Dia, or Dianthe as her full name is, have just flown her parents nest and moved to London by herself. Almost right after moving (we hear that her things are still in boxes) Dia her BFF Annie are going out to celebrate Dia’s 20th birthday. Really this is also a way for Annie to play matchmaker and set Dia up with her cousin, Daniel, so when Dia and Daniel are getting to know each other (as much as one can in a club), Annie bails to give them some privacy. When Dia finds out about this she for some unexplainable reason thinks it’s perfectly fine for her to waltz through the streets of London, all by her lonesome self and get the tube home, instead of the safer option which would be either letting Daniel take her home or get a taxi.

description

But no, we’re dealing with an overconfident dumb female, who even though being raised in a catholic family and have an overbearing father and brother, can’t possibly see anything wrong with that plan. So of course, she gets attacked and saved by a mysterious stranger. Kale, the wolf in shining armour, instantly recognize Dia as his mate but so does Robin, who’s really the mischievous fae, Puck. So Dia does what any Reverse Harem heroine does, she refuses to choose – or actually, the males tell her she doesn’t have to because as a good little catholic girl, that thought would never cross her innocent thoughts! So now Dia has her harem containing:

Robin / Puck – Faery
Kale – Alpha wolf
Daniel – Human

As the story progresses we learn more about why Dia’s male family members are so over protective (apparently, she’s adopted), who she is and where she comes from. Daniel also have a few secrets up his sleeve, or rather, in his heritage.

This is the first book I’ve read by J.B. Miller and if it wasn’t because it’s a series, I’m not sure I would read any more books by this author. There’s huge potential for the plot, which I found really intriguing, however, I’m a bit torn about the execution of said plot as there’s quite a few things I would have liked better explained. It seems that the parts that doesn’t have a deeper meaning is explained in great length (like how her hair moves, what patterns are on her clothes) whereas the things with a deeper meaning and big relevance are just explained briefly and then swept under the rug.

The characters are extremely shallow and there’s hardly any development or progress on any of them, which is a shame, because as of right now I don’t feel a connection to any of them, so I don't really care if they're safe or not.

description

Even for a book with paranormal deities it’s quite unrealistic.
Dia is your virgin-damsel in distress but that doesn’t stop her from just thinking “okay”, when a second man out of nowhere join her bed escapades, the night she loses her v-card. Sure, there’s some magic involved but when that magical veil is lifted she’s still totally fine with all of it. Personally, I think my biggest “WTF” was that J.B. Miller goes out of her way to explain how important Dia’s catholic upbringing is and yet, the girl has sex with three different guys within a very short time span. I am neither religious nor a prude, but I like even fiction to make a bit of sense and therefore, I really don’t buy into the whole “the church is so important to me, but hey you over there let me just spread my legs for you”.

description

I will be reading the other books in this series because I still find the mythology aspect interesting and, I do very much hope that the rest will fall into place as the story continues.

WARNING: This review is full of spoilers so don't go past the Summary if you don't want to know what happens. My recommendation is to read the review and not the book.

Summary
Dianthe Rising by J.B Miller is a cross between "Bridget Jones" and "The Lightning Thief" with some menage sex thrown in for kicks. Alternatively it could be called Catholic Girl Gone Wild! The author throws everything and the kitchen sink at this storyline, but then doesn't do any of it justice. Shallow character development and an uneven plot make this a rocky read, as does the frequent point of view switching. The author should have either written 3 books with sufficient development to explain how the multiple partners ended up in a relationship, or chosen one of the men on which to focus. Don't waste your time reading this book even if you got it for free and definitely don't pay for it.

Fantasy World
The story is set mostly in London, but the dialog tends to pull the reader back to the United States. The phrasing is off enough to be noticeable. Dia also goes from virgin to menage in a heartbeat not batting an eye when a second man shows up for her deflowering. Then she moves on to a third man the next day. It's hard to believe in a fantasy world that doesn't even believe in itself.

Tingle Factor
Some of the character actions/interactions are too unbelievable for the sex scenes to be enjoyable. I kept getting so distracted and annoyed, I was unable to enjoy the main attraction.

Romance
Several characters declare feelings for each other, but no real rationale is given for such emotions. They come out of nowhere, and the reader's emotions aren't engaged.

Drama
The author tries for drama, but ends up with the disjointed story of a woman who wanders from escapade to sexcapade.

