CEO closely follows 10 turning-point days during which Lowell Caldwell wrestles to introduce an industry-changing line of products and Caldwell Construction converts from private ownership to a publicly held corporation.
The third generation to direct the family business, Lowell relates to the spirit and values of the founder of the business, his grandfather. Though mild-tempered and trusting, Lowell doesn’t hesitate to throw a few punches or make tough decisions when the situation demands a show of his stronger side.
Set in Chicago and the North Shore suburbs, the novel rolls open the ways in which a wealthy businessman handles life at the top. At home he tries to keep in touch with his shocking 17 year-old daughter, precocious 14 year-old son and the mid-life oddities of his wife that keep him off-balance.
Both touching and traitorous characters come into and out of Lowell’s high-rise office. He deals with extortion, deaths, a mugging and major personnel changes.
While the novel depicts the critical operations of a major corporation, CEO is loaded with laughs.
