Survivor of an explosion that killed his buddy, former Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal tech Billy Everrett doesn't believe he deserves a life of his own.

More about the contemporary romance Aloha series:

Chris Keniston's love of a good story and frustration with the end of a well known author's romance best seller, drove her to pen her own works of romance and fiction.

The popular beach read themes of small town and Hawaii beaches blended with the story of a single dad, lost love, and a surprise son have landed the first in the series, Aloha Texas, on the Kindle top military list and made the contemporary romance novel a reader's choice.

Almost Paradise is the fifth romance novel for Chris and the second book in the Aloha series. Continuing with the well loved themes of Hawaii beaches and former military heroes, Almost Paradise explores love, marriage, babies, and life after war for a wounded hero.

Currently working on the third book in the Aloha series, Chris is having fun with the next change coming to the regulars at the Big Island Dive shop.

A native New Yorker, Chris Keniston was on her way to Australia when she fell in love with North Texas. Little did she know the balmy seventy-degree October days would turn into fry-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk heat in August!

Twenty years later, she started scribbling short stories about her favorite TV shows, giving them lives more to her liking - and the elusive happy ending. Not long after, a dear friend dragged her to a local writers’ meeting. After winning multiple writing contests and making the finals in the Romance Writers of America’s prestigious Golden Heart contest, she now spends her days, and nights, writing contemporary romantic fiction with lots of emotion, plenty of surprises, and, of course, the happily ever after.

Chris lives in suburban Dallas with her husband, two human children, and two canine children. Though she loves her puppies equally, she admits being especially attached to her German Shepherd rescue named Gunny. After all, even dogs deserve a happily ever after.

This was quite a good book that I highly recommend. You will benefit greatly by starting at the beginning of the series.

This is a story about Angela Carson whose life doesn't seem to be going as planned. All she has ever wanted is love, a husband and a few children. It just hasn't happened yet and she fears it never will. She needs to make a new plan and figure out what she wants most in life and whether she will go after it. She is a realtor by trade and for two years she has been ga-ga over Nick whom we met in book one. He had been with just about every other woman on the island but never showed an interest in her. She always wondered why but she is past that now and is becoming very good friends with Kara, Nick's new bride.

What she never noticed since she was blind to anyone but Nick was Nick's business partner Billy. Billy is the sweetest, caring guy you would ever want to meet and he took over the Dive shop when he left the military after he had worked beside his dad since he was a kid. Billy is a military vet, who was special forces specializing in defusing bombs especially while diving. He had to leave the service after sixteen years when a teammate tried to diffuse a bomb after taking strong pain meds and Billy lost his foot. He gets around fine with his prosthesis and has adjusted well to all the changes it brought to his life.

Billy has one major problem. He blames himself for his friends and teammates injuries and one death so he has decided to punish himself. Since the man who died left a wife and two kids Billy has refused to be in a relationship, will not allow himself to love or have a wife and children...no hook ups either because he's not allowed to enjoy anything. He definitely has a type of survivors guilt but he takes on the responsibility for every man that was on his team. He gets it in his head that they hate and blame him but he is so wrong. He hasn't answered a call, text or email in three years. He's also gone so far as to insinuate himself into his teammate's widow's life and family staying with her for months at a time to clean the gutters, mow and be a substitute dad. That's his duty, right?

When Angela has a medical complication Billy is right there for her. He finally offers his aid to help her achieve her dreams. He just doesn't realize they are his dreams, as well.

A great read!

3.5 stars. One of my sweet and cheesy rereads when I need one. The writing isn't great but I like the issues the couple face and the kindness of all the characters. I've read the whole series but this is the one book I've read several times.

Great second book in the series! Two traumatized individuals end up forgiving themselves & finding a way to make their relationship work. Along the way, we gain a better understanding of characters introduced in the first of the series & where their lives are. The characters are complex & well developed. The plot takes unexpected turns here & there but the flow is perfect. This book will work as a standalone even though it's part of a series.

This is book two in the Aloha series by Chris Keniston. When I picked it up, I was looking for brain candy. It’s the end of the school year and I need pure entertainment. That’s it, no stress, no drama, no deep thinking. I got what I was looking for and a bit more. There’s no heavy drama, no intense intrigue. There’s just lots of fun, feel-good vibes, and a teeny bit of drama at the end.

Everyone thinks Billy is suffering from PTSD after his tour of duty and the accident. He may be, but it’s more a case of “If Joe can’t, neither should I.” mentality. Angela has her own problems that are getting in the way of her forever dream. Can they figure it out together? Billy wants to be the guy who can give Angela what she wants, but can he walk away afterward?

This is a feel-good story that’s a good addition to the Aloha series.

Almost Paradise: Aloha Series Book 2 is by Chris Kineston. This is the second in the series on Kona Island. This time, it is about Billy and Angela.
Billy had been injured in Afghanistan and had come home to Hawaii. Here, he ran a tour boat operation that he bought from his Father. He was home to stay; but he stayed out of the boat and out of the water. No one seemed to be able to get through to him. His best friend, Nick, worked for him and took up the slack. However, the business just kept growing.
Angela was Billy’s manager’s friend and came into the shop at various times. She really was beautiful, said Billy to himself”. As he gets to know her, he falls in love with her. Can he change, even for her?

This one was boxed with three other books, all worth the read. Almost Paradise by Chris Keniston deals with the owner of a sea diving shop, Billy and the ever-present Angela, a real estate broker. Billy is coping just fine, thank you. He's not been diving since a explosives incident cause him his foot. Angela is dealing with her own problem, wanting to have kids and not finding the right man. The way that the author explores the character's emotional state and needs while pairing a couple together give you plenty to think about but don't forget the surprise twists to the plot. Those will keep you turning the pages.

