In Chains #2

Locked Together

Rate this book
For Savannah, it was an easy choice; getting sent to the Compound meant she and Kayden could be together. But nothing is ever that simple. Caught in a system that encourages cruelty and mind games; will their love survive?

This is book two in the In Chains series and continues the story of Kayden and Savannah. I would recommend reading book one first as this is not a standalone.

Please note: this book contains strong language.

Locked Together is definitely much better if you've read the first book, In Chains. It would be kind of confusing as a standalone. I was really looking forward to reading this sequel, I wanted to know how life would be in the 'Pound' for Kayden and Savannah and what new trials their relationship would have to endure.

Savannah is the same strong character as she was in the previous book. She's very kind, compassionate and loving. She's saved Kayden's life and has chosen to endure her punishment in the slave compound, where she can at least be with Kayden. Savannah is shocked by the treatment of slaves in the compound, although she is lucky to be relatively sheltered by a guard who takes sympathy on her.
Kayden was a real let down for me in this book. It took me a while to put my finger on what was bothering me. In the first book I enjoyed the scenes from Kayden's POV because I could see how much he loved Savannah, but I didn't particularly enjoy them this time. They do add to the story, so we can see the way his treatment at the compound affects him. But he can come across as quite immature, and rash in his POV scenes. It's only when I see him through Savannah's eyes that I really remember that they have this strong love between them.
They do still have a very strong chemistry and connection, which they need in order to face the challenges that come their way.

The plot for about 3/4 of the book was great. It was fast paced with plenty of tension and twists for them to navigate. The last 1/4 was pretty abrupt and I felt, didn't work as well. I won't give away spoilers (even though there's something I'd love to mention). There was a time jump and the events that had unfolded during this time surprised me, and I didn't think it fit with the story very well. I did however, love the ending and epilogue!

I've moaned a little bit, but I did still really enjoy this. It's not quite as good as the first book, but it wraps up the loose threads and questions left from the first book. There's some more explanation about the origin of the slavery, which I appreciated as it was one of my big questions after the first book.
I'm already looking forward to what Michelle will bring us next.

Locked Together is the sequel to In Chains by Michelle Abbott. I recommend that you read In Chains prior to starting Locked Together as it is a continuation of that story.

This is such an interesting, unique story and I love that it’s a different romance story to what I normally read. The writing is great and it flows along nicely and there is never a lull in the story telling. It expresses a lot of emotion and I credit that to the swapping in point of view between the characters Savannah and Kayden.

The characters are very likeable in this book. Savannah, (a human) has managed to have herself sent to a slave compound after admitting to being a part of a crime that involves her boyfriend Kayden,(a slave) whom she does not want to be separated from. Kayden used to belong to Simon, Savannah’s brother. They fell in love and began a forbidden relationship after she moved in with Simon to escape an abusive ex-boyfriend. Kayden is sent to the slave compound as punishment for his crime and is surprised when he see’s Savannah there. The slaves are subjected to harsh living conditions and cruel punishments and he does not want her to have to suffer this fate. Together their relationship is very sweet and they are constantly trying to protect one another even while they are locked in the compound.

It’s not a predictable read for the most part and it did take a few unexpected turns. The ending the author has given this very likeable couple is great and even though it is not one that you would call conventional, they make the best out of an impossible situation.

If you’re looking for a unique love story that is full of love, longing and passion then I suggest you give this a try. It’s a story that is brutal as well as beautiful.

4.5 stars out of 5....
While reading In Chains (book 1), I fell in love with Kayden and Savannah. The amazing connection that they develop despite the odds is a wonderful story to read and discover that true love can find a way when you believe.

So needless to say, I couldn’t wait to begin reading Locked Together to find out what was in store for Kayden and Savannah. How would life be in the pound, did Savannah make the right decision, can their love for one another get them through this obstacle and what is going to come once they are able to be free from the Pound? In the society that they are from, is it even possible for them to ever be truly free to love one another.

