The key would unlock his future and the safety of his kingdom, but he never imagined the sorceress would unlock his heart…

When antiques restorer, Rowena Lindstrom, purchases an armoire containing a hidden key and a “magic” mirror, she believes the handsome warrior prince on the other side has to be some sort of joke. But she can't deny they seem connected by more than just the key and, as her love for Prince Caedmon grows, she agrees to join him in his realm. Prophecy intervenes in a way neither of them could have ever expected. Lost and alone in the Austiere Kingdom, Rowena struggles to find her place, and though she fights the heated advances of the dangerous Prince Caedmon, the attraction between them brings challenges much deeper than her troubled heart can recall.

After two torturous years held captive in the dungeons of Seviere’s Keep, Prince Caedmon returns home with more than just lash marks lacing his back. He now retains the secret behind the key, and is the only one who understands its grim connection to his beloved Rowena. Yet their enemies to the north are merely one of many obstacles determined to see them fail and, to escape the clutches of the evil Wizard Gaelleod, Rowena and Caedmon must flee to the future―the one place his worst fears are confirmed. Though Rowena’s memories have returned, everything he loves stands to be ripped from his grasp.

Join Caedmon and Rowena as they embark on an epic journey bound by fate, and struggle to unravel the significance behind an age-old prophecy in The Golden Key Chronicles.

AJ Nuest does it again!!!! GAWD I love her books!!! Rowena's Key is such an adorable story. OMG! Can't wait for book 2.

What's to love about this book? Lovable heroine. HAWT, humble and generous-of-heart hero. Delicious sexual tension. A fun modern fairy tale. Wizards. A magic mirror. Snappy dialogue. Swoon-worthy love scenes (sexual and non-sexual). And just an all-around wonderful story!!!

Have fun! THANK THE TITS OF THE NINE we only have to wait 1 month for book 2!

Was it really so much to ask for one piece, to own just one tangible memory of the life she had lost?

Rowena is an antiques restorer. When she comes across an ancient armoire, she finds a key inside it with her initials and then begins a strange vision from inside the armoire. Rowena thinks that this whole thing is set up by her friend, Ollie, but truth is stranger than fiction.

Rowena finds out that it is a magical armoire and the vision inside of it is not because of the modern technology but it is a vision of another time and another world. To unlock the secrets, she must keep the façade up and may be then things would start to make sense.?

Without spoiling anything I'd say what an enchanting story this is! I was hooked from the start. Rowena is a likeable MC and I loved her inner thoughts and how she tries to solve the mystery.

How strange that, in the telling, a small part of his heartbreak eased.

I also liked Prince Caedmon and his inner thoughts. I found those to be hilarious. Romance was absolutely titillating. Writing is brilliant with poetic prose and I couldn't get enough. The only issue is that it is a short read but an excellent one at that. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

First impression? The story drew me in immediately. The POV is deep and active. I’m immediately in the head and life of the heroine, Rowena, in modern day, and I like her. I haven’t read She’s Got Dibs yet, but Jezzie in Jezebel’s Wish was a little rough around the edges, I had trouble liking her at first, but Rowena is immediately likable. Her discovery of the closet and the key draws me in, and what keeps me reading is discovering what, exactly, this thing is. Nuest leads us little by little, piece by piece, as the heroine herself figures out what this thing is. It honestly reminded me a bit of the first Narnia movie (sorry, never read the book).

And I have to say parts of the heroine’s point of view are frankly hilarious as she tries to understand what she sees when the closet opens. Case in point: from when she first meets Prince Caedmon: “You’d better be careful.” She wagged a finger at him. “Or I’m apt to get busy with some serious despoiling all up in here.”

*snort* I still can’t stop giggling at that. Every time I read it sends me into another fit. That’s a moment of genius right there.

And the hero, Prince Caedmon. Can I just say swoon? AJ has always written an excellent, swoon worthy hero. Mattie from Jezebel’s Wish is one I still haven’t forgotten. Caedmon is a hero struggling to find his own worth. The son of the king’s concubine, he isn’t the first son and I get the impression he’s treated as less than his brother Braedric. I’m drawn in by him, he’s hero material all the way. He has a good heart, wants to do the right thing, right down to asking Rowena what he can do to prove to her he’s truthful and trustworthy. So that by the time they start the ritual to open the portal, I’m almost screaming at the book. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping and praying that when he puts his hand on the glass, it’ll be him who opens it. And I knew going in that Caedmon was going to be the hero. But Nuest adds that moment of doubt and I’m still right there, fingers crossed. That’s good emotion.

The first time they realized they could touch each other through the mirror? Oh my. My toes curled. It was a tiny little moment. Such a small thing. He traces her features in the mirror, because he feels drawn to her. She feels it physically, and reacts and does the same. But it’s such a heart tugging moment. I can see the wonder cross their features, see the beginnings of something wonderful, see the walls begin to come down and the love begin to trickle in. Oh, this is the stuff I live for when I read a romance and AJ does it well.

