Joy is 17 when she is raped. Her diary follows her efforts over the next several years to try and come to some sort of acceptance of it - and the decisions that follow in its wake. Over the years, she struggles with shame, depression, and trying to admit that it happened to her. She becomes close to two people who are there for her, forges a new family, and moves towards resolution.
This is a fascinating book to read. The beginning started off frantically and then it came to an almost crawl halfway through but if you consider the subject matter the pacing makes perfect sense. The story is about how a girl deals with the aftermath of getting raped. The book focuses on her mental state through out the process of admitting and dealing with being raped. Joy along with her two best friends try their best to navigate through a series of serious issues and they learn a little more about themselves in the process. Would I recommend it? Yes I would.
