Edward Wyeth, the Dark Duke of Moncrieff’s life has been turned on its end. His well-ordered home has been invaded. By destitute relatives. From Scotland. How on earth can he write Lord Hedon’s salacious novels with hellions battling in the garden and starting fires in the library? But with the onslaught has come a delicious diversion. His cousin’s companion, the surprisingly intriguing Kaitlin MacAllister. He is determined to seduce her. Using her desperate need for funds and her talents as an artist, he convinces her to draw naughty pictures for his naughtier books…and he draws her into his decadent web.
But Kaitlin has a secret. She’s fled Scotland—and a very determined betrothed. When Edward’s cousin is kidnapped and held in her stead, Kaitlin is honor bound to return to her homeland and rescue her—much to Edward’s chagrin.
Because suddenly he can’t bear the thought of Kaitlin marrying another man. He can’t bear the thought of losing her at all.

Should I read in order? I think you could pick this one up alone without issue, but you do get some character overlap and get to meet Edward in book 1 of the series.
Basic plot: Edward is intrigued by Kaitlin – and as she is a guest along with his relatives, it leaves room for naughty chess bargains, naughty books, naughty artwork…..
Give this a try if you want: - historical romance - English hero / Scottish heroine - author hero - artist heroine - former soldier hero - chess bargains for kisses… - naughty books and naughty artwork - secret identity - higher steam – 4 full scenes in a shorter page count
Ages: - didn’t catch them
First line: Edward, Duke of Moncrieff, stared at the fire crackling in the hearth.
My thoughts: I really liked the set up of this one but honestly I was a touch disappointed! I don’t know what happened but I think I just loved Edward so, so much as a side character in book 1, I was expecting something more/different from his story.
Overall I liked both mains, I liked the reading naughty books together and drawing naughty pictures. But the relatives and number of side characters maybe I found a bit distracting? And the way the heroine’s past kind of took over. I don’t know I definitely liked this book and didn’t hate it or anything but I was just hoping for maybe a different plot or more of Edwards playfulness that we saw in book 1.
Few random reading stats for this author # of books read: 2 Average rating from me: 4.5 stars Favorite book: Dark Fancy
Content warnings: These should be taken as a minimum of what to expect. It’s very possible I have missed some.

Full break down on what my ratings above mean here: Overall: How I felt about it everything considered! Readability: How ‘readable’ was the book? Did I fly through it? Did I have to tell myself to pick it back up repeatedly? Were any passages confusing? (I will probably score like (1) is literally unreadable due to formatting/typing errors, etc (2) There were lots of errors that made it difficult to read OR It was extremely confusing and I had to reread passages to make sense of it OR I disliked it so much I had to bribe myself to keep reading (3) I didn’t really want to keep reading and would have preferred to abandon the read and start something else OR some minor continuity issues/confusion (4) I liked it fine, maybe a minor error or 2. I was happy to pick it up when I had time. (5) I never wanted to put this down. I thought about it when I wasn’t reading it. I hid in the bathroom from my kids to read. I threw inappropriate food at my children for dinner so I could read instead.) Feels: Totally subjective to each person but did the book give me any tingles? Any butterflies? Did it rip my heart out (in a good way?) Emotional depth: How well do I feel I know the characters at the end? How much did I feel their emotions throughout the story? Sexual tension: Again, subjective, but how strong was the wanting and longing to me between the characters? A book might have strong sexual tension without a single touch. Romance: Was there romance? Did romantic things happen? This can be actions/words/thoughts of the characters and again is subjective. Sensuality: This is how the intimate scenes are written. Kisses and sexual scenes – how sensual were they? Were they on the mechanical side? Was there emotional pull tied in? Were the details explicit or flowery? These are subjective but generally (1) too short to get a good judgment (2) not all what I'm looking for - very vague or flowery prose (3) either not explicit enough or not enough emotional pull (too mechanical/physically descriptive without the emotions) (4) what I love in a scene (5) absolute perfection - perfect balance of emotional longing and explicit descriptions Sex Scene Length: How long the bedroom scenes are (generally (1) is 1-3 sentences (2) is a few paragraphs to a page-ish (3) is about average, a few pages (4) more well developed scenes, quite a few pages with descriptions (5) the majority of the book takes place in the bedroom. This is always hard to tell for me on audio! Steam Scale: Generally, each flame is a scene. If scenes are super close together I sometimes combine them. If a scene is super short or so vague I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t count it. There’s some levels of grey but generally the number of flames is how many sex scenes there are (I max out at 5 so I’ll put a + after if there’s more than that)
I like that the non-virgin heroine doesn't shy away from intimacy with the hero. There's some spanking and some of the dialogue reminded me of 50 Shades of Grey.