Now, I’ll admit it. In the beginning, Rowena’s disbelief of what she sees and the way she would explain away what was happening went on a little too long for me. It got on my nerves after a while. I’ll even admit that this might be because I knew what would happen and I was anxious to watch it unfold. You don’t get much past me, even watching movies. Ask my family how many times I’ve ruined the movie. Lol But I also can’t say that it wasn’t realistic and that what it actually did was lead me further into the story. It serves its purpose.

That being said, by the time they finally begin to talk and the walls begin coming down and all that lovely romance starts trickling in…I didn’t give a fig anymore. Have I mentioned I’m in love with Caedmon?

Put this story in the backdrop that teeters between modern day and castle life way back when and as a lover of historical romance, I’m hooked. I adore castle romances and heroes in breeches wielding swords. Oh my. Watching the two of them earn each other’s trust and fall in love was sweet and wonderful.

I don’t usually read fantasies, but I may have to start, because this one was wonderful. It was like watching a Cinderella story come to life. Or living one. I will say the ending leaves you hanging, and normally, I don’t like that. I’m not fond of waiting for the next book to come out, but I’ve read AJ before, and I think she’s worth the risk. The other books are also written and scheduled and on their out, so I won’t have to wait long.

Okay so this is a fantasy romance. no more one than the other. is it mushy gushy lovey dovey? yeah, sure. is it focused on the fantasy? yes.
See, this is a type of story that I hardly ever read. fantasy I can do, romance not so much.
this story however, well this episode, sparks well. the writing is fantastic, the characters are built well that they don't act out against their personality. the plot moves well, no serious info dumps, and treats the reader like an intelligent human being who is introduced to this new world.
Better part of it, is that it switches views between the main characters and in doing so, creates a specific voice that does not stray. I want to go on about the story, I loved it. had I not gotten sick i'd have finished it in two days. it's an addicting read with a steamy ending and cliffhanger. so enough rambling. on to the next book

UPDATED REVIEW:
so as I stated above, this is a book that delivers what you expect. It has the romance, it has the conflict, and the resolution. Not many twists and turns, by the numbers kind of book.

BUUUT BUUUUT BUUUUUT

it's executed pretty well. The characters are fully developed (the main ones at least). You get a sense that these characters had a life before the writer decided to throw them into a story. It just happens to pick up at the moment when the story gets going for them both. In the end, it's the character that really matters, not so much the plot.
Well the plot is the key (hehe key), to the whole scenario. These two characters are separated by a mirror, and just thousands of years time difference. So it's their chemistry, and reactions to each other that drive the story. And it works, it works really well. It's believable without all the unnecessary fluff. Well the only fluff is the short moment of conflict between the two, but it's handled well enough, it tightens the bond between them, and it's funny.
This book ends on a cliffhanger though, so fair warning if you feel like you might be cheated with those kinds of endings. There's a whole series for this, and may work better having each book on hand before reading this.

CLICK ON THE BANNER TO ENTER TO WIN THE ENTIRE GOLDEN KEY SERIES ENDS MARCH 7, 2014...DON'T MISS OUT!

You have to love a book that has romance, fantasy, and a magical mirror in an armoire. Add to that a mysterious key, and dialogue, both mental and verbal that will make you laugh out loud one minute and practically swoon the next! Did I mention treachery and deceit from a wizard and a king? Yep, it’s in there, so is the intrigue between the two worlds that collide within the mirror. Rowena is a modern woman, educated, respected and successful in the world of rare and valuable high end antiques. She is also adorably snarky and vulnerable at the same time. Caedmon is on the other side of the mirror in another world, another time, a prince in his castle bedroom. He tells Rowena in his out-dated manner of speaking, how she possesses the key to bringing victory to an impending war that could end his father’s reign and devastate their kingdom. The twist is Rowena must give it willingly to a man worthy of her trust. The moment they discover they can actually touch through the mirror is magical.

Rowena’s Key by A. J. Nuest is a delightful contemporary fairytale romance! I think she must have her own magic, because as the tale progressed and Rowena and Caedmon felt the first stirrings of romance, I could feel their emotions, see them together and was telling them, “Just do it! Somebody go through the mirror!”

Ms. Nuest doesn’t miss a beat with this one, including a few twists at the end that run the emotional gamut from funny to “OMG, they did what? That’s the end?” Talk about a perfectly timed hook into the next book! Everything was all sunshine and rainbows and then, BAM…welcome to the dark side of castle treachery! Wonderfully written, with little touches of realism, and a few lighter moments, I like A. J. Nuest’s style and sense of timing, it’s spot on!

A smattering of authors have the ability to write in an elegant manner, every word chosen with care, every phrase created to elicit a sigh or a smile. AJ Nuest is one of those writers. She pens her stories with a sweeping elegance that reads effortlessly, yet I suspect is the result of hours spent pouring over dictionaries and thesauruses to pluck just the right word to create her vibrant visuals and breathtaking emotions. She is--to coin the phrase--a wordsmith.

