Rachel Higginson is the best-selling author of The Five Stages of Falling in Love, Every Wrong Reason, Bet on Us and The Star-Crossed Series.
She was born and raised in Nebraska, and spent her college years traveling the world. She fell in love with Eastern Europe, Paris, Indian Food and the beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka, but came back home to marry her high school sweetheart. Now she spends her days writing stories and raising five amazing kids.
Uh, I guess I should first start by saying that I've never been a huge fan of Jericho.
I know, I know. You think I'm crazy. Right? I only liked Jericho for the drama that he created between Kiran and Eden. His presence made Kiran jealous, and I liked how that made Kiran think about his whole engagement situation with Seraphina and all that.
But that was ages ago and now Kiran and Eden are married and expecting babies...so what does that mean for my feelings about Jericho?
It was kinda like I had to get to know him again because I had only ever seen him as this "other guy" that could never fill Kiran's manly shoes. And you know what, it was kinda sad getting to know Jericho. I felt bad for the guy. I mean, I was only in Chapter One and I was already crying because of Jericho's sad thoughts.
I placed a hand against the doorframe to steady myself, and sucked in a sharp breath. I was over Eden. Completely over her. It had been years since we were together, and I was the one that ended things between us. So my chest shouldn't hurt when I was in the same room with her, and my breath shouldn't quicken whenever she was around..."
This sadness goes on and on and it just breaks my heart. Poor Jericho. He's been all lonely and in pain since he split up with Eden.
So I was beyond happy that Olivia was in Jericho's life. The story of the two of them getting to know each other was great. I loved how the book was dual points of view. We get to see both Jericho's and Olivia's side of the story which was great.
It seemed like Jericho compared Olivia to Eden a lot of the time, and I wish he wouldn't do that. Those girls are completely different from another and I don't want them to be compared. Especially because it seems like Jericho's praise of one girl makes it sound like he's saying that one is better than the other. Can't they both just be wonderful girls?
And let me say that I was skeptical about Olivia. I was worried about what I would think about her because she's a new character. She wasn't around for the first four books, and she wasn't really in the fifth book. So I didn't want an outsider coming in, not when I already have a deep love for all these other characters that I've known for so long.
But I surprisingly liked Olivia. She didn't seem like an outsider. She became a part of the story, a part of the Immortal community of people I love.
HOWEVER...
There is one thing she said that I will never forgive! Don't get me wrong, I still like Olivia, but she needs to be careful about what she says. Kiran is my all-time favorite book boyfriend. He is my forever. There will never be a greater guy than Kiran. So when Olivia says things like...
Jericho's King was kind of a pompous douche.
...and she's talking about Kiran, I take deep offense to that statement! Deep offense! I won't even let it pass because Olivia said "kind of". That won't let her off the hook. I know she's right about Kiran too! But it's one of those things that she just isn't allowed to say. It's one of those "nobody makes fun of my brother but me" situations.
Anyway, I enjoyed reading this book. Honestly, my favorite parts were whenever Kiran and Eden were present. I mean, the story between Jericho and Olivia was great, but nothing makes me happier than my favorite couple.
Also, Sebastian was another favorite of mine in this story. I'm almost 100% positive that I laughed out loud every time he spoke. I loved it when he fought with Seraphina. I loved it when he was teasing Jericho. I loved it when he was just present in the room.
"He's unconcious," Titus grunted, wiping his blood slicked hands against his jeans.
"Well, that's what happens when you hit a man in the face," Sebastian lectured studiously. "Repeatedly."
Bahahaha!!! Oh, Sebastian. I've been looking forward to his book the most ever since Rachel said she was going to write a book for Avalon, Jericho, and Sebastian. And now we're even closer to Sebastian than before! Yay! I'm so excited! He's my favorite guy in this whole series, excluding Kiran obviously.
Oh, and how could I forget the Talbott/Lilly part of the story! That part hurt me so bad! I really want a Talbott story. I think I would die to be in his brain, but I feel like he and Lilly have always kind of been on the sidelines and I want to see him at the forefront for once. I want to see what his life is about, more than just what I see from other people's POVs.