If you haven’t dipped your toes into the joy of Sabrina York’s regency-era erotic romances, and you want a little more than just a blushing virginal bride, this is the series that you will need to dive into. And, BONUS points, while there are some characters that appear and are mentioned in each of the three books, you do not have to read them in any particular order. You just will want to read them.
Edward is the Dark Duke, a bored lord with a penchant for BDSM and a side-hobby of penning his fancies under the pseudonym Lord Hedon. His life at the moment is anything but boring: he has been asked to provide a season for a cousin, and she has arrived with his aunt, a companion and her brothers in tow.
Kaitlin has run from Scotland with her best friend Violet, and is posing as her companion as she seeks opportunities to earn money and pay off her brother’s debts. What Edward doesn’t realize is that Kaitlin is no innocent, and that passions burn deep inside her heart.
I adored Kaitlin: her mix of brains, courage and a devilish sense of humor combine to make a heroine who is engrossed in facing new experiences head on, and taking responsibility for her choices. Edward, despite his reputation for being a debaucher and rake has a sense of honor and family that even he didn’t realize was there until he was roped into obliging Violet with a season. While we see both characters develop and their attraction grow as their escapades are more frequent, Edward’s growth was a surprise to him but not to the reader. In fact, Edward is often the last to realize many things: believing that he lost the one woman he could love to his friend James, and not realizing why he couldn’t stop thinking about Kaitlin, and even not realizing that a disguise would never fool Kaitlin: introspection is not Edward’s forte.
So many elements are in play for this story: the clever interruptions from family members, Kaitlin’s sacrifice of herself for her friend, and her decision to have some fun with the dreaded chore by making those around her dance to her tune, even the burgeoning relationship between Edward and Kaitlin not to mention Edward’s own realizations about the emptiness of his life all fall into place like pieces of a puzzle, each fitting neatly. The steamy scenes are that and then some, and pack a double whammy – Kaitlin’s awakening to the pleasures to be found with a man, and with her own self are erotic and detailed with squirm inducing moments for even the more jaded reader.
So what are you waiting for? Go grab this book and start your new addiction.
I received an eBook copy from the publisher for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
I am not normally a fan of BDSM but wow, just WOW! Great book. But you want to know what I liked best about this book? While the dark duke likes his sex with a bit of kink, you could tell he was a good guy by the things he did not do. He has a house full of young cousins making mayhem in his prior bachelor pad. And while he grouses and hides, he does nothing to hurt those boys in any way. He does not shout, he does not spank the boys, he lets them have their fun. I liked the dark duke right from the git go.
Dark Duke is the 3rd book of the Noble Passions series. I have not read the first 2 books in this series, so I was a little afraid it would affect my experience with this book. Boy, was I wrong. On top of that, I'm not typically a fan of historical books. Sabrina has now made me a lover of her historicals, at the very least. This book was amazing! I couldn't get enough of it and was so disappointed when I got to the last page.
Edward Wyeth is known as the dark Duke. His exploits are famous throughout the ton. Why shouldn't he enjoy his life? He's rich, titled and single - no one is getting hurt. Strangely, it's all starting to lose it's sparkle and appeal. A different conquest every night is not nearly as fun and his writing is suffering terribly. It seems everything is changing. Somehow his cousins have taken over his life and home. The older cousins aren't a problem, but the younger ones are hellions. He can't step out of his chambers without tripping over something or finding his stuff destroyed. It's all about more than he can take, but then everything changes. He begins to notice his cousin's companion. She's definitely not the severe, drab woman that he originally thought her to be. Now, all is looking up. He feels passion again, he can't write fast enough, and he is even finding joy in the hellions that have taken over his life.
Kaitlyn is in hiding. What better way to hide than pose as her best friend's companion? When she finds herself alone in the library with Edward she has no idea how much her life is going to change. He makes her feel things that she definitely should not be feeling. She let herself get caught up before in these feelings and it ruined her life. She's a fallen woman, after all and now on the run as a result of it. But, the feelings the Dark Duke makes her feel are nothing that she has ever felt before and under his direction she's about to feel so much more.
I am such a fan of Sabrina York's writing. Not only does she write intelligently, but there is humor and witty conversation. I swear one second I'm fanning myself and checking my Kindle for scorch marks and the next I'm laughing out loud. I can not wait to read Violet's story. I have a feeling it's going to be quite the read.