One cannot read Rowena's Key without realizing this series has been a labor of love for this author. It's evident in every description, every emotion, every well-crafted character. This was not some quickly written story. No, this was well-planned and certainly well-written. Goodness, the author had me by the end of page one. I was thinking who would buy a piece of furniture online? And an antique, no less. I had to read on.

Since I am forever doing the dumbest things, I love reading about characters who are prone to making a mistake or two themselves. Show me their foibles and weaknesses. Make me care. Because Ms. Nuest loves her characters from the depths of her soul, she's able to make her readers love them, too. We quickly come to care for Rowena, the hard-working ordinary woman thrust into extra-ordinary situations and Caedmon, the embodiment of every little girl's dreams of prince charming and Ollie, the friend we all wish we had. What's not to love? I mean, really ladies, what a winning cast of characters! The author slowly leads Rowena and Caedmon into love, so slowly and sweetly it's romantic and classic...and breathtaking.

Please note this is a novella with approximately 109 pages. I point this out because some readers buy a book and don't realize that it's of short length and then give a terrible review because it wasn't a full-length novel.

I liked Rowena immediately. While I've never purchased a piece of furniture online, I have made a few purchases that were, well let's just say less than what they were advertised or pictured as. I could definitely identify with her feelings as she unwrapped her online purchase of an armoire from overseas.

Prince Caedmon was just as likeable. At a loss when he is chosen instead of his first born brother to woo the sorceress (Rowena), he steps up to do what he must in order to save his kingdom. Though he's a terrible poet and an even worse singer, he does both in his attempts to gain Rowena's favor. His poetry and the description of his singing had me laughing out loud.

I liked the premise of a mirror connecting the two worlds. The author does a fantastic job using this premise to build sexual tension between Rowena and Caedmon. The pacing is perfect for a book of this length. I didn't feel that it was rushed in any sense of the word. She allowed Rowena and Caedmon to come to know each other as people first which I appreciated. Some novellas are all about getting the couple to that "We love each other" stage that the plot is often lacking. That's not the case here. The story unfolds without that sense of rushed pacing. There is a bit of a cliff hanger at the end of the book, but it doesn't detract from the story itself.

I love a book that can make me laugh and still pulls at my heart. Rowena's Key is a perfect example of that kind of book. I will definitely be reading the other installments of The Golden Key Chronicles. (I've already purchased Book 2 - Candra's Freedom and Book 3 - Caedmon's Curse.)

I loved this book!!! It ends on a cliffhanger with the reader not knowing what to expect in the next book.

The heroine Rowena is an antiques dealer who has just purchased an armoire that was owned by a past relative. When she takes it home, she finds a mirror and a hidden key with her initals on it. Later that night, she discovers that the mirror offers a glimpse into another world. It is here that we meet the hero Prince Caedmon who is trying to save his kingdom from war. He needs her to willingly give him the key to accomplish this. A neighboring kingdom has the chest and if he has the key - this will maintain the balance of power. Both have had their share of loss and heartache and this brings them together. They eventually have a HEA, but the minute this occurs something unforeseen happens to Rowena and their love is tested. You have to read the second book to find out what happens to them.

Overall, a great portal to another world romance.

Rowena is an antiquarian known for her ability to spot the best pieces, but when she buys an armoire that won’t even open, she begins to doubt her abilities. That is, until the armoire opens in the middle of the night to reveal a magic mirror with a handsome prince on the other side.

Rowena has been hurt in the past and is tentative when it comes to giving her heart away again, and perhaps that's part of why she falls so hard for the guy on the other side of the mirror, the one she can't actually touch. Or maybe it's because he is a drop dead gorgeous fairy tale prince, who thinks she is a beautiful sorceress.

We learn that Prince Caedmon also has a troubled history, with a difficult place in the royal household, and it's easy to understand why Rowena's heart melts at his tale. Although they are damaged in their own ways, both Rowena and Caedmon are a good laugh too (I love Caedmon's terrible poetry, and Rowena's all too honest laughing response). As much as this is a fairy tale romance, it doesn't take itself too seriously, and the humor throughout this tale makes the romance all that more endearing.

I love Rowena’s friend Ollie who seems completely unconcerned about the presence of a magic mirror in his friend’s bedroom. I always enjoy stories a little more when there is a friend on the periphery to make central characters more believable and rounded, and Ollie is the perfect addition to this love story.

Given that Rowena is stuck on one side of a mirror with Caedmon on the other for most of this novella, their developing relationship is one of growing emotional connection with an increasing longing for physicality. Although both fantasize about sex with each other, they are unable to fulfill their desire for the majority of the story and, rather than being a down side to this romance, I thought this was incredibly tantalizing. Instead of slowing the romance, as Rowena and Caedmon fall in love, their inability to connect by touch builds the passion of their relationship to its extreme.

