A young girl who has been missing for eight months, suddenly reappears and commits a heinous murder. She claims not to know why she did it, or where she had been for the last few months. The girl's desperate parents hire private investigators, Jake and Annie Lincoln, to find the truth behind their daughter's disappearance, and why she would return and kill a stranger in cold blood.
An ex-con, who had seemingly turned his life around, becomes the next victim when a young boy shoots him, and then casually holds the gun to his own head, and pulls the trigger. An aspiring city councilor is executed in the same manner. None of the deadly murderers seem to be aware of their actions.
As the Lincolns race to solve the puzzle of why young killers are casually murdering without remorse, they are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy and become targets of a merciless assassin.

Rayven T. Hill was born in 1954 in Markham, Ontario. He has had a variety of occupations and careers since then, spending the last fourteen years as a computer programmer and web site designer.
His first novel, written in 1960, was an instant hit with his mother and one sibling. He then put his career as a novelist aside for half a century to concentrate on making a living, but has now ventured back into the world of writing.
His first real novel, Blood and Justice, was published as an eBook in June 2013.
Why would a teenager shoot a man in cold blood, in front of witnesses, and then claim she has no memory of it? Mind control or brainwashing – that was my guess from the start, and I was not proven wrong. It's at the start of “Justice for Hire”, third in the 'Jake and Annie Lincoln' series, and marks the start of a sinister spate of similar crimes. They may be part of a plan but the aim is completely nebulous for most of the book. When it does become clear it is not particularly believable. The author, in an Afterword, notes that it is based on experiments carried out by the Canadian government (among others). Jake and Annie's investigation goes exactly nowhere until (a) they track the approximate location of a radio receiver (according to Google this is not easy to do) and (b) take a leap of faith and stake out a road. That, of course, allows them to swoop in and foil the dastardly plot. And there you have the gist of it. Jake and Annie are likeable character but the writing is often stilted and the plots are far from memorable or original. 3 Stars.
The stories are entertaining but somewhat hard to believe. Since a private detective cannot carry a concealed weapon in Canada, he or she must depend upon other methods. Too risky in my opinion! Can the Lincolns continue to survive on good luck? Is it worth the risk when they have a young son to consider? Guess I'll cool off from the "Justice" series for awhile
Another well-plotted mystery by Rayven Hill. Jake and Annie Lincoln are becoming two of my favorite literary detectives. This adventure centers on a string of apparently unconnected, senseless killings in which the assassins then kill themselves, leaving no clues for the police.
Great book. Third of the series I have read so far. They are well written with strong characters. They keep you wondering what will happen next. Now on the the next one.
This book has a decent plot and good main characters. The story flows well and at points can be a page turner. It probably could have used a little more action.
When a young woman who has been missing for months suddenly shows up and kills a total stranger in cold blood the police are puzzled. The girl’s parents hire private investigators Jake and Annie Lincoln to prove her innocence, despite the fact that there was an eye witness to the crime. When two more strange murders occur, this time with the perpetrators committing suicide, the case takes on a strange aspect. Very quickly, Jake and Annie find themselves in the crosshairs of a relentless assassin. Justice for Hire by Rayven T. Hill is a fast-paced murder mystery that explores the fall out of secret government mind control experiments, now in the hands of a greedy mad man. A good theme, but unfortunately it’s weak on police procedure and tends to be a bit too choppy in places. Normally authors succumb to the sin of over writing, but in this case, more would have been better. In addition, some of the police procedure needs better researching. For instance, after the first murder, the girl is arrested, but she’s not tested for drugs until the PIs suggest it, which is not the way such things are normally done. In addition, the ME’s actions are totally inconsistent with the way such things are normally done, even by less than competent MEs. A good story that could be made better with a bit more research and more descriptive, less choppy, writing.
This is a must read! The author has done his research, I was hooked from the first chapter. If you've ever heard about our governments experiments in the use of mind altering LSD you won't want to miss this one! Even though the storyline is fictional you're going to be amazed by the author's realization in the subject matter. You should definitely check this book out. Lots of suspense in this book with a unbelievable ending.
It's an okay book but I can't help but feel it would be better if Jake and Annie's relationship were more believable. They've been together for well over ten years and are still all lovey dovey. Plus they work together and so are around each other almost 24/7 with no big arguments or disagreements. Plus I feel like Jake is a big oaf and googly eyed where Annie is concerned. They need to be equals.
'Justice for Hire' is another thrilling book in a great series. The storyline is very intriguing and the truth behind it is disturbing. It's hard to imagine the terror that went on in the name of 'research' by governments. But it does make for a great read. The way the story played out was full of thrilling scenarios and some great action. The characters are, as always, great. Jake and Annie are quite the detective duo. I look forward to reading more.
The story in itself is ok, but as a continuing series of the Lincolns, it has become stale and repetitive. One glaring error is that it's mentioned that the son goes to school, but the date is sometime in August which I assume would be summer. Also, how many times can Jake "lay rubber" with the car. I would assume he would need new tires weekly. And I don't know of any police department that would share that much info with private detectives. All in all, a good idea gone stale.
A quick read, husband/wife detective team solving a strange murder mystery.
A teenager walks into an office and shoots the owner dead. She says she didn't do it even though she has the gun and there are witnesses. Then another killing happens and the teenage killer commits suicide. Local cops are perplexed. Interesting plot line, a bit on the crazy side.
Just another fantastic Jake and Annie Lincoln mystery by one of the most amazing authors, Rayven T. Hill. This author knows how to tell a story that culminates in a fantastic conclusion. Do yourself a favor and read his books. Each and every one of them is fantastic.
I enjoyed this book and will continue to the rest of the series. Amazing what our government did doing the 50s and 60s on mind control. I'm hoping they really abandoned the project. Hum...CIA quit?
Enjoyed this book very much. Good writing. Good suspension. Vivid story lines. Believable story and believable characters. Wish life would work out that good conquerors bad ever time.
Script could have been more entertaining. Was very monotonous stringing story lines along. To predictable. Not believable. Would not read again or recommend as a good read
I found the story to be very predictable and not much of a "mystery" as described. I did not find myself wanting to keep reading to see what happened until the last 20 or so pages. A bit disappointing.
I like Annie and Jake, but I would be surprised to find a real comparable couple of private eyes. For the most part they are intelligent, but also bumbling into illegal breaking and entering. I like that the basis of this book is based on a true story.
A quick and fun read. If you do not care for wordy, descriptive writing and just want action, this book is for you. Lacks depth but sometimes it is good to be entertained without putting forth any effort.
This is the second book I have read by this author. Was just as interesting as the first one I read. Very good at following the story line, therefore you don't lose interest.(Although I did lose sleep as I couldn't put it down.
Another chance to step into the lives of private investigators Jake and Annie Lincoln. While they seem like your ordinary, run-of-the-mill next door neighbors, their lives are anything but!
Very interesting read. Different than most murder mysteries in that we delve into 50’s-60’s mind control experiments that Hill has brought to life. Jake and Anne keep you turning pages as a great story unfolds. 5
I am in awe of Rayven T. Hill! I loved this series, and will definitely seek her out when looking for this type of read again. wholeheartedly recommended!
Excellent mystery story. The storyline is great. I read this book from beginnIng to end in two days! Waiting for the next book by Hill. I know it will be great.
