Siegfried
One of the Metropolitan Opera Guild's Opera Books series designed as part of their early educational mission, each volume is adapted from the original text by the well-known musical authority Robert Lawrence, and contains a vivid narrative of the opera's story, interspersed with bits of the actual scores of the favorite melodies, themes and arias, together with many scenes in beautiful color and black and white by distinguished artists.
Siegfried, the hero, son of Sieglinde, grew to be a youth of dauntless courage. Setting out to slay a fierce dragon who guarded the Ring of the Nibelung, Siegfried fashioned himself a wonderful sword and descended into the murky cave in which the treasure was hidden. Then, with the ring, secured, he passed through the magic fire to awaken the Valkyrie, Brunnhilde.