I would love it if these books were full-length novels. I am enjoying all of the characters... dark nobility and saucy heroines are my favorite historical character types. So I would love it if these stories had more character development and back story. It's hard to jam those aspects and building sexual tension into a novella-length story, you kinda got get to it fast and dirty like... and that is just what Sabrina York does here.
We met Edward Wyeth, the Duke of Moncrieff in Dark Fancy where he helped the Earl of Darlington with his recalcitrant fiancee. Edward (a/k/a the Dark Duke) has a debauched history full of orgies and wicked deeds, but now he finds himself jealous of James (Darlington) and his wife, Helena. Edward's life has also been turned topsy turvy when he agreed to take in his six orphaned cousins, including his cousin Violet's companion. As an author of naughty novels under the pen name Lord Hedon, Edward finds himself lacking inspiration.
Kaitlin McCallum, daughter of an earl, fled Scotland to avoid an unwanted marriage. Rather than suffer at the hands of the McCloud, she goes in hiding as Violet's companion. Residing in the Dark Duke's abode creates all new temptations for Kaitlin, and she doesn't resist too hard (or at all). Once her curiosity is peaked by Lord Hedon's books, Kaitlin becomes a wanton at the mercy of the duke's dark desires.
So this story was pretty much sex over substance as well... but it was enjoyable and entertaining. If you like a little Fifty Shades with your historical reading, you will enjoy this series. It offers up deliciously naughty heroes and curious heroines willing to be tutored in the ways of pleasure. They are quick and light reads, perfect for when you have a little time to kill... or maybe before bed if you need to get your motor running. ;P
3.5 stars / 4 flames. Full review posted at Bambi Unbridled.
"Lord love a duck. It was fantastic." I'm head over heals in luv with this series! Just when I think it couldn't get any better, I go and read Edward's story! Historical settings, funny dialogue, and smokin' hawt sex! Oh yeah!!! If you've not read any of Sabrina York's books, stop what you are doing and go one click this one! You will be hooked and immediately run and get the rest in the series!!
I read this yesterday and I’ve already forgotten the plot. The smutty scenes were a very nice change especially in the HR genre. Definitely look at TW/CW before reading. The beginning of the book made me a bit wary and some of the plot twists did little to move the story along and felt kinda shoehorned. The strength of the heroine was nice and the shared passion between the hero and heroine was felt. The rest of the book can go away.
She has done it again! HRH Sabrina York has penned a HOT and wonderfully entertaining story. Meet Edward Wyeth, Duke of Moncieff, a delightful degenerate who has earned the nick name Dark Duke. The only person who may take more delight in debauching decent damsels would be his non de plume, hedonistic Lord Hedon. I absolutely loved having an erotic author write a story featuring an author of erotica! But as we all know, erotica, written with men in mind as the primary readers, needs to have pictures. Being a historical piece, an illustrator is needed. Lord Hedon finds an illustrator in Kaitlin MacAllister. Not only is she a talented artist, she doesn’t mind a little-um-research. OMG! This was some hot research! As things heat up between this wonderfully hot and adventurous couple, the story takes some surprising twists and turns with the extended family, leading to a rush to Scotland on a rescue mission. This was an amazingly entertaining romp that kept me reading straight through until the end and left me wanting more. Although this was a complete story with the featured couple finding their HEA, I was left with wanting more about other characters. I will be looking for the next story in this series with great anticipation. Very nicely done Ms York!
Dark Duke is the second erotic story in the Noble Passions series. It’s all about dark nobility and a saucy Heroine kind of historical romance. It’s well-paced, unpredictable, seductive, and not for the prudish reader. There are more elements of dominating intimate play in this second book. With props.
Dark Fancy: 4 stars: James & Helena (I especially liked the story) Dark Duke: 4+ stars: Edward & Kaitlin (I especially liked the flirty banter)
Edward Wyeth, Duke of Moncrieff, has had his home invaded by destitute relatives from Scotland. Unfortunately, this situation is detrimental to his job as an author of naughty novels. Edward finds himself lacking inspiration. Known as a notorious rake, he seems an unflappable Hero who likes to have his way. He has a bit of humour about him too which is intriguing.
Kaitlin MacAllister, the daughter of an earl, has fled Scotland as a companion. Avoiding an unwanted betrothal, she is the type of Heroine who tiptoes through a dark house with a dirk hidden in her nightclothes. Formidable. Kaitlin speaks with a lilting brogue accent, has red hair, and a stubborn resistance to being easily led. She has a spark and a sense of humour. I liked it when she belched after downing a dram of whisky.
