Nancy, a purple-haired witch, has never fit in with the kids in town. She has always felt something was deeply wrong with her. When Josh, her best friend, is attacked by a werewolf, Nancy seeks a potion to save him from the werewolf curse within him. But Josh’s fate--werewolf or human--is his to decide, when the potion is injected during his transition at the full of the moon.
Nancy, too, must make a choice. Her mother, her best friend, and a steadfast young man all see the magic within her. Can she finally accept who she is and give love a chance?

I received this from the author for a honest review. first I must say that when you read this you will begin to think there is some background information missing because why is Josh trying to save his town from Vampires and save his sister from becoming one? That's not to say this book cannot stand alone or be enjoyed it is just that that will be in the back of your mind. with that said there is a book that came before this one called darkness within by Sara fitzgerald that explains that aspect.
This is a fun fast read. Josh is a great nice sweet guy. He risks his life to help his sister and town by going to get fur off a werewolf. Not the smartest thing in the world but his reasons are love and that is a good and noble won. He loves his sister enough to risk everything. And everything is risked to the point where he is attacked by the werewolf.
Nancy is Josh's best friend and these two have unvisited feelings for each other. Both are witches and have that connection. Nancy is less self assured than Josh and feels like a outcast. She doesn't conform to the norm. that is until she starts to be around Nick. She begins to hang with Nick to help Josh but along the way she starts to like him and he helps to save her from herself.
Josh the popular guy is now the lowest on the totem pole. He is now having to leave everything because he will become a werewolf. The pack leader hates him but Sandy takes a liking to him as does Jake and Rebecca. Jake saves Josh the night he is bitten and helps train him for the transition. Meanwhile Sandy shows him kindness and helps him get information to his friends and family. This closeness begins to turn into more for Josh and he hopes for Sandy as well.
time is running out though for in order for Josh to stay human a potion is needed. Samantha, Josh's sister, and Nancy race against the clock to save Josh. Meanwhile Josh is learning some valuable lessons about love and judgments. Love he is seeing can be in many forms. He loves Nancy but not as more than a sister and friend. This is discovered as he gets to know Sandy. He loves Sandy but wants her happy so he is willing to let her go if that is what makes her happy but this is reluctantly because he thinks she wants to turn human again. He also learns that his views on werewolves are wrong and starts to see them in a whole new light. he realizes not all werewolves are monsters. Some have humanity in them. As he struggles with who he is and who he loves, the journey is a struggle.
A fun fast read about love, perceptions and struggling to find ones way. a nice story about first loves, how we shouldn't judge a book or people by the label they are or the cover it is given and how we must look within our selves and find the strength within to see who we really are and what we want and deserve.
It's all about werewolves in this YA paranormal book! Poor Josh gets bitten in a desperate attempt to save his sister from the vampire fate. The consequence of being bitten by a werewolf is that you eventually turn into a werewolf yourself. Well, that is if you survive the transition from human to werewolf on the night of the next full moon.
Josh is a witch, not a werewolf. He has always believed werewolves to be horrible, evil creatures so when he realizes that he will become one of them he is understandably upset and angry. As Josh lives among the werewolves and gets to know them, he learns some important lessons.
Nancy is a smart girl/witch with a healthy dose of self doubt. It was nice to see Nancy transform through the book from insecure to confident. I loved her loyalty to her friend, Josh and her determination to save him.
I felt like the book stayed pretty much on the surface. I wish I would have had more of a back story or understanding of why things were the way they were. The story just sort of started and ended without me understanding when it came from, if that makes any sense. The surface story was there without any foundation, I guess. I was looking for some meatier substance.
I did enjoy the book though. It was easy to read and kept me mostly interested throughout. One theme I liked from this book was that you shouldn't ever judge someone based on who you think they are or where you think they come from. People can surprise you and when you take the time to really get to know people, you will probably change your mind about some preconceived notions you had. It happens in this book and I really liked that. It's an important lesson to learn.
I started off liking this book but I felt like this was a second book in the series. All this talk about defeating vampires, I felt like I was missing information. I hate reading books and finding out it’s the second or third book in a series because it makes me feel like I’m missing out on useful information.
Magic Within is a fast paced book, that didn’t take long to read at all. Once you start reading it’s hard to stop because you just want to know what happens next, I liked being able to read from both Josh and Nancy’s POV, but I just didn’t feel the connection between the characters.
I thought that Nancy’s character at times was whiny and annoying and the romance between her and Nick was almost non-existent.
That being said I liked the plot of this book. I’m a huge werewolf fan so whenever a book has werewolf’s in it, I’m hooked!
