Lila Murray is determined to leave behind the drama of her old life and make a fresh start in Heartside Bay. But when she falls for Ollie the hottest boy at Heartside High, she makes an instant enemy of Eve, the school's Queen Bee. Eve wants Ollie for herself and now she will do anything to keep them apart...
This book is probably not even worth writing a review about. It just a big pile of nothing.
It's about a stereotypical new girl starting at a new school where she falls for the stereotypical jock, befriends one random girl who has no other friends for some reason, and pisses of the stereotypical mean Queen Bee.
That is literally the book. It's only 200 pages.
It's badly written, unoriginal and unrealistic.
But it's not even so bad that I couldn't even wait to write a scathing review about it. It didn't even get that right. It reads like a Creative Writing exercise in young adult writing. And the student probably got a D-.
This is such a fluffy and cute contemporary read based around a highschool in the Uk. Being set in the uk i felt very connected to the characters in this book and what they were goin through at times as i myself have been a year 10 student and i know what it is like except having lockers. Within this book there was quite accurate representation to school life and bullyin within school. i loved how this book handled the dealing and how lila had her friends by her side the whole time which showed true friendship. I loved all the characters cause they werent perfect as they all had flaws which is showing a true picture of teenagers and people nowadays. This book is full of love as we see it from every angle from family to friends. Lila was a fun and quirky character and stood up against the people making her life hell and also stayed true to her friends when times got tuff. i liked both love interest within the story and glad that she got to be happy at the end. Also how we had both a jock and nerd catch her attentionand not her striding towards just one stereotype.
I really enjoy reading this one. The character are so natural, they have their flaws and that's what makes them perfect. It is a nice story for the summer, even though it is placed on February, near Valentines Day. Let me say one thing; I'm glad that it's a series because I hate the boy Lila ends up with in the book. I don't want to spoil you so I'll just say that I preferred the nerd. P.S. LOVE THE NERDS! But anyway, I still liked that book. It's a short read but full with emotions and one can relate at so many things. And when I say emotions, I'm not talking specifically about love for 'the other half'. No, no. We see love among family members, friendship, old friends reunited and a lot of other stuff that makes life what it is. Let's be honest, life isn't just about finding our other half, It is so much more. And in this book we see that. I also liked that the protagonist isn't introduced as the perfect girl and has the difficulties and everyday teenager has.
The New Girl is the type of book that I reach for when I’m twelve and now at 21, I’m just not into books like this anymore. There’s a beauty mean Queen Bee, a good-looking Jock the main girl is crushing on, a secret admirer which isn’t hard at all to figure out, the whole high school scene. I flew through the book very quickly since it was quite short and the writing is simple and easy to read.
Unfortunately, The New Girl isn’t for me and with that, I won’t be reading the other 11 books that are in this series. It’s not my kind of novel at my current age.
I just Finished reading this book and I really liked it, even though it was the typical high school story. Lila has just moved from London and now lives in Heartside Bay and wants a fresh start. She even starts calling herself Lila instead of Lil which was what she called herself before. As she walks into school on her first day, everyone looks at her. I couldn't possibly walk into school and have confidence like she did. I am much too shy. She then meets a guy who she says is the most gorgeous guy she has ever seen. His name is Ollie and just as Lila thinks that she can survive at Heartside Bay in walks the most popular and rich girl in school, Eve, who wraps her arm around Ollie. Never in this way but I know the feeling when all of your hopes are crushed. The one speck of hope Lila has, is that Ollie shakes himself out of Eve's death grip on his arm and begins to walk away with Lila. But just when Lila begins to feel better she crashes into the classroom she was leaning on, and everyone turns to her and laughs. When I imagine her life, I imagine it as a roller coaster trying to get to the top. It is so close and then it falls back down. Her roller coaster then goes up when she meets her first friend Polly who also is an enemy of Eve. Over the next few days, Eve tries to make Lila's life as hard as possible. She does things like filling her locker up with glitter, locking her in a bathroom, and trying to get her caught spray-painting the cove. This is pretty typical in most books; the mean girl tries to ruin the main character's life, so I was pretty bored during this part of the book. But all throughout this time Ollie tries to help Lila escape Eve's schemes. But Ollie and Lila have a plan to make Eve even more annoyed, Ollie has an invitation to Eve's party, and he decides to bring Lila to it. When I was reading this part of the book, I knew that something bad was going to happen, or something embarrassing. Eve is my least favorite character because she is what I would call "a typical Mean Girl." She decides to pick on kids who don't deserve it because she can, and she takes anything she wants because she is so used to getting her way. Well at the party there is a big fight between Eve and Lila but Lila wins and gets to stay.
I was looking for a cute fluffy romance book for the summer full of clichés. I knew what I was going to read. Still couldn't shake the feeling that this was a Wattpad story. The writing was not good, the plotline predictable with holes and the characters very unrealistic. Same with their actions.
So Lila, the new girl, wants a new life. Okay. Nooooone can get a new life overnight. She says that she was this bad girl and did bad things and caused so much trouble to everyone. And suddenly one day she became the good one, because she moved in another town. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Anyway, I had issues with it, but still fast to read and gotta admit that it's fun seeing cliches gone bad😂
This book had a very unoriginal and unrealistic storyline to it. Hence why I've rated it 3.5/5 stars. The characters were very simplistic and leaned towards stereotypical characters and so I didn't really care for them (even the protagonist I didn't care for). However, the positives are that it was a light, fluffy, quick and contemporary read. Ultimately, I do not think that I will carry on with the Heartside Bay series.

If you like the stereotypical coming of age , “ new girl meets mean girl “ sort of tropes this book is very much what you’re looking for. I loved it when I went through the phase of living that trope!
i think that this book is amazing it goes through things that happen in middle school and has a lot of funny and romantic things. i enjoyed this book and i think others will to.
This was a good book, it felt like it was a life of a learning teenager, learning from her mistakes. I can't wait to read the next book, because this book was amazing!
I honestly just finished reading this book and can't wait to start the second one. I do kind of wish that she didn't kiss Ollie yet so that Josh still had a chance.

A simple story with a repeated plot, and expected events from the first few pages. however, it's an easy read to the fans of high school novels and movies.
Very quick read but not much substance to the story. Would continue with the series if I had to but I'm not going to reach for the second one. I think I would have enjoyed this book more when I was younger (aged 12).