Okay, I'll wrap up this scatterbrained review. I enjoyed this book. I was glad for the story between Jericho and Olivia, and I look forward to the next book with Sebastian where someone better kick Terletov's butt and get him gone, because that guy is crazy.
When I started reading Star-Crossed series years ago I never thought that it will be one long series. I thought it will only tell Kiran and Eden story. And I was happy they ended the way I liked. But then there was another one, another story with a (old) new evil antagonist. And just like any other series I’ve already started I couldn’t not to read the rest even when I felt like it was enough for me. And the fact that it was Avalon’s story I was more than willing to read with a hope that it will be the end of the series. But I was wrong, the story hasn’t finished yet and there will be another books with another characters’ story in the future. So here I am reading book 6 about Avalon’s bestfriend and Eden’s ex-boyfriend, Jericho.
Although Jericho had big part in Kiran-Eden story, especially in book 2, 3, and 4, I didn’t pay much attention to him since it was so obvious that Eden will choose Kiran eventually. He was just a “bump in the road” in their relationship. Now it’s time to tell his story and give him his heroine. I liked that he has someone who can give him his happy ending, Olivia. The story is (seems) more interesting when Olivia isn’t from his circle. She’s a pure human who is turned into immortal through an experiment. At this point, I was still eager to read it. However the more I read the more I lost my interest to this book. Both Jericho and Olivia tend to tell me the same things over and over. I think they are telling than showing kind of characters. And they more interest to each other than the evil antagonist while at the same time they are so eager to have revenge to Terletov, the antagonist.
I also think most of everything that happen with Olivia and other characters are too easy. She can (sort of) handle her power in only two days in one training with Jericho. Even Eden couldn’t do it while everyone says that Eden is so powerful. There are also lots of coincidences things happen for their own convenience. Hence I couldn’t buy it. As for their relationship, it was just hard for me to feel their chemistry. It was good they have time to know each other and didn’t fall in an insta-love, things I usually love from romance story, but they hot and cold relationship while they are secretly admire each other is quite frustrating me.
It still has surprises at the end of the story, though, which I liked it. However it couldn’t make me think that the story is less boring. But I think I’m still going to read other sequels in the future to see all of the character have their happy ending.
This is Jericho's story. He once loved the Queen but walked away so she could return to her soulmate, Kiran. Ever since his team rescued a group of immortals and humans from Terletov in Peru, Jericho has felt the need to protect Olivia and her sister - the two humans that were subjected to Terletov's experiments. Olivia is fiesty and often takes out her frustrations on Jericho, but when she develops magic, he is the one person she trusts to teach her how to use it. Soon they are both trying to track down Terletov for revenge. Meanwhile, a romance begins to blossom between them.
I really liked Jericho's character in the earlier books in the series and it was nice to get to know him a little better through his POV. He did seem slightly different than back when he was dating Eden, but I guess a few years have passed since then. I liked Olivia's character as well and it didn't take me long to ship the two of them. I was a little disappointed in the ending, but perhaps I am just impatient and want all the loose ends tied up. I hope it happens in the next book.
The Relentless Warrior was such a good audio book! I am so happy that it was all about my baby Jericho and him finally moving on from Eden. He need his own happiness and I'm so freaking happy right now. So freaking happy that I'm already listening to the next audio.
Jericho deserved this and so much more. It sucks that his dad was such a douche though. However his little love interest was utterly adorable. I liked this relationship so much because it was drawn out, Nothing happened so quickly, like in Avalon's book. There was a little bit of drama and some mystery but.. it definitely ended up being predictable.
The reappearing villains were okay - they stepped up their game at least. Yet, I still knew that in the end everyone was going to be safe. I'm so happy that lilly was back and safe now - but I have no idea how much torturing she was put through. All of these characters are growing more on me and they are definitely becoming stronger together as well. I love this little group. Now I just need Seraphina and Sebastian back together because their chemistry is so freaking good!!
