Who is Brooke Carter if she's really someone named Claire? And who, then, is Claire?
First-grade teacher Brooke Carter has always considered her life perfectly normal. She grew up with loving parents and a happy childhood. Now she has embarked on a promising teaching career in Madison, Wisconsin, far away from her native California. But after an accident, Brooke begins having dreams and memories that make her think she was once someone else. Is this a result of her head injury, or could this other person, Claire, be real?
Brooke hires private investigator Adam North to help her find the truth about her past. But Adam is too thorough an investigator to accept the readily available answers and keeps digging. His quest for the truth about Brooke's identity takes them to South Carolina, where she learns she is not the person she was supposed to be. Brooke's life is turned upside down when she finds she's expected to become Claire once more. But whether she's Brooke or Claire, one thing is certain: Adam has won her heart. Yet is Adam the man she thinks he is? She soon discovers that not all the deceptions in her life have to do with her parentage, or happened in her past....
The book started off slow but not bad. spoilers below
The whole storyline of the heroine thinking the hero was married was stupidest. I figured out the pictures were his sister and nephews from the beginning. I did think he might have been divorced because of the ring. It could have been easily explained if she simply asked him. I guess it wouldn't be a normal book without some kind of conflict. It basically ruined the boom for me because I figured it out and I had to read about the heroine being stupid throughout the rest of the book. I started skimming through the rest of the book just to see when they got back together. I had to wait until the end and I was left thinking she did not deserve him. Also keeping a man from knowing about his baby is an all time low for me. It doesn't matter if you haven't told anyone else. I felt like she was just going to not tell him just because she was mad at him. I would not recommend this book.
