REVIEW: 3.75 stars--ALL RIGHT NOW is the third instalment in Madelynne Ellis’ contemporary, adult BLACK HALO erotic, romance, rock band series focusing on the members of the British rock band Black Halo. ALL RIGHT NOW is the continuing story of guitarist Ash Gore, and the woman he loves Ginny Walters-a woman whose been hiding a secret that is about to rock our story line hero’s life. ALL RIGHT NOW should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book two ALL FIRED UP in which Ash Gore finds himself hospitalized after an attack by a man he once considered family and friend.
NOTE: The BLACK HALO series is the companion to Madelynne’s ROCK HARD series. If you have not read the previous instalments there may be some spoilers in my review.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Ash and Ginny) ALL RIGHT NOW follows the ongoing relationship between Ash and Ginny, and the struggles as Ash comes to terms with the possibility that he may never play the guitar again. After a drug-induced fall caused by a band mate’s need to destroy Ash’s life, our hero becomes a shadow of his former self-a whining, angst ridden, embittered rock star who believes life as he knows has come to a crashing halt. With the help of the woman he loves, and another near tragedy involving his health, Ash begins a slow climb back to the man he once was but news of another kind is about to rock his newly, ordered world. What ensues is the growing love between Ash and Ginny, and the fall –out as Ginny’s past comes looking for revenge.
ALL RIGHT NOW focuses on the highly sexual relationship between Ginny and Ash, a relationship that is threatened by Ash’s injuries and self-pity, and the secret Ginny kept hidden from the man that she loves. The $ex scenes are erotic, intense, exploratory and provocative but once again, I take offense with the use of a certain four-letter word I find unnecessary in the romance genre. The author spends an inordinate amount of time focusing on the sexual relationship including our heroine’s use of sexual bribery in her dealings with our story line hero.
Ash’s reaction to Ginny’s secret is over the top but not unexpected. His own actions and the emotional fall out following the attack leaves me questioning his attitude and backlash aimed at the woman he loves, once her secret is finally revealed. Ginny’s timing of the revelation must also be questioned in light of the events that took place only days before.
Most of the previous story line characters and couples play secondary and supporting roles including rhythm guitarist Jan ‘Spook’ Mortensen; bassist (Paul) ‘Rock Giant Reed’; front man and lead singer of Black Halo Xane Geist, new drummer Luthor Albrecht and their girlfriend Dani Fosbrook . I am looking forward to Rock Giant and Spook’s story lines-Spook’s story line is told in the OFF THE RECORD SERIES with Remastered, Resistor, Replayed.
ALL RIGHT NOW is a story of one man’s struggle to accept all that has happened, and one woman’s undying love for a man she is about to destroy. The premise is engrossing; the romance is erotic, passionate and edgy; the characters are broken, animated and energetic. There are some geographic-specific expressions, words and British euphemisms that may not be familiar to North America readers.
I would also like to note that for new readers, the author writes two interconnected series –Black Halo and Rock Hard-both focusing on the members of the rock band Black Halo, and in this there is some confusion as to the time line of events (with some cross over and parallel time lines) and reading order. To the best of my knowledge, the reading order is below. There is another series, loosely connected to both of the original series-ANYTHING BUT… focusing on Xane’s cousin Rick Liddell.
Come Undone (Rock Hard #1) All Night Long (Black Halo #1) Remastered (Black Halo #1.5 ) Come Together (Rock Hard #2) All Fired Up (Black Halo #2) Come Alive (Hard Rock #3) All Right Now (Black Halo #3)
This book was soooo good. I devoured it. I am a huge fan of Madelynne Ellis and the Black Halo world she's created. Black Halo are metal rockers and the series focuses on each band member's love story. I loved all the Black Halo books. If you haven't read the the Rock Hard (Hello Xane?!) or the first two books in the Black Halo series, pick them up! You will not be disappointed!!!! This is the conclusion to Ash's story. Ash is such a sweet romantic in the body of a guitar god. In the last book, Ash had been poisoned and almost dies. His recovery isn't easy and it's not certain. Ginny loves him and stands by him but will her secret destroy his recovery and break Ash's heart? I love rocker books almost as much as I love hardcore and metal music. It's not easy to write rocker books well and Madelynne Ellis does it exceptionally well. Character development is so comprehensive and elaborate, you really feel as if you know the characters and their world. You are heartsick during the drama, glowy with happiness and flushed during the erotic scenes. Read it for those alone. The wait for this one drove me crazy and now I guess I'm going to go crazy again waiting for more...
I've been a huge fan of this series since the first book. All of the books have been gripping and this one is no exception - I couldn't put the book down as I devoured it in the early hours.
This book mostly focuses on Ash and Ginny but the other characters from the series are well represented too. Ash has some serious issues to overcome and everything is hanging in the balance. Ginny is his rock and helps him through but will her secret destroy everything that she holds dear.
