Prayers Are Powerful

Prayer changes me. When I pray consistently to God something changes within me. And it can change you too. However, sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the busyness of life and not take the time to pray. This book can help you form a habit of coming to God everyday in prayer.

21 Days to a New Habit of Prayer

They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit. And so I have shared 21 prayers of faith with you to help you form a habit of prayer in your life. I have taken key truths from scripture and reworded them into prayers of faith. Combining prayer with God's Word is powerful. I have experienced this in my own life and now want to share it with you.

I pray that these prayers help you to overcome fear and doubt through applying the power of prayer and God's Word to your life.

I have to admit that even though I love the Lord and desire to do all He entrusts me to do, that I still struggle with faith at times. Maturing in Christ often presents new challenges the Lord knows will come our way. Whether you are a new Christian or have served the Lord for many years, this book will help to further your faith walk through the practical application that Biblical characters portrayed such as David, Abraham, Esther, and even Jesus Himself to name a few.

Author Shelley Hitz knows that combining prayer with God's Word is a catalyst for positive change. As she uses the examples found in Scripture you will learn to pray God's word in a powerful way. By helping to solidify your faith you will gain strength to do the following:
-Follow God's directive even when it does not make sense.
-Trust God when the future is uncertain
-Keep your eyes fixed on the Lord not circumstances
-Press through to God knowing He has the power to heal.
-Not condemn yourself but come to the Lord knowing He is the author and perfecter of our faith.

The Scriptures at the end of each day help cement the faith concept. By understanding Biblical characters were human like us, it further gave me incentive to approach future situations with greater trust. I recommend this resource and also recommend looking into several other books both Shelley and CJ Hitz have out including audio books.
This book was given as a gift in exchange for a fair, honest review.

21 Prayers of Faith: Overcoming Fear and Doubt Through the Power of Prayer and God’s Word.
By Shelley Hitz
Published by Body and Soul Publishing

“They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit. And so I have shared 21 prayers of faith with you to help you form a habit of prayer in your life.” from the introduction

Shelley Hitz has added to her collection of guides and devotionals with this short book. Each day introduces a new Bible character who, in spite of trials and tribulations, was blessed because of faith. We can all learn from these examples.
As someone who was raised in the Christian life and who has been praying for many years, I wondered what, if anything, this guide could do for me. I read it several times each time trying to imagine myself in a different spot in my faith walk.
Reading as a mature Christian, I found the work somewhat simplistic. Nowhere did I find mention of the struggles that might have gone on in the lives of those used as examples. Did none of them struggle with God’s will before bowing to it? However, the truths of trusting in God and living by faith did come through loud and clear.
Then I tried reading it from the perspective of a new Christian. The same question came to mind. In this case, it is a more impelling question because a new Christian may not have experienced enough of God’s goodness and faithfulness to trust as completely as the characters used in the prayers.
The stated purpose of the guide is to help form the habit of praying scripture and not necessarily to build faith. That is done in two of her other books, 21 Stories of Faith and 21 Days of Faith Challenge. However, a fulfilling prayer life naturally leads to a more faith filled life which leads to a still better prayer life. You cannot lose.
I appreciate the time Shelley Hitz had put into this guide. The pictures and scriptures used are relevant and can be applied to all our lives. As someone who knows Scripture fairly well, I know the stories Shelley used. A new Christian might not know these stories as well. In each case the Scriptures are quoted and referred to. I would have liked to see them at the beginning just to put the prayers into the perspective of the story.
I can see where this guide would help a new Christian build a prayer life.
I was provided this book by Body and Soul Publishing in exchange for my review.

This is a nice companion to the author's 21 Days of Faith Challenge. The author offers prayers based on the stories of people who showed exemplary faith or even struggled with faith. Each prayer is followed by the scripture passage from which the story comes and other pertinent scriptures. I recommend this book for those who are taking the 21 Days of Faith Challenge or those who just want to pray through the scriptures.

Inspired to Go Deeper in Prayer and God's Word

I read this book with my 13 year-old grandson. It gave us so much to discuss and reflect on the Word of God and the power of prayer. We could have easily read more, it was very well-written and inspiring.

My favorite part of this book was the way it touched on well-known stories of the Bible, such as Noah, Abraham, David and Goliath, and Joshua and Caleb. Because it follows the stories in order, it almost feels like a quick overview of the entire Bible. However, it isn’t just based on people and stories of the Bible, this book also offers prayers based on topics such as Love, Faith, and pleasing God.

I’ve read a lot of different devotional books, each offering something different. What this one offers is a very user friendly way of facilitating daily prayer, either continuing it as a habit, or helping readers make it a habit. It’s perfect for fitting into a busy schedule, because the readings are quite short, but to the point. In addition to a prayer, each day offers verses related to the topic and additional reading to get a more complete experience.

This book is a perfect reminder that the Bible is meant to be read and re-read. Readers might have read about Joshua and Caleb, but I liked the reminder to focus on God and put my trust in Him instead of listening to fear.

If you are looking for a book to help you improve your prayer life, especially if you have a really busy schedule, this one is great!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Body and Soul Publishing in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

These are scripture based prayers that were short and simple enough to be my own words. I was encouraged as I prayed them and will probably keep this book on my kindle to pray them all again.