Overall, this book was good. Like really good and I am so happy that this series was brought to my attention. I can't wait to see how the next book will go.
4.5 stars -- So nice to have more Rachel Higginson imagination to read. Confession time: I was not one of the millions of girls that fangirled all over Jericho. I loved him as a character, but I was never in love with him. So I was not one of the millions waiting for his love story. Regardless, what a beautiful love story it was. And Jericho was so much more that I remembered him being. I mean, he was always sexy and funny and sweet. But this book delved deeper into how he felt about his position and the man he'd become and what he would do for the people he loved. Being confronted with a man who actually had to do the dirty and hard things to keep his world safe was harder than I expected. I felt so much for him, and never really thought about how he would handle that. It's not something that we think about much, even in the real world. I thought Ms. Higginson did a fabulous job of really showcasing a *warrior*.
Now onto the fangirliness. I never had desires or expectations for Jericho's inevitable soulmate, but Olivia was spot on. She was hilarious, feisty, a bit damaged, both beautifully strong and vulnerable at the same time. And I loved how down to earth she was!! I've never been much of a fashion/makeup girl, so I never quite cared about all of that with the other Star-Crossed heroines, so to have one that was more like me was dream come true.
And holy toledo, the steam factor..... I...I just....wow. The pool? OMG. Seriously. There are no words.
As usual, loved the action and forward motion in the Terletov storyline. I did feel like some of that got rushed at times, and that's where this book lost the half a star. So yeah. Loved it, but felt a bit short changed at the end there. Super excited to see how it all wraps up with Sebastian's story....he was off for me in the book, so I can't help but wonder what is going on with him.
So in conclusion, if you've loved the Star-Crossed series thus far, you will love this next installment. It had all the factors that make Rachel Higginson books fabulous, including (and my secret favourite part) the humour. ENJOY!!!
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 4.5 stars — There was so much going on in this one, and I’m still loving being back in this series. This one felt more solid than The Reluctant King, in that the writing and the progression of the romance was much smoother and realistic.
Bailey Carr’s narration is still solid for me. She conveys great emotion, solid range of voices, I’ve just ended up really enjoying her in this series. It will be interesting to see what she’ll sound like for Seraphina. As for Alex Bloch, he was pretty solid as well. Not quite as much emotion, he felt more even keel, but I guess that worked for Jericho. I was totally thrown off by his very faint accent though, as Jericho should have been just American right? I think this was Mr. Bloch’s natural accent, but I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what it was — New Zealand? Australian? Just plain British? It was so faint, I really couldn’t tell, but it did vaguely distract me, but that has a lot to do with me and the kind of listener I am. His other character voices were pretty solid as well, though not quite as much range. All in all, enjoyable, but not an immediate fave.

I love this series! But, I was really disappointed with this book. I loved Jericho in the last 5 books and couldnt wait to see his story and hopefully his happily ever after. However I really struggled to read this, I stopped and started so many times, I quite happily went back to facebook for a bit to play around instead of reading Jerichos story. The next book is a different POV but you need to finish Jerichos story so you're not left lost. But in saying that Im glad I persevered even if it was only to get the full info for book 7. From chapter 20 or so the story got better, more engaging, more fun and didnt drag. I grew to like Olivia, Jerichos love interest, she was less woe is me (yes I know, she had every right to be a bit off, doesn't mean I had to like it.) and more get stuck in and help. Just wish the beginning and middle of the book was more like that.
Despite feeling like a lot of the lovey dovey dialogue was totally over the top (were all the books like that? I don't remember. I must have been ok with it back then) and feeling like the ending was a little strange, I did like it. I did have to check (because of the strange ending) - there will be a 7th book. That might be getting a little out of hand, but I won't complain. I haven't loved the last 2 but I enjoyed them and like the follow up on the characters that I grew attached to years ago.