The story is well paced, the characters are perfection with just the right level of drama. A great read and a fitting conclusion to Ash's story. Loved it!
I was kindly given a free copy of this book, by the author, in exchange for an honest review.
I think series of books have come a long way from the beginning from the start of Xane. I have been a dedicated fan of all these books. They have matured though out each book. I know I not explaining myself, but to do that I would give to much away and there is a lot to cover.
Still can't wait to see what is to come of Black Halo.
I have to qualify this review by saying first that I haven't read any of the other books in this series, so I came into it blind. I did know it was part of a series, though, and expected to be a little lost, and I was. But not for long, I picked up fairly quickly what the basics were - Ash, a guitarist in the British band Black Halo, has been poisoned by someone they know - Iain, and has requested his girlfriend, Ginny, come to him at the hospital. So off Ginny goes, to see him, and ends up staying to take care of him when it becomes obvious he's not recovering as quickly as had been expected.
I was hoping for the kind of rock star I love - that is to say, starts off as arrogant and brash, but is brought to his knees by love, but unfortunately, that's not what I got. Instead, Ash really comes across as a class one ass. He's whiny, bratty, entitled and seems to be making no effort at all to recover and get himself better. The band seems taken aback, too, and does their best to accommodate him and pander to his obnoxious wishes, and I really, really wasn't feeling Ash. I liked his band mates and Ginny, though, they made the story interesting. But Ash, yuck, I didn't connect to him at all. I felt bad for him, being poisoned by someone, especially someone you knew, can't be easy on anyone. But he was just so...annoying and such a brat that I honestly don't know how Ginny and his band put up with him at all.
And then Ginny's big secret was revealed, yikes. I felt bad for Ash after that, too, but again, he took that entirely too far, also. Wallowing in self pity, whining (again!), going on and on and on until his band had to basically tell him to put up or shutup. Thank God Ginny came to make the grand gesture, because I had my doubts that Ash would ever have reached out and forgiven her if she hadn't forced the issue.
So, while I like Ginny and the rest of the band, and the sexy times are hot, I don't like Ash at all so I couldn't honestly justify a higher rating. I am interested in Xane's (Come Undone) story, though, and will probably check it out.
I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.
I've been following Black Halo since the beginning, and loved all the books so far. I was so keen to read this one but....it lacked the magic the rest have for me.
I know Ash had been through so much but he was so angry, so whiny, so - well, downright unpleasant much of the time. It felt like everyone was pandering to him, and that isn't the Ash I thought I knew. I know serious illness/injury has some different effects on people but i just didn't like this ash, he felt very selfish, self centred.
Then Ginny, always so happy-go-lucky but hiding That?? I kind of understand why she didn't tell Ash at first, you don't spill your guts to someone on first meeting after all, but they've gone way way beyond that. To not tell Dani either? Her best friend, when they've been through so much together. It just didn't feel right.
Xane, Luther and Dani felt a bit off here too, I was unsettled that their relationship seems to be having issues, and though I've loved Xane in other books he seemed to be saying to both "I want you both, so tough if neither of you like it" and that didn't match with the guy I thought he was either.
Its a good book of course, Madelynne excels at creating great characters and settings, but for me this one fell short of the others. It didn't have that magic spark and it was a bit of a chore to get through. That's something I never thought I'd write but it is how I felt. I can see though that others love it so each to their own. I'll still be keen to read more of Madelynne's stories, this is just a blip for me.
Stars: Three, a sad hiccup in a five star series for me.

Another fun story in the Black Halo world, though this one was a bit heavier than the others. This picks up after the last one, where Ash was accidentally poisoned by Iain (it was supposed to be Xane) and he's working through the after effects. Or, maybe he's not, which is causing problems within the band -- they haven't given up on him, though he's not really making an effort to get better. When the band is sent to Australia for PR without Ash, Ginny stays with him and comes up with her own method of physical therapy (since Ash is ignoring medical advice). Thankfully, her methods work, and not only do they get a healthier Ash when the band returns, he's written a fabulous song, too.
But along with all of this, Ginny has been harboring a huge secret that is about to blast her carefully crafted world apart. She never expected things to go so well with Ash, and there never seems to be a good time to tell him her secret. But then things happen, words are said and assumptions made, and it doesn't look good for them for a while. Eventually, everything works out for them, but it's hanging by a thread there for a while. I was glad that Ginny finally confronted her past so she and Ash could move forward unencumbered.
So anyway, I look forward to the next in this world of rock stars!
I’ve been avidly following Ash and Ginny’s story from the first night they spent together in Come Undone, and I had waited for what seemed like forever for them to finally work out their rather complicated histories and find a HEA.
This book deals with Ash’s slow recovery from illness and injury, coupled with Ginny’s Big Secret, which is coming to bite her right at the moment she really doesn’t need any distractions from her main task of incentivising Ash to work hard at his physical therapy by dangling sexual treats in front of him.
