Rate this book
President Park stepped onto the elevator and smiled, “It is spoken that you are a man of faith. I trust that you will do what is right.”

The President of South Korea asks Cris De Niro for help. A North Korean general may be plotting to launch a missile attack on the South in order to reignite the Korean War, and a high-ranking South Korean official may be an accomplice. Nothing So Glorious: Gerard DeMarigny

What would happen if the North Koreans were able to launch missiles right at the city of Seoul Korea? What would happen if the detonator was set and no one could stop what was going to happen? Who would dare risk their lives for the people of South Korea and go against the North Korean President? But, when someone within the North Korean regime takes it upon himself to plot the launch of these missiles only one agency can take on the role to stop them. “There is nothing so glorious nor more wide-spread than the unity of mankind, that partnership and sharing of interests, that dearness of human race, which has its origin at birth….” What would happen if Americans, North Koreans, South Koreans and dissidents worked together for the good of mankind? From the author of the Watchman of Ephraim comes a novel so powerful, so frightening that if the events that unfold came to pass one country that has already been divided would suffer deadly consequences at the hand of the other.

When the President of South Korea requests a special audience with the head of the Watchman Agency a series of events will ensue taking not only its creator Cris De Niro across the globe into South Korea but two of his trusted high officials in the direct line of the North Koreans as they try and infiltrate the country, learn the location of these deadly missiles and hopefully prevent them from being launched. Learning from President Park of South Korea that General Kim relayed that a General Kang planned to launch these missiles within 30 days alerted Cris that the situation was volatile and needed his immediate attention and that of the Watchman Agency and Archangel too. Entering into the initial meeting with President Park was Colonel Cho Jung-woo of the Presidential Security Service of the Republic of Korea, Mugsy Ricci the President of the Watchman Agency and ARCHANGEL head: Scipio. Intertwined are other members of the Agency Michelle Wang and Johnny F. Each member has his/her own specialty without whom the agency would not run as smoothly or efficiently as readers get an inside account of what North Korea has planned and what would happen if China ever found out that the North Korean general was planning to unite all of Korea. But, would they endorse it? Could this really happen? When Mugsy, Cris, the Colonel and Scipio meet the room heats up but not the temperature as minds clash and egos rise when the Colonel tries to countermand the others. The objectives set that in order to complete the mission a team had to enter North Korea, make contact with the anti-Kim Jon Un cell and then make contact with General Kim. Finally, they had to locate both General Kang and or the Musudan missiles and hopefully disable them. Within Chapter 3 the author discloses how and the role the dissidents will play. Contacting Daejang Joeong is vital and if he learns that they are investigation him lives might be in danger. .

Within the Executive Conference Room-Alpha Watchman Cris De Niro meets with his staff to discuss the mission. Mugsy Ricci the President, CIO Johnny F, VP Intelligence Services Michelle Wang, VP Government Relations Karla Matthews and Mugsy’s Executive Assistant Debbie Lynch. Using the ruse that he is going to try an open a manufacturing company in South Korea, Cris hopes to gain the information needed, create a viable plan, and hopefully have everyone come back alive.

Inside the Punggye-Ri Nuclear Test Site we hear the voice of Sojan Kim Gil-su and learn the truth about what North Korea plans. Sojang Kim is thought to be the traitor that might be working both sides. But, is he? Others in power tend to question his authority as we hear the voice of Kang, learn just how vicious he is and the deceptions and lies that he has managed to create and have others believe. Every step of the way you realize that speaking freely to many of these North Korean officials could cost someone more than just their life. Listening to his feelings about their leader and stating he is nothing but a pampered spoiled brat Kang is intent on making sure that his plan is followed and the loyalties come his way.

Listen to the plan as it unfolds and learn that Mugsy and Sicipo will be the ones to infiltrate North Korea abut the problem will be how will they get in and hopefully out safely. Technology that we all wish we had access to such as the Warbird and the ability to hack into many different systems, author Gerard DeMarigny enlightens readers about the government of Korea. Mugsy, Sicpio and Cho find their way to North Korea but not everything goes as planned and with the help of a man named Father Kim and his team they manage to enter. But, Sojang Kim explains what will happen if captured. Added in we learn about a man named Song and his hopes for the future, what the missiles stand for and how he hopes to unify his country. The conversations continue and then Scipio brings to light the true meaning of what the author’s message might be as he reminds us of what Cicero said: there is nothing so glorious nor more wide-spread that the unity of mankind. If that could only happen! Continuing about different people in history that made a difference the fact that so many have been deprived art, music, culture and even food. But, who can be trusted and when things heat up which side will everyone take as Song enlists the help of his grandfather the chef to Kang to help facilitate their plan. From America, to North and South Korea to the factories, tunnels, launch sites, warehouses and train stations, boardrooms and cells this heart stopping, heart palpitating story keeps reader’s attentive and holding their breath until the very end.

Within the Headquarters of Taejang Kang Kum Sok at the nuclear center we hear Colonel Cho, Sojang Kim and Song’s grandfather as they disembark from their chartered train into a small village south of Taejang Kang’s headquarters. Tortures, shots, bullets fired, lives lost and a smart, clever and resourceful older man manages to convince those in charge that he is there to serve Kang and his minions. Guards on the alert but some not too smart as trains were relayed, conductors threatened and the Watchman team ready and able.

As the plan unfolds and the players are in place we find out more about Cho, which side he might be on, what happens when faced with the enemy and how they plan to survive. But, when the Kang is caught and they think the missiles won’t be a threat anymore what happens next will instill fear and dread in the reader as not everything seems the way it appears and the fate of so many will depend on Johnny F, Michelle the rest of the team. But, when Michelle and Cris decide to go for dinner and Johnny F has a date with laptop and accessing information, what happens to him puts the wholes mission in danger as someone blindsides the team seriously injuring Johnny F causing his future to hang in the balance. With Johnny out of commission leaving Cris and Michelle to stop the missiles what happens will surprise readers while Mugsy and Scipio face off with the patrolling guards, Kang, learns the full wrath of someone he thinks he can outfox. An ending that is explosive and a fear that is real. One loose cannon is out there and no one knows who or what this person is capable of doing. What would happen is the missiles did go off? Who is the main target? What happens when Cris realizes the truth and tries to stop the inevitable? Will Mugsy and Sicipio make it back? What about Father Kim? What happens when Michelle’s life is on the line? All of these questions will be answered and the fate of South Korea known when you read: Nothing So Glorious by Five Star author Gerard DeMarigny. Nothing So Glorious: As World Peace! Fact or Really Fiction: This novel is quite thought provoking and really makes readers think long and hard about political issues that plague every country, differences that cannot be overcome and the need to be the most powerful nation in the world.

Gerard De Marigny is a brilliant storyteller. From the very start he captivates you and doesn't let go. He writes big stories with intriguing plots and characters. This is the 5th book in his Cris De Niro series and I have loved every one. He has become one of my favorite authors. I am now on to book #6 in the series.

Why have I only just come across Gerard de Marigny! I have been reading this book on the train to work and it has made a tiring week much better. The plot is brilliant and though I am reading this book out of order (another 4 before it) I didn't get lost once and now need to catch up!

Gerard de Marigny writes big books. I am not just talking about word count but the sheer scope of the story he tells. Nothing So Glorious is the first book I have read from him and I am hoping as I go back through this series that they are all as good as this one.