Heroine
Dia is a good girl who falls off the wagon the moment she moves to London despite her adoptive, puritanical family checking on her daily. She is so smart she tested out of school early, but otherwise makes very poor life decisions. Dia's actions/reactions don't make any sense and we're left with more of a caricature than a character.

Hero #1
Daniel is a bouncer at a bar with a secret purpose, which is revealed much later in the book to conveniently prop up the plot. He's a military veteran who doesn't seem to care when another man shows up to participate when he's having sex with his new girl. Not only does he not blink at another man joining in, he kisses the shit out of him. Poor Daniel seems to be the token human in this story

Hero #2
Kale is an alpha werewolf who knows Dia is his mate the moment he smells her, but then decides to take it slow pursuing her. As an alpha, it is a sacrilege to share his mate, but then he agrees to a polyamorous relationship with Dia and two other men. He has issues within his pack (Pups Gone Wild), which is only briefly touched upon, and Kale comes across more as a headmaster than a pack alpha. It's like every action he makes contradicts who he supposedly is.

Hero #3
Robin is the most fun of the men, which is only fair as he is actually Puck. He comes across a bit more opportunistic than mischievous, but has the most depth of all the characters. His magic use is once again too conveniently used to prop up the plot, but at least he's more enjoyable than annoying to read, which is more than can be said for the rest of the characters.

This is J.B.Miller Debut Novel and I had the pleasure of reading this book as an ARC.
And I say pleasure because it’s that simple it was a pleasure to read. It has everything a good paranormal book should have, likeable character’s even a few swoon worthy males *cough cough* Kale is mine. Romance is all over this book and as Dia ends up with more than one male there is plenty of sex scenes to which do include group sex scenes and yes they do hit the spot.
The story basically revolves around Dia and the mystery of who is she and just who her birth parents are.
She has never really wanted to find them as she has a great adoptive family I mean Sean might be a bit of an over baring brother but he’s only looking out for her as he is basically her rock.
Dia know nothing of her growing powers till her Mates start showing up.
Dia meets Daniel first as he is her best friend Annie’s cousin I really like Daniel he is easy going and accepts things when his relationship grows with Dia. Now throw in Kale he’s the sexy Werewolf and yes I have a soft spot for him he finds it hard to share but soon learns the only way he can part of her life is if he just does that. I loved the banter between Robin and Kale they don’t get on at first but yeah Robin calms the wolf in the only way he knows best. Ah now onto Robin naughty naughty Robin who likes to cause trouble but in a fun way. You can see he loves Dia he’s the first to declare his undying love for her and I love his sexual side like I said he is naughty.
I love the four of them together and when Dia finds out who her parents are especially her father yeah she is shocked but wants to know more about him. They are all there for her and with that ending they will fight for her.
Yes the ending is a cliff-hanger and I shouted at my kindle you can’t end it there. This is a great start to a series I can tell will get better and better which each book. And if you want to read something a little different I urge you to read this book you won’t be disappointed.

I was sent a copy of Dianthe Rising to read and review and I fell in love with this book!!! WARNING! This book is extremely hot and heavy and sssooooooo sexy!

From the start I was completely hooked by the playful banter between the main character(Dia) and her flatmate Annie. It made me laugh out loud at how realistic their conversations are. The family dynamics are so true to life and how families really work. And wow..... let me just say that the chemistry between Dia and her mates is sizzling hot and very well written without overly cliche'd sex scenes.

I can't wait for the next installment in the series to see where it goes from here!

I LOVE this book and i can already tell it's making it's way into one of my favourite series

one thing though

cunny!?!?

Bahahahahaha so cringeworthy!

in fact i simultaneously laughed and cringed.

i'll be happy if i never have to hear or even think of that 'term' again.

who would of thought i'd dislike a word more than c**t.

well knock me down with a feather to think i could still be surprised/aghast/horrified by a single word.

goodness me i'm laugh crying i just know i'm going to think of it randomly and lose my mind laughing in horror until it sifts through my memory.

Anyways READ THE BOOK
relish in the reverse harem goodness
ignore the...*lmfao* cu - pffft i can say it again - woo peace out i need to go breathe
enjoy the books! i sure am.