The book has the rest of the band turning up and offering their opinions, and the whole thing has a tense edge to it, reflecting the turmoil of a group who can’t go forward without either a miraculous recovery from their lead guitarist or the worrying possibility of replacing him.
While at times I did want to throttle Ginny for her habit of putting off the inevitable, it did make for a compelling page-turner. And I have an enormous soft spot for Ash.
With an effortless switch between Ginny and Ash’s point of view, I rekindled my love affair with these characters and the world of the Black Halo band members. I know I keep harping on the fact that my reading experience is enhanced when I can conjure up the scene in my mind’s eye. I’m a very visual person and this book satisfied that need in me. Hello, did you see the cover? But seriously, I may not envisage a perfectly detailed portrait of a character, but if the narrative enables me to visualise general features and settings, and enables me to feel like I am seeing what they are seeing, then for me that is a well-rounded reading experience. It adds to the dimension of the characters, it gives me the visceral experience of living their story and ALL RIGHT NOW gave me that. Continue reading my review on the Scandalicious Book Reviews blog
This is another installment in the rock romance series Black Halo and it picks up with Ash and Ginny. Their story is one of devotion, carnal desires, love and lies. As for devotion; I couldn’t think of a better word to describe their relationship with Ginny standing by Ash’s side both in and out of the hospital. Now for carnal desires; these two knew how to bring the other to their knees fulfilling their fantasies. Anytime love and lie are used in the same sentence you know one of them will win out in the end. So be prepared to follow the struggles that have plagued Black Halo as of late along with holding on tight just to see if Ash and Ginny will ever find the happiness and trust they were looking for.
I received this book as an ARC for a freely given and honest review.
"Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review" 2.5 stars I enjoyed the music related aspects of this story and the depicting of a British rock band’s life. I guess the romantic plotline will be appreciated by younger readers but this is not really my kind of thing. As I hadn’t read the previous books in the series (Black Halo) and those about Ash and Ginny’s story (this is the third part), I had a bit trouble keeping up with all the characters and their backgrounds. There’s lots of telling and the dialogue sometimes feels stilted. Also, the hero’s physical issues, so important for the plot, were sort of forgotten in the last part of the story. I'm grateful to the publisher, Incantatrix Press, and NetGalley for providing a free copy.
I absolutely loved Ash and Ginny's story! It started out with a bang and from there it took me on a huge emotional roller coaster ride. Angst, fear, sweetness, and packing plenty of heat, this was such an awesome addition to the Black Halo series. It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page. Rockstars have complicated lives, and even more so when your livelihood is threatened. I loved how Ginny stuck with Ash and helped him work through everything. Fantastic read! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I really enjoyed catching up with Ash & Ginny in this book. Ginny helps Ash to recover after he was poisoned by Iain but she is keeping a secret that will end their relationship. When Ash finds out what that secret is he leaves her on Christmas Eve, with his heart in pieces he wallows in self pity only for his band mates to talk some sense into him. When he sees her again all his feelings of love come rushing back.
Ash is an impatient man at times, “whatever.” He had a hard-on he’d very much like her to sit on right now, so yeah, he was in a bit of a hurry to progress with **** and get to the good stuff." When it comes to Ginny you don't have to tell Ash twice, “show me what you’ve got, Chief, and maybe we can discuss terms of engagement.” What he had was a effing raging hard-on. It didn’t take any persuasion to convince him to drop his jeans." I liked this book, I loved Ash.
A very good book in it's own right. Not very much of a standalone though. I started reading and names just kept getting tossed at me. Names like Rock Giant, Cave Troll and Spook. It was a good book and I assume I would enjoy the series, but I recommend reading the entire series.
This review is based on the ARC provided by the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Great story! Good friends are hard to find, so is love consequently. Great story. Drool worthy characters are well developed, complex even. How do you come back from hurt and betrayal? How do you recover trust and honesty? A must read, definitely recommend this book. I would love to read more Madelynne Ellis.
Great ending to this amazing series. I was hooked on Ash and Ginny’s story from beginning to end. This read is full of drama and emotion. Ash and Ginny have great chemistry and the story really draws you in. I loved it!
Ginny sneaks into a backstage room and meets Ash. She figured one night with Ash and onward, but fate has other plans for her. Ash rustled with his emotions and alot of unknown baggage. Can these two handle these curves? Read now and find out.
Black Halo, Rockstar and the Groupie The third book in Ash and Ginny story. Is more subtle than their previous stories, but is just as engaging and engrossing. It takes place after Ash's poisoning. The story is well written making you question all. Whether Ash will be able to play again, what secrets Ginny is keeping and If there relationship is really strong enough to survive the turmoil. As with everything this author writes the heat factor is high. Ash and Ginny melt the sheets/pages together. The story is very cohesive and flows really well. With lots of other favourite band members making appearances. It really is a extremely well done novel.