Edward and Kaitlin’s introduction happens in a library, late at night. It’s flirty, combative, and puts Edward off-kilter. Which is the hook he needs considering his low-level dissatisfaction in life. Kaitlin stands up to his manipulative plays for intimacy, although she is very much intrigued and willing to interact with him. I liked their connection because it’s honest, playful, and mature.
I highly recommend this book. I recommend this erotic series.
I read Dark Fancy years ago, and I honestly never intended to come back to the series. That one fell a bit flat for me. I didn't like the characters, didn't like the story. So I figured the rest of the series would be the same.
This book was just stellar. It had a completely different feel from the first. The MCs were wonderful and their relationship building was spot on. There are so many great moments in here. Sure, lots of steam, but also cute, funny bits between the MCs. The plot was well done and actual interesting things happened.
Super enjoyed it. So glad I came back and tried again. Will definitely continue with the series now. I have to know what happens to Violet!
This was a pretty good second book in the series. I am still looking forward to the other books in the series but I feel as though it's going to go down a different route to what I originally thought.
The main characters are Edward and Kaitlin. Edward is the notorious womaniser we met briefly towards the end of the previous book in the series. Kaitlin is his cousin's friend who is living with him. They meet in the library late one evening and try to fight their undeniable attraction for each other but Kaitlin is due to be married to another and that complicates things.
There are some secondary characters but I think they will get their own books.
The storyline is vastly different to the first book in the series but it is just as enojyable. The pacing is also good. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Totally Engrossing! Edward Wyeth, the Dark Duke of Moncrieff is the Noble who is passionately besotted in a most delightful way and the only thing he can do is follow his heart. Kaitlin is the innocent young lady who unknowingly lights his fire and together they tell a story which kept me wanting to find out more. They are two perfectly matched characters who had me totally engrossed and happy to take time off from the things I should have been attending to and I'm not sorry that I have to play 'catch-up' now. It was worth it!
Edward’s life is upended when 6 hellions, his cousin, her companion, and his aunt arrive on his doorstep. His first instinct is to hide, and who can blame him, but when he is forced to remain home, he finds the family he didn’t realize he was missing. And Kaitlin, his cousin’s companion, far more intriguing than he originally thought. A very fun book with very sexy scenes and a good love story.
This second book in Sabrina York's Noble Passions series focused on the Duke of Moncrieff who we met in book one. I had big expectations for this interesting character. While I found his story entertaining, I don't think he was quite as dark and complex as I had hoped. Still the story was steamy, erotic and engaging. On to book 3.
My kind of historical romance, hot & steamy with sex that comes off the pages. WOW. This is my second book by Ms. York and thus far they both have been great, but this one is by far the best. Keep them coming, and yes, pun is intended.
I found the first book in this series, Dark Fancy, on Negalley and received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Having honestly loved it, I immediately bought the rest of the series.
This book is the second installment and revolves around the Dark Duke, the Duke of Moncrieff, whom we briefly meet at the end of Dark Fancy, and his cousin Violet’s friend, Kaitlin.
Right there, that should tell you that this book spends a LOT of time on plot, character development, and on setting up the rest of the books in the series. Keep in mind, it is only about 160 pages long, so, that is a lot of development in a very short book. Though, much like in Dark Fancy, the relationship does not feel rushed or forced.
But, If you’re reading this series because of the characters, want to see how the family interacts and engages each other, or to find out what the six Wyeth boys get into…by all means keep reading the series. If you’re reading this for the schmexy times and don’t give a fig about the character development, you should skip straight from Dark Fancy straight to Folly. Because, Lordy, you’re gonna get a lot of character development, plot twists, and a mildly shaky timeline if you read the series straight through.
That isn’t to say this particular book doesn’t have its erotic moments. The scenes of the characters reading the books while you, the reader, reads the book, is very meta and will test how well the reader resists the power of suggestion. They were very well done.
Overall, I found this book to be a fun and flirty romp, but with far more plot and character development than I was expecting based on the first book in the series.
“Dark Duke” by Sabrina York is a delicious erotic historical romance that spotlights Edward Wyeth, the Duke of Moncrieff, as his world is turned upside-down by his visitors, particularly the companion who accompanies his cousin Violet, Kaitlin MacAllister. Edward’s secret vocation requires a very open-minded person to accept and it never occurs to him that the mousy Scot, Kaitlin, has her own secrets that will make her a perfect foil for him, if only he can get past her formidable barriers. He undertakes to educate her in sensual matters, but never expects that the pupil will surpass his expectations, with a surprising aid that he doesn’t expect.
