PLANTCRAFT - A GROWING COMPENDIUM OF SOUND INDOOR GARDENING WITH SOUND.

I picked up this wonderful book from my local library booksale just a couple days ago.

Basically, this book derives its idea from the age-old *wives' tale* that *your houseplants grow better when you talk to them.* And if that's so, *what would happen if you were to play appropriate music for them, then?*

Unfortunately, my copy is missing the 45 rpm record that is supposed to come with it.
:(

But, luckily, there's more to it than just that. This book also details how to grow your houseplants correctly, balanced out nicely with some perfectly accomodating pictures, that make it a very magnetic read.

Of these pictures, many are fantastical fairy tale-like line art drawings, memorably, one of Eve, a bird, and a Unicorn, in the Garden of Eden, all framed inside an apple.

And this fun one highlighting ways to combat plant diseases.

Janet Cox did a wonderful job writing this in a very upbeat easy-to-read format interspersed with some lovely illustrations done by Win Ng that immediately caught my eye the first time I quickly leafed through it; of animals, inc. hummingbirds, a cat, a lion, an elephant, birds, lizards, bunnies, fish, a giraffe, a hippo, and more, as well as bugs inc. cute aphids, dragonflies, mealy bugs, snails, a red spider, a white fly, along with Fairies, a Unicorn, Adam & Eve, an assortment of houseplants etc. There's also some small black & white plant photos taken by Spaulding Taylor printed in the back.

Overall, very well put-together and a gem I'm very fortunate to have found.

I can already tell this is a book I will read over & over again over the years, just so I can put a goofy grin on my face everytime I do, and experience what it feels like to plant my feet firmly in the shoes of an urban flower child.

This book was produced in 1973 and, I'm afraid to say, I think it'll be one long slow ass wait before they ever make another book quite like it.

*Highly recommended for plant lovers and those looking for something different to fit on their shelves in-between books on gardening, plant folklore and cryptobotany!!!!!

**Now I just need to purchase one with the record so I can watch my plants boogie it on up!

Great and a bit of a time capsule from 1973, Yerba Buena Press, San Francisco!
One bit of information was that any 3 books about plants will differ in some of the advice for plant care. I had never though about this except to wonder about why they did. So now we know. I liked this book a lot and wish that it still contained the sound piece.