You need to realize this is a novella, because you will get to the end of this story and be desperate for more. Thankfully, HarperImpulse is releasing each novella in this series in month by month installments, so we don’t have long to wait for the next development of Rowena and Caedmon’s fantasy romance.

The first in The Golden Key Chronicles is an enchanting fairy tale for adults. If you're still in love with the Disney princes of your childhood and wish one would turn up in your bedroom late at night, you'll love Rowena's Key.

This book is a great start to the upcoming series, The Golden Key Chronicles, of which there are another three books scheduled for release over the next few months. In this first novella, we meet the heroine, Rowena, who uncovers a magic mirror in an old armoire she bought. The mirror connects to the bedroom of a very sexy prince and a castle full of people who think she is a witch who can save their kingdom from imminent war.

If you love classic fairytale romances with a modern twist, you'll really enjoy watching the attraction and love grow between Rowena and Caedmon from either side of the mirror. They come from very different worlds, but they have open hearts and a desire to believe in the impossible. Both are very likeable and vivid; I had a clear idea who they were and their dialogue remained true to their local language/dialect (which is sometimes an issue in mixed-world stories).

The information about Caedmon's world, and Rowena's part in their troubles was very nicely balanced with the romance scenes. We learned just enough to be intrigued and want to follow Rowena through the mirror to a new life, without the story being overly complicated.

I don't like giving spoilers in reviews, but I will say there’s a really cool twist in the story that sets up the next book to be a must-read. :D There is a preview of Candra's Freedom included in the ebook and it's due for release on Dec 12th, so not too long to wait!

Fairytale romances are not my favorite romance sub-genre, but I was so impressed with the book overall and can't find fault with it in anyway. Beautiful cover art, great editing and structure, and wonderful characters; everything an author and reader needs for a successful series is here. Congrats AJ!

3.5 on the Masq Scale

Rowena is the best antiques dealer in Chicago, but when she purchases an armoire that is in disrepair, she begins to doubt herself. She finds a key in a hidden compartment but is frustrated that she can’t even get the armoire to open! The armoire opens in the middle of the night all on its own to reveal a magic mirror and a handsome prince. Rowena is sure that this is some kind of a practical joke by a friend. Against all sense she agrees to meet with Prince Caedmon the next night.

The storyline is very intriguing and the chemistry between them is well articulated. Rowena and Caedmon become more emotionally attached to the other as time passes. I also like Ollie’s character; he is Rowena’s best friend who plays the invaluable part of making sure Rowena is always well dressed for her dates! The cons for me are that the story went in too many different directions and left the reader confused at times. I would have liked the story to stay a little more focused on Rowena and Caedmon and only have one or two side stories of substance like the war on Caedmon’s side and the mystery of the key on Rowena’s.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and look forward to what happens next. It is a cute, short and fun read.

The descriptions in this novella are absolutely priceless, the detail exquisite. Nuest has the perfect mix of eloquence, subtlety, and brashness with this tale. You can’t help but laugh at the literal clash between fantasy and reality. It is the fundamental basis of this fast paced and suspenseful tale. And what a perfect cliff-hanger of an ending… The author balances concluding the current dilemma with giving us something we need to get back to. It is one of those fantasies that every woman would love to live and that every man would love to be part of.

There are really only 2 major players in this novella and they are both phenomenally well developed to suit who they are and the lives that they lead. Both their similarities and their differences shine through making you laugh and sigh in turn. The supporting cast was also quite intriguing. They were definitely the extremes of the stereotypes they portrayed. This whole cast is definitely larger than life

Overall this was a brilliant escape from the everyday. I, for one, will definitely be on pins and needles until I get to the sequel. I can definitely see this becoming one of my new favourite series.

This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Firstly I was would like to say thank you A. J. Nuest for sending me a copy of this book.

I thought Rowena was a really great character. I love how deeply she fell in love but she was a little naive at times.

Caedmon was fantastic. He was fiercely protective and clearly deeply cared for Rowena.

Ollie was the best "big brother" figure someone could ask for he was very protective of Rowena and clearly didn't want her to get hurt again.

I loved the story telling between Rowena and Caedmon. The way she needed to know everything about him was really sweet to read.

I was saddened by the ending of this book but I can't wait to read the next one. I need to know what happens next. I would definitely recommend this to any one who likes chicklit mixed with some fantasy. It was a really excellent book.

I got the book from the author for a fair and honest review. I absolutely liked the book.
Usually I do mostly regency romance when I read romance or erotica novels so this genre was kind of new for me but I got into it very quickly when I started reading. (The only problem was that I had such a long "to read list" that I just finished it a couple of days ago).

I really liked the female lead, the heroine, Rowena and her profession - she's an antiques dealer. She is strong and passioniate. She purchaises an armoire (there is a story to it) and finds a hidden key and so the miracle starts.

I can absolutely recommend it - for people who like "castle romance" or/and fantasy romance.