J.B. Miller will go on my list as one of my favorite authors, this was the first I've read anyone of her work, and I have to say I loved it!. 48% Through the book found a new phrase... Robin(the fae was talking to his mate) he used dick mitten!! omg that’s a first for me. I must note this new term :)

What a wonderful fun story, not too long I almost said too short but as I think about it... deciding its about the perfect length. This isn't a stand alone, the ending will have you wanting to smack someone. Of course will be eager to grab the next one.
Dianthe (Dia) thinks nothing about her being adopted, she was blessed with a wonderful family. Devout Catholic and great love bordering on smoother of their adoptive little girl. When Dia moves out it hits the fan as she turns of age.
A night out on town will change her life as she as come to know it. It will set her in the middle of the unbelievable. Dia almost becomes a dinner snack to a vamp, as she thinks to make her way home on the dark streets.
Kale is a alpha out this night looking for the young pups of his pack, thinking to put a boot in their backs about being out and being stupid. When he catches a scent that makes him think “mine” and inadvertently comes to rescue of a damsel in distress.
Daniel a larger than life body guard at a club, thanks to his cousin he meets the cutest little female. When it was time for him to go back to work, he had assumed he left his little button safe and on her way home.
Robin cant say much about a Fae, a Prince and powerful, naughty and mischievous. He met the cute little human and a half, at her office where she studies Myths and creatures of lore. Go figure...smiles.
Magic and fast love, I'm a firm believer that you can fall in love in a short time. Poor Dia simply has her hands full. While two of her suitors comes to blows almost each time they are in the room together, She is bound and determined to make those two mind somebody as she stomps off giving to go see the human suitor of the three males. Toss in the fact she finds out she isn’t what she thought she was, right as she accidentally has a water cool hover about the office.
You can almost feel the passion, how quickly it grows, Dia isn’t done yet though...A whole new world of love, passion sex and danger is thrown at her. The story is fun, the loving is hot, the interaction between characters on spot with the story. Amazing job!! Enjoy

If I was reviewing this book on the storyline alone then it would be a definite five stars from me, however, there were some pretty major things that totally let this book down from what could've been an absolutely great book. There were some major inconsistencies, from the time line to spelling and grammatical errors. It got seriously confusing at times to just be able to follow along with the story due to these errors. I honestly believe that if there had been more editing or proofreading or something the book would've been five stars all the way. Looking past all that the actual storyline and you find a wee gem, its obvious there has not only been a lot of work and research put into this book but also a lot of heart. It does show through even with the issues and I'm glad I persevered to the end of the story. The character development is done well although with this being the first its obvious that we will be seeing at least some growth throughout the series. Dia is obviously going through a lot of changes of unexpected changes, with so much going on that she doesn't actually understand, she doesn't however crumble under the pressure and shows a great strength of character she really is like able, as are her mates however with there being three of them maybe you don't see as much of them and they definitely come across more as side characters. Dia's adoptive family's love for her is obvious, and although her brother can be seriously overprotective at times you can see his heart is in the right place. Overall this is a great start to the series and I will be reading the follow up books although I do hope the kinks are worked out a bit more next time, as I do feel it really let the whole thing down, whilst reading it I found myself concentrating more on what was wrong than not. Hopefully, things will only get better for this series.

Dianthe(Dia) Mclearey is bright young researcher interested in mythology and it's ties to the real world. Dia and Annie Lovelace celebrates her twentieth birthday meeting Daniel Lovelace, Annie's cousin, is unexpected pleasure. Annie leaves Dia to her own devices which leads to trouble no one could ever expect for Dia. Dia is attacked by creepy Goth man named Marcus outside White Hart pub. Dia's rescuer Kale Jameson, alpha wolf, scents his mate but doesn't know anything about her except her scent. Kale wants a meeting set up with Fae Liason David Davies as soon as possible to be introduced to Dianthe. Dia interrupts meeting between her boss and two strange gentlemen Robin "Puck" Goodfellow and Kale Jameson. Both men recognize that Dia is their mate and each want to establish their own claim on her. Dia goes from not dating to having three men all vying for her attention. Dia gets several unexpected surprises which leave her reeling from the consequences. What is special about Dia? Will Dia accept being mated to three men? What are the unexpected surprises? Your answers await you in Dianthe Rising.

Dianthe Rising is one of those books that take you by surprise and hungry for more. This book also raised the question "can you really love more than one person?", which I thought the author addressed really well. Dianthe isn't like other leading ladies I've read about she truly takes things in stride after digesting the information given her. Kale, Daniel, and Puck are surprisingly reasonable about the whole relationship which was a pleasant surprise in my reading. I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment in this series.

I was given an arc copy in return for an honest review.