The wonderful combination of heat and humor in this story reminds me of why I enjoy this author’s works so much. There are intriguing twists on some of the conventions of historical romances combined with a intense sensuality that is offset by the mischievous antics of the hellraisers who have invaded the Duke’s life. I love that he grows throughout the story and embraces the people who have turned his life upside down, despite a series of unexpected developments. Things got a little murky for me toward the end as the madcap action intensified but I suspect that illumination will be provided in a subsequent story and I can’t wait to read more in this series.
Oh my gosh was this a great story. I knew from book 1 Dark Fancy, that this was going to be a great story. It introduced Edward, the Dark Duke to the series and it did not disappoint me.
Edward is quite familiar with the ladies and has a dark side to himself that is brought up in the story. Due to the death of their parents he is made guardian for 6 children even though some are in their teens. As the children are living in the home, he likes to disappear to a brothel to escape. So one evening when he comes home he meets Kaitlin, the companion to Violet the eldest female of his wards.
Kaitlin takes Edward and turns his world on its end. She is beautiful, and sassy and a crazy knack for drawing. When the relationship gets steamy, Kaitlin learns of Edwards side job which is writing adult books and he asks her to draw for him.
What a great story that continues. What secret part of her past does Kaitlin hold from Edward? Can Edward fix this or will Kaitlin marry who she is betrothed to? Oh it's such a great story. Must share this one.
I have enjoyed some of Sabrina York's other books, and thought that the Dark Duke looked like it might be good, and it was. The entire story is just one big ball of cotton candy.
Kaitlin is such an appealing heroine. She's smart, funny, and no-nonsense. Edward is stuffy, arrogant, but very hot. There's no angst, drama, or tears...just lots of steamy sex and two people who discover that they're great together.
Yes, it's supposed to be a HR...and yes...it's easy to nitpick about Kaitlin's "Sex and the City" sensibilities...but don't bother, it takes all the fun out of the story.
I wonder if York will write a sequel about Ewan and Violet.
So...3 stars for a book that doesn't take itself too seriously.
This series just keeps getting better and better. Edward is bored with his daily routine and also a bit jealous of his friend who found love. Due to the untimely death of his uncle, his cousins have moved in and turned his home into mayhem. Kaitlin is running from an arranged marriage and poses as her best friend companion. Edward is drawn to her and one thing leds to another, will he realize before it's too late that Kaitlin completes him or will her betrothed demand retribution. Got this book on KU and I was blown away by how the author incorporates humor into the storyline, can't wait to read the rest of the series.
I enjoyed reading Edward's and Kaitlin's story. Edward at times was definitely too much at times. It made me laugh at how he got jealous at himself where Kaitlin is concerned. They work well together after he discovers her drawings and she finds out that the books she has been secretly reading needs a new illustrator. I never did understand why he never asked how she became a fallen woman, especially after he finds out her station in life. When she goes back to her betrothed, some interesting things happen that have me curious for the next book. The only thing I did not like about this book was the ending because it just ends and didn't satisfy me at all.
So normally I don't read series out of order but this time I did. And I have to say I did not like this one as much as I like the fourth book in the series even though there was something in that book that upset me greatly. BDSM is not anywhere near my thing and this one had too much of it in the sex scenes to hold my interest. However I am curious enough about book 5 to pick it up. And I did not hate this book. It had plot, despite the sex, and I really did enjoy the characters. For me, it was just okay though.
Wow, this was a steamy one! The Dark Duke and Kaitlin were quite a pair, so steamy from the moment they were alone and ratcheted it up from there. Then Kaitlin's past came back to haunt her. Will the Duke be able to save her or has he lost her for good? This was a great read. Kaitlin and the Duke are super entertaining. I would recommend this book who enjoys fun and a little dark romance. Sabrina York writes engaging characters and fun storylines that are hard to put down. Easy read for an afternoon.
Dark Duke is the third book in Sabrina York’s Noble Passions series. I hadn’t read any of the previous books when I started this one but I don’t feel like I missed out on anything by reading it as a stand-alone. Ms. York knows how to write a story that draws the reader in with likable characters, an interesting plot and steamy romance.
I read this in one nite now I have book 3 but I dare not read it now for I have to work tomorrow and I know if I start I will not want to stop. Your books are like an addition. Lady you can tell a story and I won't stop until I seek rehabilitation and I have no intention of that so I guess I am good and hooked. You are amazing. May your guardian Angel continue to bless you with success. D.H. from New York City p.s. Thanks
