy in life, he just waited for the chance. When he got it, OMG.

As you can probably tell from my above rant, I absolutely loved and adored this novel. It was brilliantly written and seriously I have nothing more to say except read it, just read it.

"I was eleven years old, but I knew without a shadow of a doubt I was staring into the eyes of the boy I was going to love forever."
"What we have got, blows the others out of the fuckin water, Romeo and Juliette, Bonnie and Clyde, Sandy and Danny, even Baby and Jonny, they can't touch us, they couldn't write our story, what we have, there aren't even words invented yet to describe it."

5 big bright shiny gold stars for this fantastic book ...

I really am not sure how to write this review! I want to make sure that I do the author and the story justice. It’s probably one of the best stories I’ve read, but it has left me with a gut wrenching book hangover. To say I loved this book would be an understatement and I wanted to give it 10 bright shiny gold stars but I am only allowed to give it 5, so 5 it is. I also want to thank the author for the dark circles under my eyes from not being able to put the kindle down at 2am and having to get up at 7am for work.

Alright let’s get on with the actual review. The story starts out with you meeting Georgia Rae, a very young 11 year old girl who meets and falls in love with Sean an up and coming musician in the rock band Carnage. They have that earth shattering love, the kind of love you have when you meet your true soul mate. He owns her and she owns him, heart, body and soul. Even from a very young age they know they are going to be with each other until the day they die.

This book follows the story of the Georgia and Sean through their adolescence and coming of age and then onwards through their lives. It follows their trials and tribulations, their ups and downs, their good times and bad and everything in between.

Georgia has another love interest during the book and Cam is very swoon worthy. I loved the role Cam played in this book, he loved Georgia so much.

This book is steamy, hot with alpha males. Georgia is a strong willed girl and she turns into a very strong woman. The story is gut wrenchingly good but be prepared the ending is a shocker and I now have the worst book hangover ever, so much so I am going to stalk the author.

Lesley Jones, you are a brilliant author and I look forward to reading more of your creations. Thank you very much for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC and I hope you allow me the great privilege to read for you again.

I loved this book. It was gritty and raw and hard to read at times. I wanted to yell and throw my iPad at the wall for the stupid things that the characters did, but I loved them so much that I just kept having to read more. I felt such a connection to Georgia. She felt like the sister or friend that makes questionable decisions, but you love her anyway and accept her for the stupid stupid person she is.

This book is the perfect example of a writer that gives us infuriating characters that make bad decisions, but we still love them and empathize with them anyway. The characters felt human. I got so invested in Georgia, Sean, Cam and Georgia’s wonderfully crazy family.

Even though this story has rockstars, it felt so authentic. I think no matter what professions Lesley Jones had chosen for her characters, I would have still connected with them and their story.

I loved how the story just sucked me in and flowed beautifully. The conflict never felt contrived. Nothing felt forced.

This isn’t a pretty story. It’s a hard read. If you are the type of reader that needs safe romance with no cheating or love triangles, this book isn’t for you. If you need hearts and flowers, this book isn’t for you. If you need your Love stories tied up with a neat little bow, this book isn’t for you. But if you don’t mind stress and tears, you’ll love this book.

This book made me feel every emotion. The angst was so freaking good! I couldn’t get enough. It gave me the angst that I felt when I read The Opportunist or The Fish Tales.

THIS WHOLE REVIEW HAS SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
(It also has cuss words)

I had high hopes for this book. I will say that I had no clue what it was about since I didn't read the blurb or reviews. I read this solely based on everyone saying how they ugly cried and how much they loved it and were excited for book 2. I'm regretting that I didn't read anything about it in advance.

Let's start with the fact that the H and h met when they were 13 and 11. Somehow, their childlike minds just KNEW that they would never love anyone else, this was the person for them. Okay, I can accept that I guess. Soulmates and all that jazz. Well they start having sex at 14 and 16 (of course the H was whoring around before this point). The boys are in a band that is becoming more and more popular and by the time the H hits 18 they are on a tour with a big band. Let me back track a bit and point out that all these kids have been drinking in bars/clubs and doing drugs like it is no big deal at all that they are KIDS. I understand things were different in the 80s but I have a hard time believing they were THAT different. So anyway, the band hits it big and the boys get caught up in the rockstar life doing drugs, drinking, groupies galore. The h is only 16 at this point and still in school so she isn't on tour with them all the time and the H ends up in a scandal with drugs and a slutty groupie who has apparently been obsessed with him for a couple years. They break up and the world is over forever for this 16 year old girl. She is so miserable that she shuts out all media including music, magazines and TV to avoid seeing anything about him ... And she does this for 4 YEARS. Yeah, I have a hard time believing that a 16 year old girl can do that. I understand that your first love makes a huge impression but COME ON!