I haven't read any fantasy books for the longest time, but this author AJ Nuest has re-introduced me to a genre that I had forgotten I loved! Rowena the heroine is immediately likeable and her best friend Ollie was a joy to read. I hope he pops up again! I loved the chemistry between Rowena and Prince Caedmon, although I have to confess I found some of the old fashioned words used hilarious! 'Tits of the nine goddesses' will stay with me forever!
For fans of fantasy and hot romances, this is perfect!

The Golden Key Chronicles by A.J. Nuest was highly enjoyable, fast-paced, and full of steamy romance. This was a pretty quick read but in a few short pages the reader is able to be sucked into the world, the dynamic characters and the story-line.

I would highly recommend this to all lovers of Romance. I will be on the lookout for more works from this author.

Like the best fairy tales, Rowena’s Key captures the imagination and the heart with an added undercurrent of spicy romance. Rowena, a wealthy antiques dealer, buys an ancestor's armoire, and soon finds an ancient key with her initials on hidden within. But that's not all she find by far, for soon she has a magic mirror with a dashing prince on her hands!

I loved the characters portrayed in this novella. Rowena was feisty and held her own, unwilling to fall for the fantasy of a magic mirror into a different time. This gave her prince, Caedmon, on the other side quite something to wrap his head around, as he fell boundlessly in love with her, yet could not trust, or fully understand her. The other men we met via the mirror, often only briefly, beefed up that world and showed what depths awaited, with different characters, and archaic speech, they showed the kind of world Caedmon inhabited. But, of course, back on our side I cant leave out Ollie, the quirky best friend we all wish we had. He overflowed with colour and wit, making me laugh. He also had a much deeper side, acting like a big brother to Rowena, caring for her and ready to protect her should anyone try to harm her.

Rowena learns from Caedmon of a prophesy talking of a sorceress with a golden key that can save his kingdom – the key she possesses. She refuses to believe him, to allow herself to be fooled, thinking it a high tech trick, yet she is still drawn back to that mirror the next night, anxious to see what will happen. I felt I would have liked more information on the prophesy earlier, but the mystery, along with the hot guy, draw Rowena back and test her resolve. I had no problem being drawn back with her!

During the day, in between the initial meetings with Caedmon and his men, Rowena spends time at her antiques shop, trying to bring some rationality back into her life. Getting they key tested and generally burying herself in her work. This was the one part of the story I didn't engage with however. While elsewhere the writing often glistened and flowed across the page, here it felt dull and flat, much like Rowena's emotions while she was away from the mirror. I feel this part was necessary as a way to ground her, and bring Ollie into the story, but I would have liked the writing to stay more consistent.

She could never stray from the mirror for long however, no matter how many times she told herself it was a practical joke. This is where the fantasy and romance really combined to produce something special, and where I think all readers will want to be. As Rowena quizzes Prince Caedmon, both of their lives are brought into better light, their histories shared with each other. Caedmon had an adorable and sexy way to talk, with some catchphrases that had me cracking up. His awful attempts at wooing Rowena with the arts has much the same results. It is steamy and sexy, with a sweet, loving underside.

The ending completely took me by surprise, I was shocked at what happened. Looking forward to reading the next instalment.

photo GoldenKeyChroniclesThe-AJNuest_zps9b5a6990.jpgOverall this was a fun, sexy read, with plenty of fantasy, magic and mystery into the bargain. The characters were fun and well written. In most places the writing was alive.

I would have liked more explanation earlier in the story, and a little adverb cutting in a couple of scenes, but this was a fun escape from the world for a while.

I give this novella 4 stars and look forward to continuing The Golden Key Chronicles

We meet Rowena when she is looking at her newest acquisition. As an antique shop owner, Rowena is used to getting rare and sought after pieces of furniture, jewelry and any number of other antiquities. But, when Rowena gets the armoire she has been searching for it is more than she expected. Rowena finds that the ordinary piece of furniture isn’t really ordinary. At first she thinks its her friend playing a trick on her with a very handsome actor. But, when the armoire opens again with the same prince then Rowena begins to question her sanity until she accepts that her Prince and his world exists. As Rowena and Prince Caedmon’s relationship grows the veil between the two worlds thins and a decision must be made. Will Rowena choose to be with her prince or will she stay with her antiques?

This was a great short novel. It’s the beginning of a great new series. I loved the premise. Rowena and Caedmon’s romance is so quick yet wonderful. Also, Rowena’s friends were fantastic. I hope we see more of Rowena’s friends but from the ending of the first novel I am unsure if that will happen. Since reading AJ’s contemporary romance of She’s Got Dibs I have loved her writing style. With her branching out into this new genre I think she’s going to see many more fans. I know I am one and am so glad that she has asked me to review her books. I know that anyone who picks up Rowena’s Key will be enthralled from the moment they open the book. The characters, the story and the overall flow of the book will having you craving more and waiting with bated breath for the next installment. I know I can’t wait for A.J Nuest’s next book whether it is a contemporary romance or a paranormal romance. A.J Nuest definitely has a fan in me.