Kayden is an amazing individual that will do anything for the ones he loves. The kindness that he demonstrates to others and his ability to love and care is unbelievable. Even when they are separated and Kayden doesn’t have any idea how to find the Savannah’s brother’s farm he doesn’t give up. Not only does he fight with every ounce of will and strength he has, he manages to find a way to work during the days to help raise money that he plans to give to his Savannah for a future together.

The struggles that Savannah has to face in the pound and after escaping are hard and at times seem to be unbearable. But somehow she is able to live through her love for Kayden and the hope that he will come back to her.

I couldn’t guess from page to page what might happen, if they would make it and have a future or if it was all is for nothing. Savannah again amazes me with her strength and her ability to look past what others see and do what is best for her. She lives for Kayden and her family; she refuses to be held back by society’s stereotypes and rules against slaves. This book proves to be a story of a true heroine (Savannah) and hero (Kayden) and their journey to find love and happiness. They might not be able to have a ‘normal’ life according to their society, but they are able to have a life that is filled with love, happiness and family and that is all that truly matters.

I loved these books and admire the tough issues of prejudice and racism that the author tackled within the story. The ability to look past another’s race, skin color, education, place in society and to truly see them as an equal is wonderful. I just wish more people in the ‘real world’ could have the same views, as Savannah, and demonstrate what it truly means to see no difference among people, that no matter what anyone says we are all human beings and deserve to have the same opportunities in life. To find love and happiness in your life is all that matters and is what everyone deserves… <3

I picked up LOCKED TOGETHER literally after I put down IN CHAINS. I was desperate to know how Savannah’s and Kayden’s somewhat tragic but simply beautiful love continues after ending like book #1 did. While I didn't agree with the two of them all along the way, I was absolutely blown away by that ending and epilogue! Definitely the most stunning ending I’ve read about in a while.

The story starts exactly where IN CHAINS has ended. Per her own will Savannah is now locked in the compound meant for slave training – her only purpose: to stay close to Kayden. The compound is like a prison, but not exactly. The slaves are treated very badly which Savannah is to discover first hand as she is one of them for a year now. Nevertheless, she does not regret her decision to save Kayden – even if that means to sacrifice her own freedom.
Kayden cannot understand why Savannah would possibly choose being held captive at the compound but is determined to make the best of the time they are given together. Oh, and they do! Regardless of their circumstances – be it mad guards who do their best to make life miserable for both of them or their own insecurities – they stick together and the bond – the love – between them grows even stronger – hell, they even manage to have steamy sex at the compound!

I really appreciated that Savannah remains the same person she was in book one, before the compound – genuine, smart yet a bit naïve, determined and most of all she kept her pure heart. Kayden does not change as well; he is still Savannah’s protector who would do anything for her. The person that indeed changes a bit is Savannah’s brother Simon. Although he is still not happy with her choice, he redeems himself and even helps the two of them at some point.

The journey this series takes you on is promising, vivid and very intense – it makes you believe that love truly can overcome every obstacle that is thrown in its path – as long as it is strong enough.
And , oohh, this epilogue!! I know I mentioned it before, but I cannot even express how much this wonderful ending captivated me, it is plain breathtaking and more than I would have hoped for!

LOCKED TOGETHER is a great conclusion to Savannah’s and Kayden’s story, and I enjoyed it even more than I did the first book.
Don’t miss out on this beautiful dystopian romance series!

I was provide a copy of the book by the Author for an honest review.

WOW just finish reading this book, and I have to say I love it, after reading the first book (IN CHAIN) I was hook on this one, and wanted to know how it was gone turn out to be, and let me just say that it turn out to be great, I love the characters and love the ending of it.

This book pick right up where the IN CHAIN left off, I have to say that this book also made me cried, the way they where being treating them, got me so mad, I am gone keep this short since I don't want to give anything away.

