Ah, Roderick Hunt, what a vital part of my growing up you were.

I’m fairly certain it’s a British rite of passage to read a Roderick Hunt book. They are the books you have to read at school, the ones that will move you towards the entirety of the literary world.

And boy, were they ever fun!

It doesn’t matter how old I get, I’m still more than capable of recalling details from his stories.

They certainly left a lasting impression!

Read with my Turkish host family's children. I think this is my favourite of the Oxford Reading Tree series so far. Maybe it's because when I opened it, the first thing I saw was 'Saranda, Albania' on a sign and that was such an unexpected link back to my month in Albania that I swooned. The family go for a seaside holiday but all the accommodation is full or unsuitable (though I would've stayed at the Grand Hotel for cats). But a chance breakdown leads them to the coolest place ever to stay; seriously, can anyone find me a red double-decker bus on Airbnb?!

Stage 3, More Stories.

It's a family holiday but disaster strikes - the hotel has burnt down. Mum and Dad have a family which they need to resolve fast.