At this point, I'm only about 40% into the book. It feels like I've been reading forever and that I've rolled my eyes so much that I've seen the inside of my brain a few times. I'm struggling but I push through because the ending is supposed to be the best part.

So we move on to her dating several men long enough for them to fall in love with her just so she can dump them with no regard to anyone but herself. She meets and starts to have feelings for this other guy who is 10 years her senior and then HE falls in love with her. This girl must have a magical vagina that puts a spell on men. I have yet to see anything about her that is so hard to resist. Well she of course runs into the H for the first time in 4 years and all the time and heartache is magically gone and all is right with the world again. There is some more drama and they get over that and then they go on to live happily together.

Fast forward 10 years and more drama and more detail that you don't need and honestly gets boring and tedious, and the h goes out for girls night out. She runs into the ex and proceeds to cheat on her soulmate without second thought. Hardly hesitates. She PINED for him for 4 years and after 10 years of "bliss" she just spreads her legs and sleeps with her ex... So now we get to read about the guilt she carries and blah blah blah. Oh and she didn't use a condom and isn't on BC at this point so possible baby in the making! (Don't worry, she shoved a sponge in her vagina to scrub the semen out of her after the fact ... Because we all know that shit works in real life) She's a real gem, huh?! Thankfully, no baby and life goes on as normal and she never tells anyone about it (until later when yet another drama happens). So they are looking to buy a house and come to find out "the one" is owned by her ex and according to him he bought it for her 10 years ago when they had only been dating for a few months and hadn't even made any declarations of love to eachother. I'm tellin ya, magical vagina powers...

More drama happens and then more making up. Life is good again. They get pregnant again (first was miscarried) and more drama happens. Then they are all happy and at 92% we find out that life is about to shatter into a million little pieces. How can there be more drama?! Well, then of course there is death. Death of a baby and death of the H. Yeah, after ALL THAT DRAMA he fucking dies.

Yeah, fuck that. Fuck the book. I didn't cry or become overwhelmed with emotions. If anything, I was just glad it was over. The only reason it gets 2 stars is because I didn't DNF it. Though I really wish I had.

4.5 stars

Wow, this won't be much of a review because I honestly don't even know what to say.

The only reason why I didn't give this 5 stars was because I didn't find Georgia all that likable, and had trouble connecting and sympathizing with her. But the story was so compelling & engaging that it didn't matter, this was a heartbreaking page-turner of a story.

I <3 Cam ?

I'll link Carol's excellent review here, this review was the reason why I ended up reading the book.

Oh, holy crap! I can’t remember the last time a book made me cry so hard. I think I was in shock, I ranted at the author’s publicist and then refused resolutely to move onto book 2 even though it’s on my Kindle (although I’ve since relented!) and couldn’t start another. I then picked it up again the next morning and tried to make peace with what had hurt so bad and yet again found myself sobbing painfully into the book. Carnage is it’s name and never was a book so aptly titled and even the cover image of a bleeding heart is highly appropriate. There is apparently a Carnage Support Group on Facebook and, believe me, you’re going to need it but beware – here be spoilers although you won’t find any in this review!! Hold on to your hats for one one heck of an emotional roller coaster epic of a book!

First, a warning. The age of consent in the UK is 16 and you should be aware that this book touches on the issues of drug-use, cheating and under-age sex. It all ramps up the shock factor though and makes this a highly compelling read.

I love ya, Georgia Rae, show us your tits.

The book really is an epic sweeping through a couple of decades and it all starts when Georgia is 11 years old and hanging upside down from a pair of monkey bars when Sean, two years her elder, walks into the garden and admires her pink knickers. From this moment on, Georgia knew Sean was the guy she was going to spend the rest of her life with. BUT they’re very young and he must bide his time. Sean is in a band, the eponymous CARNAGE, with one of Georgia’s brothers and they’re on the brink of making it BIG.

