Brian K. Vaughan is the writer and co-creator of comic-book series including SAGA, PAPER GIRLS, Y THE LAST MAN, RUNAWAYS, and most recently, BARRIER, a digital comic with artist Marcos Martin about immigration, available from their pay-what-you-want site www.PanelSyndicate.com
BKV's work has been recognized at the Eisner, Harvey, Hugo, Shuster, Eagle, and British Fantasy Awards. He sometimes writes for film and television in Los Angeles, where he lives with his family and their dogs Hamburger and Milkshake.
Of all the characters in Saga, ghost girl Izabel has become an afterthought; there isn't much she could do, she's incorporeal after all. But she proves that she belongs to this family of bad asses after taking on the Lying Cat. Poor Cat, it didn't stand a chance against her ghostly powers.
After reading the third volume of Saga, I can't help but wonder if BKV is emphasizing the rareness of Marko and Alana's relationship by ending at least one romantic tandem per volume. The first volume saw the end of The Will and The Stalk. The second saw the death of Marko's father. Now, Klara lost Heist and Gwendolyn and The Will's surprising romance is in jeopardy as well. Perhaps Marko and Alana will be together forever? Too soon to tell I'm afraid.
Another quality issue by BKV and Staples. It has become easier to forgive the mini-hiatus in-between arcs, as long as Staples continues to make the best art of her career.
*This review is for the entirety of the series so far.*
In simple words, I LOVE THIS SERIES!! It's so completely random with the variety of characters but that's what makes it so interesting. There're a few different story lines going on that sometimes makes you stop and have to remember what all happened before with that particular character but it doesn't take long at all to remember and then you're sucked back into this awesome story. I'll be finishing it as soon as I can get to it. I definitely recommend this to anyone. Seriously, go read this!
“But nothing warps time quite like childhood” ― Brian K. Vaughan, Saga, Volume 3
Story's going too fast, Will and Gwendolyn have barely had time to talk (in universe, not just to the reader) but they're deeply in love already, it's kind of starting to become a regular problem.
1. This series literally has the best covers. 2. It's like fantasy/superhero/love story/sci-fi/drama/comedy. All genres in one. 3. The art is captivating and tells a story. 4. The little side frames of Hazel's narrations is pretty great. 5. I feel like people will soon have Alana's haircut. And grow horns like Marko. 6. Basically all of the first and last pages of these are genius. 7. I need Gwendolyn's cape NOW. Can the illustrator just design clothes especially for me?? Kaythanks 8. OMG. The last page! Alana's longer hair is so cute!! And baby is walking! And I loved both of their outfits. 9. Poor Lying Cat's eye. :( 10. Aw!! The Will named Slave Girl after his sister. 11. Alana's flying moment was so great! I2. Lying Cat being unloved because he was the runt. :( 13. What’s going to happen to the Prince?! 14. Heist dying is just too much. 15. Can someone get baby Sophie a real outfit??
Damn. That last panel. So fucking adorable! I'm a little amazed that everyone is calling this slow. I think they're reading the wrong book - wait where is that from?? Nm ill think on that later. For right now everyone going on about this being slow clearly forgot what reading single issues are like. This isn't even par for the course this is still exceptional and I loved it. Now to wait until may....
It's extremely difficult to rate the individual chapters, therefore the following is a review of the third volume. In other words, chapters thirteen through eighteen.
I’m not the biggest fan of graphic novels and comics, yet something about Saga had me coming back for more. Both volumes one and two were strong three-point-five-star ratings, and I was convinced it would not be long before I handed out a four-star rating. Although volume three wasn’t quite a full four-star rating, it was so close I had to round my rating up.
With volume three of Saga, we are given chapters thirteen to eighteen and they are incredibly addictive. Everything I’d enjoyed about the prior books was amplified with this one, sucking me in ever deep. The story develops wonderfully, the characters continue to be amazing, and the emotions throughout are brilliant.
Bizarre in the best of ways, Saga is a series I will be following until the end – the first of the kind I will follow to the end.
This is a damn near perfect issue. First off, the cover features a stunning portrait of Lying Cat - a gorgeous, stately depiction of a fan favorite character.
The first major confrontation between Hazel and her pursuers comes to a head - this action sequence is perfectly paced, serving up tense drama while also furthering development of the characters. Of course Marko knows that his wife can do anything.
The denouement wraps up to this chapter of the story and hints at the next in Hazel’s life. The narration that closes out the chapter, paired with toddler Hazel departing the space ship is appropriately heartwarming.
Quietus storyline ends but how!! Very, very nice but heartbreaking, and so let's go ahead and keep on reading.
I have always loved comics, and I can and I have. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more. You should also read what you love, and I hope you will always love it. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics, Mangas, Mahwas, and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.
Writer: Brian K. Vaughan Artist: Fiona Staples Publisher: Image Comics Release Date: December 2013 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
Summary: The fallout of Alana and Marko’s confrontation changes everything. Loyalties are tested, relationships strained, and their family faces the hardest choices yet.
Review: Devastating and honest. This issue strips away all the fantasy trappings to show real emotional collapse. Beautifully drawn, beautifully written, and quietly brutal. It lingers long after you finish.
Seguimos.
In Saga #18, I get to see Alana using her wings to fly and she faces Marko's ex to help a friend or something. Oh, the injured Prince Robot IV needs to reboot and he's been missing in which the two reporters are willing to post. Plus when the family leaves Quietus and off on a different planet or comet, this is where I see Hazel walking for the first time.