I absolutely Loved this series originally I was only going to read the first book but there was no way I could have stopped there!!!!

I Loved Rowena she is my kind of girl, Strong, Bright and Bubbly the shrewd Antique's Dealer is unsuspecting that she is in fact the Sorceress and magic Key holder linked to saving the Mystical Kingdom of Prince Caedmon Austiere, but just one look at each other and it's more then kingdom's that are at stake.

I loved this series it is a fabulous mystical tale of corruption, survival, twists and turns that leave you wondering what else could happen!! I loved the smooth action packed story line and the character's were very lovable and as Rowena and Caedmon journey on their route to true love their super sexy hot steamy encounter's leave's you hot under the collar yet yearning for more!!!

With wizard's, Witches, Falcon's and many more mystical creatures as allies as well as enemies this series is a fantasy world full of betrayal, mystical spell's and treachery on such a massive level and all aimed at denying the true heir to the Throne his rightful place.

Rowena kicks ass her time training with the Royal Guards helps her protect herself and those she loves as she and Caedmon battle to save the kingdom and themselves and stop the foretold prophecy from coming true and breaking hearts.

With excellent characters and environmental back drops of amazing detail and mystical worlds this series takes you to a world of fairytale where the nightmare's are as real as the happily ever after's

Absolute must read and any fantasy lovers dream adventure.

I received a copy of Rowena's Key directly from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Fantasy and magic and crazy, weird stuff happening normally doesn't do anything for me. I tend to brush it off, reality and realness blocking my mind from the silly, fairytale things happening. But, with Rowena's Key, I lapped up the fantasy and enjoyed every single moment of it.

I thought the cover for Rowena's Key was gorgeous. It looked very classical and timeless, which fits in with the story perfectly. The colours and the chosen font worked incredibly well together to really give off a feeling of going back in time.

The characters in Rowena's Keywere great! You meet Rowena first, who is the main female character in the story. The story begins with Rowena, who is apparently the best antiques dealer in Chicago, making a purchase on an old, dated armoire. It's cracked in a number of places, it has wobbly legs and it's not something that her usually sharp eye would choose to buy. After she has taken the armoire home, she really doesn't understand what in the world possessed her to buy such a dreadful piece of furniture. After fiddling around with the armoir for a day or two, Rowena falls upon something that changes her life forever. Inside the armoir, she finds something that is rather like an open window or an open doorway. She is looking right into a medieval room. When she discovers this, she also discovers Prince Caedmon who lives on the other side. Rowena and Caedmon cannot touch each other, but they can see and they can speak. From inside one of the drawers of the armoir, Rowena finds a golden key. The key that can right Prince Caedmon's kingdom from crumbling and falling to the ground. In order for Caedmon to retrieve this key, he attempts to woo and charm Rowena. And from there on, the story just gets better and better. I loved Rowena's character. As well as being rather feisty, she has a little attitude, which I always like to see in a female character. I suppose you could say that she was a little naive as well, but aren't we all? After a bad break-up with her ex-boyfriend, Brad, Rowena does not want to fall for a guy's bullshit ever again, but when she meets Prince Caedmon, her views on falling in love slowly begin to mould into something else. Rowena flees from her everyday life and falls hopelessly in love with Prince Caedmon from her side of the mirror.

As well as reading the story from Rowena's side, you also get to read from Prince Caedmon's side too. One thing I loved about this guy was his obvious use of older language than Rowena's more modern way of speaking. The difference between the two character's eras was made perfectly clear to the reader and I loved the fact that they were two people from completely different places in time, communicating. It was wonderful and so magical! Prince Caedmon was also rather dishy; with his broad shoulders and muscled body, and his sword, obviously ;) Caedmon had a lovely heart beneath his manly exterior, and was able to sympathise with Rowena's harsh happenings that had happened during her life. This ultimately said to me that they may be from completely different walks of life, but they weren't so different after all.

The story itself was totally enjoyable. As I said at the beginning of my review, fantasy doesn't normally work for me, but Rowena's Key took me back to the days when my mind was open to anything and everything happening. As well the obvious talking and swapping details about their lives, there was a ever-growing chemistry between Rowena and Caedmon. It was frustrating watching all this sexual tension building up between them but knowing that it wouldn't amount to anything! Argh! The idea of speaking to another being from another world entirely sparked up my imagination and I lost myself to the story.

I'm giving Rowena's Key a fantastic rating of 4/5 stars! If you love fantasy, and a bit of bubbling chemistry then this book is definitely for you.

For a delightful change, I occasionally immerse myself in a nice medieval fantasy romance. I love the mysterious nature, the fairy tale feel and the enchanting world building. This one has the added element of being a time travel story as well.