Savannah and Kayden story continue, when Savannah took the blame on her, she asked to be send to the compound where the slave are, she wanted to be with Kayden, when they took her to the compound the guards where a little confuse as why was a human their, that first day she did not see Kayden into it was diner time, Kayden was surprise to see her their, after that night Savannah started to see how bad they treat the slave, she started to see that they where not following the rule, while Kayden and Savannah where in different level, the manager of the place started to see that she was trouble, that's when they put her on level three with Kayden, from their on the knew that they have to be strong for each other and survive.

Oh my poor Kayden I am so in love with him, this character has gone through so much, that made me cried he was punish for mistakes that he did not do, but when ever Savannah did something he took the blame.

I love the way that he love Savannah, all he thought about was her he couldn't live without her, I love it when Simon, Savannah brother finally did something good to make up for the mistake that he did, the love that this two characters have for each other is prove that love can win all the war in the world.

I really love and enjoy reading this book, this was the perfect ending, Author Michelle Abbott THANK YOU for this AWESOME SERIES AND THIS AMAZING CHARACTERS LOVE IT.

Wow... I read this book as soon as I put down In Chains, expecting more of Kayden and Savannah's heart-mending, all encompassing, gut-wrenching love story. I've seen this story being compared to Romeo and Juliet, but I honestly don't think so. These two characters see the love they have for each other as a light in the darkness. Just as vivid and descriptive, this book broke my heart and mended it back together. Truly spectacular writing of what seems to be a simple yet logical dystopian future.

I was extremely happy to see that Savannah did not change in this book. She is still kind, a bit naive, smart and determined. The new characters introduced in this book added a new dimension of nastiness and angst, and I could tell, if the author wants you to hate certain characters , she makes sure you hate them completely. I was also very happy to see Simon, Savannah's brother, become more of a hero , and while he doesn't change his mind completely, at least he isn't such a .... well, you know. Old characters gain even more perspective in this installment, and we get to know more of their stories. I also love the great attention to detail this book has, like Savannah reading the pound guidelines and noticing rules weren't being followed by the guards.

Now... Kayden and Savannah. I don't know where to begin. The author took them to a whole new level.

They are locked in together at a compound meant for slaves, its not really a prison. This NEEDS to be kept in mind, otherwise there are certain events in this book that won't make much sense. They manage to have some super steamy and intense scenes in the pound, in very particular places and circumstances. Their relationship goes through ups and downs, insecurities from both ends, tortures, crazy guards and much more. Immensely fun and intense read, this is a great series I can't recommend enough.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the first book “In Chains” I had to find out what happened to our characters next so I moved straight on to the second book. I'm so glad I did, these books are not difficult to read, they're difficult to put down.

I haven't been able to read “just one chapter” of this book any of the times I've picked it up, and these attempts include almost freezing to death in the bath!

This book does have a few more typos than the previous one, but to be fair I think the one I have may have been a review copy so the actual one may not have these issues. Even if it does, they don't detract from the story line and once you're on to the second book it's not really about that anyway, it's about finding out what happens to Savannah and Kayden. There's a lot of action in this one but I won't tell you why because it will ruin the story.

Some of the twists are easy to spot but they're not supposed to be that well hidden, the story is still gripping and the pay off is well worth it.

Again, I'm not really a romance person but this isn't too girly and there's not an excessive amount of sex in it. That's why I generally avoid this type of book, pages upon pages of sex doesn't interest me and it's amazing how some people can be the absolute opposite of erotic when they try to write it!

Michelle Abbott pulls it off really well and given that that's the part I'm not interested in it doesn't make the story drag, it supports it where it should and it doesn't get stale.

I would definitely recommend both In Chains and Locked Together to anybody who likes a good romance, a little erotica and a gripping storyline.

Locked Together picks up immediately after In Chains ends. Savannah has joined Kayden at the Compound where slave training takes place. For Savannah it was an easy choice. She would do and give anything to be with Kayden but giving up her freedom to be with Kayden; Savannah didn't realize what it would involve but her worst nightmare wouldn't have come close. She learns first hand what it's like to be a slave and that being in the Compound was no guarantee of alone time with Kayden. Kayden can't understand why Savannah would choose to be there but is thankful for the time he can spend with her; but there are still those that want to keep them apart.