The second book in the series. It's filled with finding your passion agaon, letting go of those things that hold us back while Billy and Angela get to know one another better and start to realise that they mean more to one another. Light and easy to read with enough twists and turns to keep you turning the pages and to not let it be to cliché until you have finished the book.

Sweet

Billy has been dealing with survivor's guilt following his stint of duty as an explosives expert in the navy. A man of honor and integrity. He wasn't prepared for sweet Angela, who was a bit too needy in my book, yet, maybe that's what helped pull him out of his funk. Now that I've been drawn into this great group of people, it's on to the next one in the series.

This installment in the series is where you really get to meet the cast of characters associated with the Big Island Dive Shop and Billy "King Kona" in particular. This novel shows not only a romance blossoming between two people, but it also displays the camaraderie that surrounds them both, for the former navy men, but also for the women around the dive shop and the spouses.

Second book in the Aloha Series, Almost Paradise does it again in a big way! Chris has written a whale of a love story about two traumatized people who keep on going, yet have not really come to terms with their issues. This plus ignoring the problem has a huge effect on their lives.

Billie Everett is Nick Harper’s Dive Shop partner, best friend and former Navy Diver. Billie was injured on a Navy Dive Operation that took the life of another diver. This was compounded by a below knee amputation and PTSD. Angela Carson is a Realtor that used to have a huge crush on Nick, but has graciously moved aside for Kara, Nick’s Fiancé. Angela wants a family and children, but is having female problems which she ignores. Add to this she has no current boyfriend and her female clock is ticking.

Angela and Billie have the same circle of friends throwing them together on a regular basis. Toss together with intrigue of a long time dive client’s sudden demise, sprinkle with strong attraction and you have one dynamite story from beginning to end!

I can’t wait to read the next one!

Almost Paradise is a fantastic addition to the series

This time the co owner of Big Island Dive, Billy, gets to have his story in the Aloha Series and you will definitely fall in love with Angela.

Billy lost his leg while trying to disable a bomb in Afghanistan but he also lost his best friend, Joe, for which he blames himself for his death. Since the accident, he refuses to go diving or skipper any of the boats. Because of the popularity of the children/junior dive class, he must get over his fear so that the business can expand.

Angela is a good friend of the office manager at the shop and has just been given bad news in her quest for marriage and family. Throw in some intrigue surrounding one of the dive shops best customer and his children, and a drug cartel into the mix and you have a fantastic book.

All Angela wanted since she was a young girl was to fall in love, get married and have children. With her biological clock ticking quickly, Angela isn't sure that she can achieve all her dreams. Billy, a co-owner of the Dive Shop and former Special Forces diver and explosive expert, won't go in the water or a boat. With the dive shop business growing faster than they can find dive instructors, Billy buries himself in the office instead. After Angela passes out in the Dive Shop, Angela and Billy slowly start building a friendship. I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I enjoyed this sweet romance. I also liked how Billy's work with a boy visiting for the summer affected both of them. I recommend this sweet book and series.

I loved Almost Paradise as much as I have loved the other two books in the series. Some authors just know how to make characters touch us and become important to us; Chris Keniston is definitely one of those authors. The characters in the Aloha Series own my heart. They feel so real that they could be friends and other people I know. The taste of suspense that touches each stories just adds to wonderful character based plots. Romance the way I want to see it. Life isn't easy and people serious face problems, but there is always support and hope and lots of sexual energy. There is sex but it does not dominate the book.

Wonderful read!

I am loving these books! The love, friendships, the struggles that are being overcome! What a great group of friends! I don't want to give away the details! You need to read this to understand! This book makes you believe in the knight in shining armor and his white horse! Or Richard gere riding up in his white limo climbing the fire escape...when you read this book you will understand this reference! I can't wait for the next book in this series!!

This #2 in the Aloha series started out slow for me. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but suddenly I was involved in the storyline and with the characters. From that point on, I didn't want to stop reading.

These characters faced some very tough issues....from a biological ticking clock to a former miltary spec ops guy with probably PTSD and guilt about how others of his men were injured.

I continue tomenjoy this series, and I'm off to buy #3.

Learning from our mistakes

Great book. Billy has been in a self imposed exile from his former teammates since the accident had taken his friends life and left hm with only one leg. Angela Carson is dealing with a severe case of endometriosis. She has been told that she will have a short window to get pregnant. Billy is asked to be a guardian to the son and daughter of Tom Delucca who had died in a plane crash. Follow his adventure putting his life back on track.

I read the Kindle version of this and there was a very distracting amount of formatting issues. When two characters are having a conversation, each new line by one person is a new line or paragraph. I couldn't always differentiate who was talking.

And the punctuation left a lot to be desired.

BUT the story was nice, I suppose, and I mostly liked the characters, yada yada.

A quick read from my Nook with a free download of the three Aloha books. This centered on Angela and Billy. Angela wants a baby - and is approaching the age where that might no longer be possible. She also has endometriosis which makes it difficult to conceive. She and Billy, a veteran who lost a leg in the war learn the importance of living each day as it comes.

There is just no denying Chris Keniston's incredible writing skills. She can weave a story that draws in a reader with her life-like characters with their fun, drama and sweet HEA like no other. Billy and Angela's story is particularly touching and heart wrenching. This entire series is incredible!