This is a shorter piece that ends abruptly on a cliff hanger setting things up for the next portion in the series. Fortunately, I did my homework so I was ready for this to happen.

The first stage of the story introduces lonely antique's restorer, Rowena Lindstrom. She has experienced the double tragedy of her parents' recent deaths and her ex-boyfriend cheating on her multiple times. Her guilt over her dad's death is still with her even as she has built up a wall against enjoying any new relationships of a romantic sort. She lives for her work and time with her two friends that work with her, Ollie and Violet. This makes her ripe for an adventure one would say. The adventure begins in the unlikely form of an old dilapidated wardrobe that refuses to open. Rowena bought it at on-line auction because she discovered that it had been in the family and this would have pleased her dad to own it and restore it. But staring at the stinking beat up thing makes her shake her head at her own naivete, but then she discovers a secret compartment and a golden key. Then the mirror...

Caedmon is startled when the beautiful sorceress appears to him. He is consternated when she doesn't seem to take him seriously and believes he is a hoax. This is no hoax and the lives of his people depend on the sorceress' cooperation. Caedmon is saddened that it is his older half-brother with the pure bloodline who has been chosen for the honor of being with the sorceress during the 'gleaning'. But then she confounds the wizard, his father, his brother and the council when she asks for him. He hopes he will be worthy in his quest.

Rowena doesn't know what to believe at first. Someone must be playing with her, surely. This other world in the mirror and Caedmon can't be real. Deep down she wants it to be real. Time with Caedmon is become the most precious thing to her. But in the end, will he betray her too? Is he only playing her to get the Key?

This one was half-in and half-out of contemporary and fantasy which made things interesting. The plot drew me in from the beginning. Information was dolloped out a bit at a time and it is only near the end when things come to a head that all the cards are on the table and it leaves Rowena with a big decision. I liked the handsome prince wooing the fair maiden bit that was going on between Caedmon and Rowena. It was neat how the romance progressed as they got to know each other and built common ground and sympathy. Though this one heats up reminding me that this is not the fairy tale of my childhood. They barely had a chance to enjoy the culmination of their hard-won time in each other's arms when something catastrophic happens and I was left staring at the last page.

I would suggest being prepared to grab up the next book immediately if you find yourself into this story as much as I was. This is a good match for fantasy romance lovers who don't mind a bit of crossover with the contemporary. I look forward to continuing on with this engaging series to see what happens next with Caedmon and Rowena. I suspect this was only the beginning of their adventures.

Rowena’s Key is a great start to a series that I think a lot of people will enjoy. I honestly wasn’t expecting to like this one as much as I did. I’m glad I decided to give it a go when the author asked me to review it. I liked the heartfelt but subtle romance, the fantasy and magical elements, and the modern and believable characters. Everything flowed nicely into a quick and satisfying read.

We meet Rowena shortly after she impulsively buys a rather old and beat up armoire from overseas. As both a business owner and antiques restorer, she probably should have held on to the expensive shipping fees and thought a little bit more about what she was purchasing. Beginning to suffer from buyer’s remorse she sees firsthand how much wear and tear the piece has endured over the years. What makes matters worse, besides the obvious smoke and water damage, is the fact that the doors won’t even open! But life quickly changes for Rowena after she discovers a beautiful chain with a key and entire other world inside the armoire.

Kind of makes you think of Narnia, doesn’t it? The idea of alternate realms, especially inside furniture!, is always fun in my opinion. I liked the fact that Rowena didn’t automatically accept that what she was seeing was real. Of course, what she thought was a little far-fetched as well…thinking her best friend Ollie had somehow set up some masterful play-acting through the mirror of the armoire…yeah, makes much more sense. The interaction between Prince Caedmon and Rowena was one of my favorite aspects of the story. Even though they were in different time periods, spoke and acted differently, the attraction between them was genuinely felt.

I’m getting a little burned out from the meet-and-greet insta-love thing. I used to be a firm believer in the idea of ‘love at first sight’! But I suppose after reading so much about it, I started rolling my eyes more than sighing dreamily when the heroine/hero swooned seconds/minutes/days after meeting their perspective soul mate... I do believe in insta-attraction though. This I have experienced, even though I haven’t acted on it…I’ll work on that though (maybe). Rowena and Caedmon have an attraction between them despite the odds set against them. I like that the two shared intimate details about each other before even thinking of the future or the ‘L’ word. It was a nice change and made the story and romance more satisfying.

While it was a bit short for my taste I still felt pretty content with the plot, characters, pacing, and ending. I of course wanted more, but I have a good feeling that the things I was looking for in this first book will head my way with the next installments. And while the ending was a semi-cliffie, I could totally deal. It left me wanting more without feeling cheated or like I’m going to die waiting. I’m looking forward to seeing the story and the author’s writing grow in the upcoming books.

The start of a new series, and the first I have read by this author, Rowena’s Key mixes several elements in a unique way to give us a gripping introduction and taste for more to come.

