Sophia Renee Thibideaux doesn’t need anyone. With a business empire to rule over, men to admire her from afar, and a perfectly ordered, perfectly put together life, she’s content and in control. Until the right man turns out to be the wrong man, her business begins to morph into something horrendously tacky, and she finds herself stuck half a world away on a mercy mission to a friend in need. To further complicate matters, the odd pilot commissioned to translate for her as she does business overseas forces her to take a critical look at all she once thought to be true about life, herself, and God… all while speaking to her heart in a way no man has ever managed to do before. As everything changes very quickly around her, Sophie begins to consider not what she needs but what she wants. Will she have enough faith to step out and take it?

Another amazing book by one of my favorite authors. I have started reading through her books in order, after starting with a free book and getting totally hooked. I love the way characters from earlier books later get their own story. I didn't like Sophie in earlier books, but her character arc and growth (like Chloe's) totally won me over. Also, I loved spending time with Sara and Daniel and Ana Marie and Willem, not to mention Sophie's family members again. I love the blend of humor, spiritual and interpersonal conflict, adventure, and character journey found in every book. Try it, and see if you don't get as hooked on this story world as I am.
After being introduced to Sophie in Best Day Ever, I was curious to see what the author would do with this character. I enjoyed seeing her soften and realize how she wasn't truly living out her faith. I also enjoyed her interactions with Willem and the people in Namibia, specifically in the refugee camp.
That being said, I found her reaction to the situation with "Sophie's Choice" finances to be pretty hard to swallow. A great illustration of grace and mercy? Absolutely! But it felt like just that - an illustration, NOT something that would happen in real life.
I loved following Sophia on her trip to Africa and even though she followed God in her everyday life she realized on this trip how she always put her business and money first and not God. Here in Africa she learned so much about herself and the needs of so many people she was able to help. I loved that she fell in love and had such a softer side with the people around her both in friendships and in business.
Sophia Thibideaux is successful, wealthy and beautiful. The last thing she needs is a man. But when she ends up in Africa on a mission of mercy for a friend, she just might find out that the last thing she needs is just what she wants.
Sophia wasn't a terribly likable character in the beginning, but over the course of the story her growth both personally and spiritually made for an enjoyable read. All together it was a skillful mixture of quirky humor, poignancy, and spiritual truth.
This was a very fun and quick read. it took me a few chapters to really get into it, but once it got to the climax, I couldn't stop reading. I had mixed feelings about the main character but still enjoyed the book.
