A terrifying and moving first novel from author Michel Faber, following the exploits of lead character Isserley as she cruises the roads of the Scottish Highlands, picking up hitchhikers and determining their worthiness... but for what?
immense confusion, followed by an intense lack of understanding, followed by more confusion, followed by the most profound dissatisfaction i’ve ever felt
There seem to be as many interpretations of this book as there are readers. To me it reads like a thriller but is in fact a searing indictment of our treatment of animals and our pathetic attempts to justify it by saying "they are not like us" when in fact they are exactly like us. That said. I just can't help seeing Isserley as a bit of a feminist hero, sorry Mr Faber.
