Xakk Marks the Spot: The Infinna-Net Pirates of Medialuna
In 2294, pirates stole what became of the Internet & one computer chipped teen must find the pieces with his Venenblitz or his family marches in the Parade of Lightning…
It is Pirates of the Caribbean meets Terminator meets The Legend of Zelda for young adults.
15-year-old runaway pirate Xakk Fisher’s options:
A: Find the stolen Infinna-Net by use of his Venenblitz
B: Watch his loved one’s souls march in the Parade of Lightning
In 2294, a message from 15-year-old Xakk Fisher’s missing brother begs him to run away to help against the threat of immediate danger without reason. Before, he was just any other school loathing teenager: a dreamer born to play sax, thieving daily to feed his family with a tough choice to leave or not. He risks it all sailing away with The Pursoportas, his brother’s crew of “Booztas” (Booztas, aka decent pirates) with no idea he has the Venenblitz: electrical veins powered by the computer chip under his cheek. Within a month, two crews of Cringaz (inherently evil pirates) try kidnapping him for his powerful ability.
Aboard the plum and ivory L.F. INSTAR, Xakk discovers his brother lied and finds out why he’s truly the one in immediate danger. Turns out he’s the hot target of the sea’s most wanted: the last of eight chip implanted able to access Medialuna—rumored location of the Infinna-Net. A tingling sensation running through his body upon use, the Venenblitz powers 21st century technologies needed to find the Infinna-Net. An evolution of the Internet, it once atmospherically networked all minds and technology until stolen in 2050, booming worldwide chaos and war, still capable of mass mind control in the wrong hooks. The many Cringaz aren’t the worst of his troubles, either.
Between a near death Skyrfing high above the pirate city of Dos Vegas, the roaring Furjector projecting holographic tools from his palm (seen only by his right eye), Ghubing invisible, cybernetic animals, and life at sea with questionable officers, his old life as a dreaming teenager is all but gone. He must find the Infinna-Net with the help of his cocky brother and impulsive best friend-girl, avoiding any number of Cringaz and worse, or the mental freewill of society marches in the Parade of Lightning to the beat of his saxophone.
Will Xakk find this so-called “ancient treasure” against his will to protect his loved ones, refuse and witness their deaths, or die trying and lose it all anyways…?
Mr. Lewis does a great job of creating a unique and vivid environment to hold his unconventional coming of age, pirate tale. This post-apocalyptic adventure finds the lead character Xakk, on a quest to obtain a critical piece of "ancient technology." However the part I found more endearing was the journey the character sought in regards to his family and its legacy upon reuniting with his lost brother. The story presents itself at times as almost satirical look of today's over stimulation of technology and norms, while sticking to its heart of creating a dynamic tale of discovery, which connected for me. Themes that are common from great writers such as: JK Rowling, Louis Stevenson and Orson Wells become apparent as influential voices for the author. I really feel there is a little bit of something for everyone in this story be it mystery, adventure, even a touch of romance. Looking forward to what lies ahead in the next step of the series.