I just have to say the story of this book was awesome.

What first attracted me to this book was that it involve the Sidhe. I was looking for stories with that theme and this came out.

I so loved her mates. I was actually expecting Dianthe to only have two mates but there were three. I have to say that the story was steamy. I actually like Daniel but I love Robin more. About Kale... he's alright but I like the other two more especially Puck.

I also love their dialogue especially the funny parts. I couldn't keep myself from laughing especially where Robin make jokes about Kale about dogs.

I also love the chemistry between Dianthe and her mates. They were really hot. Each of the guys were unique on their on way. Now, Daniel's line age was a complete surprise. That part was really surprising and a good one.

i did not expect the ending to be a cliffhanger. I mean I should have known it would be but I was hoping it didn't happen. I can't wait for book two to come out. I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm not going to give any spoilers away....but Kale...OMG. Enough about him and more about the author. I got this book as beta read. I was impressed by the author. The story is original. The story sucks up in from the very start. I'm american so there were a few bits and pieces I had to re-read to fully understand, but that doesn't hurt the story. I love the way the author wrote it. There is a cliff hanger (I have a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers) and I'm not sure when the next installment will be out, but this is a MUST read.

You will not be dissappointment. I'm iching for the next book. There were times I found myself reading and reading more when I should have been doing other things...like working or getting the kid ready for school. I never wanted to put this book down.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am now eager for number 2! Since I have read many paranormal series I was expecting something that wasn't as good as I have previously read as it was also a free download from amazon - It was on par if not BETTER than I initially thought.

The only issue I had was the bad spelling/grammar - more proof reading needed!

You are given very detailed descriptions of the characters and surrounding and it was a very easy to read book - not one that you struggle to ' get in to'. I am not going to spoil it by putting any of the storyline or plot as some reviewers do.

Loved it. All the characters are very likeable. I love the dynamics of their relationship and how all these very different people of very different species can all be together and make the relationship work. Dia is a very lucky woman though I think Daniel is my favourite of her mates. I cannot wait for the next one.

I loved this book. The story line was great. This is an erotic romance, so if that's not what you are looking for you might not like it. I can't wait for the other books. Hope it doesn't take too long to get them out. I think for a first novel J.B. Miller did an excellent job. I would recommend this to my friends. Can't wait to see what's next for Dia and her mates.

I find a liked the story line, but man! Definitely x-rated and LOTS more detail than I wanted to read. She says it's the first in a trilogy - not sure I'll get the next two when they come out. A lot of grammar/typo/missing word problems common to self-published books.

For 20 years Dia has a good little girl. Adopted by a strong Catholic family after being left on the steps of a convent, she has been loved and sheltered. All that changes on a girl's night out clubbing for her birthday. The night starts out promising with the introduction to her best friend's cousin Daniel. It appears he may be Dia's Prince Charming. However the night ends with what seems like a drug induced mugging. It's actually a vampire attack and the mystery man who saves her is actually an Alpha werewolf. Within days Dia's world has been turned upside down. The world of myths she has spent years studying is in fact real. Shifter's, demi-gods, faeries, and vampires all exist and Dia is one of them. She also finds herself involved with 3 men; Daniel, the Alpha Kale, and a legendary fae Robin Goodfellow, the Puck. It's all overwhelming, but it also feels right. The bonds are real.

I enjoyed this paranormal reverse harem. The premise was well thought out and detailed. I love when different paranormal worlds are blended together. Dia's degree and her position as a research assistant into myths was perfect to add world building and character information. The pacing was quick and there were non-stop developments. The characters made the story for me. Dia is lovely. She's sweet and smart, but no push-over. Her heart is her biggest strength. Her mom, her brother Sean, and her best friend Annie are fantastic; sometimes overbearing, overprotective, but always loving her. And her men are all yummy! Kale is hot as the conflicted Alpha. Daniel is a man of surprises, secrets, and many layers, yet the easiest to get along with. And Robin is so complex; the trickster who has unknowingly led an empty life. He now sees the family he wants and he's willing to do anything to make it work. As an ancient faerie he has no human hang-ups and immediately understands that all of Dia's mates are mates to each other as well. There are sexy scenes between Dia and all three guys as well as some steamy M/M action.

It ends with a major cliffhanger that had me downloading the next book immediately. Book two is a novella between Kale and Robin. Book 3 picks up the main story. I will be reading them both over the next day!

