An excellent short book that summarizes Rome's history from a small city-state to a massive empire that rules the Mediterranean. If you want a good short book to understand Rome, this is the one.

It's not just a book about Rome's armies marching across the known world. But also it's culture, politicians, writers, poets and Greek influence on Rome. It's book about evolution and inspiration. From a Sulla to Caesar to Augustus. From, Greek influence to Roman influence. From a city state to an empire.

Great overview of the rise of Rome. The author writes well and his exhaustive knowledge of the time is apparent! Cannot wait to read his larger History of the Ancient We soon!