I enjoyed Rowena as a character; even when her confidence in her ‘picking skills’ for antiques was shook, she didn’t allow the odd armoire to keep her constrained for long. When the armoire opened of its own accord, and the mirror presented her with choices and opportunities far beyond any she could imagine, her daring might have been foolhardy but her curiosity was easy to relate to and understand.

Caedmon was the reluctant, at first, hero. Sent to woo the one who held the key, he was truly a breath of fresh air. Horrible singing and poetry drops from his lips, I laughed out loud more than once at the description. His honor and determination in his mission to join the two worlds was admirable and intriguing, and I adored the use of the mirror as the portal.

Caedmon and Rowena were clever together as a couple; while their attraction builds we also see their characters develop more fully: there isn’t an instant connection or attraction, but a slow build to the tension. And Rowena’s best friend Ollie is a clever insertion with his flair for fashion and appreciation of his friend.

There are other threads that are brought in to give a taste of action and plotting to come: there is a mystery that Rowena wants to solve about her gaining the key, and Caedmon’s lands are at war: these two subplots are left without resolution, but are presented as little hints to things to come and answers to be revealed.

Be aware that this is a novella-length story at just over 100 pages. While there are several different elements vying for attention, Neust managed to give a sense of pacing that is not rushed or glossing over critical elements needed to understand or enjoy the story. The writing is tight, clean and clearly presented: characters are developing and growing before your eyes, and there is a sense that answers will come as the relationship and action develops.

This is a very clever fantasy romance story, with plenty of unique elements presented in intriguing ways to give a nice taste of the world, the mystery and the characters.

I received an eBook copy from the publisher for purpose of honest review for The Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Rowena's Key is not my typical kind of read but every so often I like to try something new to try and broaden my genres, so I thought Rowena's Key was a good choice as it is a romance/fantasy but it is a novella so I thought it would just be a little taster.

Rowena is an antiques restorer and when she finds herself the owner of an ancestral aromire which contains a hidden key little does she know her life is about to change dramatically.
Through a magic mirror lays another realm and there awaits a hot prince named Caedmon. Rowena struggles to believe this is all real but before long her heart is captured.

This has to be the best novella I have ever read and that is saying something for me as I am not a big fan of novellas. I have never read a novella that has such a deep storyline that has so much content packed into it. It is longer than previous novella's that I have read and so I feel it is more than worth the current price.

The mystery surrounding the key and the magic mirror to the other realm really had me gripped. There was some hot, passion for all of you who like a steamy read and this was written very well. I was shocked how full bodied the characters were, I felt as though I had been reading about hem for some time.

What I usually find hard when reading fantasy books is trying to get the normal thoughts out of my head when something unbelievable happens and this is why I love this book because when I started to read this and read about the key and magic mirror of course my initial thoughts were "yeah right" and what was great was this was the same thoughts of Rowena the main character as she actually assumed that it was a wind up!

Like most novellas this did leave me wanting more but knowing this is the first in The Golden Key Chronicles I know that I will be getting another fix I just hope we don't have to wait too long. Although I do think the novella could have been a full length novel, I do think having it as a novella builds up more suspense as we await the next installment.

I can not wait to read book 2, this is an ideal read for fantasy fans or romance fans looking for something a little different.

What was AJ Nuest thinking when she wrote Rowena’s Key? I believe she was thinking, “I’m going to dazzle my readers!”

Rowena buys a ghastly armoire. This was an epic failure for her. But there’s something to this pricey, old, broken-down, ratchet piece of furniture that drove her to drink down big gulps of Pinot Grigio. Rowena learns quickly this is no ordinary armoire. And when Prince Caedmon appears in the other side of the mirror, brandishing a sword and dressed like a centuries-old Robin Hood, Rowena thinks her friend Oliver staged the whole theatrics to mock her gaudy purchase.

What’s so remarkable about this story, Prince Caedmon would be considered a dweeb by modern standards. The author gives you a chance to gander his cornball poetry, clothes, and sheer cluelessness of the humor that surrounds him. The broad humor kept me laughing at some characters and chuckling with others. Nevertheless every character is engaging, lovable and charming.

I enjoyed reading about the supernatural occurrences chock-full o’ romantic, magical moments that drew me in deeper. The imagery is so vivid it felt like I was sitting in front of screen streaming real-time video. I love how the author cleverly crafted some straight up satirical irony within the plot. What Rowena says and what is meant, and what Prince Caedmon does and what is expected is a work of brilliance.

This is a really good and fun novella! It reads like a romantic comedy, and it has all the charm of Cinderella fairy tale. Rowena and Caedmon are worlds apart, but their romantic sparks are surfing on seduction-spiked airwaves and colliding in a mad rush to become as one. Rowena finally meets a man she could see herself loving, and she wants to be the best this gorgeous prince “forevermore,” a word she loved hearing him use.

Love romance? I highly recommend “Rowena’s Key” to romance novel lovers everywhere! This book delivers!
