Maya Bennett thought she was an average widow with a "normal" life. That is, until she meets Indigo - a man with an unbelievable story that she can't help but believe. He's a man on a mission to save her and her son from an evil she couldn't have imagined in her wildest dreams. In the process she learns that while time may heal old wounds, it can also cut the deepest of them all…
From debut novelist Amy L. Boukair comes a thrilling adventure of life and death. A story about true love that can span all of space and time, and the lengths that some will go to protect it.
Amy L. Boukair is a short story author, published novelist, and an occasional poet. Her first self-published novel - the time travel romance Indigo, was well received by readers and reviewers alike from around the world. When she's not working on her new urban fantasy novel The Mage Who Plays With Shadows, she can be found singing karaoke, gaming, working on a home improvement project, hanging out with her special needs son, or listening to an audiobook.
I first read a snippet of this book on a website called WEbook - Two YEARS ago! I was so enthralled with the excerpt, I made a point of discovering the author's name and seeing if I could find more of Indigo/other work by her on-line, but I couldn't find anything more than the small excerpt I'd alread read. Undeterred, I ended up and sending the author a message to say a) This story is GOOD and b) Where can I read the rest of it/buy it? Unfortunately, the answer to the latter question was 'nowhere' because the book wasn't yet finished. So all I could do was strongly encourage Ms Boukair to do so, and hope I'd get the chance to read the finished story at some point in the future. (Which, considering the time-travelling aspect of this story, was rather apt!)
Two years on, I get a message out-of-the-blue to say that 'Indigo' is finally available on Amazon and, needless to say, it was an automatic 'buy' for me.
So glad I did! The book as a whole is just as intriguing/engaging as that first snippet. Its evolved into a story that I devoured in two days (would have been quicker - but the family insisted I break-off reading to feed them every now and again!).
Indigo is a satisfying blend of sci-fi/fantasy/adventure/action and romance. The romance isn't enough to make male readers turn green, but just enough to make romance enthusiasts (like myself) sigh in appreciation. An impressive blend of genres that will appeal to readers of either gender AND to a wide age-range (Young Adult through to Adult).
If, like me, you enjoy stories with strong characters, a fascinating plot and enough action to keep you turning those pages... then I can highly recommend 'Indigo'. And I can only hope that this author has plenty of other stories waiting in her imagination too - because this was an entertaining read - and as a debut novel, the chances are good she'll only get better!
I'm always a bit afraid when I encounter a book that includes any type of time travel. Why? Because it's usually full of too much science stuff that my little brain can't comprehend, or it avoids the science and creates a completely unbelievable picture. Good news! Amy L. Boukair manages to make it easy to understand and accept as a possible scenario!
Indigo is also filled with interesting characters, some of which surprise you midway through the story so much that you suddenly begin to hope they will be seen in upcoming stories. The main character is not your typical damsel in distress. She's spunky. She's outspoken.
The storyline is interesting, the plot unique, and it's just full of action!
Personally, it took a little while for the story to pull me in. It was a little slow going at first, but I think this is important considering how much "sudden" information is dropped on the main character-- especially due to the concept of time travel. By just under midway through this story, I was to the point of not wanting to put it down. I was interested enough in the idea of the story and what was happening to want to keep reading, right from the start... but things really pick up about halfway through when you begin to really understand why the hero has traveled through time. It's worth the wait, and worth finishing. The middle picks up the pace and the end packs the punch.
For those easily offended by language, there are some words in there that you might object to... but it's not overly done. Profanity is kept true to the characters and situations and not just blasted at you on every page. And intimate situations were tastefully written without losing their steam factor.
I think this was a very good story for a debut author and expect to see more from her in the future. In fact, I'm hoping for a spin off based on my favorite character in this book. I've already dropped a hint about that. ;)
I'd recommend it to anyone that likes an action packed story that is a fairly quick read with a satisfying ending. Especially if you dig time travel and the unique situations that come from that idea.
* I was given a free copy of the e-book in exchange for a fair and honest review. That said, I checked the amazon price for the Kindle edition, and I'd pay that to read it. *
I was snared by this book in the first few pages, and was really intrigued by the mystery that presented itself in the character of Indigo, an intriguing man who seems almost too good to be true. The adventure is gripping, and we soon learn that Maya, a single mom in a dead-end job, is in serious danger.
The story is told from Maya’s point of view and is quite internal. We learn a lot about her feelings, her past relationship with her deceased husband, and her strong feelings for her nine year old son, Lucas. She is mystified by her instant attraction to Indigo, a passing acquaintance, until he saves her from a car accident. After that, the story revolves around the, to Maya, incredible story of time travel that he gradually reveals to her as they flee the time-traveling villains who are stalking them.
The book is well written. I had some issues with the punctuation, and believe it would benefit from one more round of copy editing, but that did not detract from my enjoyment of the story.
The plot is, unfortunately, predictable. About half way through, I had no doubt about how it would turn out, in the general sense. It was also reminiscent of other popular time travel adventures. Since the romance was integral, and it was told in the first person, there was less suspense about the outcome of the story. I did enjoy the romance, though, and thought the characters of Indigo and Lucas were the most memorable of the crew. I had some trouble reconciling the internal thoughts of Maya with her external actions. She did transform during the course of the novel, but since the plot was set up so she had to, I did not completely buy into it in the emotional sense. However, for those who enjoy romance/adventure, this book is well worth reading
i received this book in exchange for an honest review.
when i first picked up the book i was not expecting much. i am not a big fan of time travel books but this one just got me! amy has a way with words. her writing just pull you in to the story and there is no out. let me begin with the cover. the cover is plain and dark. apt to the story. when one reads the book they come back to the cover and realize why it was designed like this. good work. the lead character is a very energetic young woman. i loved the writing too. Amy is a good story teller.
overall the book is a very good read. i shall definitely check out more books by here and post a review.
Although this is not my usual genre to read, I absolutely adored this book! What a great cast of characters! From the very beginning I was captured by Indigo and his persona. Maya, Lucas, Max and Kev become like family and one can hardly wait to see what is happening on the next page. I would absolutely recommend this book for any reader, especially those who like a little romance mixed in with adventure.
I received this book from the goodreads first reads program. Once I got the chance to sit and read this book I couldnt put it down. This was a unique look at love. The love of a mother for her son, a son for his mother, and the love of a man and a woman. The notion of love transcending time was taken to a new level and I loved every word of it.
Indigo by Amy L. Boukair was a surprisingly good read. It was suspenseful with a heavy dose of romance. Shades of The Terminator haunt this book. I rate it a four-star read.