I was pleased with this follow up to In Chains and happy to see how the love between Savannah and Kayden would grow and overcome the many obstacles they faced. With so many against them, they face their self doubt and insecurities, but their love for one another only gets stronger.

Locked Together gives us more steam and intimacy between the main characters which results in a much more sexy read. Not only does their love continue as simple and as pure as it began but the sex is on a higher level compared to the first book. Locked Together was a great ending to Savannah and Kayden's story.

This Naughty Mom give Locked Together by Michelle Abbot a BIG 4 stars.

This is book 2 in the In Chains series. This series is completely shocking. The author holds nothing back, creating a dystopian romance set in a world that will horrify you that civilization could be so cruel.... While tantalizing you to continue turning the pages! In this book, Simon (the heroine's brother) manages to redeem himself, which was something I hadn't expected. In the first book, we saw a completely different side of him. The romance continues between the hero and heroine in a setting that is not a great place to be. In a plot that should have been impossible to pull off, the author manages to do so in a way that kept me hooked! Michelle Abbott is great about taking you to the very edge with a character, and I really enjoy how far out she takes this series. This isn't a neat, tidy romance. This is a series that will make you cry, make you smile, and then make you hope like heck that the hero and heroine will end up together, because there is nobody else in this dystopian world they could possibly be better with! Locked Together is a must read, but make sure to get the beginning book first. Once you finish it, you won't be able to wait to get your hands on this one!

Again this needs to be a WAY higher rating, but can't so 5 stars will have to represent how I felt about this book.

Okay so I finished book 1 and decided I was going to break because of the roller coaster ride of emotions, but I kept glancing at my kindle and had to pick it back up. In just a few hours (can't remember how many) and a VERY late hour, I finished book 2...
OMG!!!! If I didn't love Kayden already in book 1, he would have definitely stolen my heart in this one. The sh!t this man went through for the love of his life...GAH! It picks up right where book 1 left off, again I'm biting my nails, screaming at my kindle and crying big fat ugly tears!
Kayden is definitely my #1 book boyfriend (and that's saying a lot because not only do I write my own, but I'm kind of a book boyfriend slut hahahaha) and this book left me with such a book hangover, I found myself reading the series over and over again.
This series is a MUST READ!!!!! I'll be watching this author! Looking forward to more from her. Seriously I'll say it one last time PICK UP THIS SERIES!!!! You won't regret it!!!

Bravo! I loved it soooo much!!! Kayden ...Swoon! The world Michelle created is very interesting dark and ugly but interesting. I love how she brings beauty to a world that was filled with such non sense. It's a miracle Savannah and Kayden find each other and hold on to each other as strongly as they do.
I cried for the pain that Kayden has to endure in his life but rejoice because he has found someone worth living for. In short I fell in love with the dynamic between Savannah and Kayden. It is simply beautiful.
This book is about survival of love not just survival for living but for being accepted for who you are and still being able to have love in your life. I loved it! Michelle did an excellent job in giving her characters a fighting chance in a world that looks down on them. As for the ending... Well I don't want to give anything away but yeah I cried, and that is all I am going to say about it. You have to get this book. No wait not just this book but you have to grab the series because I know that you are going to fall in love with Kayden just like Savannah did and just like this Fairy did!

This novel is the 2nd in the In Chains series. Consistent with the 1st novel, I enjoyed the dystospian angle to the romance. The situation the author created (enslaving a portion of the population) is shocking and yet, similar acts have happened in our past and probably will in the future.

In the series, a human and slave fall in love. In this book, the story starts with both of the individuals imprisioned in a slave facility. The slaves are treated horribly, like animals. At the same time, you see how the guards manipulate and use their positions to control the slaves. Quite ugly, actually.

Again, I think the concept is interesting. The series is told in first person, which works fine for me. In this book, though, the point of view changes, but the story is still told in first person. It took me a few switches to adjust to that, but I do think it works well.