I got a real warm fuzzy glow of a British childhood through rose tinted glasses that so closely mirrors my recollections of my own upbringing – it made me super nostalgic. In fact, I really did read this part of the book with a big old goofy grin on my face, enjoying every second knowing that it was all too idyllic and preparing myself for the proverbial bubble to burst in spectacular fashion. And burst it surely does – as Carnage rocket to stardom when Sean is just 18 and Gia only 16, mistakes are made, resentment is born and festers and they go from blissfully in love to absolutely devastated and lost. The world, it seems, does not want to see Sean and Georgia happy together.

I don’t think it’s fair to reveal any more plot details. All I can say is that I was seriously NOT expecting what happened in this book so my advice is to avoid all spoilers at all costs and go into this one blind and experience it just as the author intends and just allow it to happen. Not many books can shock me these days but this one did – more than once. Twice I found myself yelling NOOOOOO at my Kindle in the back garden to the amusement of my neighbours and this book really does make you ‘feel’ in ways that so many just can’t.

It’s an incredible emotional roller coaster taking you from absolutely ecstatic highs to lows lower than you ever thought possible in romantic fiction. I absolutely fell in love with Sean – the gorgeous Rock God that he is. Despite being blessed with classic good looks and a precocious musical talent, he’s actually very charming and funny and, despite everything that happens here, Georgia is his one true love – no one else will do.

Georgia, for her part, I did find hugely frustrating sometimes. I did understand her pain but there were a couple of moments in the book when I really did want to bitchslap her. But, despite this, she’s very funny and very warm and very possessive of Sean and doesn’t take kindly to groupies trying to get their hands on her boyfriend and she’s definitely got a fiery temper which she finds hard to rein in. I did like her a lot and experienced the whole gamut of emotions right along with her and her pain is stark and palpable as I felt myself dragged right down into the pits of despair right along with her.

The whole story unfurls rather like a Shakespearian tragedy (Hamlet possibly springs to mind) as just about everything that can go wrong, does go wrong as Sean and Georgia and their circle of friends and family seem to lurch from one epic disaster to the next. There’s never a dull moment, that’s for sure. A big shout out must go to all the secondary characters most especially Cam, who has a highly significant role to play and whom I truly also adore. Georgia’s brothers and friends are all also so very vividly drawn and this book warms my English heart as it’s littered with British slang and swearing so familiar to this reviewer! For those that need it, there’s a handy glossary at the beginning explaining the meaning of words such as bollocks and shagging. I had to giggle at the words that I just didn’t realise were peculiar to us Brits!

Deep at the heart of all of this carnage is a very beautiful and touching love story which you can truly believe in. There’s no gloss on this – this is real love in all it’s terrible splendour. These two are in love right from that first moment they first lay eyes on one another and it’s a love that never once releases it’s relentless hold, despite what they have to endure. It’s a book that takes you from the highest highs and sends you crashing down into the abyss – a book that you ‘experience’ rather than read as the whole tale is unleashed upon you by Lesley Jones.

It’s a cracker, for sure, and now that book 2 is already released, my advice would be to read this one and then to move straight on to the second one just for the sake of healing. You’re going to need it. Trust me!

5/6/23 Editing this AGAIN for the 3rd time FOR MY FUTURE SELF,
because I just read the spoilers for the 3rd book where the real truth came out.
*** It contains SPOILERS for all 3 books. ****

- In book 1, the H - cheats (he's been set up, he did snork coke off some girls tits, but he didnt makeout or have sex with Carla the ow, but he never tells the h this, so they broke up).
They get back together 4 years later, even though the h still thinks H cheated.
At the end of the book he dies and in book 2, we find out that H never cheated on the h,
why I gave this book 5 fucking stars.

- In book 3, written from the h's brother /the H's bestfriendss PoV -
we find out that he DID kiss and make out with Carla the OW in book 1,
not just in book 1,
but in book 2 , while he was MARRIED to the h- he almost had sex with Carla again, the same girl from book1! And he only stopped because the brother walked in on him.