I did not realize that this book was smack in the middle of a series. However, it reads well as a standalone story. I understood what was happening, and never was lost. I was originally going to rate this book 5 stars, as I really enjoyed it ... except near the end. It became really tedious to listen to Jericho say over and over and over how he loved Olivia and he wasn't going to let her go. All of this action was going on around him, and that's what his internal monologue was about. So, I give the book 4.5 stars.
I do adore Jericho however this book lost my interest, I'm fighting myself to read it. As soon as I start I'm 5 pages in and bored, the storyline is lacking for me, with this book. At this point in time I am 1/2 way through and gave myself a break to read a different book. This book is not hitting the spot, I will go back to read it as I bought book 7 on kindle one click thinking the whole series would be out of this world as the first 5 books were brilliant.
“He meant something for me, something I couldn’t define or comprehend.”
I loved this book!! I was so so excited to read Jericho’s story and even more excited when I realized if switched POV from Jericho to his love interest Olivia.
Olivia’s personality is so relatable and fun. In one part she mentions missing her kindle and using Wikipedia and I can’t help but feel like she is me.
I laughed more in this book than any of the others. She’s funny and witty. Jericho’s POV was really interesting and kind of angsty and I had been excited to read it. Sebastian and seraphina also had some pretty great moments in this book as far as humor is concerned.
As soon as Jericho was introduced into edens story, I was rooting for him. He was so GOOD and KIND. And then about book 3 I realized they weren’t for eachother. Eden was right - he was too good for her. And so when he figured it out I was so sad but also like “yeah, this is right”. And so I was really excited to find out who deserved him and this story was perfect. Very happy with it. ☺️
I think the downfall of these books is that we all know what’s gonna happen as far as the kingdom is concerned and this author is for sure a fan of happy endings. I mean, she could totally prove me wrong and make some heartbreaking deaths happen in #7 but I feel confident she won’t. She loves her characters. So I stick around because I’m a crazy romance head and I love the characters too but I don’t honestly feel like there’s a real threat to them. 🤷♀️ that makes it kind of seem like “okay, hurry up let’s get to the happy ending that I know is coming” - if that makes sense? As opposed to being torn up with worry and wonder over what will happen.
I’ll be pretty dang shocked and surprised if it doesn’t turn out exactly how I know it will. We’ll see.
I can't just stop listening to this series now that I'm committed to re-reading it. I wish I could, I do, but here I am.
And thankfully this book was much better than Avalon's, I'm shocked to say.
While I was probably the biggest hater in the Jericho hate-club during Eden's story, this book redeemed him in my eyes. I liked Olivia, I liked them together. And you know what the cutest part of it was - which wasn't even mentioned?! - Olivia being a chef fits so perfectly with Jericho who always liked to cook for everyone. *Chef's kiss* for real this time.
But you know, outside of the romance, the Terletov storyline just pissed me off. This is a guy who Eden called a "PG-13 Villain." I just simply don't believe the evil depths he's gone too, and frankly, I didn't care. There was barely any mention of the suffering of immortals in this book, especially the shapeshifters, just weird threats about the suffering, and I just forgot to care. I was just focused on when Jericho and Olivia would be back together again. Oops. The "we have to keep making a worse and worse villain" pipeline in long spinoff series just doesn't work for me.
Since when was Jericho so “savage”? Literally a quote straight out of the book. He was WILDDD in his romantic endeavors with Olivia, often describing himself as animal, savage, primal, etc. He could barely control himself , but honestly the book was very steamy because of it. I guess, like other reviews have said, he had several years to mature, and I can only imagine how much battle and a breakup may change a person. He was definitely different tho and not as playful. Jerichos voice actor SUCKED and nearly ruined his whole POV (no fault of the author). Literally so bad. I cannot describe to you how bad he was, and I barely ever have this problem on audible. A common theme throughout this series is the repetition, which gets really old really fast. However, there were a lot of great things about this book! I’m so happy poor little Jericho found happiness, because we really got to see how much his relationship with Eden destroyed him. It broke my heart. The introduction of liv was a fun new character. She reminded me a lot of a knock off eden, but she had way more attitude and snarky-ness , so that was definitely nice and distinguished! I didn’t love how she was suddenly oh so magical and powerful and amazing, but hey she was a baddie . I’m just partial to my Eden and kiran 😂 the touch and go interactions with Terletov were also really annoying. Boo.