If you liked the 1st one, you'll definitely want to read the 2nd.

After hosting this book on my blog during a recent tour, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I recently purchased and read Locked Together, devouring it over the course of one night. It was everything the premise promised it would be and then some. I haven't read book 1 yet, but I will soon. Michelle Abbott is a talented, creative writer.

This was a different story line that I was not used to, but the story sucked me in. The second installment was by far the best. This was a continuation of Savannah and Kayden's story. Savannah takes the blame for her Ex and ends up in the pound with Kayden.

You will fall in love with their love story and which I am pleased with, another a great ending to the story.

From memory this has quite a clever plot twist - anyone with neanderthal dna is automatically enslaved.

The continuation od Savannah and Kayden's love story, where they find themselves torn from the sanctuary of Savannah's brother (and Kayden's master) Simon. Instead, they endure the harsh reality of 'the pound' and trying to protect each other from the brutalities whilst Simon endeavours to argue for their release.

I still find Kayden rather immature for a leading man, however he does seem to be growing to become the man Savannah wants him to be and the epilogue is memorable.

I read this some time ago probably last summer, and enjoyed it. Thought I had left a review upon completion but it seems not.

This story takes over from the ending of "In Chains" and I am sorry that the plot did not work for me as well as the first book. The fact that Savannah, a human, would be allowed to be a prisoner in the Pound with the rest of the population, which were slaves, did not seem realistic in any way. The conditions of the Pound were well described. The punishments were harsh and difficult to read. I know that throughout history humans have been beyond cruel to others, yet it is still disturbing to read. All in all it was an enjoyable read and well-written.
Again, there were too many, too long, and too explicit sex scenes.

Review of Locked Together by Michelle Abbott

Locked together is book two in the series. You do need to read book one in order to understand where this book is, otherwise it will be like a cross-country trip with Tom-Tom, you’ll get to leave Indianapolis three times. (True story, thanks Tom-Tom) It’s quite confusing, frustrating, and you’ll be lucky if you don’t strangle whomever you are traveling with. Wars have started over less, so save some trouble and read book one first, okay?

I really enjoyed book one. I thought that the storyline was more on the original side than anything I had recently read when it came through. It was a bit on the “soft” side considering it was about slavery and forbidden love, but it was worth the read. Now, book two picks up where book one left off. We have Savannah feeling horrible that the love of her life, Kayden (the slave), was sent back to be retrained at the Compound. (The Compound is where slaves are born and trained.) Instead of going to jail (you’ll just have to read book one to know why) she picks going to the Compound instead so she can be with her true love Kayden.

I’m slightly less than excitable about this book. The reason being the naivety that made Savannah lovable in book one, really annoyed me in book two. It was obvious that “humans” didn’t view the “neanderthals” as people at all on the outside of the Compound so it shouldn’t have shocked her that they were treated worse than rats in a cage. I mean, come on already.

And the completely sweet, endearing amazement that Kayden had in book one that a human could love a slave?! It was so over the top in this book that I wanted to cry in frustration. Their relationship was just over-wrought with flowery confessions from him and out of the blue carnal desires from her. I mean who really feels like humping while in the worst kind of jail cell imaginable with a couple “troublemaking” slaves to watch. Sounds like a fun go round eh?

Now as for the story as a whole. It had a ton of potential. It could have taken the dark erotic genre by storm and been what all other authors in the genre aspire to be, but at every turn it felt like the author got scared of where she was going and backed out before it went there. It was a confused and jumbled storyline that really left me feeling bereft. I will go ahead and let you know that the ending for the book made finishing the story/series worthwhile. I’m always game for a good HEA and Savannah and Kayden get theirs. It’s just the getting there that was bumpy.

I give the storyline in this book three stars and the smutty parts are 2 steamy-ish panties. Not quite damp… but not bone dry either.

See this review on my blog: http://blueeyebooks.blogspot.com/2014...