I abandoned the book at 43%. I could deal with the cringy dialog and the m'lady, and by that ignore, but when Puck, you know the infamous fae from A Mid Summer Night's Dream, who is suppose to be one of her three guys in the harem, glamors himself to 1) watch Dia and Daniel have sex, 2) glamors again to be able to touch them during sex so they won't deal out at the third person, 3) finds out Dia is a virgin and glamors again to be able to reveal himself so they aqueous and allow him to be the one to roughly take her virginity, without objection, binding her to him, or you know rape, I was out. I would give this less than one star if I could. Horrible, lazy writing relying on magic instead of character building. And BTW 20 year old don't think Tom Cruise is hot, they don't even know who he is he is so freaking old.

Interesting kook at mythology and fantasy

I love mythology. This series takes an interesting look at various Celtic myths and history as well as other, more standard, paranormal concepts such as vampires and werewolves. Not exactly insta-love but she does find her mates quickly, or rather, they find her. I was intrigued enough that I went to the next book, beware that it is marked as the 3rd. The 2nd is actually an excerpt from this book. It covers a 3week span that I won't spoil but if you aren't a fan of m/m or m/m/m you may want to go ahead and back away from this series. Mates share here in this RH, more of a bi poly than standard RH. I've read all 3 now and am excitedly waiting on book 4.

This is the first JB Miller book I’ve read and so far I like it, it has the potential to be great. This series was recommended to me by another avid RH reader. So, it’s a Fantasy RH romance (MF, MM, MFM & MFMM). Our leading lady has found out that she is a demigod and she has three mates. It’s insta-love and they are practically moving in together within a week or so, I wouldn’t normally point it out however Dia is brought up as a good catholic girl but seems to accept everything quite quickly.
This book predominantly revolves around finding out about Dias origins (bio-parents) and the starting of her relationship with her mates. It does end with a cliffhanger so readers beware- some of you may just be sucked in like I am.

I stumbled across this book in one of my Facebook reader groups and I am forever grateful to whomever recommended it.

Dia is the 22 year old adopted daughter of a tight knit, overprotective Catholic family. She is the baby if the family and still "pure". She is finally living on her own when all of a sudden she finds out the mythological and paranormal world she has always been fascinated with is not only real, but she is a card carrying member with not one but three mates! Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. She has to not only accept the extraordinary, but overcome 22 years of Catholic upbringing.

There is humor, stress, love and craziness all n one book. I highly recommend it!!!

Dia is an overly bright Catholic good girl who is overly protected by her father and brother. This apparently means she has no common sense and walks home alone drunk from a nightclub. She gets herself into some trouble meets 3 hot guys and blah. I am intrigued by these reverse harem novels but I have yet to find one that actually works. In this case the problem was Daniel. He was a major creep...and our supposedly sweet and innocent Dia is totally fine with it. I don't care how hot a guy is picking you up in the middle of a club and grabbing your ass is not endearing...so when he shows up and they start making out I was just kinda grossed out and didn't care to read more.

This is such a great steamy reverse harem series!

Dianthe Rising is basically the start to this whole journey and I think it kicks it off quite well. Dianthe seems to be the average girl who is working on her research and hanging out with her bestie on the weekends. Enter a few key players who turn this "normal" girl into one who has a lot of sh*t going on. --Excuse my french, but there is no better description.

What I really enjoy about this novel and the series in general is the fact that the focus is neither completely on the steamy parts or the actual plot. Instead there is this perfect mixture of steam and story that makes this such a great read.

Would definitely recommend!!

I'm very unimpressed with this book unfortunately. It took me a week to finish (normally 1 - 3 days) because I got stuck at 55% and then just had to skim the rest of the way through to finish it. I didn't like the writing style - was very juvenile and awkward in places and I didn't like the characters. There was no consistency - the character would react one way to a situation and then suddenly would do a 180 to a similar situation. Was hard to follow and I just couldn't relate at all. And then the ending had a massive cliffhanger and felt very rushed - too much information in only a few pages. And there were so many random scenes!

Not bad. Kind of hard to believe- I know- even though it's supernatural and 'out there' but I have read other stories by other authors who write similar stuff (like Amelia Hutchins for example) and it's so well written and believable. I found it hard to believe and be interested when the main character just jumped into giving up virginity AND then having a threesome and then three mates and marriage....just...with one sentence, " i know I should question this, but oh well...".would've been so good if more believable as in the main character questioned all this....but still fun read.