I can not believe that it took me almost a month to get through this book! I loved and flew through the other books in this series, which is why I thought this would be a quick read. I have been in somewhat of a reading slump the last few weeks. I am not sure the cause. I was flying through a book in about 3-5 days but recently I haven't been able to actually get into any of the books I'm reading.
At the beginning, this book did not hold my interest. I would read 10 pages here and 20 pages there but that was about it. I did enjoy it and I did end up liking it. I felt that I couldn't connect to the characters or the story for the first half of the book. I found it boring with the back and fourth between Jericho and Olivia. It was boring. Once we got out of the Citadel is when it got interesting.
Because it took me so long to actually get into this book, I am very hesitant to go any further in this series. Maybe I'll give the next book a try someday but not anytime in the near future.
Can you imagine going on vacation with your sister or brother in hopes of figuring out what to do with your life only to be kidnapped, tortured, and changed on a molecular level and forced into a world you thought was in books or make believe?!
That’s exactly what happens to live and her sister O. While O doesn’t do well whatsoever with what’s happened to them, Liv has to figure out this new world she’s found herself forced in. Jericho… one of my favorite characters throughout this series…. This man has had such a crap hand throughout the series it is time for him to find his one and only…or is it? While he’s starting to fall head over heels for Liv she constantly picks fights and talks about going back to her life before her kidnapping….
Such a good book and I cannot wait for the final book to see Telatovs end!
Though I loved Jericho as a character through out the series and I also loved Olivia I kinda hated the villain. The premise with making humans immortal is so cool but the squad was so weak! I mean come on!! It’s like the get so hung up on love people can just walk into the citadel and takeover the castle? Also live Lilly alone! But as a couple I liked the story, it’s just the main plot with the villain sucks.
I enjoyed this book but at times it was slow or too repetitive, battle after battle with Terlletov, it just seemed never ending. I felt so horrible for all the people he hurt, the awful things he did to them, so many we came to love in this series were taken. This book had new relationships, changes in the land, changes in the way an immortal is seen, but all through this Jericho finally got his happily ever after. I am anxious to read the next book and hope our side gets the upper hand.
I am so glad that Jericho survived this book and found his ultimate love. I would have been seriously sad if this book ended any other way. The only thing is that it does not explain what happened with the kingdomafyer the take over. Maybe the series would sum up what happens in the side stories and the last 7th book

I loved Liv she was great and Jericho was amazingly sweet too, but the ending was rushed and not complete. I need to know what happens, but I'm stating to feel like they are dragging this series on a bit too long. I may need to take a break after Eden's finally book before I read the last one.
I have really enjoyed the whole series so far. My only thing was once I started reading this book and noticed we got pov from both sides it made me want Kiran's pov in his books. When I read the first four all I kept thinking was how much I wanted into his brain and thoughts.
I’ve loved this series but this one wasn’t as amazing as the first ones about Kiran and Eden. I’m not sure why though. This is a fun series - I am excited to see where they take things in Sebastian’s story but will be sad to see it come to an end.
Story was good, I listen to audio books so I had to slow down the speed. The reader sounds like he's going through puberty otherwise. Besides that it helps flesh out more of the stories of the characters.
Oh how amazing Jericho turned out to be! Love this series. Feeling like there is so much more material available to keep this series progressing!!!!! Rachel Higginson is an amazing author!
Jericho and his friends continue the fight against this new evil. The Jericho is now wrapped in his own battle for his heart against a spitfire “human”
This one is from Jericho’s perspective and I loved it. These last books in the series are all kind of the same thing with different main characters, but I can’t help but enjoy it.