Thank you to the author, Michelle Abbott, for gifting me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! This is the second book in the In Chains series (I reviewed the first book HERE).

Once again, I rated this 4 stars simply because it's a very good book, but it just wasn't 5 star material for me.

The ending was rather abrupt although that epilogue wrapped things up nicely! I actually liked the way it ended (sorry I can't say more... spoilers!). It was a nice change from other dystopian books that feel the need to ALWAYS end that way. So that was awesome! However, I felt like Savannah's little side thing at the end there was sort of an after thought. Maybe move it up 2 or 3 chapters?

Also, there was more background and world-building in this book which was good (I mentioned in my last review that there wasn't much world-building in the first book). It wasn't a whole bunch but it did help me understand where the setting is and what the mindset in that world is.

I loved Savannah's character! She's such a different MC than I've seen - a rebel but still conforming to society. Not just a 'to the heck with it' character like the kind of MC's in other dystopian/alternate world books. She also helped to create a nice love story that isn't fluffy at all. I've read marshmallow romances and this is not one of those. This is more like... a lobster romance? I'm sorry, that's a horrible comparison but I can't think of anything else. It's a hard road and sometimes the lobster came back to life and tried to stab Savannah and Kaiden in the face and sometimes it was just plain deliciousness.

The Final Verdict:
Once again, a very addicting book with a lobster romance (I really need a better word for it..). I'm a bit conflicted about how much I liked the end but there was a lot more world-building and Savannah shone!
4 stars

3.5 Hearts

You will have to read book one ( In Chains ) to understand this book!

Savannah took the blame for something that Kayden did in book one and found out that she has a choice.

Instead of going to jail she was able to go to the pound. It's where the slaves are kept. And she will be able to

work off her time there. She can't find Kayden at first. And when she does she hardly gets to see him as he is

only able to eat once a day. With the horrible conditions in there she soon starts to regret her decision. Then

she gets herself thrown into the area where he is and things start to get a bit better because they are together.

But one guard wants Kayden and she will gladly torture them both to get her way. When the guard decides that

she is going to torture Savannah to get to him, Kayden plans their escape. Kayden and Savannah end up going

separate ways and although she tries to wait for him even after the things he said to her she begins to doubt their

love when months pass and he does not show up. She decides to move on.

My opinion:

I gave this book 3.5 Hearts. I thought that what Savannah did was great in a way. She went to hell for

love basically. I think that that proved her love for Kayden yet all he does is doubt her. I think that the fact that

Savannah was a human and experienced what the slaves go through in that place that when she got out she could have

worked at making a difference. In my opinion, Savannah's brother Simon who was a huge jerk, made the biggest change

and grew more as a person. I thought that it was still a great story and I definitely recommend reading, there are still

many great aspects to the book. I realize that it was more about Savannah and Kayden's love story then the slavery, I just

feel that there could have been so much more.

Fast read. I enjoyed the actual story in both halves, and, truly, both halves should have been just one book in my opinion. There are some irritating typos, and the story-telling is a little bit immature with logical flaws... That said, if you don't concentrate on it too much, and go with the story, the story as a whole is fun in a dark sort of way. Interesting in some bizarre way I can't quite determine.

3.5 stars for this one - I loved the first book, found some of the violence a bit too disturbing in this sequel ( yes, I'm a sook - I don't like my favourite characters to be in pain!) and I was a little disappointed with the ending. There was something I thought Savannah might accomplish that never even came up ...

All in all still quite a quick page turner and if you loved the first book you must read this one too.

I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED IN THE WAY BOOK WAS WRITTEN BUT OH MY BOOK 2 WAS PERFECT. EASY TO GET LOST IN THE STORY, GREAT FLOW WELL WRITTEN. THE STORY CARRIED ON FROM WHERE IT LEFT OFF IN BOOK 1 IN CHAINS. IT WAS A GREAT STORY THAT SHOWS TRUE LOVE CONQUERS ALL. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TO NEW READERS.
