The Fabulous Book of Functional Activities for Occupational and Physical Therapists: Incorporating Safety, Education and Cognition in Your Treatment Plans
For 2 years, I taught a seminar educating therapists on how to enrich their therapy sessions either individually or in group settings. The focus was on maximizing groups and how to incorporate Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy. My goal was for therapists to walk away from the course understanding how to incorporate groups into their therapy sessions along with having a larger “bag of tricks” to bring back to their settings that were easy, economical, and fun. The therapists who attended the course also brought their own bag of tricks with them, and together, the bag turned into a suitcase that I carried with me from city to city. This book is an accumulation of everything I learned along the two years. This book will not provide therapists with any scientific research supporting why improved cognition improves balance, gait, or increased ADL performance. There are plenty of articles to support these beliefs. This book is designed to give therapists information, fresh ideas, and activities that they can start using immediately in their settings using the equipment they have or making a small trip to the local dollar store. I hope this book will help you enrich the lives of the populations you serve as well as make the days a little more fun. Good luck and remember how much you make a difference!
