A guided tour and history of Tintagel Castle, set in some of England's most beautiful countryside and one of the favoured sites for Arthur's Camelot. Numerous photographs direct the visitor around the picturesque remains of the 5th- or 6th-century defended settlement and the 13th-century castle followed by discussions of the site's history and association with Arthur.
Only a quarter (10-12 pages) of this guidebook is actually used to provide a guide to the site. Which is a shame. This perhaps reflects the relatively recent start of archaelogical work at the site, compared to practically anywhere else in the UK. We're heading to Tintagel again later this year, so we'll see if a more recent 'guide'book is now available.
The Arthurian legend overview taking up the rest of the book is a fair high level intro to the stories with some historical context setting which provides decent perspective.
Excellent history of the King Arthur legend. The history of the site was also good. The tour round was OK though it didn’t work very well for people not at the site.
