Louise Daphne Bagshawe was born on 28 June 1971 in England, UK. She attended local all-girls Catholic schools near her family home in Surrey, before going to Oxford University in 1989. After graduating with a degree in Anglo Saxon and Norse, she worked as press officer with EMI records and then as a marketing official with Sony Music. On her 22nd birthday, her passion for writing was realised with a major publishing deal as Louise Bagshawe. She is the author of more than fifteen novels, published in more than eight languages. She is sister of the also writer Tilly Bagshawe.
Louise married Anthony LoCicero, and they had three children, but since June 2011, she is married with her second husband Peter Mensch. She lives in Northamptonshire with her family, and has been the Parliamentary Candidate for Corby and East Northants since November 2006, and became the Member of Parliament for Corby after winning the seat at the 2010 general election.
The heroines in previous Louise Bagshawes I've read have been slightly quirky, just "off-pretty" women trying to fit into a mould that wasn't designed for them. But Diana Verity, the eponymous Kept Woman (though she's not kept for long) starts out as blindingly beautiful and not awfully brainy, and her womanly curves (the requisite physical nonconformity) make her the object of pity among the skinny ewes of New York Society, and the object of lust among its rams.
There is a lot of graphic sex in this book, and Bagshawe writes it quite well, but even still I started skipping those scenes. Useful if you're looking for pointers on how to write steamy sex though.
The characters were an interesting cast, but I never quite LOVED any of them. Diana's husband was vile, even before his sexual peccadilloes came to light, and Diana's friends - the Wall Street Wives - were vacuous and vicious. The duplicitous Felicity was fairly predictable and charmless, and the only true friend got hardly any air time until she was needed.
The hero was all right, but I grew tired of his sexual antics, especially when he changed his rule about dipping his nib in the office ink. This resulted in a added tension toward the end, but it felt rather contrived to me.
Plotwise, I thought it was OK, and it kept me reading, but if I gave it some long hard thought, I could think of ways the story could be tighter, and both the hero and heroine made more likeable.
Enjoyed this book.Love the author's style of writing.Aurthor keeps you on your toes. Her books are adventurous yet realistic. This was my 1st book read from Louise Bragshaw collection....will definately read as many as I can.
I wasn't so sure I would like this book but I really did. I love the way Diana transformed herself and went from being this dependent gold digger to a genuine hard working woman and realising there was more to life than fancy dinners. I didn't think I'd see ernie fail but I did and it was all so great. Slightly inspired by Diana's character
I am surprised this book hasn't received wider readership. At the surface it may seem that the setting is very cliched, but meticulous research is apparent in every sentence. The author seems to understand the details of whatever she is talking about. The only problem that i felt was the transition between scenes. It felt abrupt and often managed to break the flow.
Diana Foxton nee Verity. Rich? Check. British? Check. Beautiful? Check. She is everything a media mogul needs. She throws the best parties in NYC and shops like there's no tomorrow. What happens though when Ernie Foxton, the so called media mogul starts cheating on her? 📚 I enjoyed this book thoroughly! I especially loved how feminism was portrayed. At the beginning Diana was a snobby rich girl who hated anyone that's a feminist. She thought it was better to marry rich than to work for it. I was really irritated by this, however, she matures later on in the book and she becomes one of the self made feminists that she hated. 📚 Enter Micheal Cicero. He's brash, blunt, sexy, brooding, and a self made entrepreneur. He works with Ernie for a little while, then has his dreams and hopes snatched right out of his hand. That doesn't stop him at all though and he keeps pushing through. He didn't get along with Diana even though they both were attracted to each other. 📚 All in all, the book had the juiciest gossip, the most perfect scandals, and the special love that we need. It was so different from the books I normally read and I loved it!
I found an unlikely heroine in Diana, making her a pleasure to imagine, but disappointed with Bagshawe's lack of depth in the male characters and the racial slurs were irksome. Overall it was lightly entertaining.
I loved this book and was definitely hooked more so towards the end. I thought there was no need to be so graphic in the love making scenes and adult thoughts. It seemed a bit too much. Overall, a really good book.
Езика, който използва авторката е много увлекателен. Единствено описнията на външния вид на Даяна идват малко в повече, но явно това е начинът на автора да ни покаже, че тя е главния герой и е много важно да се знае всеки един детайл.
Ok ish story, spoilt rich girl married money etc. finds her way as a self made woman eventually. A touch fifty shades with many more blow jobs. Killed some time while I read it
DUMB. DUMB. DUMB. SO DUMB IT HURTS. JUST SHUT UP. YOU'RE STUPID. NO MORE PLEASE! YOU DUMB B****
IF I DIDN'T HAVE TO READ THESE BOOKS FOR MY JOB - I WOULDN'T. BETTER CHICK LIT OUT THERE
This was the first book I read by her. It's so appallingly written that I was shocked.
So basically you have this shallow woman who is married to a wanna-be posh blond (typical), weak-chinned self-made rich dude who has an affair with a colleague.
She then falls in love with a poor tall, dark and handsome lawyer.
I really tried to finish this book but this was awful, I hated it after 10 pages, I kept at it and only got about 3 chapters in until I had to give up and drop it cuz I just couldn't continue. There was nothing exciting about it, I hated the characters from the beginning, I couldn't connect with them, they were so blah and empty and the tone of the book just seemed very one dimensional. I don't know if that was because of the premise or the emphasis being on money, class and just plain snobbery from the characters or just because at the time of the book it was the early 2000's and thats probably what prevailed back in that day but I'm so over that whole premise with books so that could've been a biased for me but either way bad book. Well, what I managed to get through anyway was bad.
I never stopped reading this book the moment I started it. I even let my thirst passed just to continue reading this book. I got obviously addicted to this. I can still remember, I didn't listen to my professor and just kept on turning the page into the next. I love the story and the twists. Although, the author didn't solve the issue on the last part about Tina (I wish she did) this is really a good book. I've learned a lot and inspired. Those who've wronged them served them right. I really hate Felicity. I just wish the author wrote more how Diana tore her ex-husband and friend.
I've felt so many emotions in this book but mostly I was excited. This is really a page-turner and you'll never stop the moment you start reading this book (for me).
Halfway along the book,I realized that I hated it a lot! The story changes 360 degree from a very happy bride to a disaster marriage! The last thing that I needed to read is a sadistic book. I loathed how spoiled and stupid Diana is acting in the book. How dumb can she gets? Not noticing that her best friends are fake and are secretly trying to ruin her marriage AND her husband is actually having an affair with his colleague. Everything is just so depressing that I can't even force myself to read it anymore.
I absolutely love this author, as I always know that when a read one of Louise's books, i know that I'm in for a treat. Pure indulgence on so many levels, it's got everything.
I loved getting to know all of the different characters and there own individual stories which you get to discover as you progress through the book.
If you haven't read a her books before, then I highly recommend that you do.
As I started reading the first couple of pages I realized... I had read this book before! With a name like Verity, it stuck out I suppose. I think I borrowed it from Marla when she first brought it back from the UK. It's not one of my faves but as far as chick-lit goes, it's standard. Satisfyingly everyone gets their just desserts and our heroine comes out all sparkly and new!