So he cheated on the h not just once, BUT TWICE
(that the brother knows off..but if he can cheat this many times, who knows what he did during those tours without the h.
(once a cheater, always a cheater)

Cheating #2 details:
The h had a miscarriage in book 2, and she shut him out, so he made out - kissing etc - with Carla , but didnt have sex with her (because her brother caught them).
Her BROTHER, whos also the H's BFF, knew it all along, but never told her the H cheated on her more than once/

"I disliked Marley (h's brother) even more after reading this one.
How can you encourage your BFF to cheat on your sister and never tell anyone, and then catch him cheating and not tell her? Despicable"

- THEN in book 4 in the series- a book about letters the dead H wrote -
a reader said this in her review,"In her letter she made it seem like her and Sean had a whole emotional affair while Georgia was grieving and shutting Sean out. However, Sean and Marley made it seem like it was nothing and Sean only saw her that one time when Marley caught them. Was Carla his Cam in a sense? Did Carla mean more than most of the book tried to make it seem? "

Maybe so, since Carla kept popping up in every book?
So maybe there was an emotional cheating happening throughout book 2. And this Carla who kept appearing in this series was Sean's Cam.

So he really was a fucking cheater all along.
This is why I HATE reading incomplete trilogies, because the author can reverse HEAs or undo all the good feelings you had about a previous book.
SIGH

below was my original review, which I wont touch.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hated this book at first, but I’m changing my rating to 4 stars, because I couldn’t forget the book even days later, and ended up reading book 2. If you love soapy-reads, angst, tear jerkers, and love triangles, I do recommend you trying this out.
Fore safety readers, this series isn’t safe. There is lots of cheating and ow om drama. If you loved The book Thoughtless you will LOVE this story.
Big spoilers for book 1 and book 2.
Safety info
- the h is a beautiful spoiled, immature brat with big tits. I did like that the h had big boobs for once, since every h these days have small boobs. Good thing too since the H loved massive boobs on the women he messed around with.
- The H1- Sean - cheats on the h, which caused angst and crazy drama. In book 2, we find out that he never cheated. It was just a misunderstanding, so here’s a book based on just a misunderstanding…Sigh…
Cheating scene isn’t shown.
And when she forgives him in this book, she still thinks he cheated, they never discuss it at all. It’s frustrating because it’s just swept under the rug and I felt like she just blamed the ow, so she could take him back.
- they’re apart for 4 yrs and he becomes a manwhore. She’s celibate for 3 yrs then sleeps around and starts a relationship with Cam H2.
- the h cheats on Cam with Sean.
Then leaves Cam and marries Sean.
- then the h cheats on Sean with Cam.🤷🏻‍♀️
- Sean and her almost 9 month old baby dies at the end of the book.
Book 2
- Cam becomes the H that h has a HEA with, but he cheats on her, and also has a baby with the ow2.
- h is a needy, pushover doormat in book 2.. Forgives instantly. As much as I hated her in book 1, I prefer bitchy h to a doormat h.
Awesome book, great story ...
This is one hell of a story with fantastic character development and a book that will leave you thinking about it for days afterwards.
Georgia meets Sean when she is eleven years old and their romance begins. She knows straight away that Sean is her one true love and Sean is equally as smitten. Sean is the lead singer in the rock band Carnage and this story follows their relationship and the road to fame for Sean and the members of Carnage.
I congratulate Lesley Jones on a well written story and I look forward to reading more of her work. I also look forward to reading the next book in this series.
4.5 Heart Twisting Stars
description
Wow what an absolutely ensnaring passionate and bloody heart breaking Novel!
Georgia is only eleven when she is introduced to the love of her life Sean.
Sean was introduced to Georgia, his hearts only one, when he was thirteen!
Their story is sweet and tender as teenagers. They face heartbreak and tears. He finds fame, she finds her path running a business with her mother.
Their story as adults,spanning over two decades, is full of love, sadness, loneliness and truly sad moments.
There is Georgia & Sean.
There is Georgia & Cam.
There is Sean & Georgia.
Life reaches a point where they have endured so much the love around them is so very strong, it will reach out and engulf you!
“I’ll love you forever G, wherever I am in the world, whatever I’m doing, it will always be you, I’m yours, for as long as you want me, for as long as I’m good for you, I’m all yours.”
